Screams. Flames. Shivering alone in the bitter Alaskan night – That’s all I can remember from before.
I don’t know where I came from or who I am, and I’m fairly certain I don’t want to. I am absolutely certain about Andi Campbell, though; she’s my light at the end of the tunnel, but I can’t tell her that.
Most of True, Alaska, still shuns me because I won’t speak, but not The Campbells – and that would change if they ever found out what Andi and I did when her mother was missing last summer. Andi seems to agree, and we steer clear of each other now.
But Andi’s sister Delilah is getting married, and it’s impossible to avoid one another at Hennessy Cove, the secluded inn the bride and groom booked for their intimate ceremony. From the moment we touch down, something about the place fills me with dread. And every time I cross paths with the smiling innkeeper, I break out in a cold sweat.
Knowing Andi’s sleeping in the room next door just makes that fever worse.

Well dang it all -- I had a review drafted and then it disappeared. I do not know what happened and I'm not a happy camper. So I'm going to pout and feel sorry for myself. Anyhoo, below are just a few of the best parts for me while reading the second installment of True Alaskans.
But I did enjoy Boone and Andi's book very much. My favorite part was learning more about a little lost boy digging through a garbage bin found by a woman wanting to help. Seeing that little boy who said very few words and fell in love with a family who save him -- especially the younger sister. Learning more of Boone's history in this book and watching how Boone escapes his past with the help of so many wonderful people made this book extra special.
The only complaint I really had was that there were some editing problems that weren't found in the first book. Didn't throw me out of the story, but did gain my attention.
This one has an amazing story of a love that blossomed from childhood, a suspense-filled storyline and all around great group of entertaining characters.
If you haven’t read True North, the first read in this series, stop what you are doing, back away from the book and do that right now. Why would you do that when this reads as a standalone? Connor, Lilah, Boone, Andi, LuAnn, Marcus, Dick, Sura… Oh yeah, there are a whole host of reasons and you don’t want to miss one tension and drama-filled moment of them…
The Campbells should be filed under the word complicated in any modern dictionary. And their relationships even more so. Messy, fraught with a lot of history and pain, these characters argue like champs but love equally so. There may be anger, tears and a whole heck of a lot of sarcasm, but at the root of it is pure affection and unreserved devotion… You just have to dodge a few blows along the way.
Connor and Lilah happily found their way in a story that held equal parts mystery, intrigue, humour and (okay) booze. With them sorted away, it was time for Andi and Boone to reveal their secrets.
And, wow, were they worth the journey. Boone’s circumstances were shrouded in the unknown but that didn’t stop Andi for claiming him as her own. As fiercely protective as were, that didn’t mean their relationship was all hearts and flowers. No, there was anguish, teeth-gnashing and a whole lot of uncertainty (as well as wine).
Be prepared for a dizzying amount of delicious drama and beautiful, heart-stopping love…
Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review 2.5 stars. A stoic hero with selective mutism and a very traumatic past is an appealing feature of “Midnight Son”, by Michelle Pace (Tule Publishing), where two people who were close friends since childhood finally get their HEA. These premises were alluring to me and I liked Boone and Andi, their relationship and their friendships. There’s a sort of a paradox here because, since the story is written in first person dual POV, our hero communicates plenty about himself, his feelings for the heroine and his ghosts, nightmares and fears. This neutralizes to some extent the outsider vibes the hero might display or the strong, silent type aura. Although I was moved by Boone’s sad past, and some very poignant episodes of it, the suspense dimensions of the story didn’t really grab my interest and sometimes I got a little lost with all the characters, all the things going on, the endless conversations and details I didn’t care about and that distracted me from the romance. I found the story a bit slow and the first person dual POV dragged it even more sometimes; the overuse of adjectives in descriptions also annoyed me. I can’t say I liked the writing style and prose and I found the plot didn’t flow very well.
True Gold was such a great book. I was happy with how it ended. When I heard there was going to be a second book, I was elated but reserved at the same time. This book is a book that I didn't know I was missing in my life. I am so glad Pace decided to write it.
Boone, Boone, Boone. The quiet, elusive, mountain man. I am so happy to have his story and a happy ending all the way around for him. Love and vengeance has never been better.
Midnight Son is written in present tense with small flashbacks telling a whole different story. Past and present collide in the a very coincidental way. This book couldn't have been written in a better way. I devoured it. I didn't want it to end.
This book is full of great characters, great writing, redemption for some, healing for all. Boone and Andi aren't the only ones who get their happily ever after in this book. There is an abundance of healing and repaired relationships in this book. If you haven't read either book in this series, I highly recommend them.
When I read True Gold, the first book in the True Alaskans series, I was intrigued by Boone and his story but I had no idea the dynamics of it and the power it had to grip my mind and hold on to it. I was fully invested in this story and could not put this book down. I will try not to give you many details because seeing them unfold as you read this amazing book is part of the joy of devouring the story.
When Boone comes to the Campbell family as a child, Andi declares him “My Boone”. Here we are, years later and so many things that have passed between them, but he is still hers. Complicated doesn’t even begin to describe their relationship. Life has been difficult for both Boone and Andi, but they always had each other until the complexities of living in small town Alaska got in the way.
Circumstances bring them to a place that stirs deep memories in Boone and have him confused and seeking the truth. Of course, Andi is by his side, despite her self-imposed distancing from him. She cannot dispute the pull of Boone, to her life, to her heart.
When the situation becomes deadly and events lead to the truth, Andi and Boone let their true feelings for each be known. It is a satisfying component to this story to see their love come full circle.
Michelle Pace is a brilliant writer with exceptional talented story telling skills. Her characters are completely genuine with flaws and weaknesses as well as strengths. I became captivated by Midnight Son's story and characters and was on the edge of my seat reading it.
This book will be highly recommended by me as one of my top reads of the year. 5 Stars #2OCCMS
I don't think there's a book by Michelle Pace that I haven't enjoyed. While most have romance to them, they also have something more. With Midnight Son, we get more intrigue and thrill that was experienced with True Gold, and all the sexy and angst you want. Andi and Boone are complex characters. Having been raised together, they were always closer than just best friends. As they aged, Andi felt an inexplicable pull toward Boone and realized that her feelings were romantic. After time and time again of offering Boone more, when he always pulled away from her, she thought the feelings were one-sided. When fires start spreading across Alaska, Boone starts having bizarre dreams, maybe memories, and can't explain what's going on. Once they get to Connor and Delilah's wedding destination, more of the tumblers fall into place. But then the path to the truth is never easy, and is sometimes messier than expected. Watching Boone try to figure out what his dreams mean, and seeing Andi's undying loyalty is wonderful. I always feel that series should be read in order, but if you haven't read True Gold, you won't be completely lost (you'll just spoil bits and pieces of that story).
This book was everything I didn’t know I was missing. No lie. I love Ms. Pace’s writing but, I wasn’t super thrilled about Boone and Andi’s story. Just how I felt. That being said, it’s Michelle Pace. I was going to read it regardless. In true Pace fashion, I was immediately sucked in to these characters lives. I absolutely love the way she intertwines everyone’s lives and how she keeps you constantly guessing. There were times where the suspense got a bit much, but in all honesty, that’s what makes the resolution that much sweeter, right?
I absolutely recommend this book. Even if you don’t think you’ll love it, you will. Ms. Pace’s writing is just that good.
This book is a standalone in a series. I have not read book one, and did just fine with the dynamics. Would it have been better to read book one first, maybe, it might give you a little bit more back story by it is surrounding another couple.
Boone found himself alone and scrounging for food in True Alaska. Very little memory from his past. But when Mrs. Campbell takes him home and tries to find him some answers, he connects with her daughter Andi right away. Before he knows it he is part of the family. Sure the town doesn't know what to think of his mutism and treats him like an outcast, but never the Campbell's. As they age, his feeling for Andi become more than he is able to admit, based on their circumstances.
Andi decided from the very beginning that Boone was hers. She even begged for him to stay, when they threatened to take him somewhere else. They have shared a closeness, always being there for each other when needed. That closeness has grown to a love that she cannot share. They were raised as brother and sister after all. As much as she tries to distance herself from him there is always a constant pull.
As they find themselves spending time together to help with the wedding they are both a part of, the ability to keep some distance, becomes harder and harder. She is there for Boone trying to help him as he begins to have flashbacks of his past. With each flashback and each partial memory seems to come a hidden danger they aren't completely aware of. Boone gut is not telling him nice things about Hennessy Cove.
Will they get their chance at the love they deserve or will they be forced to accept what they have?
Ms Pace does a fabulous job at keeping you on the edge of your seat. What will happen next, will they make it out in time, will Boone's past be a good thing or a bad thing. The many twists and turns of the story will have you flipping pages and looking for answers. This was my first Michelle Pace book and I guarantee it will not be my last. I will head back to read book one and then check out her other stuff. I loved the suspense she mixed in with this slow burn romance.
*** Advanced copy provided in exchange for an honest review.***
I was not aware that this was book two of a series when I received this copy of this book. Had I been aware the start may have been easier for me to get a handle of, as I was a little bit confused with the Delilah/Lilah name changing. The start if full of people and character with a lot of information to grab onto but I am also a shift worker so it may have just been my mental frame of mind at the time. I was glad I stuck with it as the story started to grab me as did the setting, Alaska I am always a sucker for any books in this wonderland.
This brings me to the ending............... it just ended and I want so much more to happen there are still so many questions about Boone's past not answered. I may have not read book 1 but you can sure guess I will be reading a book 3 if the author writes one.
A second chance type of romance that is full of suspense and mystery that will have you with every twist and turn the author takes us on. Boone has had a troubled life one of mystery even to himself as a young boy he found a place he wanted to call home the Campbell family. But most of all he found someone to call his. They are almost like family so any feeling of romance and passion would be the wrong thing for Andi as he is already shunned and looked down by the community in which he lives.
Andi Campbell has always called Boone her's since the day he turned up but to her, this feeling was not shared until one fateful day they spend together when her mother was missing. A secret they kept from everyone in the family as they stayed away from each other as well.
They are off to Hennessy Cove for Diliah and Conners wedding but Boone is bringing a plus one along, how can Andi be around him and her for three days.
The minute Boone sees Hennessy Cove from the sky he knows something is different with him he is uncomfortable with this place. Will Boone find the answers he has always wished for but been afraid to find out?
Can Andi and Boone find a happy place together or even apart? Will there be more happening on the Island Cove than just a Wedding? Family drama at its best.
I received an ARC copy of this book to which I am giving my honest and voluntary review.
Life isn’t always what you think it is. People aren’t always who you think they are. And in an instant, your entire world can change.
Boone and Andi grew up together but they weren’t related. Boone was found living on the streets and scrounging for food in True, Alaska. He didn’t know who he was or where he came from. LuAnn, Andi’s mother, took him in and raised him as family. Even though Boone was mute, him and Andi became very close. Andi always knew what he wanted to say or do. As Boone and Andi got older, an attraction grew between them, but they were afraid to act on it as they were raised like brother and sister. As adults they still fight the attraction.
A wild fire is burning out of control and it causes Boone to have a flashback that confuses him. But there is no time to dwell on it as he is helping evacuate his friend Conner’s house before the fire takes it over.
Andi’s sister Delilah and Conner are getting married at an Inn on Hennessy Island. When the plane is about to land, Boone has another flashback and it leaves him wondering if the answers he is seeking are on the island. Will he have time to figure it all out before danger arrives and causes everything to spiral out of control? And in the heat of the moment, Andi and Boone give in to the temptation they have fought their entire lives. But will it be enough to keep them together, if they even survive the night?
This was a highly addictive book. I couldn’t wait to see how the story played out. When it was over, I craved more. This is the second book in True Alaskans series. It can be read on its own, but I would suggest reading True Gold first so you get to know the characters better. You are going to want to know Delilah and Conner’s story.
I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. I was initially hesitant to read this as I hadn’t read the first book and I was feeling a bit lost. I stopped and bought the first book, read it and then read Midnight Son.This was a wise choice. This was an amazing series. I loved all the interactions between the same core group of characters in both books. I loved reading the backstory of Andi and Boone through both of their points of view.
Book one was the story of Delilah or Lila and Connor and book two the story of Andi and Boone. Twenty five years earlier, Boone age 9, had appeared in the town of True, Alaska and Lu, Andi and Delilah’s mom took him in and made him a part of their family. No one knew where he came from or what happened to him as he was selectively mute, only talking minimally.
In the second book, Lila and Conner are preparing to get married and Andi and Boone are standing up with them. Andi found a secluded island and inn, Hennessy Cove for the wedding to take place at. The group flew in and Boone experienced some weird feelings of deja vu. He and Andi weren’t really speaking because he was trying to deny his feelings for her and she wanted more from him than he was willing to give. She had been his best friend, confidante and lifeline since he arrived in True all those years ago. So it was her he reached out to about what he began to remember. There were quite a few twists and some suspenseful moments. Andi and Boone had so much chemistry between them.
This book has so much - mystery, suspense, romance, family relationships and real drama. It is a terrific book that I highly recommend. Do read the series and in order.
Midnight Son is the second story in the True Alaskans series and brings us Boone and Andi’s story. Told in the point of view of both Boone and Andi, it is also full of flashbacks that will bring Boone’s past into his present and answer questions he cannot remember the answers to. Boone’s choice to not speak has affected how the townspeople of True, Alaska treated him in the past and even now. But not Andi, she has always been his champion, his friend and his one true love, but that’s something he cannot tell her. They have a history that is kept between them but also has distanced them as well. Now back home for Andi’s sister’s wedding, old feelings are going to come to the surface – and danger from Boone’s past will finally bring answers.
Although I prefer, whenever possible, to read a series in order if you haven’t read True Gold yet you will still enjoy and understand the events in Midnight Son. You’ll be missing a bit of background, and of course, know more about the first story’s outcome but this one could be read on its own.
I enjoyed Andi and Boone’s story. It’s full of suspense, waiting for the other shoe to fall, and two people finally letting themselves express what they feel for each other. Their story flowed smoothly, the flashbacks answered questions that I had, and one vile villain comes to light. If you like solving puzzles, a bit of tension between the main characters, and seeing love conquer the past, then you’ll want to pick up Midnight Son.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from Tule Publishing. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
I started reading MIDNIGHT SON as soon as I finished TRUE GOLD. It wasn't that the 1st book couldn't be read as a standalone. But because I just wanted more, especially when I learned it was Boone & Andi Campbell's story.
Welcome to True, Alaska. Population 1,769. Midnight Son with a Side of Smiles. This is the sign that greeted a young boy. He was lost and alone. Dirty, hungry and cold. All he remembered was his name was Boone. His luck was changed for the better, when he was searching in a dumpster for food. LuAnn Campbell found him, took one look and claimed him as her own, and took him home. The Campbell family was kind of like a mob. Once you're in, there's only one way out. Campbellism! Good! Because he never wanted to leave. This was the family that accepted him. Plus, the youngest Campbell, Andi, was quick to claim him as her very own. From that time on they had always been inseparable. They had been each others confidant. When he stayed speechless to the rest of the world, it was only her alone that he would talk to. As they grew to adulthood, they found it almost impossible to keep their sister/brother love just that. His heart was hers and always would be. Andi wanted him and didn't care what anybody else thought. Now if she could only get Boone on board. A wise woman told him, “People will always judge you no matter what you do, so may as well give yourself permission to be happy.” This is the ultimate in a slow-burn romance!
The characters are so wonderful, and appear in both books. They don't seem to be able to do anything the easy way. Fate plays an important part, so everyone should just stop fighting it, and let it play out as planned. Not just one couple get a Happy Ever After, but two!
I was hooked to the True Alaskans series after reading True Gold (Book 1), and while I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough during that story, this one didn't quite have the insane pace. Maybe it's the singular POV of Boone, I really felt like I absolutely needed Andi's POV thrown in since inner monologues tend to really give stories that extra edge at the end of the day, especially since she & Boone were so intertwined. There were twists & turns as the puzzle was being put together piece by piece, but they were as intense as I would have liked for whatever reason. I will say this, life hasn't been nice to either Andi & her "My Boone", but in the past, they had each other until they went their own ways. However, when her sister is getting married, they no longer can stay in denial of whatever they pulled back in the day. I'm excited for this series to keep going, as I have already fallen in love with the talented Michelle Pace's writing style, but for now, this is where I am, though I still needed to know how it would look all put together. However, please don't go by my issues as they're only my opinions, so hit that one click button to decide for yourselves! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Midnight Son by Michelle Pace builds on the first book in the series in that it is Andi’s sister, Delilah’s wedding for the setting. The past haunts Boone, only is it true or just nightmares? It is also Andi’s story whose love and loyalty to Boone are evident from beginning to end. It is that unyielding faith that made this a compelling read. While this is the second in a series with True Gold being the first, it stands well on its own for those who have not read the first book. The Alaskan setting is wonderfully depicted with the beautiful ruggedness of the land but also that small town people there are more alike than different from mainland small town people where I live. Expect drama, angst and mystery galore but also romance, friendship and family. All in all, I enjoyed this story more than the first. An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Midnight Son is a standalone, you don't HAVE to read True Gold before reading this one, but I highly recommend that you do.
Boone cannot remember his horrific past, but that doesn't mean he's not affected by it. Andi has some nightmarish memories she's dealing with as well. Together they've always found peace and safety, but that all changed one night, and this is their story. It's gritty and raw, and as is usual for Michelle Pace, it takes you on a twisted ride that will sometimes leave you gasping for air. Michelle Pace is an author who never disappoints, and Midnight Son is no exception.
Instantly hooked on Boone’s story I could not put it down. We know the Boone from True Gold, quiet and rarely verbal, but a good guy and friend. There’s a huge part of his life he doesn’t remember or understand. This is how he finds out the answers, but they weren’t easy to get. It’s a suspenseful adventure in the midst of Lie and Connor’s wedding. The tale is woven beautifully with some memories and moments triggered by different things. Boone is the guy who intimidates men but women swoon at his quiet strong persona. I was thrilled to get an early copy from the author, my review was provided voluntarily and unbiased.
This is my first book by this author but I will definitely be buying the first book in this series "True Gold" as I want more
Boone was raised as Andi's brother her mother took him in when he was found alone and hungry in the streets of True Alaska He was deeply traumatised and has never spoken a word but the bond between him and Andi meant that she always knew what he was "Saying" Now as they are growing older the attraction between them is growing but will they act on it. As events unfold around them Boone starts to have flash backs will he remember his past is there danger in it and will he and Andi finally admit the love they have for one another
I was lucky enough to read a beta copy of Midnight Son. This is Boone's story, this is Andi's story, this is Boone and Andi's story with a sprinkle of Conner and Lie. Fire, screams, memories, is it all real or just a really bad dream? You have to add Midnight Son to your TBR list to find the answers. In the meantime if you haven't read the first book in the series True Gold go right now and get it read it!
I absolutely loved True Gold and couldn't wait for Boone's story in Midnight Son. Michelle Pace did not disappoint!! While you know Boone is a man of few words he has one hell of a story to tell. Andi and Boone are the perfect couple. I loved Andi's sassy mouth and Boone's alpha tendencies. This book is so much more than a romance novel. You will definitely enjoy this thrilling ride of twist and turns!!
Although this book is the second in a series, it could easily be read without having first read True Gold. Conner and Delilah are planning their wedding, but this book is actually the story of Boone and Andi. Boone starts having dreams about his past which is largely unknown. But when he arrives at the wedding venue the truth starts to unravel. The author does a great job of pulling the reader into the saga. A great book and read.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series. Andi & Boone don’t have quite the same draw as Connor & Delilah did for me, but I still very much enjoyed their story. I love the setting of Alaska & the way the books bring that to you. I look forward to future installments of the characters of True, Alaska.
A past brought to life with the upcoming nuptials of his best friend/brother, Boone finally finds out where he came from. Book 2 in the True Alaskan series has everything you need for a great Netflix series.
I voluntarily read a advanced reader's copy of this book for a honest opinion.
Midnight Son by Michelle Pack. Book 2 in the True Alaskans series. Part mystery with a little bit of possible romance. This book took me awhile to get into but once I do it was a good story.
