Once again, I couldn't put it down. The mystery, the suspense, the comedy and the romance, all kept me wanting more. Camilla Chafer is my favorite author. The Deadlines series is great.
Shayne Winters, the lead character, is smart, funny and sexy. She follows leads even when everyone else thinks they are dead ends.

Dead Ringer lands with an intensity that will keep the reader up all night if that is what it takes to solve the disappearance of a surprising number of young models and actresses. When Shayne overhears a comment about a missing actress, it drives her on two fronts. One, of course, is to make her way back to the front page, but even more important to her is the fact that no one even seems to realize that these women have disappeared. The only thing they have in common is their appearance, an appearance that is frighteningly similar to one of Shayne’s best friends.
After having helped capture two murders and snagging the headlining by-line, Shayne is more discontent than ever at the let down in her new job. The LA Chronical isn’t a big name but it is a name in a big city newspaper and a stepping stone to something great, or it should have been until the investigative reporter she was supposed to replace returned just as she arrived to step into his shoes. Now she is frustratingly overwhelmed with obituaries and entertainment fluff. And the woman who had the job, and the guy, before her has walked back into the news room like she owns the place, and him. Shayne and Ben have reached a good point in their new relationship but Shayne isn’t sure it is strong enough to handle the return of Ms. Thing or the fact that he seems to have highjacked her big story. She couldn’t take it if he takes over her investigation of the missing women.
Fans of Camilla Chafer will not be surprised with the number of twists and turns we encounter through the story, but they still won’t be prepared for the surprises she has in store.

Fun, female-sleuth read!

This series is a spin-off off Chafer’s Lexi Graves series. The sharp and fun reporter, Shayne Winter, is an entertaining, light-hearted mystery that includes strong female supporting characters, as well as an interesting hot guys or two! The writing is good, the plot is well thought out, and the characters are likeable. I do often figure out The Who-dun-it, but it doesn’t detract from it being an enjoyable read. I recommend!

Loving the continuation to Shayne’s story! Settling into life in LA after gaining a group of friends and getting back to a normal routine, she’s looking for her next big story but finding it hard to in the big city. She realizes that things in LA are way different than her hometown in Montgomery, where she was a big fish in a small pond. While at lunch, she overhears a group of girls talking about their missing friends, and it piques her interest. As Shayne dives into investigating what happened to the girls, she stumbles upon more girls that have gone missing as well, and some of which that have turned up dead. With the help of her new friends, she continues to dig into what happened to the girls and finally realizes that they all look similar to her new best friend. Putting the pieces together, she finds that things aren’t what they seem and ends up discovering the killer who was right under her nose! Honestly, I can’t get enough of Camilla Chafer and her storylines. They always provide a level of twists and turns within the mystery itself that keep you guessing the entirety of the book. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

A great read.  I love the mystery, the characters, and the humor along the way. Another book that kept me guessing and interested. I didnt want to put it down which I didn't and I sure wasn't ready for the journey to end.  Shayne starts out disappointed in how her career is going, add in life drama with boyfriend, ex-girl friends and friends, a mystery of disappearing actresses, and hope for the future and you have a lovely cozy mystery to keep you entertained. Camilla Chafer is a great author I have recommended before and will again.

Some going missing in LA?

Shayne Winter sinks her journalist's teeth into overbearing this and begins investigating...she finds an interesting yet troubling common denominator - they are all dead ringers for her friend Daisy. Very good read.

I absolutely loved this book! I loved the fast pace of the book and the story line and being able to put the clues together just ahead of when Shayne did. I just wanted to climb in the book and grab at her and say open up your eyes the killer is right in front of you! Another great read from the author !
