We were each other’s retreat until it all fell apart . . .
Ty
Why didn’t I just stick to the plan? This is a question that haunts me every day. I had a great job and a solid circle of friends. Then, everything fell apart . . . because I didn’t stick to the plan—never get involved, just enjoy life. I was an idiot, but never again. From now on, I stay far away from relationships and feelings. That’s not who I am. It’s time to get back to the real me.
Morgan He doesn’t see me. I was pathetic, a ridiculous girl following her older brother’s best friend around like a lost puppy. Watching him with every other woman on the planet. Fantasizing about what it would be like to be them. I was a fool to believe if I just put myself out there and told him I loved him maybe, just maybe, he would truly notice me. Never again. I’m moving on. I’m not the pitiful girl I once was. I’m stronger and wiser, ready to take on the world. And nothing, especially my stupid heart, will stop me.
Now there’s nothing left to do except withdraw from each other.

His story really gutted me in Misassumption. I loved that it really set the tone and gave you details that way when I started this book I knew it all. I love the Nicole always has her books interacting with each other. I love seeing everyone over and over again.
Ty messed up and he messed up big time, he just didn’t realize it at the time. He was heartbroken and kissed his best friend Morgan, that was just the beginning of his heartbreak. By kissing her and then saying it was a mistake did nothing except ruin many relationships, including their friendship. Now he has a strained relationship with Jay, his bestie who so happens to be Morgan’s big brother also. He doesn’t talk to Morgan anymore. It’s all just a mess. When he gets an offer to move to Texas for a big tattoo shop, he has to decide what to do.
Morgan is a shy, heartbroken woman who just wants everyone to stop treating her like a little girl. Her overprotective big brother will never see her as anything else. Her best friend who she’s in love with thinks their one kiss was a mistake. She’s determined to show everyone who she really is and how much of a woman she actually is. It never is as easy as you want it to be though, she misses her brother and her best friend. When Frankie goes and tells her about Ty and his job offer she knows she has no other choice except to burn bridges and make everything go back the way it was. She does what she needs to do to get everyone speaking and becoming their family again.
Everything is going great and starting to get back to normal with everyone except for the fact that now that Ty and Morgan had their one kiss, they can’t think of anything else. Morgan comes up with a plan that can help them both but she knows there’s a possibility of more heart break. She’s determined to be the badass woman she knows she can be and show everyone just that. What could possibly go wrong with two best friends wanting more ??
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. With that being said I have nothing negative to say except I wish it was a little longer. Nicole has a such a great way of writing, I love it so much. There really isn’t a book that she writes that I don’t enjoy. She makes the characters actually relatable. I hate ready books and being like yeah this never happens .. that’s never the case with Nicole. You can actually relate to her characters in one way or another. If you’ve never read any of her books you should.
After Evie’s story Ty so deserved a HEA and he got it. I just didn’t get the feels in this one and it pains me to say it. I love this author’s books but this one didn’t hit the highs of the others for me (probably a case of it’s not the book but me!)I am looking forward to Jay’s book and I hope Frankie really puts him through the mill as in this book he was very unreasonable a lot of the time!
Finally we get Ty and Morgan’s story. What a story it is. It moves at a fast paced speed and keeps us riveted to the pages to find out what is going to happen next. We find Ty weighing his options as to what his life holds for him in the future and if there is any real solutions to his heartache and the heartache he’s caused within his tattoo family. Morgan is trying to piece back together her life and move on but can she really? Meanwhile new players are entering into her life to divert her attention from what she thought was her one true love. Is this enough to distract her and keep her occupied from her obsession? Do we really ever get over our unrequited first loves that never came to fruition? Or are they really just mythical dreams we put on pedestals that should’ve never been? Can you really stand outside yourself and have a different relationship with the one who got away and still guard your heart? Or are you doomed to repeat the sins of the past? Well read this book and find out. I enjoyed this book so much. I have to say I wish there was a little more because it moved quick. I read this in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. We got to meet up with characters from previous books and got into a little depth with new characters who I hope will get their own story. There’s a lot of tension, as well as good heat and slap in your face truth. Frankie is becoming one of my favorite characters. I really enjoyed this book. I raced through it as though I was on the track! 4.5 stars
"You’re everything, and I’ll die knowing that I had real love no matter what happens down the line.” So let me start by saying I'm not one to highlight books as I read them, but there's a first time for everything. This has to be one of my favorite heart shattering quotes from any book I've read. Something in the words just perfectly explains what real love feels like good or bad. Warning....this book will completely frustrate you. It will have you yelling at the pages, willing the characters to get theirselves together. But it's impossible not to absolutely adore Ty and Morgan. Just when I started to get angry at Ty he would win me back over. The feelings are so real, and the friends to lovers fears and familiarity are very relatable. I also loved the friendship between Ty and Jay and their loyalty to one another. Although I havent had the chance to read the other books in the Adamson/Monroe series I was able to fall in love so quickly with this world and these people and the book truly can be read as a standalone. I cannot wait to read more and hopefully meet more of these hot men in the racing world! I was about to be midnight messaging the author begging for Frankie's story when I read in the after notes that she is getting one! Ahhhh!!! Nicole has done it again! Just one-click already!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A 4* because the story is good and well written and its good to see a Ty moving on after Evie demolished his heart but i really didnt like Morgan. She didn't redeem herself or make me warm to her in any way. She came across as a very selfish and manipulative person who wanted what she wanted and damn the consequences.
The book refered a lot (and i mean a lot, like nearly every chapter) to Morgan being a strong woman but i didnt feel her actions always reflected a strong character. The past she has overcome helps make her strong but her behaviour at times was a girl without much respect for herself who was willing to take what crumbs she could get in the hoped of changing Tys mind and getting what she really wants and this was after she spent time distancing herself from not only her friends but her family rather than accepting she cant get what/who she wants.
I am still a lover of Nicoles work as part of the beauty of her writing is that not everyone will love every one. There is always something to enjoy about her books even if you maybe dont like the plot or a specific character. I can not wait for Jay and Frankie to get their story as i see more fireworks than 4th of July between them.
For months now since nicole left my heart scattered in pieces i have been craving Ty's story!Wanting to see him happy after Evie crushed him in her tiny heartless fist(okay so yes i still harbor some ill feelings towards evie lol)I was so not disappointed!
Morgan is so bad@$$!!I instantly fell head over heels for Ty all over again and all of the side characters but morgan.....she is an absolute sassy beast!I wanna be her when I grow up lol.
Yet again I have been sucked into this family with all of the incredible side characters who's stories I now crave too!I can't even explain how much I loved this!I hope to see Ty and Morgan again!!
Ty... DANG! This man is Fine with a capital F! If you've a fan of Dykes work then you already know what I'm talking about.
Morgan is sexy and knows exactly what she wants, the problem is just getting him to cooperate and open his eyes!
This is a fast and seriously hot read that keeps the reader invested in the characters.
You get snippets of past characters which is always a bonus. I've got nothing but good things to say about this book and the series it's spun from. Make sure you grab it up!
Well since this is my 3rd book by Nicole. I’m fairly new to her books. I loved Morgan and Ty in this book. Morgan and Ty have always had that connection and did kinda try once but it was a mistake but really it just brought them back together because when you both in love with each you will always make your back to each other. Morgan and Ty had there up and downs but I the end they made it back to each other and we love each other til the end. This was amazing book and I read it straight through and didn’t stop til the end.
Between Morgan and Dani, I'm not sure who I like the most because they both own up to their shit. It might be a complete mistake but they both just shrug and do it anyway, no F's given.
Ty took me a min. because even though I respect his loyalty and his friendship to everyone, he let me down on several occasions when he should have manned up. I understand the problem but he could have done better. I just freaking love Nicole Dykes because she's one of the hand full of authors that has always put out a fantastic story every time. All I gotta say is keep it coming!!
Love this couple! I didn’t really see how Nicole would get these two to have a HEA, but it all worked out in the end. You can read this one on its own, but if you do, you will miss seeing the relationship of Ty and Evie and the relationship of Morgan and Tate. (Spoiler - not really - Evie and Tate are now a couple and have there own book before this one.) Retreat picks up where the last book ended. Morgan hasn’t been home in months and Ty is thinking about taking a new job out of state. GASP!!!
I recommend you give this one a chance. You’ll love it!
I was so eager for this book and Nicole did not disappoint!! I have had a soft spot for Morgan for awhile now and was 100% rooting for her to get her happy ending. So when that was snatched away because Ty was so mixed up and confused my heart broke for her. Can these two figure things out and find their way back to each other? Or are they truly not meant to be?
If you are looking for an author that knows how to hit you in the feels every time, then look no further... NICOLE DYKES is a master at this and every book gets better and better!!
Loved it! It took me a few pages to get back into the characters. Their past wasn't quite so in-depth or dark as it sometimes is for the characters Nicole writes but that didn't detract from the enjoyment of this hot read. If you love romance with a bit of sizzle this is for you!
Have you all recovered from reading Misassumption love triangle-square-circle?
Because, now we’ve got to untangle (or rather tie) Ty & Morgan together!
However, this won’t be an easy task, with Jay making his overbearing brotherly feelings very clear on the matter, Ty at one with his emotions and wanting to do the right thing. Then there’s Morgan just wanting everyone to see her for the strong woman that she has become and not the same little innocent girl.
How do you go back to normal after all that’s happened? I have no clue.
Morgan O’Neal...dam after what happened it’s no wonder Morgan wanted to escape and help heal her damaged heart.
But Morgan just can’t shake her feelings for Ty and seeing him again only makes her ache for him all over again. Surely there’s a way to convince Ty that she can have a no-strings relationship with him and not get hurt in the process...it can’t be that hard to hide away your true feelings for a guy you’ve had a crush on for years, right?
Hell yes!
And when everyone around you can see that you are totally failing, what do you do? Morgan must stay strong, but how long does she wait for Ty to accept his feelings towards her and finally claim her?
But there’s no excuse for it. I hurt her, the one person he would walk through fire for. Hurt Morgan, you hurt Jay, and he will fucking kill you. I’m lucky I’m still breathing.
It seems that the one night stand, pretty boy Ty king, may actually be losing his touch with the ladies! Dealing with his lasting emotions with Evie Adamson, Ty is trying to move on...but the thought of kissing Morgan keeps flashing in his mind.
Jay is still breathing down his neck and watching his every move...and yet Ty can’t avert his eyes from Morgan. An offer is put on the table from Morgan and Ty just wants to do the right thing, take the moral road and keep Morgan at a tempting sweet distance.
But, Morgan’s a force to be reckoned with and Ty can’t stop his growing attraction anymore…
“Why the hell are you trying to tempt me?”
“Why the hell are you denying me?”
“You know why.”
Ty & Morgan…<3 The couple that needed some cheering from the sidelines and big words of encouragement. Morgan knows her own mind and to hell with what people may think of her and you’ve gotta love that about her. Ty may be warring with himself with his feelings for Morgan but even he can’t deny how right everything feels when he has Morgan in his arms-or beneath him!
The kiss is sex, release, and pleasure, all wrapped up in a fucking kiss.
It was no surprise that Ty & Morgan finally had their story, they needed their ending all and I loved reading every page of it! Some hidden gems throughout, characters that we fell in love with make a reappearance-yes they are still arseholes and a newbie! Oh my god! I just can not wait for his book!!
Communicate, Communicate, Communicate! This book was full of angst between favorite characters Ty and Morgan. Ty and Morgan have been best friends for along time. Ty, who typically is a "lets just enjoy tonight" kind of guy fell in love with Evie. Evie was torn between two men and finally chose Tate breaking Ty's heart. Ty feels he has tried the relationship thing and he couldn't make it work so he is done. Ty is angry, confused, hurt and his best friend Morgan is there and he kisses her. Ty knows it was a mistake and continues tell Morgan he is sorry. What he doesn't know is that Morgan has been in love with him for years and is broken when she has waited for Ty to kiss her but he says it was a mistake. Ty loses his best friends Morgan and Jay (Morgans brother and coworker). Ty is just going through the motions hurting all he has lost. Morgan then comes back and might be ready to continue her friendship with Ty. This is where all the fun begins. When these two continue to have heated sexual chemistry but cannot communicate to one another. I read this in one setting because I had to know if these two could get through all the mistakes they make and how many people will be hurt and angry by their actions. This is a light book to read and as always Nicole Dykes adds humor, steamy sex scenes, and well thought out characters. I always enjoy reading her books because she always surprises us with updates from other characters from her series I have fell in love with. READ this book.Nicole Dykes
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
So, before I dive in, let me just put this out into the universe. I have been Team Ty since Misassumption, so when it was his turn in Nicole's world, I knew I had to be there for it. And I loved it so very much. That being said, I am not a fan of who he ended up with. But that's just me, because I haven't been a fan of hers since Misassumption. In my head, Ty is with me. And that works for me, even if it means I am somewhat delusional, I have no issues with being seen as delusional.
Retreat is just another one of Nicole's angsty love stories that will literally have you on your knees begging. It is emotional, raw and intense... everything that Nicole is known for delivering. This friends to lover’s romance will pull on your heartstrings, have you wishing for everything to work out and truly mess with your head wishing you could smack some people at times.
If you haven't read Nicole yet, I highly suggest diving into her world! These books will literally drop you to your knees. They will twist your heart into knots, tear you apart piece by piece and just when you can't take anymore, she will stitch you back together in a beautifully written way that will have you crying happy tears.
Five stars for this beautifully written friends-to-lovers that will definitely have you begging for more when it is all said and done.
Nicole Dykes does it again. She creates books that are easy to read and enjoyable, from the first page to the last. This is Ty and Morgan's story. Ty has been hurt. One time in his life he decides to give his heart away and it was crushed. He lost everything with one simple mistake. Kissing Morgan out of anger, jealousy, and sadness was a huge mistake because of that I lost everything, not only did I lose my only love to another man, but my two best friends Morgan and Jay too. Can this mistake ever be fixed? Will Ty ever be in a place where he is happy again, or is it time to move on? Morgan has loved Ty for as long as she can remember. The kiss for her was no "mistake." She can't be around him anymore, she can't go back to being "just friend" when she wants so much more. Thank goodness for her job working with Tate. She can lose herself in work and not have to think about Ty. What will happen though if it all goes away? Will she remain silent or fight for what she really wants? Nicole has done an amazing job of remanding true to the characters come to love so very much. If you have read her books or not, you will still be able to understand what is happening in this book. It can be read as a standalone, but you will understand the characters more if you have read her previous books. My recommendations is to read this book!!!
I absolutely loved this story!!! It was a fantastic read. It pulled me in from beginning to end with these characters! This book can be read as a standalone but it is connected to the Monroe's and Adamson's series. If you have read some of those books, especially the Adamson's than you will recognize some of the characters and you will have been waiting to get their stories on. Ty and Morgan have known each other for many years. Morgan has had a crush on Ty for a long time but he has never seen her as a grown woman. He is a few years older than her and is her brother's best friend. Her brother if very protective and has warned off every man. Ty kissed Morgan in the book Misassumption and things went all bad. Ty is finally trying to get his life back together but he has lost his group of friends until Morgan and Frankie step in and help them try and get back to normal. I love how Morgan stands her ground on getting her brother to see her as an adult. Ty and Morgan have to figure out how to deal with the dynamics because Ty does see her as a woman but he doesn't want to hurt her, ever, and he doesn't know how to do a relationship and doesn't want to do less. This was a very easy book to read. I truly enjoyed getting to see these characters figure things out and I can't wait for more! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I love all things written by Nicole Dykes and Retreat was a great book but I couldn't connect with Morgan and Ty. Morgan is a successful and strong adult and yet her brother continuously talks to her and treats her like she is a young child. When she tries to assert herself and explain to him how he feels he doesn't really hear her. She wants so badly for Ty to love her and have feelings for her she doesn't fully explore other possibilities. Ty feels guilty about kissing Morgan and doesn't want to open his eyes and see the person right in front of him. He goes back and forth between leading her on and rejecting her because he is so worried about what her brother feels. He puts Jay’s feelings ahead of what he and Morgan feel. They both need to grow a backbone and tell Jay to piss off if they want to be together. I personally like Morgan with someone else. We all have those characters we don’t connect with or that frustrates us, that didn’t change my enjoyment of the book. Retreat is a great book, well written and worth reading.
I couldn't wait for Nicole to write Ty and Morgans story, I have been routing for Ty ever since i read about him Misasumption.
Morgan is a very strong female who takes some time out and lick her wounds from Ty after his it was a Mistake!!! it should never of happened, whole effects of that first kiss.
At the start of the story i'm like come on Ty get yourself together we all know its gonna work between you and Morgan, get you head out of your A$$. But he is all about his brother's at the tattoo studio and how he has let Jay down.
Ty know's that Morgan is off limits, But when she comes back into his life he can't stop his growing feelings for Morgan.
Will Try and Morgan get their happily ever after, will anything come between then, Will Jay stop treating Morgan like a child. You need to read the book to find the answers to these questions.
What can I say . . . I have been waiting to find out what happens to Ty ever since Eve and her book Misassumption. But even if you havent read Misassumption you can still get what's going on. And boy did this book keep me engaged! Note to self . . . Do not start this book at night when you have to work the next day.
So what happens when you have been broken hearted? Can you mend and move on? Do you ever find your very own love? And what if your crush is the only one for you? And they dont have any feelings for you? Or a bro code interferes? Omg, too many questions with so much drama, but that is what makes this book so good. These are relatable situations! These are relatable characters! And you wont be able to put it down until its finished!
I loved Ty from first time I met him and who couldn't adore the kid sister Morgan, who is trying to grow up and become a strong woman. Dont retreat from this type of trope . . . Try it and you might like it way more than you thought!
I have been waiting for Ty's and Morgan's story. My heart broke for Ty in Misassumption when he finally wanted to try a relationship with Evie. When That all broke down Ty became a shallow of a man. He had kissed Morgan and then said it was a mistake which breaks her heart and causes Morgan to leave for a while. In this book Ty is trying to figure out what he wants in his life. He can feel his attraction to Morgan but she is also his best friends sister who he said he would never touch. Morgan is a very strong woman and goes after what she wants. She has loved Ty for years and she makes him an offer you'd think any man would take. You have to read their story and find out how things go. I'm still not a huge Morgan fan but I am soooo a Ty fan. Love him. I enjoyed watching their story unfold. Once I was able to finally pick up the book and read I couldn't put it down. Nicole Dykes has done it again. Another phenomenal book.
Let me start by saying that if you have not read any of Nicole's books yet then what are you waiting for???? Nicole is my top favorite author. No matter how many books she has in a series, whether it's 2 or 12 every one just gets better and better. I could not wait to get Ty and Morgan's story. I felt so bad for him when things didn't work out for him and Evie but I'm kind of glad that they didn't. But because of the way things happened with them Ty made what he said was a big mistake and kissed Morgan. His best friend's little sister, who by the way is in love with him. I don't want to spoil it for those who have not read it yet SO the only thing that I will say is you need to get your butt in gear and get to reading this story. You definitely won't be disappointed. If I could give this or any of Nicole's books 50 stars I most certainly would. Thank you for another great story Nicole. Can't wait to see where you take us next.
Oh nicole, you outdid yourself with this one. I loved ty and morgan. I am so happy I finally got to read their book. I'm eagerly awaiting Frankie and Jay, I have a feeling they will be my favourite couple. This book will make you scream, at Ty, and at Morgan. You will feel like you are right there, witnessing their rollercoaster as they figure things out. Ps Nicole- I always love when you throw Michael and Dani into your books, me loves them ;)
So much drama. Ty had found a great situation working at the tattoo shop and had built a unique family but then he kissed Morgan and cracked the whole dynamic. Now, Jay won’t talk to him since Morgan is his little sister and Morgan has disappeared. Morgan is working hard to establish her career and independence. She is tired of Jay only seeing her as a kid and not the grown woman that she is. She is frustrated with Ty, a guy she has loved for years but he doesn’t feel the same way. When Frankie finds out that Ty might take a job in Texas, well, this is the push everyone needs to face their feelings and fears. Can this group of friends rebuild the lost trust? Will Ty and Morgan find love or friendship? I was pulled in from the start and really wasn’t sure where this journey was going to take me. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
One kiss is all it took! The friendship between Ty and Morgan is damaged. It’s something that should never have happened according to Ty. Now they both don’t really speak to each other. But one is as stubborn as the other. To make matters even worse Morgan’s brother Jay warned Ty that his sister was “off limits”. Now Jay isn’t speaking to Ty either. When Morgan finds out that Ty is thinking of taking a new job in Texas she decides it’s time to talk to him. They both finally agree to try to have things go back to the way they were of being friends. They want to go back to Sunday get togethers with the rest of their “circle of friends”. But can they still remain as just “friends”? Even though this book is so good it still had me frustrated at times.
I love Nicole just a little more with each book she writes, and Retreat is an amazing addition to Nicole's library. This is Ty and Morgan's story...and what a story it is!! Nicole writes wonderful alpha assholes, and makes them lovable. Ty and Morgan have been friends for a long time and the chemistry between them is off the charts!! Morgan has a very protective older brother in Jay and that is just one obstacle that they have to get over...will they be able to overcome their personal demons and be together? You'll just have to read this book and find out!! You will be totally hooked with the voodoo that she do...I know I am, and already anticipating what is coming next, and this book ain't even released yet Lol Love you Nicole!!
I have been anxiously awaiting Ty and Morgan’s story, and it totally was worth the wait! Sweet Lord, the chemistry between these two is panty melting!
Ty and Morgan have been friends for years. She is the best friends baby sister, never really noticed by Ty. Until the one kiss that made Ty realize what a strong beautiful woman, Morgan really is.
Being off limits because of her brother Ty tries to resist the connection that they have, but life has other plans.
Can Morgan and Ty have a relationship when Ty has sworn off commitment? Will Morgan have to choose between the man she loves, or her brother?
Thank you for this deliciously addictive 5 star read!
Excellent. Loved it. Morgan and Ty sure have a complicated relationship. A friendship that gets turned to ash over a single Kiss, only for that kiss to also ignite feelings of wanting more than friendship, and seeing one another in a whole new light. But as with all things nothing is simple ,there is so much back and forth between these two they made my head spin. They have so much chemistry it burned the pages, but Ty is Morgan's brother's best friend so like I said its not simple. Nicole's writing is a perfect blend of emotion and angst, she always has me gripped and wanting more. I adored this book..Another big hit , another fantastic Romance that I highly recommend.
