Dr. Bernie Siegel--revered thought-leader, retired surgeon, and prolific author--offers meaningful life-lessons inspired by the significant quotes pulled from his notebooks."Make your own Bible. Select and collect all the words and sentences that in all your readings have been to you like the blast of a trumpet." - Ralph Waldo EmersonWe have all come across a sentence in a book or a line of poetry that seems to jump off the page as if it has been patiently waiting for you to discover it in this precise instant. At times, the lyrics of a song or words spoken in a play can feel as if God is speaking directly to you, guiding you on your quest for truth and authenticity in this weird and wonderful life. From the words of great thinkers and quiet moments with God, to snippets of conversation with patients, and moments shared with his late-wife, Bobbie, Dr. Bernie Siegel has curated his most meaningful stories, lessons, and quotes from a lifetime of journals in No Endings, Only Beginnings. With this book, he encourages you not just to learn from his advice and experience, but to create your own book of collected wisdom-your life manual for growing, loving, and healing-as you continue to shape your personal understanding of the answers to life's big questions.
This book had a huge impact on how I live my life everyday. Through this book I was able to find my final purpose/mission here on earth. I am now loving, living and learning myself more and now more able to share more love and care with others. Thank you, Dr. Bernie Siegel. 🙏
As a fellow MD, I was very impressed with Dr. Siegel book. He has truly lost his “life” on the activities he now engages in . Like him, l married in med school and have just celebrated our 54 th anniversary. My wife was diagnosed with plasma cell leukemia and had a stem cell transplant. We are both trying to live in the now, enjoying every day to the fullest.
I liked many things about this book and found it inspiring for the most part. It was clearly and directly written. The stories about patients were enlightening. The information relating genetics, family history in the genes and cells along with childhood trauma made me feel sad and discouraged because of my childhood trauma, chronic health conditions, lack of support and stressors in my life now without love.
A bit too New Age in its approach to spirituality for me, but I enjoyed the personal details of the author's relationship with his deceased wife Bobbie, and the idea to create a notebook of personally resonant quotes is one I'd like to start.
I imagine he is an eccentric surgeon that talks about love all the time. I mean he proudly told the story of how he is giving a psychosomatic patient a few psychotherapy sessions. He should have referred the patient to a psychotherapist and do his job as a surgeon.
Here some other part that make me go ugh: When a psychotic man began screaming at me in the emergency room, I said to him, “I love you.” He stopped screaming and quietly returned to his cubicle. --wtf
One time, Bobbie and I were having difficulty getting our carry-on luggage accepted on a plane. The attendant said it wouldn’t fit, but the size was only bordering on too large. I sought the goodness in her and said, “I need your love.” Immediately the attendant changed from her mind to her heart and let me carry the luggage on. --That's because she doesn’t want to deal with a freak arse dude, not because you called the goodness in her heart man. wtf seriously why am I keep reading this book
To be honest though, he got some good quotes in this book. As he said in the introduction, this is his “BIBLE II”, practically a book of his favourite quotes and his interpretations of them. Don’t wanna be mean but there are a lot of cringeworthy notes rite here. (He talks a lot about his goodness—a little... too much). Overall I have a mixed thought and feeling about this book.
Live your life with purple knowing that a supreme being is there and always has your back
I recommend this book to people everywhere who are into journaling, self discovery, and exploring the unknown spirituality and universal forces that connect us all. The wisdom , positivity, and life experiences Dr. Siegel shares are amazing. So well written and uplifting that I can't say enough good about the impact this book has had on my life.
I liked everything in this book, I liked all the quotes, the Dr. Bernie explains and what he discovered on his own. I plan on working with drawings to heal.
There are so many thoughts in my head that I’m having problems putting them in order, I can only say that this book is worth the read. 😁
Full of life and the encouraging words to live it. Easy to read one chapter or segment at a time which is what I did to digest and nourish myself with Mr. Siegal’s wisdom. It is also a very spiritual book and pushed the typical boundaries for me to think about and explore the mysteries of life.
I am a volunteer for our local non profit Hospice. I make bereavement calls to the families about 6 weeks after their loved ones passing. This book has helped me with my talks with them. And has given me more incite in this time they are going through. I loved this book!!!!
Again in a metamorphosis... I love as intuition send me to certain books. Sometimes my logical mind battle while reading miracles from people but other times my heart take the wheel and makes a big amount of space in believing and bringing love to me. In much need of spiritual books this weekend. 💜
I love Bernie Siegel's writings over the years and found this an inviting read. Contrary to my normal reading quickly through the chapters, instead I chose to enjoy/digest his very thoughtful life lessons/sharings one a day. Each short chapter (3 to 5 pages) used some personal experience that led to a thoughtful reflection and suggested action for the reader. A very enjoyable and interesting slow reflective read. I strongly recommend his book and hope that you too will come away changed from the reflective daily moments of this beautiful personal sharing.
