This is the first in a new series and my first by this author and I really enjoyed this charming second chance romance! 3.5 Stars
Chasing After Love is the first in the Carnivale Chronicles which is a series of books that all take place at a Chicago Carnivale festival. Each book is written by a different author which makes it a good opportunity to sample the writing styles of a variety of authors. I've never read anything by Riddick before so it was nice diving into this story and getting accustomed to her writing style, plot development and character development skills. The story focuses on characters Gabe and Nancy who both have had unfortunate circumstances when it comes to their love life. As the attempt to move forward, they find themselves with the opportunity to rekindle a romance that they had years prior. Of course, as with any romance there are a few characters who stand in the way of their reunion. Honestly, I thought that Nancy took one situation a little too hard. It was clear that it was a misunderstanding, but for some reason she struggled with seeing that way. I thought that the development of the side characters was done well especially with the parents. They were absolutely amazing and really tied the love story together. I really wish that the Carnivale element of the story was tied together better. It didn't really play that big of a role and I wanted more of it. Overall, this was a great start the series and I can't wait to dive into the next book.
Loved this novella. A lot was covered and it all flowed so well. Gabe and Nancy’s story was very touching. Love lost and found ten years later. Great job Suzette.
Second chance love is an all time favorite of mine. Both Nancy and Gabe were recovering from failed relationships when an unexpected encounter during a visit to Chicago brings them back in each other's lives. Nancy"a break up from Gabe at 19 hurt and scared her and afterwards she mistreated guys in her future relationships. Gabe later regretted the hurtful words and anger he displayed towards Nancy 10 years earlier when he found out she lied about her age. After seeing her again he realized that he missed her and wanted another chance. The deception of her last boyfriend has Nancy afraid of being hurt and very reluctant to try again with Gabe. Just as she was starting to trust Gabe's ex shows up and sends Nancy running away in fear, causing Gabe to chase after her. This story though a short read was very well written. I would recommend this story and plan to look up other stories in this authors catalog.
I really felt so bad for Nancy and Gabe. They both seemed unlucky in love, that love alluded them because they were always meant to be. Misunderstandings and immaturity drove them apart. But as always timing is our friend. They reunited just when and how they were supposed to. That reunion burned up the pages. Gabe’s mother totally captured my heart, she was a true ride or die for both of them. It’s nothing like a great mother in law and a little surprise to make the perfect story.
Great book and a must read. This book was a page turner and I couldn't stop until I finished. The first love was the true love and I love how you captured that.
Ten years is a long time, so how do you react when the pass strolls back into your life? Nancy remains the constant professional, while Gabriel "AKA Gabe" is running around in circles. I enjoyed this story.
Excellent read, I loved the storyline and characters. Gabe and Nancy are a great match. They are lovers that separated years ago and reconnected by chance. There was misunderstandings and fear that almost derailed their happily ever after.
Cute little story...enjoyed the read and loved the two of them together the chemistry never left from 10 years ago...good things come to those who wait.
Nancy and Gabe started out as acquaintances that developed into a loving relationship. Two young people started out as friends but ended up as a happy married family.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about "Chasing After Love". I did not hate it, but sadly I wasn't enamored. There were some tropes and stereotypes I personally was not a fan of. Sometimes I felt pulled in and out of the story due to the various side plots. I would have liked to see more attention focused on the rekindling romance between Nancy and Gabe, but I ultimately understand certain choices were made in order to show how the main characters came to find themselves in their respective situations. I will potentially pick up another book by the author; the writing itself was fine so I'm curious to see if something in her backlist would suit me a bit better.
As an aside: When I picked this up, I was under the impression that the Carnivale would play a larger role in the story and was anticipating that. However, it was used briefly as a way to reunite the main love interests.
This was a perfect second time around love story. Nancy wanted to love and be love yet the man she thought she was going to spend the rest of her life with turned out to be alter and a cheat she felt broken and defeated. Writing off ever having true love in Her life she decided she would just work on rebuilding her relationship with her mom. Little did she know That by attending the Carnivale in Chicago she would run into The first man who truly broke her heart , and how that would change her life forever
Sweet second time around love story with just enough drama to make it interesting☺️❤️
This is amazing love story . You have to let it go if it’s meant to be it will come back . Well that statement came true for Gabe and Nancy . True love always in forever. Sylvia I wanted to fight her from the beginning of reading her name . She was just to much . Get this read it and let’s talk about it
