Internship with the Devil

Rate this book
Grace Turner scores the opportunity of a lifetime interning with an Ex-NFL player. But working under Brock Anderson turns out to be the job from hell. The hometown hero turned athletic trainer has a reputation as the best in his field, but his volatile personality makes working with him miserable.

Despite the animosity between them, he’s highly respected in his field and interning under him could mean everything for her career. The long days, longer nights, injuries, and busses filled with smelly athletes are the easy part. The biggest battle is the unwarranted attraction to Brock that she can’t seem to shake.

But as Grace spends more and more time with her brooding boss, she uncovers that his abrasive nature is deep rooted in his grief—something she’s no stranger to.

The glimpses of the man beneath the harsh exterior Brock presents to the world leave Grace conflicted in her feelings for him. As the internship draws to a close, Grace is faced with a choice that could set her future on an entirely new course.

Enemies to lovers, slow burn, AND sports? I am so in. I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of Internship with the Devil but will buy a physical copy to put on my Favorites bookshelf. If you're a fan of Mariana Zapata, then you'll love this novel. Grace is one of my favorite heroines--she's so down to earth and funny. I love her sass and how she isn't afraid to stand up for herself. Then there's Brock, wonderful, caring, sexy Brock. I loved the character development with both but especially enjoyed learning what made Brock tick. The tension between the two is undeniable and strung so tightly that it's truly exquisite torture. And the ending--I sighed and had the biggest smile on my face when I finished it. It's that good. Put it on your lists!

first time reading this author!

a grumpy, assholery alpha and his intern set in the sport environment, a huge chemistry burning between them but the actual fireworks you don't get until the very end.

the hot and cold whiplash from their interactions are both entertaining as much as they are annoying and a bit cruel-ish, but you endure it for the rooting part in you! *wink*

Oh, boy. This book.

I went into it expecting a sexy, fun romp. What I got was that... and so much more.

Internship with the Devil was basically the fudge on and ice cream sundae. Warm and gooey and oh so good. It was the slowest of the slowburn, with chemistry for days, and I loved absolutely everything about it.

Grumpy, asshole Anderson, aka Brock, was a hard shelled man with a soft center that only Grace could unwrap. He was her boss, she was his intern, and everything about them being together was wrong when it came to Brock, at least. He was bound and determined to push her away, until he couldn't. Then the sweetest friendship, with that underlying electric current, burst from the pages as I read each one. I haven't rooted this hard for a couple in a very long time.

Besides the epic romance, I loved the fact that Grace worked in a mostly male-dominated field and was treated like just another worker. She was never degraded or looked down upon by her male coworkers and that's refreshing to me. So much. I need more stories like this in my life. Powerful women who bring grumpy men to their knees.

I highly rec this story for anyone who loves sports romances that are just a bit different than most.

DNF at 33%. I tried. I really did. But I don’t think I can continue this book with a guarantee that I will eventually like it. I don’t like the characters, they are confusing and forceful. The chemistry seems forced. The scenes are repetitive and unoriginal. Brock has been rude to Grace the first time they meet, solely because he judged her as undeserving and untalented based on her dress. Grace calls him out on it and Brock apologises for being rude and they leave their differences behind. Except, they don’t. Grace continuously brings up how he is an “asshole” and Brock repeatedly apologises and explains that he takes time to apologise.

Brock is also possessive and territorial, even though there is nothing going on between him and Grace. Though Grace says she doesn’t like being given any special treatment or treated like a baby, Brock still gives her a special treatment sometimes, and Grace doesn’t seem to have any problem then. She swoons and “melts”.

I also wasn’t thrilled about all the different ways Grace told us about the colour of Brock’s eyes.
They’re blue, if you *somehow* missed it.

Internship with the Devil is the first book in the Shut Up and Kiss Me series and we meet Brock and Grace. Their relationship is tumultuous at times but with a solid grounding in friendship first. This is a slow burner that will keep you hanging on, just waiting for that first kiss!

I loved how the tension was there all the way through, but both of them were completely professional. I'm not saying I didn't want something to happen, just that I can appreciate it not happening! Although Brock holds his cards close to his chest, Grace has the ability to wriggle beneath his guard and gets him to loosen up. She is a hard worker and isn't prepared to dramatise things for no reason.

There is a brilliant supporting cast of characters and I hope that some, if not all, of them have their own stories in the future.

A wonderful read that I highly recommend.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

I have mixed feelings about this story. It was a good story but it took me some time to really get into the story.

‘Internship with the devil’ is a slow burn story. Normally I like slow burn stories very much but here, for me personally, the slow burn was a bit too slow and the romance took a bit too long. Part of that is that in the middle of the story it became obvious (to me) that both Brock and Grace had feelings for each other. And although I can understand why Brock waited until the end to make a move, I would have liked it better if they had declared their feelings for each other sooner. So that made that I liked the middle part of the story the most and the beginning and the last part of the story a bit less.

I found it hard to connect with Brock in the beginning. He had an instant dislike to Grace (without a good reason) and his moods would change from one moment to the next. I found his character confusing. But Brock did grew on me the more I learned about him and his past, he became more vulnerable and I got to understand him better. Later in the story, he was a great friend to Grace, he was there for her when she needed him. He hid a good heart. He was a good guy. Brock was intelligent, a hard worker and very good at his job.
Grace’s a really funny character. I loved her from the beginning. She’s friendly, a hard worker, with a lot of passion for her dreams, she’s a bit goofy and I would go so far as saying a nerd at times. She’s also very stubborn (but then so was Brock). Although she was alone in the world, she was strong and positive and luckily she had very good friends she could lean on.

Both Grace and Brock shared a tragic lost in their past. It had wounded them not only physic but also emotional. That created a strong bond between them and made for a few emotional scenes. I loved those scenes and also the banter in this story. I liked it that the writer gave us a glimpse of their future.

The story was told from Grace’s POV. The secondary characters were loyal friends and funny and brought entertainment into the story.

‘Internship with the devil’ was a good story but it was just a bit too slow for me.

This romance by Jacqueline Snow was exactly what I needed to curl up with at night during these crazy stressful times. If you enjoy a slow burn with lots of vulnerability and heart, this book is for you. And when I say slow burn, I mean holy cow, there were a few times I wanted to toss the book at the wall because, hello, kiss already! I was cheering for Grace and Brock to get together, but I also really loved the way their relationship developed as beautiful friends first.

Grace is a sports intern with Brock at a local university and boyo did I want to flick Brock in the head a few times for being kind of a rude jerk, and for completely shutting out his emotions. But I loved Grace and how she didn’t put up with his crap and also didn’t allow the drama to get in the way of their developing friendship and love story. They both have some serious grief and wounds in their past and the way they helped each other deal with that grief was really well done. This isn’t a lighthearted sports romance; it’s a beautiful love story between two people longing for love.

✔ Wow. This book was a unique n a different journey for me. I loved the leads n the story. 🆒📚💃

✔ Brock was a multi-dimensional hero. I loved him so much. He had many facets. His character personification was great to witness. His one line when he would say - "Grace, look at me" had such a searing effect! 💖

✔ Grace was a spirited girl who shone so much light on her persona but also had a sweet soul inside.

✔ The back n forth between Brock n Grace was just Dayummmmmmm...... Their slow-burn intense arguments n face-offs were hot n sizzling. They had such a powerful chemistry! 💥🔥

✔ This book was outside of the usual norm n that's what stood out. It's an experience that readers shouldn't miss! Heartfelt satisfaction on reading this! 💚❤💜💛💙

Grace is excited when she gets the internship of her dreams working for an ex-NFL player, Brock Anderson, but is horrified on her first day to discover he’s the same man her friends dared her to flirt with a few weeks earlier - the man who rudely rejected her. It’s clear from the start that Brock doesn’t like her or think she’s suitable for the internship, and she’s determined to prove him wrong. A friendship develops between them, but as she gets to know him, she realises her feelings might be deeper than she first thought.

I just loved reading this. This is exactly what I needed to read! I just loved the dynamic between them. Their chemistry is so good, and it’s also very much a slow burn. I was just longing for something physically to happen between them. Brock was so grumpy, and clearly wanted her so bad - whilst still being protective and caring. She was so confused by his behaviour and I’m just a sucker for this dynamic. It had all the components for conflict that I like: her lack of family, the fact she overworks, her clumsiness, her obliviousness to Brock’s feelings. But she also puts him in his place, she tells him when he’s behaving badly, and I loved that! She definitely wasn’t a doormat.

I did think at points he was hard to like, and I do think the book as a whole suffered a little bit for not having Brock’s POV. I would have liked to know what was going on inside his head when he did or said certain things, but at the same time, I quite liked the misunderstanding and confusion from her angle. I just really enjoyed reading it - it was really fun, and after just finishing a few darker, angsty historical romances in a row, this was just what I needed. Frothy and light, minimal angst, and a really entertaining, fun dynamic between its central characters. I would recommend to anyone looking for a boss/employee, hate-to-love romance with a grumpy/sunshine couple.

I love reading Jaqueline Snowe's books, so I was thrilled to see a new one available. This one holds true to her style of writing about young adults involved in sports on some level. But it also strays from what I'm used to as this one has more of a slow burn between the main characters. And I was okay with that.

I think Grace is my favorite female lead so far in Snowe's books. She was forced into independence by being orphaned by the age of 18. An accident in her past also gave her some minor physical restrictions in life that she has been able to overcome through sheer determination. She has an amazing strength about her. But she is also soft inside and vulnerable.

When we meet Brock, she has dubbed him Asshole Anderson, and for good reason. He is just belligerent and cranky and a slave driver. But you do get the sense right away that there is good reason for it. We know that he was injured and his football career was cut short. But there's more there.

The two of them are perfect for each other. They innately understand each other, even if they don't realize it, because they have both been through serious tragedies in their lives. Grace has a light about her that can bring Brock out of his darkness. And he is able to teach her so much about herself and help her achieve her dream in life.

I love watching their relationship ebb and flow, even if it is frustrating at times. I've been around those men who seem to swing back and forth in their affections. So I understood a lot of what Grace was going through with this and in other aspects of her life.

At the end of the book, Snowe suddenly shifts gears to her more usual smoldering style of storytelling. I almost felt like the last part of the book felt a little out of place with the way the rest of the story was unfolding and perhaps I was reading a different story. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this story and devoured it in one evening.

Thank you to the author and to Goddess Fish for providing me a requested review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a impartial review via LibraryThing. I was quite surprised to receive it since it is not my kind of book - I must have clicked on it by mistake or perhaps there was something in the initial blurb that caught my eye. It is a straight up romance (just in case you couldn't tell from the title, cover, or series title). That being said I will try to be fair. I liked the premise of the book in that a college student had obtained an internship in her subject with the college football team. She was knowledgeable of her field, worked hard, and didn't play any of those "cute girl" games. She was a well developed character and someone you could imagine meeting on any college campus or early career setting. The character of her boss was also well developed and he was knowledgeable in his field and dedicated to his job. I like to see a strong work ethic, expertise, and a depth of knowledge portrayed. Other characters were developed to a greater or lesser extent, as fit the needs of the story. The writing was good and the story flowed in a logical manner with an appropriate amount of uncertainty pushing it along. This was a romance that actually had a well thought out plot to move the story along. What I didn't like was the course language (although not unexpected based on the setting), resorting to alcohol to deal with a problem (although this was incident specific and not the go to response - which was good), and the predictable ending. There were a few tantalizing sub-plots that I would have loved to see developed and some other characters in the book that I would have loved to see more of - they had the potential to be that interesting. The book was well written and had a satisfactory ending, that left just enough questions that I was left wondering what happens next.

3.5 stars. I really liked this book, the angst, the flow, the heartfelt history, the repeated grovel ('cause he a dumbass so there was a lot of need for this). It could've gotten a solid 5-star from me if:

1) The hero was consistently written, not up and down like that.
Yes, he was hot and cold, but when he was cold, wow. He was MEAN. Very mean. I don't like that. And that part near the end where his sister's best friend came to visit? For someone who was obsessively aware of the heroine in ALL situations, that was completely out of character for him. To just dismiss her like she was nothing. LOL also he like changed overnight without explanation like did he go to therapy (because he should) and that was why he started flirting and touchy-feely?

2) The heroine's dad backstory had a closure.
Like? All that daddy issues for what? Just for tragic purposes. I felt like it should've gotten some closure.

3) The hero's anger at the one-bedroom mistake was toned down.
The hell? He was mean for no reason, not her fault. And he just... abandoned her? ARGH!!! And did he explain his assholishness? NO!

God, I loved the heroine, she was a sunshine through and through but she could be a bit of a doormat dumbass sometimes. Sure, she did gave him a hard time when he tried to apologise, but she deserved more grovelling and explanation than what happened at the end.

What I liked about the book, though, was their banter, their relationship flow. I loved the heroine so much and I wished she got a much more effort than Brock gave. She deserved the world.

Anyway, I'm in love with Jaqueline's book (I read First Meet Foul) now. She writes angst perfectly. On to the next book, let's go Gilly!

This is the first book in the Shut Up and Kiss Me series. It was an enjoyable read. It’s well written with a good storyline. This was my first book by this author, and I’ll be looking at more of her books to add to my reading list. I couldn’t put the book down. The story pulled me in and before I knew it several hours had past and I was almost done with the book. There were multiply times where this book had me laughing and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Grace earns a slot to intern with Brock who’s an athletic trainer and ex NFL player. Brock is a serious jerk to Grace but she won’t give in and give him the satisfaction of giving up so she muscles through, determined to impress him with her determination and hard work. She’s going to learn as much as she can before the end of her four-month internship. The more time they spend with each other the closer they become but the attraction isn’t something they can afford to give in to. Brock is Graces boss and her grade for the class she’s taking depends on her internship. Grace starts to fall in love with Brock but he’s hot and cold with her so she’s unsure of how he really feels. What will happen when the internship is over, and Brock is no longer her boss.

I am a sucker for a good sports romance and Internship with the Devil fit that bill to a T!

I LOVED Grace. She was bold and unapologetic. She worked hard and took the punches that her jerk of a boss kept throwing her way in stride. If only he wasn't so enigmatic and good looking she might've been able to keep her head from warring with her heart when it came to Brooks.

Oh Brooks, a man carrying all the guilt in the world on his shoulders. And he transferred all that frustration and anger onto Grace. But she wasn't taking it. For every awful task, she smiled, made a new friend and held her head high. He didn't know how to handle her positivity and the fact that she could call him out when he was being unfairly mean. All he did know was she sparked something in him that he didn't know what to do with. Add in the touch of the forbidden and it was a recipe for something explosive.

Internship with the Devil was a delicious slow burn, enemies to lovers, workplace romance had me laughing almost as much as it had me wanting to lock them in a room. Jaqueline Snowe made me wait for it, but oh my goodness, the moment Brooks and Grace finally confess their feelings that had been brewing all semester was sooooooo worth it.

Why should you read this book?🤔
👇🏻
It has those “devilish” 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

👍🏻Author Jaqueline has done an amazing job with the background of the story, plot and seamlessly blended characters🤩 The book has yumm-licious characters! Swooon...😍😋
👍🏻 A grumpy boss and a punky intern! Grace Turner scores the opportunity of a lifetime interning with an Ex-NFL player. But working under Brock Anderson turns out to be the job from hell. The biggest battle is the unwarranted attraction to Brock that she can’t seem to shake.
"My imagination was having a field day comparing Anderson to anything evil. The Hitler of Hydration. The Napoleon of Ice Coolers. I kept my head high, chin out, and stride strong. I was scheduled for my lunch break, and I was starving, but I needed to win the war."
As the internship draws to a close, Grace is faced with a choice that could set her future on an entirely new course.
👍🏻 This book is a perfect blend of friendship, doubt, grief, bond and finding true love. The book is definitely worth the read🔥
👍🏻My recommendation: If you are looking for a athletic trope romance, this is the perfect book❤

If you yearn for slow-burn romances, then Internship with the Devil is the book for you.

Grace Turner needs an internship to finish her degree, but she can't believe her bad luck when she finds that the good looking, bad-spirited, former football player, with a chip on his shoulder, Brock Anderson, is her boss. Worse, he's pigeon-holed her as incompetent on-sight.

One of the things Jaqueline Snow does in this book is to focus on relationship growth and character development. While this is good in a lot of ways, I found that it bogged down the pacing. Even though the interactions were snappy and sassy, the relationship status was monotonous. I needed something more than this forward constant. Maybe, I'm not a slow-burn romance girl, but late-late pay-off feels like a tease instead of a reward.

I did like the characters a lot; I would have enjoyed them more in a faster-paced story. All in all, this is not my cup of tea, but it is still something I recommend for others who enjoy long steeped cuppa to read.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Grace and Brock. Grace is a young woman who is in college to become an athletic trainer, she's lost her mom and trying to keep her head above water. So when she gets an internship with the football team she's ecstatic. She will be working with Brock Anderson, the ex NFL player who is a top notch trainer at the school. Upon meeting Brock, Grace is blown away by his grumpiness and his crappy attitude. But eventually she gets too know not better and he reveals about his accident and losing his sister and niece. They work together well but he always seems to get jealous when any guy, including other coaches and players talk to her. But she can't figure out why. The four months of her internship leave her with whiplash, with feelings and what to do after graduation. Glad they get a HEA after all their loss.

Slow burn, decent characters. Not much development in terms of secondary characters or world building. Grace and Brock are in a spot light, and sooooometimes a side character stands on the edge.

By far the biggest BUT is the emotional whiplash in the first half of the book. Honestly the hot and cold crap went on way too long. Just. Way too long. It all in Grace's POV, which makes sense. Brock is so herky jerky/hot-cold there's be no way to write his POV without him coming off imbalanced. Like touched in the head. It isn't like it adds to the plot or complexity of the characters. It's just this giant rut the book get stuck in

Slow burns typically means books you're ok putting down. The first half nearly pushed it to 'ok not picking back up again'

My first Jacquline Snowe. I hope she doesn't give all her characters needlessly traumatic backgrounds to give them depth.

Brock Anderson (aka Asshole Anderson) is an NFL player turned athletic trainer and hot boss. I could feel practically see his muscles y’all. He was angry, emotional, passionate, and sweet.

Grace was hard working, ambitious, and just a joy.

Enemies ➡️ Friends ➡️ Lovers

This book was very cute and felt like a new adult romance. There wasn’t that much angst or drama 🙌🏼 The sexual tension and chemistry were there 🔥

A quick sport romance read that fills your heart with joy 🙂

Pick this up if you like office romances and seeing coworkers fall in love!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Sports Rating: 🏈🏈🏈/🏈🏈🏈

It was nice to have a sport romance about the other side of sports and not have a character be an active athlete but rather people who work in sports 🥰

Internship with the Devil by Jaqueline Snow. This is my first book by this author, and I have to say it will not be my last. I enjoyed this book, the characters and their unique circumstance, the banter between the main characters felt genuine, and their journey sucked you right in as though you were living it with them. Brook and Grace had so many tender moments as well as frustrating ones that left me feeling like I had whiplash. Overall, I would recommend this author and book to others. This romance had perfect character development, from the main pair to the secondary all blending together for an unforgettable plot.

This was slow-burn perfection!!!! PERFECTION!
I love reading a relationship develop with the tension, the jealousy and the emotional connection building before it turns sexual because quite frankly this is the only order that makes sense for me. A lot of times authors will tell you that the characters love each other and things get spicy but the reader doesn‘t see the connection. This was not the case here. They were perfect for each other and understood each other so deeply.

PS: What does making a raspberry even mean? 😂
