Written by 2 authors, one came into Reiki through the practice of yoga and the other one via Google search.

Reiki means "universal life force" or "spiritual energy".

The Reiki Healing Handbook focuses on the history, chakras, and symbols of Reiki. These extra tools were the main focus of the guide. (I was personally expecting more emphasis on the system of Reiki, itself.)

I had no idea there over 150 different styles being practiced today! I really enjoyed studying the history, observing the differences between the techniques, and discovering which systems I felt most drawn to.

(I still don't fully comprehend how someone can name an energetic healing system after themselves, especially some of the later developed styles of Reiki such as the one created in 1995 by William Rand? There isn't much depth of history given, just a brief over-review. I found it most interesting, but I still have questions.)

Reiki is:
A nonreligious practice that is non-evasive and can be practiced by anyone. It was originally developed as a spiritual practice by founder Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920s and is a popular healing modality in the West.

The 5 elements of a Reiki practice:
1. Precepts
2. Hands-on-Healing
3. Meditations
4. Mantras and Symbols
5. Attunement

All of these except the attunement can be practiced on your own.

Because this book talks about working with crystals, oils, chakras, auras, and other ways of working with the energetic body and adding these to a Reiki practice, I can't say this book is for beginners. It's a good book to refer to if you have an idea of what's being talked about, but if you aren't familiar with some of these tools, you may have to/want to refer elsewhere. I think it will be a great book for when I am further along, but for now, I can still get some good use out of the basics.

My favorite parts of the book were the illustrated guides. (I wish all of the book would have been like this!)
I refer to these over and over again:
• Self-Healing
• Reiki Symbols
• Healing Others

I had a hard time visualizing the yoga poses and some of the meridian exercises because there were no photos for these exercises, only written instructions. Both of the authors are yoga teachers, I have not taken time to honor the correct yoga pose names and didn't know what positions were being described. Another thing I had a hard time with was after the symbols had been taught, they continued to only be abbreviated after that. This is one I'll have to work further with and study up on.

Much gratitude to publisher Rockridge Press, and Callisto Media for the early copy I received. I was under no obligation to write a review, my honest opinion is freely given.

I now start to practice Reiki on myself, my animals, family, plants, home, food, finances, and more! Thank you!

This book came at a good time for me: I have been a reiki master for about 10 years but have stepped away from my practice as a regular part of my spiritual path. I requested a review copy of this book for fun, to revive my personal practice a bit. This was a quality introduction, and I appreciated how words and terms were explained kindly. I appreciated the deeper information about gassho and meditation techniques, as well as using the symbol names as mantras. These authors are not completely traditional in their practice, as they focus on chakras, but I found the information a good supplement to a regular reiki practice. Thank you to the authors, who've helped get me back on my path, and to affirm the five daily principles to keep myself right-headed in the time of Covid!

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

I requested this copy because I keep hearing about the healing properties of reiki(well, I did in South Florida, not so much in Huntsville AL). I have never read anything on reiki or watched any videos or anything so I was basically starting from scratch...which is apparently something this book was good for. The Handbook started with how reiki began and the many many types that now exist before it moved on to other information. I found it very interesting that there are over 150 different styles being practiced today. The authors also include a description of each of the chakras and what they consist of and there are even illustrations of the symbols and hand positions that are used in practice. I have no interest in becoming a reiki master and was mostly just interested in learning about the practice, but this book will help you decide if reiki is right for you.

This book interested me because I knew virtually nothing about Reiki. I was curious to find out if it was a path I’d be interested in pursuing. I don’t think Reiki is a practice I want to work towards, but this book is very informative. It gives background on the various Reiki traditions, symbols, and hand positions. I think it is important to note that while this book is very informative, Reiki is meant to be taught. I’m sure you could put some of this book into practice without having attunements, but that seems to be a very important aspect of the tradition. I think this book is more of a guide for people who are about to begin Reiki training or who have already begun. I’ll be passing this book along to someone who will get more use out of it than me.

I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

If you're interested in learning more about reiki or are considering looking into becoming a practitioner, this would be a great book to start with. The authors give you a thorough look at the history of reiki, the different practices and levels involved in the art, a glossary of the terms used, as well as an in-depth description of the chakras. They also share illustrations of the symbols and hand positions that are used in practice. I didn't know much about reiki before reading this book. I have had some interaction with a practitioner and have found my sessions to be helpful, but this book was very informative about the whys and hows of reiki. *Advance copy provided by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I received a complimentary print copy of this book. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

The Reiki Healing Handbook is well organized and perfect for the novice interested in this ancient method of natural healing. It is separated into 15 chapters beginning with Reiki fundamentals, history and key terminology.

The book flows with an introduction to Reiki healing explaining the levels of practice as related to the a person’s mastery of the training. An explanatory of the seven chakras is provided to assist with understanding Reiki symbols and healing techniques. It is a helpful guide with separate chapters addressing different types of chakras and healing.

I recommend this book for anyone interested in alternative healing and spiritual healing.

The first thing I noticed about this book is that both authors are Reiki Masters. They have experience and training in Reiki practice and instruction. The book is split into two parts. About 120 pages are dedicated to Reiki Fundamentals. This first part gives you what you need to get started. The second part, at around 50 pages, focuses on Healing Techniques. The problem with only using a book for learning Reiki is that you don't get the full experience. You can use the book to give you a solid foundation, but it's really more of something you need to practice and experience. This book is an excellent primer for beginners or people who want to know the basics, especially if paired with in-person learning.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not influence my review.

Reiki Healing Handbook is a lovely introductory guide to the practice and principles of Reiki. It has a lot of information and is presented in an engaging and approachable way. There is also a great guide to the chakras and different associations. A great reference book to add to your personal library.
Many thanks Rockridge Press and NetGalley for the advance copy.

While you need to be atuned by a reiki master, this book will assist you in deciding if reiki is the right energy healing tool for you. Learn the steps, about chakras, and so much more.

I have been studying Reiki to learn to practice healing for at about 6-8 months and I have read multiple books on the subject. This book makes sense to me and is in keeping with the other study guides I have been reading. I truly find Reiki healing to be a fascinating art and this book has a great deal of useful information.

I have learned this is truly a healing form that takes a great deal of dedication, practice and desire to learn correctly. I am by far no expert but I really enjoyed the book and I feel it is a great choice for those wishing to learn more about the healing art of Reiki.

I received this book from Callisto Publishing and Rockridge Press for an honest review
