Six years ago, Kitty Valentine took the book world by storm when her sweet debut romance hit number one on the New York Times Best Sellers list, which was followed by a string of successful releases. Her latest novel, however, totally bombs, causing her editor to suggest she write much sexier books. To Kitty, writing smut is the literary equivalent of stripping. But with no advance coming in and her royalties dipping to an all-time low, Kitty has no choice. Armed with a hot-guy spinning prize wheel, made by her best friend, listing all the different types of men she will date and then write about, Kitty will be spinning-not stripping-her way back onto the best-sellers list.

Kitty Valentine dates a Billionaire is such a fun, light, and fresh read. It was just the book I needed with all the heavy stuff going on in the world. I've read most of Jillian Dodd's books, and this is unlike anything she's written before. Kitty is a refreshing heroine and I can't wait to go on more adventures with her!
Kitty Valentine is a successful romance author. More than successful, really. Most of her books end up on the top of the best sellers list. Except her newest release. You see, Kitty is known for writing more clean and wholesome romance. The kind with the fade to black love scenes. It's what she knows and she's good at it. But it's not selling like it used to... you know what they say, sex sells.
Kitty's agent gives her an idea. Go on some dates, get some inspiration from popular troupes and then write a book unlike anything you've written. Kitty feels a little overwhelmed at first, but she wants to give the readers what she wants. Writing is what she loves, so she'll give it a try. Up first... dating a billionaire.
“Good luck with dating your billionaire boss. I can hardly wait to see how things turn out in your next book.”
Kitty is such a fun heroine. I enjoyed reading her story and being in her head. I think this is going to be a really fun series, watching Kitty navigate the dating scene and date different kinds of guys, then write about her experiences. I loved this take on a fun, flirty, and sexy romance book and I'll definitely be reading more!
This is the first story in a new series featuring Kitty Valentine, a best selling romance author being challenged to push her writing boundaries and keep up with reading trends.
Kitty has found success writing romance novels over the past six years, often making the best seller lists. She loves her job and the flexibility that comes with being her own boss. She has just released her latest novel and is gobsmacked when her editor informs her that it was a complete flop. There will be no champagne celebrations this time. If Kitty wants her next story to avoid the same outcome she needs to write out of her comfort zone - descriptive, steamy novels.
Kitty has no idea where to begin, writing what she knows has always worked for her. The level of smut her editor alluded to is completely out of her comfort zone and her life experiences thus far. The only thing she can do now is immerse herself in research and that includes experiencing some of things she needs to write about.
After deciding the trope of her next novel, Kitty sets out to capture the attention of a man that can help her, a very good looking billionaire bachelor who happens to own the publishing house she writes for. All in the name of research of course. Getting Blake Marlin’s attention ends up not being too much of a challenge, although slightly humiliating for Kitty.
Kitty had romantic notions of what dating a billionaire would be like and yes there are definitely perks that she could have never imagined, like extravagance and experiences she could never afford herself. Fortunately for Kitty, she gets what she needs to write her book but she also discovers that money does not equal happiness and you can have it all, yet have nothing you really need. Blake is a really lovely guy and when he was truly with Kitty she got a glimpse of how wonderful things could be with him.
Time to spin the wheel and decide on who will feature in her next story and I’m hoping it may be the cute neighbour one of these days because I think the awakening that Kitty needs is right across the hall.
This is a story written by an author about an author writing a story which is a really clever plot to undertake. You get the story and then glimpses of the story that Kitty is writing at the same time. A really unique experience and one that I loved. I’m sure everyone will have their favourite guy picked out by the end of this series and hoping she ends up with him. I’m team Blake for now but I also like Matt...
I found this series through Instagram and the premise just sounded so fun. A writer needs inspiration for her romance novels, so her friends makes a spinner wheel of different tropes and she goes on different dates to be able to expand her horizons.
This had me laughing out loud constantly and at one specific scene around the middle, I was laughing so much my family were sitting around looking at me like I was crazy. I can't wait for the next books in the series because this was just a fun rom-com and a great read after the flops that my first reads of this year have been.
This book was so unlike Jillian Dodd's other books, especially as the heroine is older in age, which I absolutely loved. Our heroine is a #1 best-selling author and has hit the top of the list with every release, except her last one, which didn't hit at all. Kitty's wholesome romance is not the trope that readers want anymore and so Kitty has to admit that she needs to get a little more risque in what she writes. Not being the most experienced woman, Kitty's best friends creates a "spin the wheel" of dates, and up first is the billionaire.
This was fresh, fun, flirty read, that was unputdownable. I haven't read a book in weeks since lockdown, my brain just cannot focus, but this book managed to hold it until the last page was read. I laughed, I smiled, I loved, and I cannot wait to read what comes next in this series. A great start to a new series.
4.5⭐️ I’m officially addicted to this series. Kitty Valentine is a romance writer, but when her latest book bombs, her publisher thinks she needs to write more smut. However, her lack of dating (and sexual) experience makes writing her new book hard so her bff creates a plan: Spin a wheel filled with character tropes (firefighter, billionaire, doctor, etc.) and whoever the wheel lands on is who Kitty must date for research purposes. I’ll be honest, when I first picked this up, I had no idea what to expect, but then I flew through the first two in less than a day. 😅 These books are fun, flirty, sexy, and hella addictive. Not to mention, Kitty’s awkwardness brings some major hilarity, which makes for a light-hearted and easy read. I definitely recommend the Kitty Valentine series by @jilliandodd if you are looking for some fun, quick-read romances!
First read 11/22/20: Oh. My. Gosh. I can already tell this is gonna be one of the most fun series to read through!!! I mean what isn’t fun about a romance writer spinning a wheel to find out what kind of guy to date so she can write her newest romance novel???
These are short novels that are hilarious, sweet, lightly dirty (this is a thing I swear), and just had a smile on my face the whole time!!!
Haley (@hayleereads)... you are a GEM for finding this series and telling me to read it. I’m obsessed.
Second read 1/9/21: I had to bump up the rating to 5⭐️ because this is just sweet, cute, and too damn amazing. This reread was the first book in the Under the Covers Book Club and I was so amazing this second time around! I still absolutely adore Kitty and I can’t wait to experience her growth all over again. Also... MATT. That’s all.
This is kinda cute and also a fresh spin to the Romance genre
Knowing the rest of series is titled Kitty dates . I know Kitty's relationship with Billionaire Blake won't last . Its also kinda ridiculous and unbelivable that Kitty is such a prude and cringe at the thought of writing sex scenes. God she about to freak writing down the word Pussy. Kitty writes romance really? Does she even read any other Romance books?
But its fun to read about Kitty dating other types of man to churn out books and I wonder who she will eventually end up with
I loved the basis of this story! Kitty Valentine is a NY times bestselling writer who has to revamp her writing and bring in the sexy. Her brilliant friend Hayley decides to create the famous spinning wheel of guys for Kitty to date. Billionaire is only the beginning. This was a hilarious and entertaining start to the series. Can’t wait to continue this journey with Kitty 🙂
Kitty Valentine... single HEA believer romance writer best selling author
All these things about Kitty Valentine are true... until her new released book flops. Her boss says her wholesome/clean romance novels have got to go... no more predictable stories... no more missionary positions. Its time to spin the wheel and spice it up. So Haley, her best friend does just that, creating a dating wheel for Kitty to spin, pick her next subject and do some research for her next level steamy romance book... soon to be series.
First subject? Billionaire. And who better to pick than her boss's boss's boss.. Blake Marlin CEO of Marlin Enterprises, Billionaire extraordinaire and general hottie with a body.
The rules.. date, research, write, repeat. Don't catch feelings... ugh ya tell that to a romance writer!
Between being wisked off to new cities and fancy dinners, Kitty is at home with fingers glue to her keyboard writing as much as she can with a deadline ahead, and a hot neighbor whose bedroom wall is connected to her office. This friendship could be fun... it could also be the end game I want to see happen most. Although I reeaaaaally loved Blake.
This series is sex in the city meets how to lose a guy in 1o days. You will laugh till you cry, pee pads are recommended if that is an issue for you. Jillian does a spectacture job switching from YA writer to NA and I WANT MORE!.
Who are we landing on next? Doctor... bring it on. Rating: story:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 laugh out loud: 😂😂😂😂😂/5 steam: her books... steamy goodness... kitty's life... your reality
So I wish I had read this one first, since it is the first book, but it was still good after book two! I love Kitty and her utter clumsiness. Also still love Matt and have my theories on that. These books are fun and easy, quick reads! I've finished both in around two hours! They're definitely not very steamy, but I don't mind! If you're looking for a fun romcom, I definitely recommend this series!!
This book was so much fun and exactly what I was looking for. I needed something fun and light and this book delivered. Kitty is such a relatable character. She's funny, charming, and awkward too. This book was so much fun and so funny that I was laughing out loud a lot and I couldn't help but smile throughout, and maybe cringe a little too. I love Kitty as a character and I can't wait to keep reading!
second read: This book was so much fun the second time around too! Still as funny and adorable. It's such a good time, I loved it.
This book is absolutely hilarious. To be able to dive inside a writer's brain in the mist of writing is phenomenal.
The relationship between Kitty and her neighbor Matt is comical. Also the relationship with her billionaire boss is so true and honest.Kitty is the combination of all the insecurities girls feel and think whether or not it is perceived to be real. The uncertainty she experiences before dates and afterwards are so real it makes you feel it with her. This book gives you a little steam, but not an inferno. She keeps you wanting for more.
This is the first book in the series and I cannot wait to devour the next one!

The perfect story for when you’re in the mood for a quick, funny, light-hearted romantic book. Kitty is a somewhat naïve, no nonsense, awkward heroine. She had a firm idea of what a sweet romance author writes and now she has to venture outside her comfort zone. I love how her life turns upside down and into investigating romantic tropes for steamy inspiration. So much fun to read and I can’t wait to see what trope she dates next! Blake as the billionaire was perfectly played out. Onward with more dating misadventures with Kitty!
I love everything Jillian has wrote so far, but I'm not sure I'm sold on Kitty.
Kitty is a romance author who has been asked to write something outside of her comfort zone if she wants to continue her job as a writer. I found Kitty to be a bit annoying. Like in an uptight prudish sort of way and she's very needy. Research is research and I felt she could have delved deeper into it by reading what's hot on the market along with dating different guys. Her relationship with the billionaire didn't do anything for me.
All in all, it was a fun read. There were moments I literally laughed out loud. I look forward to seeing where her research takes her next.
someone make this into a movie or tv series ASAP because i need it in my life. i’m obsessed with romcoms and this is the epitome of it, so fun, so steamy, just the right amount of emotional turmoil. Kitty Valentine is a character with flaws and sometimes i wanted to jump into the book and ask WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS but i think i love that about her. i can’t wait to read the rest of these books and i can already see it becoming an all time favorite!
• second time reading •
i’m lowering this one to a 4 star because i know there’s books in this series that i liked more than this one so it just feels right
I’ve been reading Jillian for a while now and this is new and different from other things she’s written.
I love this Kitty Valentine story and the adventures she is starting. Seriously in a perfect world where your boss says hey you need to write about hot sex instead of sweet romance. Honestly terrified is what I’d be.
While dating a Billionaire sounds amazing what happens when you get put on the back burner or the side lines whatever you want to call it. Is the dating wheel a gift or a torture wheel.

Wow. This is going to be a fun journey! Kitty Valentine needs to date different types of men from all the romance tropes in order to be able to elevate her books to smut. It didn't take me long to adore Kitty. She's real, a hot mess and doesn't make any apologies for who she is. She is a bit naive and definitely needs to live life a little and get dirty. Enter bachelor number 1 - Blake, a billionaire. She attempts some dates with him in order to get some inspiration. I can't wait to see what happens with all the men and who she ends up with, if anyone! ;)

Kitty is a "sweet romance" author with loads of of best sellers under her belt. Her latest book is a major flop and she has to come up with a spicy sexy novel to keep her publisher. Knowing nothing about different book tropes has her lost and desperate because she's so inexperienced. Best friend Hayley comes up with a plan involving a trope wheel to spin and find a man of said trope to date and research to write the book. First up is "boss/billionaire". What ensues is billionaire Blake who knows up front she is using him for research. Kitty learns a lot and with support from Hayley and sexy neighbor Matt embarks on a journey to write a spicy novel. Fun, humorous, relatively clean read & I'll be reading the next in the series
A fun premise to what looks to be a great series! Struggling romance writer Kitty has been told by her publisher she needs to spice up her books. Trying to help, her friends give her a wheel full of tropes and each book in the series sees her exploring a different one. In this book she starts dating her billionaire boss with some ups and downs along the way. Of course there's also a hot neighbor next door and I love the chemistry between those two! Looking forward to more. Entertaining on audio as well.
I absolutely LOVED this book!!! I have never laughed so hard reading a book in my whole entire life. Jillian did an amazing job with switching between characters and creating such a fun atmosphere. Who new research could be so fun? Also if this series ever becomes a movie or series can I please be Kitty? That’s all I ask. Thank you.
A book you’ll binge in one day! So freaking good!! I couldn’t stop laughing and smiling through this one! The banter between Kitty and Matt and then Kitty and Blake was amazing! Some sexy parts but not over the top. Looking forward to the rest of the books in this series!
A sweet romance. I predicted @ first meeting that the series will end with her and her neighbor— only 7ish more books to see if I’m right. I enjoyed the slow burn of romances in her That Boy series, so am anticipating that here :)
“I’m starting to think you’re the common denominator, and I need to take advantage of the fact that you fell into my life.”
Kitty Valentine is a NYT best selling author that only writes sweet romances, but when her recent book doesn’t make it to the best selling list, her publisher tells her that she needs to start writing more on-trend books, aka more dirty books which is out of her comfort zone. Her best friend comes up with an idea to help with her writing by going on dates with different types of men that you’d read in books.
In the first book, Kitty goes on a date with Blake Marlin: the CEO of the publishing house she’s in. Basically her boss, who’s a billionaire. I was a little confused because I thought that her love interest would be her next door neighbor, Matt Ryder. Overall, this was a fast read and an entertaining story.
Kitty Valentine’s journey from sweet romance to steamy storytelling is a fun and quirky ride. With her career on the line, a hot-guy spinning wheel adds humor and charm as she navigates dating and writing. This lighthearted tale is perfect for fans of witty, feel-good reads. A delightful 4-star escape into the world of love and literary reinvention!
Kitty is a very brave young author she has the guts to date different types of men just to appease her publisher. Little did she know that she would be dating the man who owns her publishing company. I did like Marlon however as time went on in this book I started to have mixed feelings about him and didn’t think that kid he deserved to be with someone like that, because he was more about his career than he was about being in a relationship with her.
