YOU’RE INVITED!
Posie Parker is finally getting married in this stand-alone short mystery story by bestselling author L.B. Hathaway. The date is Saturday 6th December, 1924. It’s snowing heavily outside, but in the little white Swiss Church in London, packed to the rafters with beautifully-dressed guests, everything is just right. All going to plan. Or is it? Where is the normal vicar? Who has changed all the flowers? And where the blazes is Posie’s beloved groom? Don’t miss this short story. Goes perfectly with a glass of something sparkling! Marriage is Murder? is full of intrigue and red herrings, and is the ninth book in the delightfully classic Posie Parker Mystery Series, although it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story in its own right. A clean read, with no graphic violence, sex or strong language. This is a classic murder mystery which will appeal to fans of Agatha Christie and Downton Abbey

L.B. Hathaway

Cambridge-educated, British-born L.B. Hathaway writes historical fiction. She worked as a lawyer at Lincoln’s Inn in London for almost a decade before becoming a full-time writer. She brings her love of detective novels set in the Golden Age of Crime and an obsession with English history to her own writing.

The Posie Parker series of cosy crime novels span the 1920s. They each combine a core central mystery, an exploration of the reckless glamour of the age and a feisty protagonist who you would love to have as your best friend.

Her other interests, in no particular order, are: very fast downhill skiing, theatre-going, drinking strong tea, Tudor history, exploring castles and generally trying to cram as much into life as possible.

This is a 4.5 🌟 read rounded ⬆️ to 5 🌟.

Another off my Goals List - this one "Have The Book - TBR"! A quick, thrilling short story that was very easy to read even though I've only read one other book from the series. Easily works as a standalone if you're looking for a shortish 1920s mystery.

This novella is so so bad with an absolutely ridiculous plot. I’ve only read two other books in this series and yet I could guess the culprit in three pages.
Then there’s the fact that Posie, one of London’s most famous detectives, doesn’t question the strange priest who can apparently perform both a Catholic and Protestant ceremony (that’s not a thing) and doesn’t question the ‘best friend’ even though his version of events has been thoroughly disproved.
She doesn’t call Scotland Yard using the phone they have only just used for a conversation with the latter...
It’s all just soooo far reaching ... The policemen at the wedding leave it to the fiancé in a wedding dress to rush off alone and rescue their missing boss... They perhaps need to reconsider their careers.
Central London is completely deserted on a Saturday afternoon because it’s nippy outside and there’s a bit of snow? Okay, sure...
If anything, this plot is just maddening and has more holes than Swiss cheese.

It is Saturday 6th of December 1924, and Rosemary ‘Posie’ Parker is marrying Richard Lovelace, Chief Commissioner of Scotland Yard, at one o’clock at the Swiss Church in London, and you are invited! L.B. Hathaway’s short story Marriage is Murder? (A Posie Parker Mystery, #9) invites you to the ceremony as previously stated. Posie and her best friend, Dolly, Countess of Cardigeon, are in Posie’s flat getting the bride ready for the marriage ceremony. The flowers have been chosen and delivered to the church. The wedding breakfast is all set and located near to the church. Posie is dressed in her striking (and comfortable) white wedding dress and headdress. She heads down to her wedding car, gets in, and off she goes to get married. When she arrives at the church, steps out of the car, and enters the church. As she stands at the back of the church, Posie wishes to smell her flowers. That is when she realizes,”Something’s wrong.” WRONG! I guess you must attend Posie’s ceremony to discover the answer. Fun!
4.5 stars!

Marriage is Murder (Posie Parker Mystery #9)— L. B. Hathaway/Narrator: Clare Wille (8 chapters + Epilogue) November 17, 2023

In this novella, Posie arrives at her wedding greeted by the smell of different flowers than what she sawshe saw being placed the night before, and no Richard Lovelace in sight. And the priest was different, too.

What was going on? Did Richard get cold feet?

Suddenly there is a thumping coming from somewhere in the building, and as everybody starts trying to find the source of the tapping, Posie is sent away to a location where Richard was supposed to be. Instead, she finds her arch-enemy. Is this the final act?

Three stars.

I have read the first 4 Posie books. Light, often fun mysteries. But Posie seemed to be getting dimmer and dimmer. I hate stupid heroines. This title became available through the library and was short, so I gave it a chance. It will be my last. When the minister is found tied up in the back room he has made noise to be found. But after the chase through London to find Richard and he turns up to be tied up in the organ loft of the church listening to everything! Could he not have moaned? Or banged his tied up feet on the floor or against a pew?

Love the cover designs.

well, its Posie's wedding day.

You'd think she'd keep it quiet and marry in secret ceremony so no funny business will occur like this. also, do it at a private location instead of a church.

Count De la Rosa again. this guy is never going to die, he keeps on coming back. kind of like a yo-yo.

She fall into his trap again. And here she missed the small things and rush to save Richard. All that rushing and no time to think. It should be London's smartest and always returns, Count De La Rosa!

Jilted at the Alter?

4.5 Stars
Suitable for teen - adult
NOVELLA - well under 100 pages long
No sex
No harsh language that I can remember
Nothing gory.

Plot no spoilers:
Posie enters the church in her beautiful white gown only to find that instead of white roses, it's filled with yellow mimosas. That, and the groom is missing. Surely he wouldn't abandon her! A message is received indicating kidnapping and giving her hope of where to find him. Off she goes into a snowstorm.

Good for a quick read.
Perfect distraction plane flight.

It's Posie's wedding day, and almost everyone is assembled. But, where is Richard, and why are there mimosa flowers in the church rather than white roses. Nothing is ever simple in Posie Parker books, and this is no different. A quick but fun read - will Posie really be married this time? Give it an hour or so and you'll find out.

Marriage is Murder?

It's the wedding day of Posie Parker and Richard Lovelace. As soon as she steps into the Swiss Church Posie feels something is wrong. And she isn't mistaken.
This is only a short Posie Parker rather than a full novel. But that doesn't take anything away from it. The story is fast paced and draws you in from the get go.
Highly recommended.

I feel like Posie, smart as she is, should have realized early on what was happening, but I'll chalk it up to nerves.

Otherwise, this is a cozy little afternoon read where we get to see many old, friendly faces and bask in the light of a truly nice happy ending without all the usual tragedies on the way.

This is part of the Posie Parker universe. Posie and her fella Richard are supposed to be getting married, but the wedding is hijacked. I won't say anymore about that.

I was a bit disappointed because the other books are full novels and this one is short, novella length. It moves far too quickly and is severely underdeveloped. On the positive side it was a quick read.

This is a quick, necessary story in the series. I would not have wanted a longer, full-length book of the wedding. It certainly could have been stretched out into that - with the drug smuggling as the major case Posie was working. This wraps up (hopefully) a couple of things so that the next, longer books don't have to address them.

3 1/2 stars. In this short novella. Posie is getting married. Or will she? She’ll have to solve a mystery and overcome some obstacles.
Entertaining but just okay. Not as well done as the recent full length mystery novel.

It is finanaly Posies wedding day, but will it happen? She gets to the church, but where are all the white roses she paid for? And the pastor dosen't look the same as last week. What is going on? Another great Posie Parker book #9 is a fast paced read.

This series started out strong for me but now... DNF - I couldn't even get through the first chapter. Posie seems more like some kind of fantasy self-insert with none of the charm from the early installments. This one was just a reminder of why I abandoned the series years ago

Short novella, as Posie can't even have a drama-free wedding ... lots of improbabilities in this one.

This was an excellent title to read while at the blood bank. A wedding, a well organised friend, and the wrong flowers make this a memorable story.

Disappointing

I have read all the Posie Parker novels. This was not up to her standards of figuring out the next step. Hopefully her next episode will be better thought out.

A Race Through Posie's 'Perfect' Day

More action than a Bond film. A noxious, nefarious villain, and a trial of faith and determination for our hero.
A fast, satisfying read.

It was ok but not sure what the point was of this short story. Unsatisfying really as no substance to the plot.
