Many of you are familiar enough with my reviews and ratings, so when I give a 5-star "salute" this is not meant lightly. And, I have added it to MY FAVORITES...

This will sound confusing, but I actually read book #2 of this series first. And, yeah, in my mind's eye and memory, it's book #1. I quickly rewound and located the "real" book #1 and devoured it directly after.
So, book #2 is my most favorite, and in both of the books, there are plenty of alluded moments of DeeDee and Zach. Stepping into book #3 kinda made everything fall back into my mind as if I had never left.
The enjoyment I get out of Katia Rose's atmospheric writing is the fact that it feels so realistic and a downright..."emotion of the moment" type creation. What I mean is, whatever Rose's going through will nearly match what DeeDee, and even Zach, journey down as their stories unfold.
Let me be very succinct. I adored Dylan & Renee's story to such a degree, I still think about them constantly. This one falls in much the same category, but also, it had such an emotional and mental impact.
When we saw DeeDee in the prior books, she felt fun and light-hearted but easily strolling into this became quite an eye-opener. There is so much more to DeeDee, or Denise, than seen on the surface. And that is key to peeling back her onion layers. She WANTS everyone to see the fun party-girl who dances like no one is watching. She packs a wallop once she opens up, though.
Zach was a stunner, to me, as well. For very different reasons. When we see him in the other two books, he feels very one-dimensional. Like his painful crush on DeeDee and being locked in the "friendzone" is one of those popular tropes that never seems to live up to its luster.
I am someone who loves friends-to-lovers and it never fails to let me down on so many levels once they break that wall or boundary and intimacy is introduced.
Something happens here where DeeDee and Zach, inside of their own book as their story unfolds...become so much more than the ancillary minor characters and then they get juicier and juicier as the book advances.
What is the genuine shocker of all... this is such an Adult Romance book it is tough to fathom these MCs are 22 [Zach] and 24 [DeeDee]. My faith in very few writers who actually feel for and deeply respect what they put their MCs through has been restored.
This book is tough to read in some aspects, particularly on DeeDee's side. What is wonderful, heartbreaking, and... done so perfectly, breathlessly real is hard ADULT choices are made with no whiney, miscommunicated dialogue. DeeDee and Zach made tough, awkward choices for the better of making damn sure each got what they wanted out of the other.
Granted Zach still lives in a bit of a fantastical world of a 3yr crush on DeeDee and then getting to have his DreamGirl right in his arms and bed. He is pretty much seemingly DONE for the rest of his life. He feels like the Forever Guy--One & Done. The Permanent One who will fall in love once and possibly only marry once because he's NOT the horndog some young men his age are.
Zach has his shit together, fairly solidly. All he wants now is the woman of his dreams by his side, forever, if possible. And it eventually becomes a do-able thing...until DeeDee faces her own realities and ghosts from the past.
What should be treasured here that we never see in too many Contemporary Romances is somewhat of a rare find. There is actually more in this story than just Zach/DeeDee hooking up. These two crazy kids have separate lives and just so happen to be work colleagues at a bar, and have been really great friends for 3yrs. Zach fell first, but DeeDee may have fallen soon after never thinking she was "right" for a great guy like Zach. It's a mutual friend-finds-friend-attractive and dreams of a relationship.
Zach is a bit more dogged, whereas DeeDee has this strange connotation when she is with Zach, in any capacity...that she is HOME... he makes her feel comfy and safe, warm and cozy.
These two are such great friends but they are even better communicators. They have real discussions, even as friends. So when DeeDee's current boyfriend drops her for his Ex?? Zach is quickly there to swoop in and save her day until she can get on her feet.
Let me break in here with...I like to say Rose is an atmospheric writer because there is something terrific and gorgeous about how she immerses readers into not just the bar scene of Tavern Toulouse, but also really knows her shit about Montreal/Quebec...
But the even better moments of this are when we can see Rose's other couples weave in and out, but they never stumble nor fall from grace. They might be a bit more schmoopy and couple-oriented...but the way they still remain enmeshed within DeeDee and Zach's story had me wanting to go back and re-read their own books [in the right order]. Monroe, especially...which is weird to me because her book was less impressive than #2/#3. But witnessing how she cared for and had compassion for BOTH of her employees, who are also her friends/bar-family...just re-sparked my heart a little.
I will try to stop gushing...but I have to take some time to speak about DeeDee...there is always a vibe with her that is unmatched. Spending time in her head, her POV was probably one of the most inspiring, thought-provoking, and astounding reader-to-MC experiences I have ever had.
Physically and outwardly, DeeDee and I will never match. But inwardly and the healthy emotional and mental explorations she was willing to do...as she had to let go of Zach in order to be a Better Self? I find this one of the most loving and compassionate heroines I have read in decades.
On the surface, DeeDee seems, of course, not like other girls. But deeper on the inside is someone I found myself seeing in my own personal journeys to find who I really am. I still feel like I learn and relearn every damn day.
Not being a better ME, but simply being the best human being I can be...so that I can have healthier relationships in the world.
Again, let me not allow Zach to be squandered here because between his personal struggles with getting his work-at-home e-commerce business afloat...and coping with having DeeDee to then not having DeeDee...and the sage advice given to him when times got tough for him. Zach was a wild wonder I was not expecting to enjoy nor relate to, as well.
This is an unforgettable walk down an overly populated trope that breaks barriers and rises above routine and quaint standards...tears through molds because choices made by Rose to have this story develop and plateau and then take off again...it's a Master Class in How to Write an engaging, thoughtful ADULT [mature[ story.
Let's not even recall there is romance because this can cloud people's ideals, and have them running away in fear.
Most people imagine the Romance genre is nothing but 50 Shades copycats and endless Mommy Porn erotica. Then there are books
exactly
like this one [and also Book #2] where Rose knows exactly what to serve readers to give a satisfying, proper fulfillment. You almost don't want more because the sheer perfection is enough the first time.
After having to read enough CR copycats--so many DNFs to DUDs...it's refreshing to find authors that love and respect their craft, then offer something of this caliber where it makes you wonder why other writers cannot attempt these types of projects as well.
Again, from the bottom of my old Romance reader heart and grasping my own writer heart, too, in tandem... bless you and THANK YOU for writing this book during such a difficult time as 2020 was for us all.
You, literally, have a fan/reader for life.
I have Book #4, waiting in the wings, and cannot wait to pick it up and devour its own perfections, as well. Paige was such a wonderful character inside this book and to know we will be getting her own story...and just... it'll be kind of secret wish-fulfillment read for me as I once had dreams of being a club DJ...a long, long, long time ago.
Also...let me also state, rather stupidly... this whole series is making me think of my Mom... and all of her siblings, but most importantly it reminds me of my maternal family roots deep within French-Candian bloodlines...my family name is
Blanchette
. I have such strong suspicions if I did a 23 and Me thing or did my own research on Ancestory.com I would find my familial roots settle in Quebec, but also Montreal. I have so many Great Aunt and Uncles who sound like Celine Dion to my ears...and though I am so out-of-touch with that side of my family, it warms my heart that in small ways I can see a "window" into something akin to an Alternate Life--like a WHAT IF...? So, these books, individually, but also as a set... give me a Life i never knew I wanted to know about and wish to be a part of...so, yeah, thank you for this, too...

Coming in quick to say...why did I wait so freakin' long before jumping back into this wonderful book series from this awe-inspiring Author?
I have been numbed and quite contrite in the last few months of whatever CR I picked up was simply a mirror to the one I read yesterday...and the one I read two days ago...and then the one I will, most likely, pick up in a week. This kind of endless trainwreck of...lost in the sameness of even popular books and their popularized Authors [ones who make it on random BEST ROMANCES of 2021, or whatever pub year]...I became a bit desensitized to the fact I could finally find writers who cared. Or even gave a shit.
Wait... writers who wrote real stories about incomparable characters I want to actually know in real life. Eh, I’ve been away from this book for almost 2hrs and I desperately want to go back.
DeeDee and Zach...uhm, I cannot wait to say a few things about them, inside this book... their story and romance. But I really wanted to say a deep, heartfelt "
Thanks!
" to Katia Rose for having the cajones to break the molds with this lovely, unforgettable series.
