K J Carr has always been a voracious reader, often bringing home a stack of all genres of books each week from the library as a child. She read romance, science fiction, fantasy, historical romance, self-help -- basically if it was in the library, she would read it. Luckily she was allowed into the adult section when she was around ten since she was reading eight or more books per week.
When she was older, book stores became her happy place, able to spend hours looking for books to purchase (and to increase her debt).
These books caused her imagination to soar and she started writing her own stories. Unfortunately, life got in the way and writing was put to the side for a while, albeit never forgotten.
After reading about heroines whom she just wanted to slap, she decided she would write about the characters she wanted to hang out with. Those who try to conquer their worlds with wit and snarkiness.
I didn't expect to like this book based on the main character from the first book, but found the changes in Tessa altered that view point. The trek to Mercer's home was filled with threat, adrenaline inducing emotions, and wonder on both Tessa and Mercer's part. I like the transition that occurs setting the stage for the next thrill packed adventure in the Rare Wolves series.
I was unsure about getting this book because it was Tessa's story....but I ended up really loving it. Mercer is a really great character..and Tessa is someone that can change.. I do feel that the book was unfinished because it ends at a beginning.. I hope to see Tessa and Mercer again but will be disappointed they won't be the main character s
Eavesdropping on the pack after her betrayal in Hybrid, Tessa self-justifies her behavior with many excuses and leaves the area before hearing her punishment. She arrives at the family homestead in time to hear Edward Black’s partner, Koran, attempting to cajole her parents into revealing her whereabouts and learning the family secret.
Losing against Tessa’s parents, Koran goes to regroup believing he’ll be successful in another attempt. Mercer arrives and tells Tessa she’s sentenced to be with him for a year then be reviewed for possible re-sentencing. Hearing some of Tessa’s actions, her disappointed parents, exit stage right before Koran returns. Reluctantly, Tessa goes with Mercer and learns about pack life.
While the book is technically fine (to my taste), this reader couldn’t be bothered to care about the many unlikable, evil, cut-throat characters. Hero not required but a non-despicable character is, other than the parents and maybe Mercer there weren’t any. Couple that with too many touchbacks and similarities to the previous read, I couldn’t get past the evil twin. Rating: 3stars
Awesome story from beginning to end. Tessa had been raised without a pack and just with her sister and parents. Her sister did not realize how hard she made it for Tessa while she was with them. Tessa goes back to her parents home not knowing she had someone following her. When she gets there, an even bigger problem comes forward. Koran, Edward's enforcer, found her parents just as she gets there. Her father gets shot and her mom turns into a Berserker, and chases them off. Koran did not know about Berserker's and now it makes him more determined to capture her parents and Tessa. Tessa's parents knew about her follower and had him come in. Mercer had been in Edward's lab for a year when the packs attacked it and set him free. He asks to be in charge of Tessa for what she had done instead of them killing her for the betrayal of pack bonds. Papi, Mami, and Mercer know Koran will be back early the next day to try to capture them. Papi sets a trap for them before leaving to give the four of them time to get away. Koran does not give up even after every setback. The book is so compelling that you do not want to put it down.
I loved the first story and how different this type of shifter book was. I really was worried about this book, like so many others, since Tessa didn’t leave a good impression when I met her haha. I’m also so completely happy with how easy I accepted her in this book. I really enjoy the way things are described and how military and shifters are brought together. This series is pretty incredible and there’s no moment where I felt like I didn’t enjoy it. So glad I got to see T and M’s story and can’t wait to keep it all going in the next one.
Ps. I really loved seeing how the world saw the villain and how he actually was reacting. Still laughing at Tessa being all “he wasn’t surprised… he knew about it” while in his head K was all “OMG WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING ?!?!” I need series full of dual pov of same events to see how it really is in the head of both 😂
Book two is Tessa and the wolf they found in a cage.can't say I was looking forward to this one Tessa may have reasons why she was that way but she attack a six year old pup and wanted what others had making plays at her sisters mate and beta.I
I have a question he was held captive for a year but his house was still there and food in the fridge? Who was paying the electric bills I know he was over two hundred so money can build but how he can afford three places how he got money and what he did for a living weather it was so he will not get bored of needed money should of been said.
This series is interesting but characters in last book only gets cameos in this one looks like next book is James so at the moment this series is focussed on three packs and we move away from each pack depending on the next love story with little cameos.
In book one of this series Tessa did terrible things, betraying her pack. According to pack justice those hurt could have demanded her life. But Mercer, released from the lab of a madman bent on discovering the secrets of shifters (who Tessa worked for) pleads to take her away with him. With the mercenaries from the lab on their tail, seeking to get them both back, Tessa learns and grows a lot and comes to understand and lament her mistakes. Its a touching redemption story for Tessa and a HEA for Mercer too, who is an ancient wolf in search of his mate for far too long. Plus more details of the over reaching series story arc fall into place. Now off to book 3!
I was not sure I wanted to read about Tessa. The spoiled, entitled, traitor to her pack or not. I had never read about a beserker before so why not give it a go.. Sure enough, it was interesting. It took the entire story to reveal that Tessa was indeed a beserker. Mainly because it took that long for her to care for anyone but herself. Being raised by lone wolves because her mother was a beserker caused her to be unaware of pack laws or rules. Fortunately, Mercer being a alpha and a lone wolf helped her adapt. It is interesting to watch their dynamic unfold.
Wow...this series just keeps getting better. I start reading and I don't want to stop. This part lets us see how a woman can learn to face her fears and differences and to come out on top. Thinking you are part of a group or family only to find out that you weren't for a long time is hard. But finding your own special family makes it so much more real than you ever thought possible.
I really liked how Tessa was shown in a much more sympathetic light in this, showing how her background shaped her decisions in the first book. Of course there are so many more issues that are developing.
I really enjoyed this book. Difficult past brought two lonely souls together while trying to escape a maniac mercenary who wanted to experiment on them. The book covers family strains and overcoming insecurities caused by those stains. I good easy read I recommend. Note: This is book two in the Rare Wolves series.
I enjoyed the first book and bought the second. What I did not expect was the mean girl was the focus of this book. The author made her a person with reasons why and gave her growth and redemption. It is a good book
Really really like the authors writing. This series and the characters are engaging and you want to follow them as they change and grow. I want James story.
I love reading a good series. This one was great because even though it moved on to a different couple, the originals from the first book were still there.
There are some amazing stories in this series. I love the characters, the writing, the storyline and the mystery. I’m looking forward to book three and where our author will take us now.
