The Book of Air: The Art of Paying Attention

Rate this book
In The Book of Air, award-winning astrologer Steven Forrest continues his investigation of the four elements which began with The Book of Fire and The Book of Earth. In this third volume of the series, he focuses on what seems to be a very simple the fine art of truly paying attention. He writes, “Air is what connects our hearts and our minds to the world around us. Astrologically – but also in plain speech – it is the linking element, telegraphing an endless stream of information to us – and letting us send a few telegrams in return. Air makes a mockery of the delusion that we are separate from each other – or, for that matter, from anything else. Air connects. It is what allows us to pay attention, and perhaps to create some good reasons for other people to pay attention to us.”In these pages, Forrest offers a detailed exploration of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, along with their planetary rulers and their associated astrological the third, the seventh, and the eleventh. Together, these powerful words in astrology’s magical vocabulary are the key to nothing less than aligning your mind with reality as it actually is.

With The Book of Air my journey through this series comes to a close, because I started with book four :D So my review here is rather a review for the whole four-book series. Because Steven is very consistent throughout all of the books, I would write the same for every single one of them.

I loved these books and to learn from Steven's approach to evolutionary astrology, which I find very refreshing with his incorporation and involvement of more modern approaches and current discussion topics surrounding the evolution of astrology itself.

The whole elemental series is amazing and very indepth. I like the approach that each element has their own book. It gave a great understanding of how the element influences the associated planets, signs and houses and how they work under the elemental unfluence in return, which before I didn't understand that well from other books.

I'd recommend this series to beginners as well as more advanced learners. If you know the basics of the planets, houses etc. here is a very great point to get further into your studying. He also has chapters on aspects (starting in The Book of Fire)and configurations (in The Book of Air) if you don't know anything about these yet.

You can tell someone really loves a topic when they go through every means necessary to make it approachable to others. I've always believed, and experienced, that if something is really in your soul, there is always the need to share it. Steven Forrest's life work and passion is astrology, it is so obvious. His ability to teach the topic in a relatable, non academic, way is refreshing, and I learned so much from this text. I'm an Aquarius moon, and a neophyte student of astrology, and it's been tough for me to understand that part of my chart. I'm walking away really happy with what I've learned, and I look forward to reading every book in this series.

I’m only just getting into Astrology and I think most of this book was above my grasp. The first five chapters exploring Libra, Gemini and Aquarius clans were great. After that I was lost. I would want to rate this 3 stars but I recognise that’s just because I probably don’t have the fundamental concepts down. Will reread in future.

I’ve been wanting to read this for a while bc I’m mostly water and air but am anti-air (the mind/intellectualism as I currently construe it), so wanna get a better understanding of what it is so I can maybe develop a different relationship to it within myself. Bc I also imagine there are things I’m calling other things that are actually air which might help my rel with it. It’ll become more honest at the very least! I wonder if I will finish this before I FREAKING SEE HIM IN AUGUST 😻😻😻😻 I absolutely abhor long books so Godspeed to my dam self 🙏🏻

What to say about this book? It is a very complete exploration of all the factors in a birth chart that relate to the Air, that is, to all that is human in us. I enjoyed reading it and I recommend it to anyone with an interest in astrology, without a doubt.

Worth reading

Again, Steven writes with clarity, humor, and insight into the human psyche. His "Elemental series" are
a fine addition to the library of Astrology studys.

Forrest gives detailed analyses of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius; what it means to have every planet in them; what their corresponding Houses mean (3rd, 7th and 11th); what it means to have each planet in those Houses; and what their respective ruling planets mean in each Sign and House! (Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Uranus.) What more could you ask?

Unlike so many astrologers, in talking about, say, what it means to have an Aquarian Jupiter Sign (as I do; Libra Sun), he never once says what the nature of your Great Idea should be, at all, in any way. He just says believe in it, and get it out there into the public space!

Well, my idea is unfashionable in this aberrant age, and currently politically heretical; but I would go to jail to save my people from the decline unto death that the onslaught of wokeness means is otherwise coming to them. And Forrest has given me the belief in myself I need to push it through. I am forever indebted to this book! (‘May I grow in the estimation of future generations,’ the motto of my alma mater, the University of Melbourne.)

I can’t wait to read his other Element books, as I have different ones for Rising (Fire — Aries), Moon (Water — Pisces) and Midheaven (Earth — Capricorn). All that specifically can’t be covered in them; but it will will serve the purpose if I merely read about those signs (not to mention the planets ruling them that I have in other Signs and in those Elements’ corresponding Houses. And transitions through them all are also covered.)
