Just a small, do-it-your-self boatyard tucked among the trees in northeast Florida, but for a variety of fringe folk and boaters, it’s a caring community, a place where compassion is more important than class, and adventure is always welcome. Just like home but a wrinkle off. Here former lawman Tom McKnight, who has spent two years in the bottle since his wife and son were murdered, camps in the woods after a chance ride with a loving Mexican family. Tom rescues another homeless man from bullies trying to put the boatyard out of business, and the two become security guards for the place, thanks to the quirky boatyard manager and a resident philanthropist who want to help. Tom and his new friend soon gain the respect of their boatyard neighbors, and when Tom discovers his Mexican family has run afoul of a sadistic drug dealer, he learns what true community means—and that at last he has found a new home.
