It's funny how people can take a myopic view of a fantasy novel and apply it to real-life political ideas. The premise of this series and the previous one is based on love, kindness, and the protection of everyone and everything especially those that cannot protect themselves. A statement of "all lives matter" by a fictional character whose literal job is to protect human life is not a reference to real-life or a political statement of the author. Throughout the history of literature, evil has always taken a dark form, always. The Bible is full of references. The naming practices in these series have always been to name something in the most literal way. So, an evil dragon named Blacky is not a statement towards racial bias. She named a demon Border Control because the character had to pass it. It doesn't mean she has a bias toward all Border Control personnel. That doesn't make sense. I urge the readers to stop laying your frustrations in this incredibly difficult era we are currently living in real-life at the feet of a fiction writer who is struggling with the same real-life difficulties we all face. Have compassion. These are amazing books!
There is so much to love in this story I do not know exactly where to start but to start anywhere would be giving too much away. Let's just say you will be missing out on an outstanding opportunity to read an extraordinary story of you do not read this one. S. Beaufort at her best.
Great book, great series. Love each one and am impatient for the next. It’s a page turner from start to finish, I love this world and look forward to reading more.
In the last book, I noticed some racially biased language and it made me uncomfortable. In this book it’s peppered all throughout. So much so that I won’t read the rest. I have enjoyed your series. You had to know that there would be readers that would stop reading. The title seems to be ironic. Why are the bad dragons dark? The especially bad first born called Blacky? Evan the only black character is the butt of every joke.... You’ve lost a faithful reader
What can I say about this book? Wonderful story full of adventures. It seems like Sophia must attract trouble because it always finds her. Other dragon-riders go out to adjudicate disputes but not Sophia. She goes on adventures that could have disastrous consequences. When Liv joins her, you know it will be pure disaster before coming to a favorable conclusion. I love how Sarah uses names and characters she bases on her friends. If you know about this, you can pick them out. Also, she uses phrases relative to the world around her. Even though this is a magical, make believe world, the dragon-riders protect all races in that world, brownies, fairies, gnomes, demons, goblins, etc, thus she uses the phrase that some have objected too. It isn't used as a racial or political statement. As to the "black" dragons being the bad dragons- since time began, bad guys have been portrayed all in black and the good guys in white-or in Sophia's case, Pink. Chill out people and enjoy the books, they are Fiction and not a political statement.
So much is happening on so many levels! There is a new enemy to combat, interesting journeys to find obscure potion ingredients, and a lot of self-discovery. I was laughing ridiculously loudly and also had some tears. Some very poignant moments, and an amazing quote that touched my very soul.
There are some amazing references for those who are a part of the Facebook groups, who know the people being referenced in the characters. We also see some favourites drop by. All in all, another exciting chapter in Sophia’s journey.
Well in this one we have a new villain, the world is starting to go to pot and we are helping Ainsley by finding a cure. We go on the hunt for some obscure potion ingredients and then go back and forth to our favorite bakery to make the potion. Rudolph is his usual funny self and I love that he calls Sophia his God child now.
“The biggest mistake is in the idea of killing time or letting it slip by. Instead, it’s meant to be valued. Every second that ticks by is part of a precious hour that couldn’t exist without the accumulation of all that made it up.”
3.5 stars
This book tied up some loose ends but was mostly filler and getting ready for what's to come. The ending was super cute though.
On the Kurtherian Gambit for Fans and Authors group on Facebook, we get to discuss the books with our fellow readers and the authors. So one member had posted how great a new book in another of the LMBPN series was and I commented that was my next read but I could not put down Sophia's story! Another reader is on book six and we were discussing how after reading each book, it becomes our favorite, until we read the next one! This holds true for Harmonize Hostilities. I mean, how can you not love a book that has Sophia going on missions with a crazy King and assassin (which is crazier? I don't know), her sister, her hot beau, the dragonriders and of course her amazing dragon? I already told Miss Noffke on the group (see, you are missing out on chatting with the authors) that I wouldn't harass her for the next book as she has assured me it will be out on schedule. After reading where it is going, that is going to be a hard to do! In the meantime I am going to look into her other works because I just love her amazing writing style!
The story just gets better and better. Ainsley has her memories and is finally back to herself. Will Hiker ever admit he has feelings? LOST. Can’t wait for the next one and the fairy godmother series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The eggs are hatching and part are good dragons and part are evil. The evil ones that have hatched have escaped into the world and the dragons are looking for them. What else can go wrong well well enter Father Time. Read to see what happens!
it’s the same old same old, rinse and repeat come against a challenge, beat it, go to the next challenge no progression of character development.
First of all I’ve enjoyed this book but not as much as I thought I would. Yes it was fast paced with plenty of humor, a lot of Snark, action and fun. How could you beat The dynamic duo of Sophia and her sister Liv? But the problem with the series I am having is the same as with the earlier series, three or four spells and the magicians magic is depleted, give me a break. The other problem I see is that Sophia has not progressed with her abilities, nor increased magic, or magic stores. This is why I say it is the same old same old find the bad guy, beat the bad guy, move onto the next challenge, rinse and repeat. I know the series ends in 12 books but hopefully if they continue the series it should be a series with live and her sister Sophia. This series is getting stale because there’s no progression for the main protagonist in the book. Yes there’s some emotional progression but no magic progression. Therefore I am unfortunately giving it a three because of its lack of originality as far as character development.
I really enjoy these books but having a possibly evil dragon named Blackey and using the term 'carnie' is super yikes. I don't think Liv/Sophia or Paris would be down for this. I'm disheartened by a response Sarah had here on GR about this as there is no way this could have been written pre-racial issues in the US as that would be centuries ago. Plus Ainsley made a joke using the term 'hermphr*dite' at one point when the proper term is intersex and the joke in general was in bad taste.
I'm fairly certain KU authors can re-upload books and just change tiny things like this and I would love for this to happen. I would also be happy to consult to help keep this from repeating.
I love these books but the occasional racism as well as the fatphobia is really disheartening especially considering how important justice is to these characters.
There was so much going on, as usual, in this story. In fact, there were a whole series of stories within stories, that were utterly magical, slightly comical, crazily adorable, and as complicated as a litter of kittens in a yarn factory.
I loved how Sophia has got so used to having to work favours for favours, with ever increasing complexity, and how she relies totally on her relationships with everyone in her life, to get to the bottom of a task, or problem, until she succeeds in her goals of the moment.
I'm very intrigued to see how things are going with her in the next book, considering all the changes that have come about due to her actions, in this one, and I'm so glad that there are still a few books left in her journey, as dragon stories were some of my favourites growing up, and this wonderful series has brought me back that sense of wonder that I first felt reading them.
So, now that I've finished Harmonize, Hostilities, I'm going on to book eight: Rules of Justice, to see what's going to happen next in Sophia and Lunis' lives - I'll see you on the flip side, to let you know, too!
I listened to the audio version. While the narrator has a nice understandable voice, she got a lot of the infections wrong which gave the situation the wrong intention and felt off. For example: Subner was supposed to ‘chant’ something, instead ‘sneered’ it
Congressman Magician Neven Goosman has a vendetta against the Dragon Riders and will do anything to get rid of them. Somehow he’s found out that half the dragon eggs will hatch evil and is using that info to further his agenda. But the Beaufont sisters and the dragons save the day.
I love the search for the flower. Hilarious fun with Sophia and Lee.
Fave scenes: Lee climbing the mast, Lunis babysitting the dragonettes, the fight in the library and the chipmunk chase
Another amazing instalment in the Exceptional S. Beaufont series. Lots of exciting adventures, action, love and challenges occur in this story. From a new enemy, escaped dragons, human hostilities, and numerous problems to solve, Sophia and her friends have a lot to do. She gets to go on dangerous missions with a baker assassin, her sexy boyfriend Wilder, crazy King Rudolph, her sassy sister Liv, the amazing Lunis, and her fellow Dragon Riders. Some old and new problems are solved and there is lots of humour, camaraderie and self discovery along the way. I love the friendships, the wit, inclusiveness, and characters in this series and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
Another fun book and adventures for Sophia. There is a lot going on in the book which keeps it interesting....and a little teaser about what will happen in the next book. I love the inter-twining with the House of Fourteen, and despite Liv's books ending we still know what's going on with her. There is so much love and friendship in the book and the interactions of the characters is great. I loved how the Dragon Riders had a mission together - that's a special moment. Can't wait for the next book.
This is a spin off series from the "Unstoppable LIV Beaufont"..which is a great series. The story is about Sophia Beaufont (LIV's little sis) and about her being the 1st dragon rider in 100 years and 1st female rider EvER & all of her and her dragons challenges and adventures and love..ect. I love the characters and personalities in this series and its funny. I also really enjoy how author pulls in charachters from Sister LiV story. Mrs.C 💋
I am enjoying this series so much! I love the recurring theme of family in all of its various iterations in these books, and watching Sophie grow into her expanding role as a member of the Dragon Elite is wonderful. Thanks, Sarah (and Michael ) for another great one.
This tone is a bit more serious this time, but the overall sentiment is the same as our usual adventures turn more into a group outing this time but with the same result. Still throughly enjoying this arc however and in some cases how it reflects the world events.
As I read these books I find that many of the gifts of life are told in these stories . Great job of explaining human nature in story from. I am happy to read this book, and all of the next books. Thank You for writing these stories. Again Thank You. Now on to the next book.
A LOST reference on a strange island. I love the pop culture sprinkled throughout these books. Sometimes it makes me smile, gasp or even giggle. But Sarah Nolfke and Michael Anderle integrate it so well into the story that if you aren't careful you'll miss it. Once again a great book. As you are wrapped up in the story see how many fun facts you can find.
I love this series and love the way the author's work so well together. Every book is a great adventure, you never know what the next paragraph or the next page will take you as the dragonriders and their dragons save the world! Happy reading.
One of my favorite series and one of my favorite authors! I always enjoy your books Sarah, your sense of humor and the humor you give to your characters is truly fun to read. I can't wait for the next one!
I have really been enjoying these books. More importantly, I read novels to my children every night, aged 4 and 6, and feel these and the House of Fourteen books are fun and clean enough to share with my children.
This book has it all! Great adventure ✔, hilarious scenes ✔, Zany characters ✔, But most of all it's about family, friendship, and love for all and the world to a better place!
Being submerged into the Beaufont world is intoxicating. There are nuggets of wisdom sprinkled throughout each book in the series about life, humanity and hope. I enjoyed the series, I’m a fan.
A good read. Light, humerus and fun. Go there, you won't be sorry! Who doesn't love dragons? And mother nature? And father time? And Jack in the beanstalk? And Lost?
