…are hidden on two different planets, both at war.
The Bad Company is the only force capable of unlocking destiny.
Terry and Char take the Bad Company beyond the frontier, back to Benitus Seven. What they find shocks them to the very core of their beings.
Marcie and Kae develop a new force, a land army to win the peace and keep it. They are sent to Kor’nar, a planet populated by insect people. Their challenges start buzzing the second they land with a force ten thousand strong.
When two worlds clash, there can only be one winner.
Terry. Char. The last chapter. Read it now.
This is the final book with Terry and Char as main characters. It’s two books in one and twice as long as the average Bad Company. Enjoy their swansong. If you haven’t followed Terry and Char’s adventures, don’t start here. You can follow them into space with The Bad Company or you can go all the way back to when they first met in Nomad Found, Book 1 of the Terry Henry Walton Chronicles.
Go forth and conquer, just like Terry and Char.

I see my other lives, a career in the Marines, those damn hand-written tests in law school, a business consultant, as if they're stories from a book. I see my books as if I lived there, as if I were friends with the characters. All things we remember are behind us, only those we imagine lie before.
I'm not sure which place I prefer, but I don't have to choose. They live together in my mind. My books have some award nominations, they have bestseller tags across multiple countries. I write about justice, honor, and loyalty because that's what I care about. My stories are mostly set within worlds that haven't been, but could be. We have to be ready for when those times come.
No matter where I went, I always had a book with me. Thanks to 21st Century technology, I now have hundreds of books loaded on my phone and always with me. This breakthrough allows me to binge read my favorites. How many books would I have read on deployments had I not had to have a physical book with me? I paced myself so I wouldn't finish too quickly.
We aren't encumbered like that now. I love the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. I have been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, I aspire to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared me to.
Through a bizarre series of events, I ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. I never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. My wife and I get to watch the northern lights from our driveway. Our dog has lots of room to run. And temperatures reach fifty below zero. We have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It's all part of the give and take of life. If we didn't have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.
Sorry to see this series end. I know characters show up in other series in this universe but I really want to see more of Jake and Crantis and their rag tag army. Introducing such a fun new characters and species at then of the series just makes the end harder.
Will miss Th and Char. Char’s pack in particular kept you smiling all the way through. They all really make these stories come alive. Hope to revisit with them in other series.
I'm so sad to see it finished, but agree with Craig, that it's better to end on a high note, than to disrespect these fine characters, by dragging out their ending, to the point where the reader turns against the whole thing.
That's happened a few times over the years, where an author writes books purely for the money, and it has ruined a series for me - but I'm so thankful to authors like Craig, and Michael who, I'm sure, if we could see through them, would have 'honour' written all the way through them - rather like a stick of rock, but human, not a sweet! Lol
I have to admit that my eyes were stinging as I reached the final chapter of this book. Terry Henry Walton, Char, and their extended family, whether of blood, or by the osmosis of being accepted into the fold, have given me so very many hours of totally oblivious enjoyment over these last 7-8 months, and watching their children grow, and develop into the fine people they are, felt like watching my own do the same.
This was a great story to finish with, and had all of the excitement, adventure - and the huge laughs that have become a kind of trademark to me, and that I always expect, when reading about any branch of the Bad Company - and I look forwards to a few years in the future, when I can read them, and enjoy them all, again.
I first came across Craig, just after my daughter bought me a Kindle for Christmas, as she knew I'd run out of spaces to put my huge book collection in my home - plus she's determined to drag me, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century!
Finding Craig, then being led by his works, to the Kurtherian Universe, has been a huge blessing to me - maybe not my bank balance but, then, I never, ever, begrudge paying a fine workman to use his tools, especially when it results in these amazing series!
So, here I am, finished with the Bad Company, all bar some appearances in other series - thank you for that, Craig - and so, as is usual for me, I check my reading list, to see which book to read next.
To my utter pleasure, the next book is going back to the Judge, Jury, and Execution series, which is book 10: Adverse Possession!
I'm really happy to be reading more about Rivka, and her equally loveable crew, so I'll bid you goodbye, and get onto it, now!
The system didn’t allow me to use the review that I left for the omnibus collection of the entire series. So you can see more there.
But I will also note that this book was well written as it completes the series and ties together several important elements. The author correctly explains his reasoning for not stretching out the series because he wants to avoid writing just to go through the motions & allowing the quality to suffer. I am forced to accept that he’s correct.
However I will miss reading the adventure that Terry Henry, Char and the others as they export justice to a universe that sorely needs the help! I’m sure that the cameos of the different characters will be fun to read but it has been a great deal of satisfaction to not only read stories that have characters that become more like real people as they grow with the two series but also consistently exemplify the kind of values that an old soldier wishes were more universal. I definitely recommend all of the Kutherian Gambit books as I plan on reading the next series about a badass lawyer (who’d have thought that before?)!
A good send off for a great couple in TKU! While handing the reins to the next generation, TH and Char go on one last adventure. Going against, what I view, their worst enemy, they turn the tip of the sword over to the next generation while standing beside them and supporting them; which means diving in and kicking butt as they always have. When I first heard this was the last Bad Company book, in the TKU Facebook group, I had some pretty angry thoughts toward Mr. Martelle but he does a wonderful job of closing out storylines. I read the book in one sitting, which means I was up until 3 am because I couldn't stop. I have no doubt we will see all our favorite characters from Bad Company popping into other stories and there may be spin offs from other characters. He did right by TH and Char and those we have come to love. A very satisfying ending! Thank you Mr. Martelle.
Wow! What an amazing run for Terry Henry & Charumati Walton! I will look for them in other places & be happy for them too.
I feel like they are family. I look forward to hearing about them & I get excited to read about their Walton Clan. Any of them. They are fine people: neighbors to the Universe, living by example. TH & Char have Integrity & they teach anyone willing to learn how to live with integrity g kindness to others.
Marcie & Kae should have their own series; meeting & making Federation members comply with the Agreements they have signed. I loved the Belzonians characters! What a bunch of fun folks!
I will miss Terry Henry & Charumati: may they fare well in their future endeavors. And may many Blessings come to the Author, who has had RL challenges while writing this story. I look forward to his other works!
Another awesome Bad Company Novel! Great plot, great action & all the great Bad Company characters!
The Bad Company is sent to a planet of insectoids to convince two warring factions to embrace piece, no matter what. Unfortunately, they are then handicapped by their superiors by not being allowed to reveal too much advanced technology to the insectoids.
And then, just when it doesn't seem like it can't get any more difficult, both factions viciously attack the human peace keepers, with huge armies and weapons that they aren't supposed to have!
Get this book and the entire rest of this story and read them now! You WILL be VERY glad that you did!
I have loved TH and Char since the first book in the Nomads series. Every book following that first one, and now this one. All of our favorite people, the wonderful mascots and ships are all here for the story leading to retirement. Of course it won't be easy to get there, and the hardest battle the Bad Company has ever had to fight , not to mention Ted's greatest achievement. Anyone who reads 5the Kurtherian universe will enjoy this, and if you don't know about them, grab the first book, I'll be waiting here to hear how much a new reader loved it as much as I do.
I like Mr. Martelle’s writing. He's funny and the characters, while some are out the there, are likeable and relatable. I also enjoy that his books contain strong female characters, but don't take away the masculinity of the male characters.
This was a good send off for Terry and Char. It tied it all up, while leaving open possible storylines for other previously minor characters.
(Also, while Cory didn't get the ending I had hoped for, I'm hoping to see more of her in future books - her a story has potential.)
As sad as I am that this was all she (or he, in this case) wrote for TH and Char, whaWAS written was wonderful. I’ve enjoyed every step of Terry Henry’s journey. I say that as someone who, initially, put off reading the Terry Henry Walton Chronicles because I “just wasn’t that interested” in a minor character that never made me want to know more about his story. I’m glad I “bit the bullet” and started in. Easily one of my favorite storylines (as are, quite frankly, all of Craig’s books). I look forward to Bad Company’s cameos in future books!
Having embarked on the Kutherian Universe just 8 weeks ago, I have consumed 52 books in that time. I have to say that although I enjoyed Bethany Anne and company, I will probably re read the Terry Walton Chronicles again. This is the greatest compliment I can pay an author. With the exception of a single story in this series that triggered my PTSD, I enjoyed every word. Thank you for a great romp through the post apocalypse, out into space and on to a new challenge. Robert Heinlein and his starship troopers would be so proud.
The authors have crafted an excellent swan song for TH and Char. They have come a long ways from Earth and the humble beginning of the FDG. They're going to take a second shot at retirement but leaving the direct action branch in capable hands. The story is fast moving, closing chapters on some hanging issues. I enjoyed very much, I'm anxious to see how the kids take up the torch.
I am here to tell all that I finishd at 12 :30 August10,2020. I feel like I just lost my best Friends. This was a fantasic seriss I kind of miss TH. ,I hope he will show up in other stories, This so far this year book numbered78.I I wil ead moe of your stories I am James J Gardner, age 72. God willingI I will readas many as I can. You are a great writr. So stay healthy, when you feel tired rest. You are in my Prayers.Stay Safe. Goodniht from Florida.
As a fan of a series, it's always sad to see the series come to a conclusion. In this case, the sadness is somewhat alleviated by the promise of possible cameos in other tales. I started with Death Becomes Her and have read most of the spin-off series which have grown out of that series. A number of fast paced, well written stories by a very talented team of authors. Kudos and a heartfelt thank you to all involved.
The action we typically associate with the Bad Company is almost non-stop, with new directives, an old enemy, a new mission, and (of course) some unexpected turns of events.
This is an excellent series, and I’m sad to see it come to a close. We will no doubt see our beloved characters in other books, however, and I look forward to it.
It is with a heavy heart that I bid a fond farewell to the Terry Henry Walton series. DAMN but it has been a great ride. Every time a new book was released I stopped whatever else I was reading until I had absorbed my new "fix". What a great series of storylines and characters. They were magnificent!! I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
It's sad to read the end of a series but it is well worth the wait. All the questions have been answered and new avenues to explore have opened up. I will miss the story but understand the need to move onto other things. I look forward to continuing this journey in your books and raise my glass in praise to your storytelling
I have read every book featuring Terry Henry Walton and Char. I hate that the series is ending, but I prefer that to lackluster stories. I am thankful that every book brought me joy. My favorite new character was Sgt. Major Crantis Monsoon. I hope that there will be more Trans-Pacific stories.
I am sorry to see this is the last Bad Company book. I have read this from the beginning to the last book. Thank you for your Time & imagination, with out either we would not have had this series. Thank you again, stay healthy and keep writing we'll keep reading.
Great finish to a fine series. Two complete tales intertwined as one. Really catches the difficulties of taking green recruits and transforming them into a cohesive fighting force - especially across cultural lines. Also lays bare the weight and pain of leadership in combat. Sorry to see TH and Char ride off into the sunset, but they've done that before. Who knows what the future holds?
This is an awesome series, so worth reading, and the author wrapped it up with a bow. I am sorry to see this series ending, but the storylines were all finished off and the characters will be making cameos in future books. Could not have asked for a better book. I am looking forward to more stories by Craig Martelle.
And of course, Michael Anderle is to for bringing him into the Kurtherian family! The Terry Henry Walton series is one of my favorites Probably from being a Marine Thanks to both of you for years of fun and more to come!! Howard S (the S stands for super fan)
Now is the time for partings. . .TH and Char have spent lifetimes in battle, fighting for the freedom of others and the right to live in peace. The FDG has become a faithful few, and their children and grandchildren are ready to become the leaders of the Federation. A great read.
This review is not only for this book but for the many hours spent reading of the adventures and trials of TH, Char and family. The book is a great ending for their adventures as the principal characters. This book and all the others have drawn me into their universe and have allowed me to be part of that universe. Thank you again.
After enjoying all the Terry Henry Walton Chronicles books having followed the timeline of books through the bad company it has been most enjoyable while I'm at the end of this story line it has been great to have the fill in in the kurrherian universe witters field of various stories of various people I will admit TH is one of my favourite ones.
I have read all your books as well as all the other books since the start of “Death Becomes Her” that I could afford. I’ve spent more money and gotten more enjoyment from these books than any other authors save for Clive Cussler. Keep up the fantastic writing and May fair winds always push your sails!
Craig Martelle has a fantastic style of writing that pulls you in and keeps you absorbed in the story he is telling. This book does all of that. By now I hope you have read all of the previous books and I promise you will enjoy this as well. If you haven't read The Terry Walton Chronicles, I highly recommend you do so. Off to my next adventure. Enjoy!
Another amazing books in the Bad Company series. I love the characters of TH & Char as well as the rest of the Bad Company family. I hope we will see some more of them in other series.
This series is one of the greatest. I have been telling all my friends about this series and we have been collecting your books. Your writing of this series is fab. Thank you so much.
Lots and lots of danger, adventure, new experiences, and old ones. Finding closure for old sounds and looking looking forward to a new future. Such outstanding writing, want it to continue.
