Miami’s favorite couple is back, but just like last time, they can’t seem to catch a break. What is it about Desmond and Shaniqua that’s so hard to get it right? Then there’s Harlem. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she is still holding onto hope that her and Desmond will one day be back together. Part two of the get me right again series is filled with so much drama, heartache, and loss. It would be perfect if this book ended on a good note, but with all the drama in the atmosphere, a body will fall this go around.
I’m reviewing all three books in this series together because I went straight from one to the next without stopping to write anything, and by the time I finished, everything blended together scene-wise. So this is my full experience reading the series as a whole.
Going in, I already knew this was a spin-off from the Little Miami Girl: Antonia & Jaheim series. Sheniqua is Jah’s sister, and Desmond works in Jah’s tattoo shop while running businesses of his own, so the connection is immediate and familiar. But early on, I realized something felt… off. There were subtle timeline and character changes that had me confused, like learning Jah and Sheniqua’s dad is now a pastor when we last knew him as a dealer who killed the man who SA’d his wife. Then Sheniqua casually refers to her mom as the pastor’s wife and I’m sitting there like, wait… what did I miss?
That’s when I went searching and found out there’s a missing bridge book: Christmas in Miami: Antonia & Jaheim. And apparently a LOT of major plot points happen there. Around book 2 or 3, it’s revealed that Antonia lost a baby because her cousin Porsha poisoned her, and I was completely thrown because the last time we saw them in Little Miami Girl, they were trying to mend their relationship. Again… something that happened in the Christmas special that I could not find anywhere to read.
So the reason this series gets 4 stars instead of 5 is purely because of that confusion. Too many times I found myself reading and thinking, “Wait… what?” and that takes you out of the story. Since Little Miami Girl is easily in my top 20 comfort rereads, I would’ve loved to experience everything in order from that series → the Christmas special → then this spin-off. Not being able to access that middle piece made certain emotional moments feel incomplete.
Now to the actual story.
I really did enjoy this series overall. Sheniqua is clearly spoiled by Jah and their father, and Desmond stepping in as a counterbalance made for an interesting dynamic. Sometimes I felt like he was a little too hard on her, but you could tell it came from love and wanting her to grow. He didn’t let her run over him, and I respected that.
I absolutely HATED Vick, and I’m glad things turned out the way they did there. Chase got exactly what she deserved too. I do feel like Harlem should have suffered a little more for her role in certain situations, but I won’t get into details to avoid spoilers. And I low-key wish Julius had gotten more page time because I was interested in him.
My heart really went out to Lottie. I kept hoping something positive would come out of everything she endured because she truly deserved that kind of redemption moment.
All in all, it was a strong, engaging continuation of this world and these characters I already loved. Even with the confusion from the missing bridge story, the plot kept me locked in and emotionally invested the entire way through.
It looks like there’s another offshoot that brings the characters together again: Hood Love on Christmas: Jah & Antonia, where the kids are older and PJ is entering his teenage years. And thankfully, that one is actually available — so that’s where I’m headed next.
This was a sad one Vick is definitely going to get what is coming for him once Desmond finds out what he did. Harlem is dumb and just miserable as heck. Chase needs to get a life and stop doing stupid stuff to cause attention to herself. Who does what she did to Shaniqua apartment? It's sad what happened to Lotta because she didn't deserve that to happen at all. I can not wait til part 3 I hope Vick gets everything he deserves, Harlem and even Chase as well.
They say be careful who you have kids with cause people can be so toxic Harlem definitely proved over and over she is toxic she don’t have no goals she got what she wanted a baby by a dope boy to say he my bd but all that she did Desmond still don’t choose her now that his grandma is dead people really going to see the real Desmond man once again Diamond never disappoints me can’t wait to read Part 3 cause I know she going to bring the heat
This series is gonna lit. I hate my babies is going through all of that. I cried a little when glamma got killed. But everybody that's against them is gonna get their karma. U did good on yet another book and I'm looking forward to reading more of them sitting here patting my feet while sipping on Pepsi and while waiting on the next book to read
Great series as always Diamond. Just one special request please, in your future books it would be nice for the leading Male character not be so controlling. Desmond's character similar to your other lead Male characters in your previous books is "my way or no way", and he talks to Shaniqua like she is a child.
Shaniqua and Desmond finally getting it together for everything to start coming at them at once. Loved catching up Tonia and Jah!! Chase ass is delusional and better get her meds with quickness.
Oh you are not going to believe what happens in part 2 of this sequel. It continues to get better with every chapter, and the author has a way of writing that grills all of your attention to this book.
Tragedy is everywhere with Desmond and Shaniqua. Vic is a dog ass animal because he’s definitely not a person. Can someone please bring Jah out so he can rain coax on the streets
I was so hoping they wouldn’t kill his gma mannn that’s all he had left I just noooo I wasn’t ready for that!! I love this story I can’t stand Harlem or Chase at all and well vick smh 🤦🏽♀️
Omg! This series is good, I can't put it down. The twists will have you on the edge of your seat. Some of these women are crazy about people that don't want them. Shaniqua & Desmond are so funny at times.
Try his book is soooo juicy…it is a love story and a revenge story… I cried when Desmond grandmother got killed… can’t wait to see the drama unfold in the next book.
These two are one of my favorite couples from the author’s catalog. I find myself always running back to reread, almost like I’m checking up on them. Lol.
Vick is a whole dam predator out here and why Harlem was soooooo dam crazy to have him in her house!!!...Dee is about to tear some ppl to shreds!!...His grandma though... I hope and pray they don't lose their baby!!!...
