"I don’t want your body, stupid girl. Everyone will have that. Pay attention, Addison. It’s your mind I want to fuck.”
Wow this was pretty dark. An all consuming crazy toxic story of kidnapping, torture, and betrayal. I absolutely fell for the broken characters here. 💔
"She thinks I’m a monster. I wonder if she knows, though, that that’s exactly what I’ve always wanted to be."
Max Bennet is a crime drug lord. He is not the hero in this story. He is the worst kind of villain. He kidnaps Addison because her father betrays him. He starts torturing her in the most brutal and painful way. Preparing to sell her to the highest bidder for human traffickers. Unbeknownst to him, she has had her fair share of past demons.
"Max can take my body, he can fuck with my head, but I won’t let him strip my soul. I won’t let him take that piece of me that believes somewhere in the world. There’s goodness."
I absolutely loved Addison, her strength and will to survive throughout the story. Unlike Max, her past never defined her. Both have been born to monsters, and both are so broken. Addison has survived a harsh upbringing and still sees goodness in everything and everyone around her. Yet Max has become his past to the point that there is no saving him. Throughout the book, he goes through so many emotions, being cold, cruel, numb, regretful, tortured, guilt driven, and ultimately, he realizes he cares for her kindness, but it's too late.
"she feels every part of me. As she takes the broken pieces of my soul and holds them in her hands. She doesn’t look away from me..in my own fucked up way, I care for her. Even if, in the end, it means absolutely nothing"
"Who do you belong to? ”Me,” he says quietly....goddamn, Addison, you’re fucking beautiful...You’re fucking perfect, he says, groaning the last word, “and you’re fucking mine.”
This ended on a cliffhanger. It contained many triggers that will make some readers uncomfortable. My first time reading for K.V. Rose, and I absolutely loved her writing style, I couldn't put it down.
