Gentleman's Bounty #1

Kidnapped by the Gentleman

Rate this book
Cedric has been kidnapped by pirates.

...they have no idea how much trouble they're in for.

Cedric was living his best life, partying in the colonies, bedding whomever he pleased and trusting that his parents’ money and affluence would get him out of any unfortunate scrapes.

Until he was kidnapped by the fearsome pirate Lucifer, who planned to trade him for a hefty ransom. Unfortunately, he’s not the only one after Cedric, and the strange secret society who have Cedric in their sights might just be more dangerous than Captain Lucifer.

Now Cedric is trapped on a pirate ship with a dashingly handsome captain, a quartermaster who won’t stop staring at him and an overwhelming desire to find some fun, all while saving his hide from an unknown organisation who will stop at nothing to track him down.

---

This is the first book in a new gay pirate harem series from Drake LaMarque. Set in the same world as the His Piratical Harem series, this book features a plucky new main character, a new pirate ship and a Lovecraftesque new threat.

NOT a standalone, it ends on an HFN, the end of the series will have a HEA for Cedric and his men.

I should've known better. Secret society = cult. I really don't like cults. The pirate part was interesting, same with Dante being a vampire. It was entertaining how the whole crew was wrapped around Cedric's finger. But yeah cult and more cult to come. One guy with a cursed tattoo to be sacrificed, a captain, a vampire quartermaster and a tutor. Won't be continuing this one, not for me.

Historical is not my favorite thing, so this bingo category would always been one of the harder ones for me. I enjoyed the paranormal aspect of it with shifters and vampires and all, but the characters all felt quite shallow.

Drake LaMarque has a wonderful way of creating characters who don't fit into the norms of Victorian society and yet still manage to find the freedom to finally be themselves.
Cedric is a young man who feels bored with his life and so constantly finds himself getting into trouble. Hoping to control their wayward son, Cedric's parents send him and his tutor to the port of Kingston, but Cedric still continues his constant dalliances and parties. He hides his lonliness and the longings of his heart under the title of a "promiscuous mischief-maker".
When Cedric gets kidnapped by pirates, he realizes that maybe he has finally found his place in life on the Devil's Whore with Captain Lucifer and his enigmatic quartermaster, Dante. It's too bad that they only seem to be interested in ransoming him off for money.
In a world where magic exists, mythical creatures are real, and a mysterious tattoo could possibly endanger the lives of Cedric and the entire crew of the Devil's Whore; will Cedric be able to find the affection he longs for and get his happily ever after? Find out in this 5 star read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. (I received a free advanced copy of this book)

One thing this author always has going for them is a good decent plot. Unfortunately its usually a little rough around the edges and need more smoothing out. Which in the end makes things seem rather flat and awkward, also rather skimable imo.

There was all this talk to charisma and Seduction but I didn’t really see or feel any of that. And the point I. This book were 2 because 3 was so clinical it was unreal...

Anyways, maybe I read book 2... maybe not.

Cedric is the son of a wealthy English business man, he has taken advantage of his wealth and hasn’t settled down so his father sends him off to Jamaica with a tutor to see if distance will help tame him. It doesn’t. After one of his many debaucherous nights out, he waked up locked in a room with other unconscious people. He makes his escape and finds out that his father has recalled him back to London, disappointed that his lifestyle hasn’t changed at all.

On his way to say farewell to the city he has been living in, he manages to get kidnapped by pirates! Some very good looking pirates.

Will Cedric make it back to London? Will the pirates get sick of him and throw him overboard? Will the mysterious tattoo he doesn’t seem to know he has come back to haunt him?

Cedric’s journey had me smiling and laughing out loud most of the way through. His promiscuousness had me giggling like I was back in high school and his single-mindedness reminded me of younger me with hormone surges! He knew what he wanted and he went for it.

The supernatural aspect of this story was quite fun too. Witches, Vampires, Shapeshifting Otters, I wonder what else Drake has in store for this series?

Although Cedric is care free and is making the most of his life being kidnapped, it all comes crashing down around his ears when he realises a cult is after him. The journey he goes on as he deals with what is thrown at him adds depth to this story and changes it from a tale all about one mans sexual escapades to something more substantial and makes you feel for Cedric and the people he has grown close to. I love dynamic Cedric has between Captain Lucifer and the Quartermaster Dante, and how they both care for him but show it in different ways.

Yes this is a spicy book, but hey, can you expect any less of me?

I settled in for what I thought was a good ol' swashbuckling, Pirate Captain with his young handsome prisoner, guess I didn't properly read the blurb. This started off that way but quickly added mystery, magic, and mayhem due to a weird cult with terrifying abilities, not usually my thing but I really enjoyed this whole tale. One quick observation, Cedric is a total sex addict! He never stops! He's freaking insatiable! This is sexy, funny, mystic, and exciting, but what a wonderful way to end it with 'un menage trois', but, on top of that, there is a promise of something even better, how delicious!

Eh. DNF

DNF at 37%. I really wanted to like this cause who doesn't love pirates but found the Cedric to be absolutely unbearable. Literally the only thing he cares about is sex and himself. Being a sex starved nympho is one thing, it can be forgiven if there is more to a character, but there isn't more. Just selfishness and wanting to bang everything all the time.

I kinda wanted to know more about a pirate ship of various paranormal and some crazy death cult but not enough to put up with even a siingle second of HIM. Ugh.

2 stars because it really could be interesting and it's a cool idea. -16 Stars because the MC is annoying.

Another Thrilling Pirate Adventure

I loved the author's His Piratical Harem series, so this was an insta-click for me.

The main character, Cedric, is sassy and just so much fun. I love the soft heart hidden under the sass. His pirate lovers are sexy, and it's cute how they both try to resist Cedric at first only to fall head over heels in the end. The addition of a surprise shipmate at the end makes for interesting possibilities in the future.

Interesting, needed a (more thorough) editor

The plot ended up being much more interesting than I expected, and the characters more entertaining as the book went on. Consent is clear throughout.
The writing has some issues—comma splices and run-ons infused throughout, names swapped a couple times, typos (eg “though” instead of “thought”)—a thorough editor can fix these without too much work though.

I don’t remember how or why this ended up in my reading list. I had started his previous series and enjoyed it at the beginning but quickly found its charms wearing thin. This one I found to be devoid of charms. Partially it’s that the main character starts at 11, literally just begging strangers to fuck him. I don’t know where you go from there. Why even pretend to have a plot or a historical setting. What are we even doing?

Oddly, I've enjoyed this book while remaining totally unimpressed by the main character, which is frankly immature and TDTL (also, never quite felt the "charisma" everyone was talking about) . ...But the plot was interesting and consistent and the other characters quite likeable. Plus, hot sex scenes. Not a masterpiece for the ages but definitely a fun ride.

Awesome

Really enjoying this story so far. I find Cedric really amusing , might just be my warped English humour, the two pirates are delightful and I cannot wait to see Oliver's contribution to the relationships.
I don't like writing reviews but I thought the low review was very unfair and thats why I've left one.

Unique

This book definitely has a unique flair. I really enjoyed reading about the men and the various things. The cult is an interesting side piece -along with the tattoo, magic, and other stuff. Lowkey loved how the mc embraced who is he and what he wants. It’s a good book.

by the stars this was good

Honestly, I expected hot garbage. Instead I got sucked into a conspiracy plot with multiple points of view and handsome pirates. I was pleasantly surprised with this book and recommend it to anyone who is a fan of this style book.

A Fun Read

Drake heads out the starting hate with a bang, pirates, cults, vampires and kink galore. I can't wait to see where this book leads.

I liked this book a bit better than the Cabin Boy series by LaMarque because Cedric is just such a fun MC. And the adventures and the sexy pirates are still going strong.

It was fine until the 33% mark , then it just got ugly, stupid, violent, or a combination of the three.
