At the edge of sanity lies an extraordinary truth. Discovering it may be the last thing she ever does… Hannah thinks she’s losing her mind. After hitting and killing a man with her car, his body and blood vanish without a trace. Desperate to prove she isn’t insane, she searches exhaustively until she finds him—alive and unharmed.
Taken under the wing of the handsome stranger, she’s stunned to learn he’s part of an ancient race of immortals. But so is his deranged sister, and she murders every person who learns his secret. And though Hannah is as tough and resourceful as they come, how can she hope to stop a psychopath who cannot die?
Will Hannah survive the revelation, or will a crazed eternal claim the silence she seeks?
Echoes is the first book in the deliciously dark Echoes supernatural thriller trilogy. If you like determined heroes, fast-paced action, and breathtaking twists and turns, then you’ll love A.M. Caplan’s pulse-pounding adventure.
In my high school English class I was caught with a book behind the book I was supposed to be reading. Detention gave me a chance to finish them both in peace. Eventually I read so many books that they started to come back out.
By way of most of the coasts, I reside in the major metropolis of Sayre, PA with my husband and our cat that sees dead people.
This book seemed long and uneventful but somehow you wanted to read to the end. You wanted to know how the story ended except that seemed rather uneventful too. The storyline is interesting but the book not so much. It seems highly unrealistic that Hannah could keep getting into near death experiences and heal on her own. She was inside of a building that got blown up, where was the concussion? How did her ankle heal without medical intervention? How was a gunshot wound healing with stitches? How did Amara always find them? This was next level stalking, and a bit too perfect to be believed. The question still remains why Asher kept being reborn by Hannah. This was never explained. What is their connection? How did Amara know Hannah's blood would turn Gabriel human? It just doesn't make sense.
Overall, I really liked this book. It's filled with mystery and otherworldly possibilities. The characters were fantastic--well-rounded and believable. It was slow going in several places though. I don't think I will read the whole trilogy for that reason. But if you love a deep story that's a little fantastic with a bit of high-strangeness then you'll eat this right up. The writing was superb and pulled my right in from the start.
Very interesting, Too bad it's a trilogy. A lady hits a naked man and stops to help. He is bleeding out, so she calls for help. By the time they arrive, he is gone, as is all of the blood. They search for hours but don't find any traces of him. For weeks, she keeps searching on her own and bothering the sheriff. Little does she know the missing man is watching her search for him.
One night in bed, she hears noises and pulls out her shotgun fearing all sorts of unmentionable things. Her door creaks open and she shoots and wounds someone. She discovers it is .......
That's all I'm saying. This book has many surprises. It might seem a little slow in places, but I think youll enjoy it.
The world was filled with beautiful monsters that would live forever, without a care for how many human lives they snuffed out.
Months after the passing of her only family, Uncle Joel, and Hannah Cirric is still realing with guilt and a sense of loss. Barely functioning since he passed away, she was set to spread his ashes stop his favorite hiking post when she decided last minute to hold onto him just a little bit longer. Driving home and distracted, she barely registered the naked man who bolted in front of her car, and didn't let reality sink in until she saw him clearly dying before her. Trying to save him, she reached out to 911 and performed CPR on the man who's face and chest was caved in from the impact. Covered in his blood, it would be a second while her eyes were distracted than he and the blood would vanish without a trace. Left a fool infromt to the local sheriff and the volunteers, she was desperate for somebody to believe he was real and not a hallucination from her troubled mind. Forced to accept she couldve imagined him, she attended a few required vistis to a therapist before she finally began putting it all behind her. Unfortunately, she would start seeing him sporadically around and it would leave her being hit by a car before she finally swallowed enough of the pills to erase him. Standing over the bridge, his voice would spook her enough for her to stumble and he would die again pulling her from the icy waters. When the two would meet again, he would speak and reveal himself as Asher, a man who's lives countless lifetimes over the 900 year period since his original birth. Twins born in an age where life ended in their early twenties, his sister Amara was determined to leave the poverty behind and would succeed for only four years before discovering she couldn't bare children. Turning to her brother Asher ‘s wife and midwife to many, she would supply her a tonic that would in turn poison the husband and leave Amara tried for his death. Hung and executed, Asher sacrificed his sister for his wife and for that she would hold a hateful grudge through the centuries. Every woman he would ever love or like would be slain, and he would be reborn alone and fearing his sister's wrath again and again.
Who was he? What kind of man was he, or more likely, what kind of man had he been? Did he have a family who was looking for him, or was he a bad person running from something? Was that why all the searching had turned up nothing? Was there something more beyond the random man who had the misfortune of meeting the front end of her car?
When Hannah discovered she is now a target of Amara, it's originally believed it's because of Asher’s presence but it'll soon reveal that's not the case. Wanted by the father she had never met, it would turn out her blood has the ability to kill those immortal with a single injection. Watching Asher die again and again to protect her, she would survive the unthinkable multiple times including an explosion at the bar they were taking shelter at. With each rebirth, Asher would spawn close to where Hannah was and each time she would narrowly avoid the arrows and gunshots fired from Amara. When she was finally captured, she would see her father one last time before Amara would shoot him and jump to safety with a vow to return for Hannah. Going separate ways, she would see a face from the past and her entire world would shift upside down. Seeing her Uncle Joel again after nearly a year dead, she would see he's never been who he always said he was. For he is one that cannot die and is as immortal as Asher is.
And it won’t stop, will it? I’ll close my eyes, and he’ll be there. I’ll open them, and he might be gone for a little while—just long enough for me to scrape myself back together and drag myself out the door—and then, he’ll be there too.
I got this because I thought it was a thriller. Turns out it is a paranormal, fantasy mystery! Not quite the same thing. It did keep me turning the pages but I can't really decide if it was good, bad or just OK. I guess it was ok. I could see where it was going with the main character from about halfway and that isn't good. I prefer to keep guessing until much nearer the end.

This book was not what I was expecting at all. I go into most books blind. Not sure why but I like to be surprised.
On the cover of the book it says “Their story began… the night she killed him” I was expecting this book to have more romance based off of that. I knew it would be more of a thriller style book but I was shocked to not have romance.
This book was totally unexpected. I had no idea what was going to happen next. It was fascinating and I’m so glad I was able to read it during my traveling book club. Had it not been someone else’s pick I probably never would have seen or come across this book.
Echoes is about people who die that come back every time. Essentially immortals that have lived up to hundreds of lives. Most think of themselves as gods where others still live pretty mundane.
I don’t want to give away too much but I definitely thought this was going the vampire route when it started. 😂
While I agree with some reviews saying this book is slow going getting to the point, the story is well rounded and worth reading. It’s written well without pretentious filler words and unnecessary detail. I love the concept, and liked the book well enough to purchase the rest of the trilogy. It’s a little confusing at first, but you’re reading from the perspective of the main character who is also confused about what is going on. I like making discoveries with the character rather than having additional knowledge as the reader. I’m almost finished with the second book, and if you continue reading the trilogy, a lot of the questions you’re left with in the first book will be answered in the second.
I started this book at 3am one night when I couldn't sleep. The lost sleep was worth it! Echoes sucked me in so quick that I thought about calling out from work to finish it. Instead, I forced myself NOT to read more than a chapter or two per day so I could make it last.
The original storyline as well as the intense descriptions of scenes and actions had me rereading sections just to experience the feelings again.
I haven't been able to correctly guess any of A.M.'s twists and turns yet! I originally thought they were vampires 😂 I'm also shipping this super slow burn romance like a fangirl (yes? Am I right? I hope!)
While I did indeed thoroughly enjoy this book, the editor in me struggled with quite a few grammatical errors, confusing narrative sequences, and style issues. All that aside, it has been quite a long time since I have read a horror novel that kept me this captivated, and for that I gave five stars. The premise was unique. I found the characters to be engaging, believable, and easily invested in. There was a fantastic balance between suspense, resolution, and cliff hangers to carry you through to the next novel. I've already gone ahead and purchased the rest of the novels in the series.
Hats of to the author. You're definitely one to follow.
I had no idea what this story was about. Usually I research, read the blurbs, laugh and applaud the reviews. But slap me hard and give me a soda because this is one of the best stories I've read in a long time!
My World has just become better because of Ms. A M. Caplan!
I wasn't entirely enthralled with the beginning when Hannah was having her mental break... but it soon became obvious that the groundwork was laid and wow!!
I'm also in love with Asher!! I've got to go... I have the next book to read!!!
Well, I was glad when this book ended. Seriously, it was a struggle to finish.
The story line had potential, but it took forever to get going. Hannah just lost her way for way too long in this story. It dragged on and on. There was a lot of unnecessary filler. I was so glad when it was over and there was not even a little part of me that wanted to move on to the next book.
I cannot recommend this book at all.
The narration was good. Eleanor Caudill did a great job on all the voices including the male voices. But the narration just couldn't help the story.
My daughter listened to this book about a year ago and I didn't know it. She gave it 1 star and said she couldn't wait for it to end. I read it a few days ago and I really liked it. Go figure!
I liked it because Hannah DID hit him with her car then spent months trying to find him and prove that she hit him. AND I liked it because Asher got killed every time you turned around and came back, naked. LOL
There was no romance and no swearing.
As for the narration: Eleanor Caudill did an excellent job!! When it comes to female narrators doing the men's voices I don't care if every men sounds alike as long as they sound like men. And they did!
i thouroughly enjoyed this book! i cant wait to read the other ones. allthough i did think it started off relatively slow, it was an interesting read and the plotline kept me going. i think that while it was a good book, i felt that at times it was extremely giving with details almost to the point where it was overwhelming. im the type of reader to personally visualise what im reading, so not truly knowing where anything was happening at or very minimal physical attributes made it hard. definitely a good read if you dont want something extremely challenging!
Hannah is tormented by her crash into an unknown man for months. She’s lost all will to live being eaten up with guilt. Finally, Asher shows up and kind of explains.
Once I got halfway through this book, it was great! Loved the writing style! It was just a very slow, laborious journey to get to the “good stuff”. Can’t wait to see what comes next.
Great afternoon read! These characters came to life immediately & I was hooked! For one who is an avid reader of vampire horror, this story was different enough to thoroughly enjoy! Although I wish it were twice the length, I'm excited to move onto the next one! If it's as good as this one was, I'll be through the series within this week!
I wanted to read something different to get back into reading. This book is definitely slow in some areas, some events make you say, but how and the rest just keeps you on the edge of wanting to know what’s going to happen next. I enjoyed the characters. This is my very first experience with Trilogy books so I hope book 2 Reverberation is just as interesting.
The first chapter sucks you in while the rest of the book keeps twirling you in one whirlpool after another with brief periods of human connection, love, loss, grief, and the absurd thoughts to keep you upright and rooted. I am headed to buy book two and three immediately!!!!!!
The last third of this book is what saved the story for me. Was very close to putting it in the DNF pile but kept pushing through because of another review. The ending alone is going to make me give the second book a chance. I just hope it’s a little more fast paced than this one.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Got into the characters straight away. The central concept of the story is intriguing and there are enough clues about Hannah and Asher to map out future story directions that I can’t wait to read.
I actually really enjoyed this book and the quirky uniqueness of the story line. I was hooked from the start and really enjoyed the characters and the way the mysterious story unfolded. Highly recommend. I look forward to the rest of the series.
This book had a new twist on wanting to live forever. Very suspenseful and engrossing. The characters were well defined even though there is more to the story. The story really kept me wondering what direction it would go next.
Amazing book, kept me on edge through every page. I never knew what to expect next, the plot twists and surprises were genuinely shocking. Not at all what I expected going into this read, but in the best way possible. Can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy.
I downloaded this not really expecting much, sorry. It was free on kindle. I am so glad I did and can honestly say it was worth reading. I visualised the book perfectly. Well done to the author, I will definitely read more of your books. It's always exciting to find a new author.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I like the out of the box thinking. Made for a very unique story. I can't wait to read the other books in this series. Asher and Hannah are each unique in their own way, but may be toxic to each other.
I liked it by the middle. Something about the beginning... I'm not really sure what. But for some reason it took me while to get into the this one. And I'm not really sure why! By the end it was good, can't wait til start the next book!
The first book in a three book series. I hope the other two are more exciting because this first one was sloooow. The story picked up at the end, so here's hoping the next two will have some action.
Wow an unexpected great story. This type of book is not my normal genre however the description sounded very interesting. Boy was I happily surprised. This is one of those can't put down books.
Very interesting story, easily followed. I was gently led into this story which had many twists and turns, not to mention the deaths within the pages. I can only hope book two is just as wonderful!
Anytime I get a chance to tap into the fantastic and mysterious I'm engaged. A.M. Caplan is a spectacular writer that drops you right into the setting she's created and keeps you moving throughout. Loved it and recommend it!
