Strikers #0.5

First Strike

Rate this book
Epidemiologist Giselle Quick is a happy woman. After being lured away from the CDC to work in the private sector, she now has it all: fulfilling work, a great paycheck, and time to spend with her sons. And seriously, who wouldn’t like getting paid to play diabolical games all day? That those games save lives makes it perfect.
Inside the BG Group’s laboratories, Giselle and her team game out all the possibilities of biological warfare and natural pandemics. Her Red Cell makes sure they’re prepared should the worst happen. It may be for profit, but it’s good work.
There’s only one small thing to mar this perfect job and life, but it’s beginning to make Giselle nervous about BG’s intentions...they’re getting far too interested in the results of her games.

First Strike is a standalone novella prequel to the Strikers Trilogy. There’s no need to read the entire series and it can be enjoyed before or after the main trilogy.

Ann Christy

Ann lives by the sea under the benevolent rule of her canine overlord and an incredibly foul-mouthed cat. A scientist and Navy officer by profession, the writing bug somehow got inside her during her travels. She's now stuck with it and can't stop writing.

She writes fully immersive works of science fiction and apocalyptic fiction. Ann is also a voracious reader, and adores a well-done audiobook. If she's not writing, then she's reading or listening.

Chillingly realistic- exactly how you would imagine this could happen! I have read all the first strike series. You can read this before or after the rest of the books. This is a chilling prequel that takes place near our timeline. I like that the author was a scientist for the military and all her books are based somewhat in reality. Like McGuyver, she tests out all her theories and then takes them out to their conclusion. So, you would think that the military or some govt contractor would think up how another nation could attack us with biological, well what if they made it a central point of their campaign! What if they developed them and then immunized their people against them? What if they then went on to decimate other nations? And what if it all starts with a brilliant scientist who thinks her research is for war games? That she will be protecting her country, a patriot. Get this book and get hooked on the series, you won't regret a minute of it.

Enjoyable stoty with scientific background
I haven't read the trilogy yet but I enjoyed reading this story. It easily transfers you to the work environment of the protagonist and to the minds of those dealing with bioweapons research, scientists and companies. It flows nicely and quickly.

Excellent. A tru portrait of texas

And it's arrogance...i can see this to be more than fiction...texas is a state who thinks they rule anything and everything and would do exactly what happens in this book

A scarily realistic novella about weaponised diseases.

Great prequel! It can be read as a stand-alone as well. It's a good story either way. Chilling and a bit scary, though, considering current world events. It's sobering to realize that we can be just one psychopath away from widespread destruction. It's certainly become evident lately that our society is more fragile than we thought.

This book explains the reason behind collapse of American society prior to the events in the first book of the Strikers series. It goes a long way toward clarifying why Texas is the top bad guy on the continent in the series. The Striker trilogy - one of my favorite reads - details a fascinating rebuilding process that produces very different territories across the country. That story deals with the present; First Strike explains the past of the previous century. It's not necessary to read that past history in order to enjoy the trilogy, but the background info enriches that story.

Either way, First Strike is a compelling story. This is true of all of Ann Christy's work. You can't go wrong reading her books.

Great storyline and characters. Well written and more plausible than most pandemic stories. I couldn’t put it down!
