"I went to Hawaii by myself to clear my head. To get away from the traffic, the noise, the demands. Ever since Andi, my beautiful wife, passed away, I've been alone. And often lonely. My son Luca is away at college, too. An empty-nester widower. Could I BE any more depressing? Lol.

But I do enjoy surfing at sunrise - just me and the ocean. Not a care in the world. Till one day a young surfer is injured - and Parker Radcliffe, a guy young enough to be my son and wealthy enough to own half of Manhattan, limps into my life.

I'm not ready to fall in love again. Maybe I'm not even able to love again. Could a man so much younger actually be wiser than me? And finally allow me to open my heart again?"

Can Anthony, a billionaire from the wrong side of the tracks, find true love with Parker, a wise-beyond-his-years younger man from one of New York's oldest families? Will their relationship withstand their differences - or was this only ever meant to be summer love? This is a gay for you / straight till you story of Anthony discovering his bisexuality with Parker, who's been out since he was a teenager.

This story has happily ever after, a first-time gay experience for Anthony, and a lot of heart - and steam! And three epilogues - so you get to know what happens in the future!

Surge is the first book in my new OM/YM gay/MM romance series! Still sweet, still just as steamy :) with a lot of heart as always. You are going to love getting to know Parker and Anthony!

A sweet, and laid back gay for you, older man/younger man romance. When I started the audio book, I just knew I had to have the e-book and quickly one clicked it. I am more visual than audible, so seeing the words and hearing them made quite a difference. And it was worth it!Though fast paced in timing, the story line had a smooth flow to it.

Anthony Amato, a retired, widowed doctor who'd gotten a windfall with his business, met Parker Radcliff, a younger man "with an old soul" , when the latter injured himself surfing. Theirs was a saccharine sweetness that flowed like the waves they rode. An easy relationship - the only strain was Parker's to me annoying overprotective mother, Bitsy - who soon stood down.

I loved that this new to me author could draw me in and I could go on and on about the writing style, but I won't. The descriptive alone was enough to have me imagining the sights and feels and tastes of Hawa'ii. And she gave the reader a glimpse into the future, with not one or two epilogues, but THREE. I also look forward to the next two books in the series titled: Urge and Merge.

For the audio book, here's my review:

Overall : As my gushy review can attest, this was for me a five star performance, giving me a plot, loads of chemistry, heat and an almost realistic story. And for all the non believers out there, love at first sight does happen and I am prove to it.

Performance : Five friggin stars. I am new-ish to audible, so I have been sampling a few narrators and I have to say, first Adam Lawrence book and I declare, I can listen to him again. I felt in the moment. The narration was smooth and blended. I was easily able to distinguish between the characters and the thoughts.

Story : As Above, five star rating with 4 heat.

I am glad I found this opportunity to review both the book (bought by me) and the audio, taken voluntarily and honestly without bias or persuasion from Booksprout.

(audiobook version) Sweet short story about Anthony, a 42 year old rough-around-the-edges widower, who meets Parker, a 21 year old college student, while surfing in Hawaii. It’s gay-for-you trope-y fun, as Anthony comes to Parker’s rescue during a surfing mishap, and a relationship is born. Likeable characters, heat level just right for this story. Nice narration by Adam Lawrence brought the characters to life. I would read more in this series.

Solid 2.75 for a short totally fluffy story with no depth or connection to characters. Did I listen to the entire thing, yes. It was an hour and 30mins. Was I on the edge of my seat? Uh. No. Will I remember it tomorrow? Definitely not. But did it serve as a palate cleanse, ((reluctantly)) I guesssssss. I was hoping for more daddy boy vibes I guess but age gap and absolutely no drama or bipanic has a place I suppose. 40 is not old ...ok? ffs.

4.5 stars, audiobook -- Talk about a cute, sweet, and sensual short story! Anthony may be older but Parker doesn't mind one bit. While I enjoyed the whole story, I truly loved the ending! Oh...and I loved the narrator. His accent was great and the husk in his voice was perfect! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Adorable short story

This was an adorable short story. It felt authentic & plausible, especially for what could be called an “instalove” style plot. I loved that both main characters were supportive & mature, respectful & kind. And it’s a full story with no cliffhangers! I would read the next instalment from this author.

Dr. Anthony Amato, who lived and worked in New York, had bought a simple home on the North Shore of Oahu some time ago. It was beautiful here, a quiet place to recharge for a couple of weeks each year and to enjoy the surfing. It made him feel alive again. He had a favorite spot where very few surfers went, except for a young guy around his son’s age. As they surfed, the young guy had to bail off his surfboard and got a bad slice in his leg from the reef. Anthony was a doctor and stopped the bleeding, but Parker Radcliffe, the young man, would need stitches and couldn’t walk or drive his van. Anthony carried him all the way to the van, glad he lifted weights regularly since Parker was pure muscle.

The next day, Anthony went to get the van and drove to Parker’s resort to return it to him. Parker, on crutches, invited him to stay for lunch and to go out in his boat afterward. Parker guided him to his favorite private beach and they talked and enjoyed each other’s company. At the luau that night, Parker told Anthony, who was leaving the next day, that he would miss him very much. Both of them seemed to regret that there was no more time left to share together, and Parker was still healing from his surfing injuries. They also didn’t know what it was they were feeling – although both had begun to suspect.

The story line of this book is nicely-paced, but the main attraction for the reader is the absolutely fantastic characters we meet. Anthony is a young-at-heart doctor who misses his deceased wife. Parker is an “old soul” mature 20-year-old who attends the same college as Anthony’s son back in New York. Their friendship is perfect, especially as their relationship deepens. Their personalities complement each other and their shared love of surfing really forms a bond. This is a beautiful story. Grab your copy and see what the future holds as Anthony heads back to New York. Is his meeting Parker just a memory? Or will they reconnect and find out what they have when they are back home?

A totally sweet story of finding love when you arent looking for it!!!
This story is short and so very sweet. Parker and
Anthony was in Hawaii, something he did every year to breathe. He still hasn't got over the loss of his wife. He is still young at heart and still goes surfing every morning before the sea gets busy with people. But that morning there was another someone else on the water. And he caught a wave but he didnt ride the wave the wave took him and tossed him around leaving him injured and Anthony was quick to paddle to him and help him as he was bleeding. Parker
was in a lot of pain and was glad that for once he wasn't alone. Anthony had to carry him on his back to get him to safety and get him to the hospital. But Anthony was confused about the feelings he was having carrying a half naked man on his back, he is straight so why be having thee thoughts about another man, he had a wife he has a son does that make a difference??
Parker had a massive crush on Anthony. But he knew he was straight but these feelings were electric for him. As a thank you he took him out on his boat and they spent time together. Could anything happen.
Their story has a magical feeling. This is my first book by Phoebe Sweet and it wont be my last. In these times we need something to take our mind off all the madness in this world and this book just made my heart sing. It made me forget about everything going on around me and that's just bliss

Short and satisfying. Andrea/Andy, Anthony's wife passed away after being married 20 years. Luca was their only son. When Luca went to college, Dr Anthony Amato started going to North Oahu, he eventually bought a house. He surfed early every morning, finding his peace and balance. Parker Radcliff showed up every morning also. He was in Oahu with his Mom on vacation. Parker had a surfing accident and Tony carried him to the van. Tony developed feelings after carrying Parker skin to skin. He questioned his straight guy feelings. Parker was 19, his son's age. Is Anthony, comfortable enough to explore his feelings? Is he midlife curious, or is there something more? Great story. The 3 Epilogues are amazing! Well done. This is my first story by this author and I look forward to reading more. Dr. Anthony Amato has lost his wife. He lives in New York City but has a house in Oahu that is quiet and peaceful. He likes to surf and go there to be restored. While there for a couple of weeks he is out surfing and he encounters a man about the same age as his son. While surfing one day the man gets injured and he tends to him. Anthony and Parker spend some time together post the accident and in that time they find that despite the age difference they are matched in important ways. And although Anthony was married to a woman, he finds an emotional connection to a beautiful, mature young man. Though the story is not long it is satisfying - 3 epilogues!

This was a wonderful May - December romance combined with a gay you twist. Anthony and Parker are delightful characters with depth and personality. Set on the north shore of Oahu, with the beautify of the scenery and joy of finding a new and unexpected love. This was a great read and I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a beautiful story to wrap yourself up in.

I really enjoyed this sweet older man/younger man romance. Anthony, after getting to know Parker, realizing that he has feelings for another person(male person), after mourning his late wife, didn't seem fake. Parker appeared to be so mature...an old soul...had no problems relaying his feelings for Anthony despite the age difference. For these two wonderful people it seems to work with Anthony finding love again and Parker being in love for the first time. I really loved the series of epilogues after the main story. They were wonderful to read. I can't wait to read the next book in the series featuring Anthony's best friend.

I love mm age gap romance - it's one of my favorite tropes that's why I jumped at getting this book. Surge is a sweet romance and it's a good read if that's all you want. The characters are a bit cliche and the plot rushed and predictable. There was even an error that could used a proofreader - the crutches fell when Anthony a and Parker hugged each other and then it fell again later when Anthony went to carry Parker.

However, I enjoyed reading this story because I'm a romantic at heart and it was an easy and light read during this pandemic.

This was a short read. Had a lot of the tropes I tend to favor such as May/December (Age Gap), Bi/Pan Awakening (Gay for You tag has bi erasure undertones) and Single Dad.

I did enjoy this one a lot; I just wish it was a little longer. I felt that the story could have benefited from a couple things being tied over/resolved a bit more.

Anyway, this is a new to me author that I will be checking out for future releases. All in all , it was a good read.

Very enjoyable book. The main characters were genuinely sweet without being over the top.

A fact that I really enjoyed was that there wasn't any unnecessary conflict manufactured in the story. I also liked that Anthony (the older male) was open to his attraction to another man, and there was no "manly" protesting.

A sweet, quick paced love story. Very likable characters give a great performance. Anthony, young at heart and Parker, an older soul, fit together beautifully. Set them up in Hawaii, add sweet romance, conclude with a HEA, as well as a peek at their lives down the road, and you have one terrific and entertaining story.
