THIS. BOOK. IS. AMAZING, I am absolutely fascinated. How to Be a Christian Witch has easily become one of my go-to literature recommendations for those who are misinformed and those who are conflicted. I've also included it in the reading list I've curated for my coven; we aim to be well-educated on our magickal community.
I'll begin by mentioning that I'm not Christian nor have I ever been. I have never agreed with organized religion and have had many negative experiences, so the concept of a Christian Witch has been rather unfathomable. How can you be a Witch if you also follow Christian dogma? If you're wondering the same thing, this book will open your eyes.
What impressed me the most is how the author consistently uses an open-minded, respectful, love-filled voice. Additionally, she gives a clear, detailed, well-organized explanation on how to reclaim your spiritual power by looking deep into the Self and using your True Intuition to invoke empowerment - all while weaving Christian elements into her witchcraft: Angel Magick, Ruling Bible Characters, Invocation of the Archangels, using the Bible and other sacred texts as magickal implements, connecting with Spirits in the cosmos, and so much more.
Although we practice our magick differently, I've learned invaluable information that has inspired me on such a deep level within my own practices, as well as being more open-minded about Christian Witches. Where once I was skeptical, I'm now 100% more willing to initiate a Christian Witch into my coven if ever such an event happens, seeing as how we hold the same values at the heart of it all.
If you practice witchcraft at all, or even if you're simply just curious, I encourage you to read this book and expand on your knowledge. ♡
I wanted to love this book. I was SO excited when I found it, that I bought it immediately in paperback and Kindle, so I could steer right away. But, really, it was just “meh” for me. Perhaps it would speak more to evangelicals (I’m Catholic), but it just didn’t do it for me.
I mostly picked this up out of curiosity. I find the intersection of Christianity with women’s wisdom interesting. The further I got into it the more I found myself skimming, and occasionally eye rolling. Not my thing. C’est la Vie.
Information is interesting and very open and loving. However I would consider this universalist or agnostic and not necessarily “Christian” in its essence.
I love Valerie Love's YouTube channel. Her energy is so positive and she knows her stuff. This book was really good. I like how she lays down a template, without too many rules. This book is best read on a kindle, so you can do your research as you read. She has links to go deeper, which is awesome. This book is for people interested in becoming a Christian witch as well as for people interested in high magick. I love how she dispels fear about Crowley and explains the true meaning of "Do What Thou Will."
Does not accurately describe Christianity *or* witchcraft. The following is this book's entire section on Western Astrology:
"Here we give attention to our sun sign, moon sign, rising sign and North Node. If you have a gifted astrologer you trust, invest in a full horoscope, including all your houses. I’m not big on Western Astrology, yet I know enough to be dangerous. More importantly, I know that the most critical element is to understand its role in my soul’s unfoldment."
I picked this up because I wanted to learn how Witchcraft crosses over into Religion and how God and some peoples craft can work together. The first bit was good, there was a lot that made sense and spoke to me (see my highlights). All about finding your path in life and your spiritual journey.
The second half I didn't like as much. Lots of rules to follow and rituals that don't speak to me at all.
I'm going to be reading more about this because I think it's worth exploring.
This book confirms conversation i be having with my soul, it is grounding and straight to the point. I recommend it for any soul that in on the fence and need a boost in making that decision from within. I give it 5 stars because this 1 book is really helping me with my inner conversation. Thank You Rev V. Love. Kel
This was an interesting read, but not quite what I thought it was upon reading the description. Valerie seems like an absolute sweetheart, and I'm glad to have stumbled upon her work.
