"Not all survive the bite, her twin brother didn't.
Your neighbor is just as likely to be a vampire as they are to be a troll, human, elf, or a werewolf. Amber's parents never forgave her after her brother died. They were young and careless, but Amber left all that guilt in Texas when she fled to the pacific northwest to be a nurse. But when she decides to play hero, her life as a nurse is cut short. Newly turned wolves aren't easily trusted.
If you crave fast-paced, action-packed urban fantasy with romance kept on the lighter side, then you'll be wrapped up in Amber's pack tighter than your coziest reading blanket.
Llevo como dos semanas intentando seguir con la lectura de esta saga y no hay manera. Creo que no estoy ni en el momento, ni en la franja de edad ideal para disfrutar de ella. Me resulta bastante aburrida. La otra saga que leí de esta escritora sí me gustó, pero, claro, era fantasía urbana para adultos. Esta parece más enfocada hacia un público juvenil o adultos jóvenes (como quiera que se les llame en español).
Not really a romance. There’s something going on in the plot that has potential but I am bored. The story is taking forever to develop. It does seem like it will be complicated and involved and based on what I’m reading, I will be bored forever trying to get to the point. Upside is that I noticed very few grammatical errors in what I did manage to read.
I like the Witch’s Bite series by this author, which leads to trying to choke down this series more than once. Inevitably, I start skimming, then skipping, chapters before giving up completely. The author tries to tell the story switching between the perspectives of almost every major character. By the 3rd book, the author is trying to cover more than a dozen different first-person narratives while continuing to add yet more characters to the mix. Unfortunately, the scattershot approach means that none of the characters are developed well. Amber has red hair and is loyal. Tommy likes to cook. Ceri loves animals. Genevieve is a lawyer. Beyond the core group, there’s Donovan, Dylan, Derek, Thallan, Jameson, Angel/Kadrithian, Eloise, Evangeline, Shaun, Shane, Steve, Paul, Kevin, and so on and so forth until there was some big reveal about who was working with the sorcerer and my reaction was “huh? Which one is he?”
I thought that this was a completed trilogy. I was enjoying it, for the most pat, and when we got to the final climax I was so invested. And then came the fallout - and a letdown- when I realised that this was not the end and threads have been left dangling. If you go into this knowing it’s a 5 book series, then it’s very engrossing and you won’t be left with feeling like you just got shortchanged.
Amber is a great character. She’s strong, determined and flawed in a way that makes her relatable. Her evolution is the most prominent narrative, but there are other loveable characters as well. Shane and Jamison just frustrated the heck outta me (hoping Amber rips into them in the next books), and Captain Jack… well, I’ll let you discover that tidbit by yourself ;D
The characters are likeable, loyal, honorable and have flaws. All pack members have a history of not fitting in or being outcast. The pack had bonded into a family. The chapters swtch POV between multiple characters. There is plenty of action. This is not a romance. Although there may be developing relationships, they are secondary to the story.
I bought this thinking it was the completed series, but its not. It is the first 3 books and although many subplots are resolved, it still leaves you hanging for the war to come. I know now that book 4 is available and ends in a cliffhanger based on reviews. It is a good value with an interesting story and engaging characters. Be aware the story continues and is not complete.
Just when you think you understand what's going on, it proves you wrong. This read begins with a fight and ends with another. I between the world builds thru a set of strangers brought together under a prophecy and curses. A strong woman alpha building a new family of misfits into a strong pack. Each addition bringing in a cohesive group of allies of different races and beings. Books 1 to 3 is the start and I recommend this series even just for the feeling the closeness of how strangers learn to trust and become a family. At the end the best part is you find out what Captain Jack truly is..... Best part is yet to come.
You know I really liked it Amber because she was a tough woman and she didn’t let her feelings for a man get involved with taking care of her pack this is a Potter really love also something that I was looking for as well because most of the books that I have read the woman always falls head over heels in love and it’s not really tough Amber shows you that she was tough she was a boss turn on time it was amazing
This story is action packed from beginning to end. The POV from all the characters views is awesome too since you get to know what everyone is thinking and feeling. Great writing, love the twists and turns. Must read!!!!
I listened to these as audiobooks and enjoyed the storyline and the characters but there was something I found detracted from getting fully immersed in this world. Repetitive phrases. Each character drags their hand down their face, or glares or grinds their teeth, all the time.

Really enjoyed how the Misfits found family and a sense in belonging with each other. And prove the wider magical/were community that pedigree isn’t everything, Family and self belief is!
Can't really go into detail on any one book without messing with the others. I'm not even sure which book was which. It's fun. The characters are interesting. It leans a bit much on the "not like other girls" trope and it is really pushing the "old rules are for old fogeys" narrative a bit much (which got interesting at the end of book 4). That was ok, though, because in most instances I agreed with both ;-)
I "read" this on audible during a cross country trip. It was perfect for my purposes. It was engaging, but it was also possible to ignore when necessary (there were a lot of spots I had to rewind because driving!). The voice artist was awesome, too. I really liked her.
