I am still reeling after finishing this book, as it is so full of action happening on three different fronts simultaneously. We follow Lukys as he is taken by the Tangata to their ancestral home, as they find out he can hear them and talk back to them mind to mind. We also follow the tracks of Erika the Queen's Archivist, as she escapes towards the Gemaho lands, with Maisie, king Nguyen's spy and her captive, Cara the Goddess and friend of Romaine and Lukys who Erika had betrayed. On the other hand Queen Amina of Flumeer learns of Erika's betrayal and is on the war path travelling towards the Gemaho to seek her revenge, and save the Goddess, so Romaine travels with the Queen and her army. Romaine's only aim being to protect and save Cara, be this from Erika's clutches or those of the foreign King Nguyen. However many things happen and paths cross and Lukys finds out things he would have never believed about the Tangata as he meets up with friends he thought he had lost, and together they face a danger they all hoped never to face again. Seems so many lies had been fabricated about the Tangata who turns out were not the animals they were portrayed to be but Lukys could not put aside his prejudices even though Sophia, whose mate he had killed was kind to him and looked out for his safety all the time. I am dying to read further into the story as the intrigue has captured my imagination and I just cannot stop thinking of our heroic characters both human, tangata and gods! This is epic fantasy as its best.
