Wilde Ways #9

Chase After Me

Rate this book
It’s an undercover mission. Get in. Get close to the woman. Get the intel. Get out. Should be easy enough. Right?

Wrong.

Chase Durant’s newest assignment goes wrong from the moment he meets Vivian Wayne. She’s not cold and calculating. The scientist is charming, funny, and absolutely freaking gorgeous. He’s supposed to be seducing secrets out of her. She’s supposed to be a selling classified intel. She’s supposed to be bad.

She’s the best thing he’s ever seen.

Doesn’t take long for the Wilde agent to realize that Vivian has been set-up, and the folks setting her up thought they could use Wilde to do their dirty work. Thought they could use Chase in order to make Vivian vulnerable so that she’d be the perfect target.

Wrong.

Instead of using her, Chase is determined to protect Vivian. The only problem? He’s been lying to her from day one, and things have…heated up between them. More like gone molten. Because Chase wants her more than he’s ever wanted anyone, and he’s not about to step back and let another agent take over her case. Vivian needs protecting, and he’s just the man for the job.

Correction—he’s just the man for Vivian. He just has to prove that he can be the right one for her.

Wrong.

But when Vivian finds out that he’s been lying, how can she trust him? Time is running out, and Vivian’s heart is in tatters. She fell for the wrong man, and now she might pay for that mistake with her life. Chase seemed perfect. He flew past her defenses, and she thought he seemed might be just—

Right.

Chase won’t back down. He won’t give up. He’ll prove to Vivian that she can count on him. Prove to her that he will always put her first. Prove to her that he can be the right man for her. He simply has to destroy her all of enemies and convince Vivian to fall for him once more. Only this time, she’ll be falling for the real man. Not the lie.

All in a day’s work for a Wilde agent…right?

Author’s Note: Opposites don’t just attract—they explode. Sparks are gonna fly, lust is gonna burn, and Mr. Cocky and Confident Chase is about to fall hard for a woman who snuck right past his guard. Bam. There may be groveling involved before the book is done. And, of course, lots of scorching scenes. Happy ending guaranteed, no cliff-hangers—just fun, hot romance, and plenty of action.

Overall a cute and entertaining read involving uber confident Wilde agent Chase Durant and his undercover assignment Vivian Wayne.

Dual POV in this works well and kept me engaged.

I always love a fix of Cynthia Eden and this book filled my need, mostly - there was something tiny missing, it had me pausing a little throughout the read, but still enjoyable. The only thing I really really didn't like was that Vivian didn't make

Curious to learn more about CIA operative Dex, potential for a fab character, but we'll see how things go.

Super cute! This was a fun read. It had that perfect blend of suspense, romance, j/p hero, quirky heroine and humor.

Chase takes one look at Vivian and he is mesmerized. Never mind that he's there to find proof of her crime and take her down.

Vivian is that mix of sweet, quirky, but strong heroine. She quotes facts when she's nervous. She's a bookworm and a little bit shy. But, don't mess with her because she is also fearless.

Overall, I enjoyed these two and their adventure. I had just finished a pretty emotion book when I started this and it was exactly what I needed to read to get my mood back to happy.

Five seductive, nerdy stars because I can’t hack into the system to make it ten!

I couldn’t wait to really meet Chase and learn his behind the scenes mannerisms. Particularly the ones that revolve around his use of the statement, “Huh” in any given situation. He’s driven other characters crazy with it but it only endears him to Vivian. And of course, that’s when you know it’s true love.

I loved the way this couple first meet and the following scenes that entail their getting to know each other. It was fresh, cute and had me grinning through it all. Chase captured my heart from the beginning when he becomes disgruntled that things with Vivian aren’t going as planned and then I fell completely in love when his fierce protective instincts rose up accompanied by his possessiveness of Vivian.

Intruders twice target same San Luis Obispo home

Vivian was not at all what I was expecting. She was nerdy with a tendency to ramble odd tidbits when nervous and holy heck, do I love a heroine with these characteristics. I fell as hard in love with her as I did Chase, if not more so.

Shark Plush Slippers - ApolloBox

This is definitely filled with action and drama that is primarily from outside their relationship although there is a bit of angst from within as well. I had the best time watching this couple grow together, deal with the problems around them, and fall in love, all while surrounded by bad guys, questionable guys, friends and coworkers...many that had me chuckling at their antics and banter.

Kiss GIF

Due to the action, this is a fast read and the steam level is Holy Heck Hot! I loved the twists I didn’t even see coming. Add in an ending that made my heart squeal with delight and an epilogue that has me ready for the next couple in the series, and I’m ready to turn back to the first page and read this one again!

I just didn’t feel the relationship at all, it all felt very surface level. Like yeah, I liked he was obsessed and all about her but it didn’t give me the usual butterflies because I didn’t feel the connection.

The most annoying thing though?

Also the bad guys were so obvious from the start it just annoyed me. And I mean like might as well have been wearing I’m the bad guy t shirts.

Four and a half
So it's was finally time for uber confident Chase to fall and boy does he fall hard. He's on a mission undercover to get close to a woman who has stolen CIA secrets that could get many killed but Vivian isn't at all what Chase expected. Vivian is sweet and yet sharp, prickly and yet warm and did I mention she's a very talented hacker ? Yes Vivian is so bright you could probably see her from space but the question is what will Chase do when he starts to doubt that she really is a traitor ?
For all his bravado and cocky ways Chase really is very protective and Vivian pushes all his buttons here so be prepared for a very jealous, gung ho hero because I don't think Chase knows how to back down. I really liked the way Vivian could turn on a dime from gentle almost hesitate to this clever, brave woman. Yes if Chase is the brawn then Vivian is most assuredly the brain of their relationship and I found that strangely satisfying. The synopsis tells you it's a happy ending so I won't go into details but there are perhaps one or two red herrings to keep you guessing who Vivian needs to be wary of with action thrown in to keep you on the edge of your seat. Yes its a hot and heavy romance but Chase is a man who likes to savour whether it be Vivian or even a plate of chocolate brownies ! Plenty of clues about who the next book is about but I spotted someone else who was introduced here and I know the author has a habit of going back and bringing them to life in subsequent stories so I will be watching closely to discover if I'm right. A fun, satisfying read about two characters who have struggled to overcome their pasts and I'm happy to say they find a love that many can only dream of.
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I'm always so happy to read a story by Cynthia Eden. She has the best characters. I love her alpha males. There is just something about them. You can't help wanting them.

So here we are with Chase. I really like him and his "huh's" I don't know how that one word is such a turn on but it is. Then you have Vivian you knowns just why he says it and you know they are the perfect couple. These two just work.

Right from the start, you can see how fast Chase falls for Vivian. He doesn't believe all that's being said and works as hard as he can to protect her.

I also enjoyed the interaction between them and Dex who for some reason calls to me. Eden is good for doing that to me. I read about a new male character and want his book. As in the prior book, Dex is there and in your face. How Chase didn't kill him I have no clue.

Why Chase does everything he can to protect Vivian the people around him aren't sure if she can be trusted. It puts a bit of a damper on friendships that's for sure.

What I loved was how well the action flowed throughout the story and the little surprises we learned. This is the perfect addition to the Wilde Ways series. If you like lighter suspense with humor this series is perfect for you. Did I also mention the alpha males? Can't forget that. You'll also find the stories all well-written. Now we finally get Dex's story and I just can't wait for it. You've got some time to read all the stories in time for Dex.

Another good read in the Wilde Ways book series. Not a big review but a few things to note.

💙 Yes, Chase lied to Vivian in the beginning but he felt terrible about it from the moment he met Vivian.

💙 Dexter is an absolute dick but in an entertaining way that you know he's going to be charming about it in his book (which is next).

💙 Chase loves Vivian's ass and it is so entertaining. 😂

💙 No Ghost in this one so suuuch bummer because everyone knows James is my absolute fave!

💙 Has Cynthia's trademark wit and hero who just wants to protect his woman.

💙 Sexy times

Undercover specialist Ex-SEAL Just Fell for a Sweet & Smart CIA digital forensic engineer..
I had been hella excited for Chase's story! To see his Huh-ing, Heroism & of course to see HIM Fall for Vivian❤ So so Loved these two! Such a great addition to the series, DEVOURED it in 7hrs! Both had hard Pasts, deserved happiness💙.

She was supposed to be just a job, but became so much more..
Chase's job was to find Viv's secrets, but from the moment he saw her, his gut told him that she's good. Innocent.
Her blush & delicious Brownies don't lie. But so not the evidence against her, or does it?

Through Break-ins, Dates, Hot kisses, Secret sharing.. They became close, Chase's guilt hiked. He knew she Didn't do it, he'll find evidence to prove it. What if she's a world class liar? If she did?
But He'd found other suspects too...

Viv knew someone was framing her & went to Chase for help, she trusted him.. AND When she's bombed, almost killed.. Chase knew it's time to call in the big guns: Wilde. Time for truth.

He'd Lied. Betrayed. It broke her heart. She hurts. Seeing her hurt gutted him. He swore to show her that he's not a monster, That he could be the right man. For Her.

Here comes Dex, one of the good guys but still a Jerk, Mysterious CIA operative. 1st seen in 'Never Gonna happen'. We find that he's the guy who hired Wilde, to find the Traitors in the CIA. And now that Viv's not a suspect, she's gotta be the bait..

Chase remains Close to Viv. Determined to protect her. Even though she should hate the guy..She doesn't. Not totally *Chuckle* they're both soooo falling for eachother!!
Even as their Attraction blazes, he doesn't take. Just gives *Wink*

Through safe houses, In the 1st one he almost lost her... Never had felt that kind of fear, never wanted to see her not breathing again... He'll give everything to protect her.
In the 2nd one he does just that. Even as they succumb to the desire, him almost confessing his love.. Bad guys closes in. He gave himself to them, protecting her..Omg, I kinda cried here.

Viv knew she'll do everything to get him back, to protect the man she loves. Eric (Wilde boss, I so love him!) & Dex suspects it's insider job. Traitors, not only in CIA but in Wilde securities too.. PLAN TIME. SET.

Even as their plan goes astray, True Traitors someone they'd all considered Friends. Poor Chase was tortured, but he & Viv were able to fight back (What a place to confess feelings, huh?).. Finally the bad guys captured, CASE CLOSED!
But this is just the start of Chase & Vivian's HEA.. She'll marry him, yay!!

Chase had me worried there, with all the blood loss. Gladly his & Dex's blood matched *whew*. Talk with the villains revealed some truths.. Sad ones. About the death of Viv's mom, the love of a mafia boss.. Finally had revenge.

Chase'll hold Viv through pain, happiness, in every moment of life. A happy life, a beautiful family they both deserve. Together.

P.s. Wow, the epilogue. I wonder what Problem Dex has acquired. We see Lacey, a new Wilde agent here, she's damn lovely. & Dex's fall. *Evil laugh* So excited for Dex+Lacey's story next!

Another great entry. Chase and Viv have sparks. I love how she rambles facts when she’s nervous. Viv has had a rough go of it and doesn’t trust easily. Chase is protective from the start. Chase knows what he’s doing and what he’s getting into. Right? Hmmmmm.....the epilogue is the best!

I felt no connection/chemistry between the H & h. This book has everything, romance, suspense but they are just words, just to fill the pages. It took me a long long time to finish this one and I had to really make myself read till the end.

Wouldn't recommend it!

CHASE AFTER ME is the ninth instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult WILDE WAYS romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Wilde Ways Security. This is former Navy SEAL and Wilde Ways security specialist Chase Durant, and CIA Digital Forensic Engineer Vivian Wayne’s story line. CHASE AFTER ME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from third person perspective CHASE AFTER ME follows former Navy SEAL and Wilde Ways security specialist Chase Durant on his latest assignment. Wilde Ways has been tasked by the CIA to infiltrate and uncover the truth about CIA Digital Forensic Engineer Vivian Wayne. Vivian Wayne is suspected of stealing CIA personnel files but having met our story line heroine Chase Durant suspects Vivian is about to take the fall for someone else. When Vivian becomes the target of an unknown enemy, Chase places himself in the direct line of fire to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love. What ensues is the building but forbidden relationship between Chase and Vivian, and the potential fall-out as the people involved go much deeper than anyone could have expected.

Chase Durant knows to get involved with his latest target could mean the end of his security career but something about Vivian draws Chase like a moth to a flame including the ‘sense’ that Vivian is not the enemy. Vivian Wayne is on leave from the CIA but our heroine begins to suspect that Chase is more than her new next door neighbor when a series of events involving Chase and his partner Merik begins to spiral out of control.

The relationship between Vivian and Chase is one of immediate attraction but Vivian is Chase’s target, his assignment. The sexual tension is raw; the $ex scenes are spicy and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Wilde Ways owner Erik Wilde, Chase’s friends and fellow Wilde Ways employees Lacey Amari , and Merik Stone; CIA operative and investigator Dex Ryan, and building maintenance manager Jacob Webb.

CHASE AFTER ME is a spirited story of betrayal, secrets, lies, power and control. The character driven premise is inviting; the characters are sassy, flirty and charismatic; the romance is provocative and intense.

WHAT A STUPENDOUS, THRILLING, ENTERTAINING AND WONDERFULLY SEXY AND SUSPENSEFUL RIDE CHASE AFTER ME WAS!

This book had it ALL! Laughs, wit, sizzling chemistry, AMAAAAAZING characters and a plot that constantly kept me on my toes and had me begging for more. I so very much liked Chase. He was fierce, sexy as hell, sweet, protective, and smart while Vivian was an amazing, genuine kind of heroine and her quirks were honestly charming. I loved these two! This story was loaded with action and twists and surprises mixed with hot sex and heart melting romance that just did me in. I honestly don't think I will ever get enough of Cynthia Eden's romantic suspense novels because they make me happy and leave me breathless. Every. Single. Time. I am never disappointed! Chase After Me won my heart and I am already excited about reading it again.

Every book in this series just gets better than the last!!
Vivian is quirky, shy and does not trust easily. I love how she just starts sprouting off random facts when she’s nervous and she’s super smart.
Chase is sent undercover to catch her red handed stealing government secrets. As soon as he meets her he starts having doubts about her guilt.
The combination of humor, suspense, hotness and great storyline make this the perfect Summer Read.
I love all the crossover’s from other series. There is lots of banter between characters. Chase is super alpha and protective. Lots of suspense with a OMG twist I didn’t see coming.Smoking hot as always.
I can’t get enough of this series and the next book is something I did see coming and I’m so ready!

Review posted on Got Fiction? book blog

This is Ms. Eden’s 9th book in her Wilde Ways series and I must say that I really love this series. In this book, We have Chase Durant who has cracked me up in previous books, going under cover. His mission is to get in with Vivian Wayne, a woman who contracts for the CIA and who is possibly selling undercover agents’ identities on the black market. Chase finds undercover work to be easy, but when it comes to Vivian, nothing is easy.

Vivian is a sweet and innocent woman. Emphasis on the innocent. Her father and subsequent step-father were both pretty bad guys, and once she knew the truth, Vivian vowed to always stay on the up and up. She knows it’s looking bad, she knows something is going down, but she doesn’t know who to trust. Yet for some reason, she trusts her new neighbor Chase. He caught someone trying to break in to her apartment, and he makes her feel safe. He also makes her feel sexy.

For someone who doesn’t trust easily, she really trusts Chase. Until she found out Chase had been lying to her. Dex does, well, he does something for the CIA but no one really knows what. And he’s the reason Wilde Security was hired to find out if Vivian was selling secrets or not. Dex is an ass. He has been in previous books, and he is even more so now. I’m really curious to see how he holds up an entire book when I get to his, but if anyone can make me like him, it’s Ms. Eden. He basically spills all the beans to Vivian so Chase looks bad…but she realizes that Chase is more than an undercover agent, he’s still that man she can trust. And the two of them step into a dangerous game of survival the second they leave the building.

I loved how Chase was able to become a growly alpha in love, but able to retain his sense of humor. I’ve noticed when her men fall, they fall hard, and sometimes they get so serious and intense that they lose that sense of humor they had in previous books.

I liked this one, and I enjoyed the plot twist, that I didn’t see coming. That’s one of my favorite things about this author; she has the ability to make each book feel fresh yet still keep the aspects I like about her style and voice. I keep coming back to Cynthia Eden as my go-to Romantic Suspense author.

THIS was the book I thought I was picking up! And I wanted to read it as soon as I read Counting on Cole.

I really liked Chase. And damn - Vivian Wayne and her history and there was SO MUCH. And it's apparently where Dex was introduced and OBVIOUSLY I've already read Dex's book and kinda loved him and ... heh - I'm glad I read his book first/the later books cuz in this one he DEFINITELY is a dick - and I hate the "I know something you don't know" types and I GET he's a total spymaster ... but oof.

I liked that Chase felt guilty and such. - this one I didn't guess the baddie[s] THAT quickly. There was a really good misdirect too, which I enjoyed.

I just really enjoyed all the parts to it - seeing more of Wilde and Eric and like DAMN could they NOT FUCKING CATCH A BREAK - however - HOWEVER - it all made perfect sense/there was definitely a reason for it. And I liked how everyone was smart - it was ... I mean when Viv "got in the way" of Chase going after the person; she thought she was helping him; she thought "hey I have CIA training and this is dude off the street."

I'm kinda curious about Dex's puppet mastering ... [like why her/how did she get on his radar? Or ... her ... family I guess?]
I love that Eric hires her.
[The hint at Lacey; I ... don't think the family like ... her family issues are really dealt with in the book/her Wilde connection?]
ANYWAY.
Back to Viv and Chase.

Their connection, how taken Chase is, the misunderstanding and honestly Viv is SO WAY forgiving like damn. BUT ALSO she's too smart to cut off her nose to spite her face and I respect not letting anger/hurt etc getting in your way. Good for her - dunno if I could manage that.

I can definitely see myself re-reading this book.
It just made me happy.
[Heh and the end/lead in to the next book. Dex and Lacey. <3]

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

A spy romance with lots of twists !

After the glimpses of Chase in the previous books and his boy scout side, I was curious to see him undercover for his next mission ... And I loved it ! All those lies where you KNOW it's going to go wrong ! All that angst when she finds out he lied to her about everything ... OMG ><
Well I have to admit here I had guessed the identity of the culprit very early on but I still really liked the whole very twisted plot full of spying and the CIA and I LOVED the heroine who turns out to be so clever and worthy of the CIA !

In short, a spy romance perfect for entertainment !

PS: I SO NEED the book with Dex "I-am-a-manipulator-badass" ... And I SO NEED a book with Layla !!

Chase is a Navy SEAL, Vivian is the stepdaughter of a Russian Mob Boss/CIA Digital Forensic Engineer. Chase knew from the moment he met Vivan he was in love with her and would do anything to prove her innocence even though he was hired to do the opposite. As the tension builds and their life is put in danger more than once they find that one of their own, on both sides, betrayed them. One of the great things about this book, is you have no idea that her step father is behind the scenes, watching to make sure she stays safe.

I'm not a big fan of Dex, I hate how he constantly sets up Wilde agents and Eric to get his own agenda across. I think that if he wants Eric's help he needs to be straight forward. I think Chase handled him wonderfully and is probably one of the only other people who could. I missed seeing the other agents at Wilde but am glad that Chase got his HEA, especially since he made fun of everyone else for so long. I highly recommend this book!

Another incredible story in the fantastic world that Ms. Eden has built that I can’t wait to go back to again and again. With each new book this series gets better and better, you have everything you need - well developed characters, fast paced drama, action, humour and romance. I have got to say this one delighted on all fronts, it's wonderfully crafted characters took me on a journey that was not only enthralling, but it also squeezed my heart in all the right places! I completely devoured this book! From the moment I picked it up, I was completely hooked! I always look forward to reading a Wilde Ways book and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one. Or anything by this author. So go grab your copy today and fall in love with this spectacular series, just like I have. You won’t regret it, I promise. Happy reading everyone!

I have such mixed feelings about this book. All the right pieces were there to make it so good, but the whole book took place over the course of three, maybe four days so it felt insanely rushed for a book as long as this one. The couple meet four times in one day, and then suddenly they've got feelings and they're falling in love and all of that. Literally in a day. I wish they had been given more time to actually get to know eachother so it didn't feel so insta-lovey, because with how fast that happened it felt forced. They were pushed together so fast we didn't really get a chance to feel real chemistry between them. Also, the bad guy was so blatantly obvious from the beginning.

Despite all these issues, I still enjoyed the book, I just think it didn't live up to it's potential.

4.25 Stars for another high energy romantic suspense installment in the captivating Wilde Ways series. It’s agent Chase “Huh” Durant turn as the leading man.
Like all the other men of Wilde Protection and Securities, he is an alpha male that is loyal and possessive. He knows as an undercover agent, to be careful around a suspected traitor, but when her beautiful eyes captures his attention, his heart soon follows. Is Vivian really the villain?
As with the previous stories, this is action, sexy scenes, and the unexpected. This book has the most intense incident of the series, and certainly had my heart rate up. This books introduces new characters and only Eric and Layla are from the old team. Appearances from fan favorites would have enhanced the storyline line, as I missed the gang.

This was funny. I liked Chase and I loved Vivian. Their dynamic was good. It all happened way too fast (it was love at first sight) but I enjoyed the plot and the characters. The plot was fairly obvious but it moved along at a fast clip and had enough complications to keep me interested. Dex was awesome and I can't wait to read his story. Personal enjoyment for this would be 4 stars, but I'd say it's only about a 3 star rating in terms of quality.

Chase and Vivian are perfect together. This story was “lighter” than some of the previous books in the series. But it was no less dramatic.

One of the things I like about these stories, is the honestly between the couples that is written into every story. Yes, there can be some subterfuge both half way through, all bets are off and the two main characters are in sync. They just have to survive to have a HEA.

Lots of betrayal was uncovered in this one and hopefully the Wilde Agency can recover.

I read the series out of order, this was my least favorite of them all! Chase is a great undercover security agent. So when the bad guys break into the first safe house chase knocks him unconscious and notices he has drugs handcuffs and a knife then leaves him on the floor to go to Viv. Now explain why Chase didnt use the handcuffs on him and remove the mask? Without giving away the rest of the twists and turns. I am very disappointed in the way Wilde Security is portrayed in this book.

I liked these two and I’m a little sad about the traitor. Yes I knew who it was. As usual. These books are a bit of a cozy mystery. Never read it for the mystery since I can always guess!
Anyway I enjoyed the romance and I like both characters. I just wish our female MC wasn’t yet another red head. Agh. Why are they always hot red heads. Just the usual complains from me for any FM romance these days.

Love Cynthia Eden's books! Great Romantic Suspense. Wilde Ways security expert Chase is hired to find out what Vivian CIA agent has hidden. The book starts off with them living in the same apartment building. However someone else is after Vivian and Chase has this desire to protect her.

I loved this book and can't wait for Luc's story!
