Unintended Target by Katie Reus
2nd of 3 novellas from the MacArthur Family series. Romance with a touch of suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Patience agrees to be a nanny for the summer during her teaching break. Brodie takes his job as head of security seriously but blunders with a background check on Patience. As the attraction between the two grows, so does the mystery of why so many nannies prior to Patience left without notice.

Fast moving novella with quick attraction and lite suspense. Easy to read and lovely romance. Brodie is a protective male while Patience knows how best to protect herself and the child. Enjoyable with a gratifying epilogue the really cinches the whole story.
I’m looking forward to reading the third sibling in this trilogy.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. As a favorite author, I’ve also purchased a copy to share.

This was one of those reads that you get to just sit back and chill with. Nothing too incredibly heavy or dramatic, light on the angst, but perfect on the romance.

Patience was a heroine I liked immediately. As this is written primarily from her point of view, it was easy to connect with her. When Brodie confronts her at one point, she didn’t hesitate to let him have it, and I love that she was confident enough to do so in the face of a man many would find intimidating.

While we didn’t get a lot of Brodie, there was enough there to understand that he liked what he saw in Patience. He’s definitely got that protective alpha hero vibe going which is always a win in my opinion. Watching him pay the price after making a colossal mistake was pretty fun.

Although this was not heavy in drama, it still had plenty of mystery and suspense driving the story forward. The chemistry between Patience and Brodie was clearly evident, but their relationship really didn’t have enough time or opportunity to take off until the end. This is a fast, short read perfect for a quick break or something between longer reads.

This is a cute little romance.

Patience is a teacher looking forward to summer break. Unfortunately her mother has other plans and convinces her to help out a family friend. So now she’s spending her summer working as a nanny.

Brodie is head of security for Trevor Robinson a man who’s just lost his brother and sister-in-law. Trevor had taken on the care of their nine month old son Oliver.

Trevor is rich, his house is luxurious and Oliver is a little cutie. So why can’t he keep a nanny?
Every nanny he’s hired has left and none will say why. Trevor is desperate.

Sparks fly between Patience and Brodie but he’s suspicious of her. He’s suspicious of everyone.

I really enjoyed this and I’m really looking forward to Sienna’s book next.

I found this to be a cute story even with the side of danger. That’s mainly due to Patience. She was a sweet heroine who steps into help a family friend, as a nanny, while they try to figure out why all the previous nannies quit. I was just as baffled as they were until a few pieces of the puzzle started to come together.

Our hero Brodie was a bit more intense. He’s head of security for the guy Patience is helping and they have an instant connection. However, Brodie has a pretty suspicion nature and almost messes up his chance with her. I did like how he made up for it though.

This was on the shorter side, but fleshed out enough to feel like a full book. I enjoyed the storyline and especially this couple!

It's brother Brodie's turn for a HEA. Patience meets him and likes him, and then he does a bone head thing. They meet again, and he has to work for her to give him another chance. I sure didn't see that person as the bad guy. There's only a one sentence mention of the previous couple. I hope Trevor gets a book too, but I think sister Sienna is up next.

Unintended Target by Katie Reus is a short, lighthearted, yet thrilling romantic suspense novella.

Patience, our heroine is an elementary school teacher who is looking forward to enjoying her whole summer off. She has plans to enjoy herself and travel a bit. Just as soon as she’s starting to get comfortable with the idea of having the entire summer off, her mom calls with an update about Trevor, a family friend who recently became a guardian to his baby nephew Oliver. Her mom ends up guilt tripping her big time into helping Trevor out.

Patience used to have experience with children as a nanny before she became a teacher, so her mom convinced her to take the temporary position as Trevor’s nanny. Patience meets Trevor and all went well. Then she meets his tall, dark, smoking hot head of security Brodie, our hero.

Brodie is cold towards Patience at first, but he has good reason. Through a series of lies, twists, and turns, Brodie finds out who he can really trust. Our hero Brodie is a strong confident man, yet down to earth and treats a woman with respect. I adored Patience and her ability to stand up for herself regardless of the circumstances. I was proud of Brodie and his ability to accept responsibility when due. He is a stand-up guy, smart and his job makes him that much hotter. Patience is definitely impressed.

Though Unintended Target is the second book in the MacArthur Family Series, it isn’t pertinent that you read the first book in order to understand this one. I didn’t.

Although short, this novella was thrilling, suspenseful as well as SO romantic. We are privy to a cute story about two people who have a true connection with each other. I loved how realistic the characters were portrayed, flaws and all.

I would recommend this book as well as read more by this author in the future. In fact, I would love to read the entire MacArthur Family Series. I love an interconnected series of standalone novels surrounding a family! This is right up my alley.

I received an ARC by NetGalley and am providing my honest review.

Patience is a teacher on summer break. Her plans include a whole lot of relaxing and then some more relaxing, but when family friends ask her to babysit a little boy she cannot bring herself to say no. Brodie is head of security for Patience's employer. And these two do not start on the right foot. Then Patience gets poisoned and Brodie suspects that it wasn't an accident.
I enjoyed this one a bit less than the first novella. The heroes of the first one, Kathryn and Daniel, Brodie's brother, already had an established connection and it was a second chance romance. The feelings were there already, they just needed to clear out some misunderstandings. Here though, Patience and Brodie really don't have the best of beginnings. And it was all his fault. I mean, he makes up for it but I felt like after it the romance developed really fast, too fast. I think there was a clear lack of common ground between them, other than the attraction that they feel. They exchanged texts but we never got to see them, so I don't even know what they talked about if they even had anything to talk about.
Still, it was a nice quick read that I definitely enjoyed. Also, can't wait to read about Sienna.

Will they settle their different to give their attractant chance ...

Wow, I devoured it in no time.
I loved Brodie and Patience. She is kind and caring yet takes no prisoner.
She faces challenges and bullies her head held high, and does not shy away of danger if she is confronted to it.
Brodie is by his job an alpha guy, hyper protective and domineering, yet he does not play game with women.
Their story is cute and sweet, they meet, then meet again but circumstances are different until they get close.
With a dash of danger, do not deny yourself a good read, it is fast paced with a bit of action, two charming heroes and some steam.

3.75 stars--UNINTENDED TARGET is the second instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult MACARTHUR FAMILY romantic suspense novella series. This is security specialist Brodie MacArthur, and kindergarten teacher Patience Carras’ story line. UNINTENDED TARGET can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Patience and Brodie) UNINTENDED TARGET follows the quick building romance and relationship between security specialist Brodie MacArthur and kindergarten teacher Patience Carras. Patience Carras was looking forward to the summer off but a call from her mother found Patience working as a nanny for Trevor, a family friend whose previous five nannies had all quit unexpectedly. Meeting the on-site security specialist Brodie MacArthur stirred something deep within our story line heroine but Brodie crossed a line as it pertained to an event in our heroine’s past, an event that has left its’ mark on her heart and her soul. Security is tight around Patience’s new employer leaving our heroine the latest target. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Brodie and Patience, and the potential fall-out as the threats to Trevor have been transferred as threats to our story line heroine.

UNINTENDED TARGET is a fast paced and intriguing story line. The premise is edgy; the romance is captivating; the characters are animated and spirited. As per many novella length stories, the conflict resolution is quick-I was hoping for a little more build up of suspense and mystery.

Unintended Target by Katie Reus is a short, fast-paced, engaging romantic suspense novella. This is This is security specialist Brodie MacArthur, and kindergarten teacher Patience Carras’ story. Patience is a teacher and was due to have a summer break but she got a call from her mom, who is friends with Trevor Robinson mom. He was needing a nanny for his nephew due to being without one suddenly. So Patience offered to help out temporarily. Brodie is Trevor's head of security and the sparks fly between them. They start off on the wrong spot but get on the same page and soon the sparks fly. Suddenly Patience finds that she’s beset by food poisoning, hit and run...who is out to hurt Patience? Is this related to Brodie's boss Trevor's business or is someone else now out to hurt Patience? The story is gripping, entertaining and full of twists, turns, suspense intensity, action and romance . Can't wait for book 3 in this novella series.

Patience agrees to help Trevor out and be his nanny for a short time. Brodie is Trevor’s head of security and suspicious of everyone. These two clash right away. As the title suggests, Patience gets caught up in someone’s plot. Brodie does all that he can to watch over Patience and love comes about as a result. Steamy and lots of action and suspense.

Patience is a kindergarten teacher on summer break. Her plans involve a pool, some snorkeling, and lots of margaritas. Until her mom calls begging a favor. A friend of the family needs a nanny. He's just taken over custody of his baby nephew after the baby's parents died. The man's nannies keep quitting and none of them will say why. Patience has known him since they were kids, so she of course says yes, but only for the summer. She has a job she loves and she isn't quitting.

But the head of security Brodie MacArthur hasn't been able to do a background check on Patience and it's bothering him that his boss and friend just let her waltz in and take over with the baby. Especially as there have been some credible threats against him. But Patience isn't what he expected, and pretty soon it looks like she might be the next target...and the next nanny to quit.

I loved these two together. There's a scene where Brodie needs to apologize, and he does, and it's a good apology. I love when a character can act like a grown up, and a man who can apologize and then do better is sexy.

These novella-length Romantic Suspense stories Ms. Reus writes really work for me. I hope she writes more down the road. I'm pretty sure the next book is the end of this series. The chemistry is hot, the hero is protective, and the heroine stands up for herself. This story is perfect for when you want something short, sexy, and suspenseful.

Ms. Reus writes sexy and suspenseful stories that keep you engaged and intrigued until the last page is read.

Unintended Target is the 2nd book in the MacArthur Family series by Katie Reus. I will say this one has a decidedly different storyline feel than Falling for Irish, but I still really enjoyed it.

Patience has some very definite plans for herself over summer break which included some serious beach and pool time with margaritas and definitely nothing to do with students, or teaching, or even really any responsibility at all. But her plans take a definite nosedive when her mother talks her into helping out an old friend that is in need. She agrees to a temporary nanny position for the summer or until he can find more permanent help. The last thing she needs after having to cancel her plans is a very pushy head of security, that has no right to look so darn hot while scowling at her and asking way too many personal questions. Just as Patience and the scowly security chief, Brodie, find common and firey ground, it comes clear that something is definitely wrong at her friend's home.

I do love a quick, low-risk, fun, and steamy read. This was just what the doctor ordered. The push-pull between the characters was on point. (Just as I've come to expect from our illustrious author.) I loved the little mystery aspect and the fast pace.

I am seriously loving this series and can't wait for the last in the series!!

Patience is a elementary teacher. She loves her kids but is glad for her summer break. Now she can kick back and relax. Her plans are disrupted when her mother asks her to be a nanny for a family friend. Trevor is in a bind. He's had several nannies quit with no notice. Why? The baby is so sweet. Unfortunately the head of security is another matter. Brodie accused her of lying on her resume. Patience won't take his treatment and gives her notice. After he realizes his mistake, she agrees to stay and they act on their attraction. As their romance grows, so does the danger to Patience. Someone wants her gone and will go to any length to accomplish that goal. I wondered what their plan was. I was relieved that Brodie was there to protect her and the baby. I enjoyed this romantic suspense novella. Patience is a strong character. She has sass and spunk. Brodie is a powerful hero. He's her protector. I enjoyed Unintended Target. It was action packed and had a satisfying romance. Katie Reus kept me entertained.

Brodie MacArtthur is a security guy for Trevor, a wealthy businessman who has recently acquired custody of his nephew when his brother and his wife were killed in a helicopter crash. Trevor has hired nannies to help him with the 10-month-old, but they keep quitting on him. He's hiring through a reputable agency, he pays them well, and treats them kindly, so he can't figure out why they're quitting. In desperation, he hires Patience, a kindergarten teacher that's off for the summer.

Patience has plans for the summer that don't include taking care of a little boy, but takes pity on Trevor and takes the job on a temporary basis. What she isn't counting on is Brodie MacArthur.

To her, Brodie is seriously sexy and she's having all sorts of improper thoughts about him. But he's also serious about his job. To say anymore would mean spoilers and I don't want to ruin this story for anybody else.

This is a short book. I had it read in just a few hours. There's tension between Brodie and Patience and some steamy moments. There's intrigue and subterfuge that wound up for a good ending.

A quick read novella that will give you some angst, suspense, and romance. I had an easy time connecting with Patience, a kindergarten teacher, who celebrates her first day of summer with a margarita by the pool. Only to have her lofty summer plans upended to do a favor for her mom. Her temporary summer gig takes her to the home of a family friend in need of a nanny. She quickly butts heads with the head of security, Brodie. Brodie needs to fix the situation quick. The two have a connection, and once Brodie reveals his true self, more than a friendship forms. There is a bad person lurking, will Brodie figure it out in time?

I do enjoy Katie Reus’s stories, even though I’m not a fan of writing in the third person, it does work well with these stories. There’s always a little drama, suspense and of course romance. Plus, Unintended Target has the added benefit of a grumpy, super sexy bodyguard, Brodie, who it seems doesn’t trust anyone, not even sweet nanny, Patience. Even though she’s sweet and gentle she has a fierce protective side, and Brodie soon discovers she’s no wallflower. The attraction’s real, and so is the threat. A quick enjoyable read. She’s an Unintended Target🎯

Patience is a kindergarten teacher and on holiday, when her mom calls her for a favour. She agrees and starts a nanny job looking after Oliver. Unfortunately, some weird events take place which Brodie, Trevor’s Head of Security starts to suspect is an inside job especially since him and Patience have started seeing each other😳

Unintended Target, Book 2 of the MacArthur Family series, was about Patience Carras, an elementary school teacher, and Brodie MacArthur, the middle MacArthur sibling and the head of security for her temporary employer.
With school being out for summer vacation, Patience was looking forward to spending some time with her friends and throwing back some Margaritas. Unfortunately, her mother threw a monkey wrench into the middle of her plans as she had volunteered her daughter to be a nanny for Trevor, a family friend who had been having trouble keeping nannies for some strange reason.
Before heading to her temporary job, Patience went clubbing with friends and met a handsome stranger at a taco stand that was out in front of the club. They exchanged a few pleasantries, but no names or personal information, then went their separate ways.
After checking in with her new employer, someone she had known for a long time and whose mother was friends with her own mother, she began her nanny duties. After a week of working, she went to catch her boss up on the day's events, only to find the man from the taco stand in her boss' office. Brodie was apparently the head of Trevor's security team.
Unfortunately, Trevor had hired Patience without Brodie's approval, and although he told him to NOT do a background check on her, he did it anyway. When he found something he didn't like, he confronted her with it, only for her to shut him down and tell him what REALLY happened...and quit on the spot. When Brodie told Trevor how badly he screwed up with Patience, the man wasn't happy and told him to fix it.
The entire story took place in less than two months, but it was so full of action (not the bedroom kind, although it was there too) and suspense that it felt longer at times. The only thing that was wrong with the book was the fact it was so short that it felt rushed.
Both of the main characters were fully developed, fleshed out, and mature. They both needed a bit of growth, and the author showed that in the story. It would have been nice for them to have more time together for their relationship to develop but unfortunately, the author focused more on the mystery than the romance. Because it felt incomplete, I could only give it a three-star rating.
