Love & Tragedy

Rate this book
Celeste Morgan Growing up, my older brother was best friends with the Michaels brothers. The youngest of the two instantly stole my heart. Since then, Greyson has tried avoiding the inevitable. On the other hand, I've been sending signals that seem to go unnoticed. But I have it bad for him and can't seem to shake an addiction to a guy that's overflowing with drama. Yet life can be ironic... When I eventually set out to become a lawyer, I never expect to be forced into working for Russian criminals or be on a suicide mission to avenge my teenager cousin after she is abducted by sex traffickers and tossed into a swamp more than 2,000 miles away. And just like that, my story starts aligning with Greyson's. We've been pushing the limits on a "thing" that can't EVER happen. Not only has he made a promise we both know he can't keep forever, Greyson is known to move in a crime infested circle and NOT the ideal man for a future lawyer in the DA's office. But suddenly, I'm drowning and can't find an easy way out. So all that's left is to let go and ride out the love & tragedy...

WOW – what a wonderful and exciting story!!! Janice Ross has written an amazing book to start this romantic suspense series!!!

Madison Shay starts out by going out for drinks with her cousin Quinn. They end up at a new bar for Madison, where she is worried about Quinn. She temporarily loses site of her in the bar – and finds her surrounded by numerous strange men. Without Madison knowing, Quinn comes back to NY and goes to the bar again. But as a result, Quinn goes missing and is later killed. Madison sets her mind to the fact that she needs to find out who killed Quinn and to get revenge. Caleb Michaels (a childhood friend) comes to town and re-sparks the love between him and Madison. I don’t write spoilers – so you just have to read the book to find out exactly what happens. And believe me, it is nothing like what you will expect!!!

I can hardly wait for the next book in this series!! And awesome book that is a really easy read.

"Love & Tragedy" by Janice Ross

My Thoughts....

What a good read of 'love, deceit and loss! I enjoyed this suspenseful story because it kept you on the edge of your seat till the very end and only to find that this is a cliffhanger. At times I felt sorry for Madison Shay because it seemed like she felt that there was no one she could trust with what all had gone on with her cousin. With Madison not wanting to burden Caleb Michael [childhood friend] due to all he was going through she went through a lots from her own family and let me not leave out Caleb's brother Brandon. Will Madison be able to get the one that had killed her cousin Quinn? Why was there a forbidden love between Madison and Caleb that Brandon and others tried to stop? There will be a lots going on in this read before we get to the end and then we will have to wait for the next book to find out what is coming next. Will Madison and Caleb finally get their revenge on a certain person? Well, to find out you will have to pick up "Love & Tragedy" and see how well written this author presents this story to the reader.

Since this is an older book that the author redid recently so I’ll say this about what I’ve seen on the redone version first.. only the main characters got a revised names and characters Personalities Is different but everyone else is the same.
Now to this older version.... ending just cuts off, spelling and grammar problems, we could be reading about how Maddie and Caleb and in bed fooling around then a second later he’s walking towards the futon.... this will happen in many places where the story isn’t flowing but snagging on it’s self. The hot shot cop big brother of Caleb’s is dirty to the pits of hell he Manipulates street cops, his parents, Maddie’s family, his bosses, the DA’s probably even has judges in his pockets, but his with the
Russians being paid millions to help them screw, dope up and ship young girls over seas, including his best friend’s Adam cousin Quinn, who Maddie is avenging her death and taking down her killers. Brandan is so messed up, he even tries to attempt to force himself on Maddie every chance he gets and knowing Caleb can’t help since he has his ‘boss’ trying to get Celeb to screw her, which he would do now since claiming Maddie.... that claiming made Brandan more ruthless with Maddie because of some crap the brothers did as young 20 something men and Caleb won over his brother by getting to maim the boss’ daughter before Brandan, but then big brother got little brother serve in jail. It’s all messed up!

I really enjoyed this book. What I enjoyed most about it was the passionate display of love shown by the two main characters. It was like that desperate, I cannot breathe without you now that I have you kind of love and it just jumped off the pages. Caleb and Madison have known each other their entire lives, he's her brother's best friend. But Caleb seemingly goes down a dark path and enters the underground criminal world, making him bad news for Madison to be in a relationship. That does not stop her unwaivering love for him that goes years and years without ever being acted upon or acknowledged, but finally, at the beginning of the book, neither of them can deny what it is between them. In the meantime, there's all this drama going on with the murder of Madison's beloved cousin, Quinn, tied to the Russian mafia. Madison is a recent law school graduate, about to sit for the bar exam and at the same time is seeking to avenge her dear cousin's death, but gets caught up in more than she can chew. Caleb wants to protect what is his: Madison. However, this girl is stubborn AF and gets herself in a few binds lol It's fun to read how the story unfolds but we are left with a cliffhanger and of course, the complication of Caleb, so-called good cop, Brenden. I am not sure how to read that guy, but he terrorizes Madison. Anyway, the adventure continues in book 2.

Brotherly love ❤️

This was a hard book to read. I kept on putting it down and then would get snatched in again. When I finished it, I couldn’t wait to get the next book in the series. Where is it?

There is no love among these two brothers...Caleb bad boy ex-con and Brendan equally bad police detective. Wait there is ❤️ and it’s between one woman Madison Shay. Madison is the younger sister of their best friend therefore off limits to both. Maddie or Madison has her say in who she wants and gets. Maddie puts her life on the line to find the killer of her murdered cousin Quinn. Great mystery, suspense and sex!

Janice has written a great story about love and overcoming challenges for Caleb and Madison. They grew up together and had been in love from a very young age but due to Caleb being best friends with Brendon, Madison’s brother, they were the “forbidden “ love. This is one of the best books I’ve read and I’m looking forward to reading the next one as the story continues. I reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I like it!

I have been flirting with Janice Ross's books, but had the chance to read them;that was my first and sure like it, I absolutely love Caleb, how can't you not!? He is so misunderstood by everyone except his beloved Maddie, I'm hoping he will find his High place in society where he can truly excelled and find his true calling, with his Maddie.
As for his brother, karma is a bitch!! Mr Jacobs wait for your faith...

It was difficult to get through this book for a couple of reasons. The storyline, while there, seemed to be jumbled in telling the differing points of view and how they went back and forth. The relationship seemed to be a little flat, even with the sex scenes. I found myself pushing through to see if Brendan finally got what was coming to him, but that is in the next book. Fair read, but not for everyone.

Tragic

I really wanted to like this book. I felt as if I started in the middle of the story and can not make sense of what's going on. I tried to finish but it was just a jumble of confusion. Caleb, Greyson, Madison, Celeste...Sorry, MS. Ross!

A lot of story

The Michaels brothers story had so many different story lines. Two crooked brothers or just one? Who's really working with the Russians? Lots of stuff to digest. Is Celeste a pawn or the prize?

Well I don’t know if I got a fake copy as I had the same synopsis but the protagonists were Celeste and Greyson. The book was all over the place and made zero sense.

Whew

I don't think I have ever given a book this low of a rating. It was just all over the place. I have never read a book that had a low play on words. I just had to stop.

I loved this book! Madison was a strong, independent woman, and she knew it. She also knew her worth and wasn't going to settle for anything less. While some of her antics made me crazy and I wanted to scream at her, I understood where she was coming from. Caleb was so attractive. I would have had a hard time being with him, though, because I like verbal communication and he is a little stunted in that--rightly so, but thankfully being with Madison is helping him with that. His back story is absolutely heart breaking, but it makes who he has become that much sweeter. Madison and Caleb together after fighting basically their entire lives to fight their love for one another, was absolutely beautiful and I sighed in relief when it finally happened. I sat there wanting to murder Brendan, Naila, and Jacobs while seething at everything they did to Madison and Caleb. My heart broke for Quinn and the trafficked girls. I couldn't let it go, even when I had to Adult and the book was closed. I felt so torn up after finishing this book, I had to lie in bed staring at the ceiling for hours. I hated how it ended so abruptly, but it made me want the next book NOW. I am definitely going to have to add the sequel to my TBR!
