History has been made !

This is the first time I'd been eagerly awaiting a novel by Louise Fuller. 😂😂😂

It's a nice story, that kept me engaged for the duration. But although it didn't quite live up to my extra high expectations, it has placed Louise Fuller on my future radar again.

Last month, my favourite novel had been A Baby to Bind His Innocent. It was the first in a duet that deals with a pair of brothers who are determined to get retribution for the wrongs done to their late father.

In this, the second novel of THE SICILIAN MARRIAGE PACT duet, the older Trapani brother, Vincenzu, ladles the full force of the his magnetic charm on Imma Bruscetta - older sister of Claudia, the lovable heroine from A Baby to Bind His Innocent.

Imma is the *smart* sister; the one with business acumen, who's been put in charge of the Trapani family's former olive oil company and estate. Both love stories in this duet, play out on parallel time lines, even though the books are written by different authors.

This is the heroine, Imma:

Vincenzu is the playboy; the happy go lucky, party animal with a long history of screw ups. In the latter instance, he's unlike the conventional HPlandia H, because he's had to ask his late daddy for a few financial bailouts.

He's also kinda self pitying and in awe of his younger brother's tenacity and success; as a businessman and in other areas of life. He's a successful hotel owner, but it seems that the area where he's totally accomplished and confident, is with the ladies.

This is the H, Vincenzu:

MY MIXED REFLECTIONS

📍I liked Imma, but she seemed a little too desperate and easy. Vincenzu didn't even have to try hard, to orchestrate a plan, because she made it all happen too easily.

📍She organised for them to sneak away in her father's helicopter and go to her family's hideaway on Pantelleria Island. Later on, she used her dad's private jet to fly them somewhere else.

📍This made me laugh a little, because her dad's a bullying control freak. How then, was she able to do all this, when her dad's supposed to have guards and henchmen looking out for his interests ? Why did the helicopter and private jet pilots just follow her orders, knowing that she's probably not supposed to be jaunting off with an infamous playboy ?

📍Imma literally offered herself up to the H, like a double serving of black forest ice cream. I really wish he'd had to work for it a little more.

📍There really wasn't any revenge in this story and I didn't feel that Imma was as emotionally traumatised, by Vincenzu's betrayal, as her sister had been in the first novel. Maybe it's because Claudia had already been in love with Ciro; whereas Imma had only planned to hook up with Vincenzu, so she could lose her virginity.

📍Cesare, the bullying asshole, got no comeuppance and I found it hard to believe that he ended up going along with his daughter's ultimatum that he either changes his ways or be disowned.

📍The H didn't have to work very hard to get back into the heroine's good books. Her traitorous body syndrome made it all too easy. In fact, these MC's spent a significant amount of time living it up, partying and having sex. Their final conflict, towards the end, wasn't even very momentous.

📍I hate saying this, but these 2 didn't seem like MC's; I couldn't escape the notion that they were supporting characters whose relationship should've been a minor storyline in Ciro and Claudia's novel. They were likable and gorgeous, but they just weren't that impressive and I found it a bit difficult connecting with them.

📍Lust and sex, seemed to be the key that linked these 2, for the greater part of the story.

📍The pacing, though a bit slow at first, did pick up in the second half of the story. However, more focus was placed on the stuff they did rather than on their emotional progression from lust to love.

📍It was great to see Vincenzu give up his hotel and concentrate his attention on the olive estate, since that's his true calling in life and his father's legacy gets to live on. Plus they're elated, in the epilogue, to be expecting their own child. It would've been awesome, to see an epilogue, set further into the future.

If I seem too fussy, it's probably due to the fact that A Baby to Bind His Innocent had been so good, that my expectations, for this novel, were elevated. I've even tried hard not to be a horrendous bitchy reviewer, by asking myself:

If this novel was unrelated to any other story, would my final assessment be different ?

Possibly, because I wouldn't have always been comparing these MC's to Claudia and Ciro and finding them lacking. And, if I could've formed a greater emotional connection to these MC's, this would've been a 4 star novel.

Safety: No OW, no OM and both MC's are celibate during their 5 week separation.

DNF

I don't usually DNF Harlequins so this was a surprise.

I really liked the first book, but this was painfully boring and there this heroine is described as the smart and strong sister but guess what? she was a dumb.

This was an okay read. I really liked the Sister's story more.

This author is one that I hope continues to grow in her writing.

I needed more emotion and depth in the relationship.

Seems that I'm in agreement with my goodreads friends on this one.

Not as good as the first

This one was slower than the first book.Vice was an odd hero. He wasn't as macho but he wasn't meek either. He had a lot of internal .
Musings and daddy issues. I think they were good for one another. He did annoy me when he was so mean to her when she told him she loved him. Plus he waited five weeks before he went after her. I hated the whole revenge thing too. This one wasn't as intense as the first either.

The revenge saga part two.

Since I was warned that the revenge was discovered and fizzed out within the first chapters and that there was a giant leap over the plot hole of why marry at all? I was able to settle in and enjoy a nice marriage of convenience story.

It was nice because they both wanted their relationship to work. They apologized when they hurt each other and were kind the rest of the time. Hero took longer to figure out his feelings for the blink-and-you'll -miss-it black moment.

Heroine was a virgin and a daddy's girl. Hero had guilt about being a hotelier and not an olive grower, so he wanted revenge for his father's bankruptcy and death.

Ivy has all the details in her review.

"The Terms of the Sicilian's Marriage" is the story of Imma and Vicenzu.

The second installment of this series talks about the revenge tale between the older siblings. She is the mastermind businesswoman who has grown up taking care of her sister, and being the son her father did not have. He plans to use her in his revenge plot.
A kiss at their siblings' wedding leads to a one night stand, truth revelation, a marriage of convenience filled with loads of drama, confessions and HEA.

It wasn't as good as book 1 but not bad. The conflicts were resolved too quickly, and I didnt like that his pulse raced when OW propositioned him.

Safe

It wouldn't be fairy to give a 3 if this was "less" than Book #1.
I loved both characters (however, funnily, I felt the Hero was a bit 'weak'?). He was slapped two times by the heroine and allowed it?
Anyways, the couple's interaction was a bit mundane in the beginning but since I used an e reader, it was okay.
So so story.

I like Louise Fuller’s books but this is not one of her best. It’s a perfectly okay read and goes well with the first book: the story of Claudia and Ciro.

Two brothers seeking vengeance and using 2 sisters - the daughters of the villain Cesare - to obtain their satisfaction. The basic plot line is flawed but never mind, it works Overall and the development of the relationship between Vicenza and Imma is well done.

The first book in the duet was a lot better than this. There are super huge plot holes like forgetting to lock a phone! Considering every mobile phone built has an automatic lock that is engaged when its not in use for a few minutes, I have no idea what world the author is living in that she has never used a mobile. The first book alluded to strengths in Imma's character and her acumen but this book proves it all wrong as she really doesn't fulfill the potential that was alluded. Both H and h came across as fools with the H paying twice as much to h's dad to get back a business that was stole unscrupulously by h's dad! Seriously it was too much melodrama and completely lacking in economic sense.

This was what I was talking about in my book review that I did yesterday of what I was wanting from this particular storyline of the marriage of revenge plot line. This story had all things that I was expecting in the first book in this duet but didn’t deliver on. It had things and tropes that I absolutely loved and adored. It was just really fun and entertaining from the get go that immediately sucked me in. I had no issues whatsoever with getting into the story or the characters like I did with Ciro and Claudia’s story. This was such an improvement from yesterday’s story that it made it so easy to read.

What I found interesting about this story was the fact that it started with Claudia and Ciro’s wedding. I saw more of what took place during this book than I did in their own book, which kind of glossed over it and just jumped into them being married. I didn’t realize how romantic their wedding was, and how Ciro did act like the devoted groom as his plan to enact revenge on Claudia and Imma’s father. It was very enlightening. It gave me more of an idea and feel of why Claudia felt so betrayed by Ciro, and how badly that he fooled her because of how he treated her during the wedding of a very loving husband. Even though I know why Claudia felt so betrayed by him in the end, this gave me more a clear picture of far he went in his charade. I think I would have appreciated it more if it was in their book, not just this one.

But pertaining to this story, Ciro and Claudia’s wedding was where Vicenzu and Imma’s story began, and it was kind of delicious. Like Ciro, Vicenzu planned to enact his own revenge on Imma’s father through Imma by seducing her, marrying her, then getting his father’s business back that Imma’s father just bought. He went in full force by using his very charming, playful playboy persona that he was known for. And despite knowing his plans, I was charmed by him myself that I knew poor Imma didn’t stand a chance against him. The crazy part was that it wasn’t this over the top type charm that would make anyone roll their eyes at especially with is reputation. It was just enough that it really sucked you in. Plus it was a very playful, engaging and fun type of flirting without the arrogance to it. So, there were these great flirty banter scenes back and forth between Vincenzo and Imma that were really entertaining and fun. They made me laugh and feel good despite the fact that I knew what was coming on later on when Imma found out his motives in the end. It was very easy to see why and how Imma fell hook, line, and sinker through those interactions. It was spot on good. I loved those moments between the two of them.

It really didn’t take long for Imma to fall under his spell and immediately she invited him to her father’s private island, wanting to spend more time with him. Yes, she wanted him, but it was more than that. She just wanted him. What I thought was great that before they got intimate with one another, they developed a emotional connection with one another that was totally genuine despite the fact that he was seducing her for less that’s pure motives. It was still there. It made see that they could have a relationship outside of the bedroom as they got over the deception and really got to know each other with their whole hearts. It was there from the beginning, though not fully explored until later on. I really appreciated that connection was developed first before they went to bed together. The reason that I don’t like those one night stand/night trope in stories, which in the beginning Imma thought this was going to be, that the only focus of those types of stories is of the physical and lust side of the relationship between the two characters and nothing else and there’s no build up or anticipation or anything emotional that I like in a romance. But in this case, there was plenty of build up with them flirting at the wedding and having that charming and forth, and also that they developed some sort of emotional connection that was amazing and sold me on this whole one night stand thing. I just appreciate so much how it was handled in this story.

Then the first time scene between them came. Even though it was done with deception on his part, it was very beautiful, sweet, tender and passionate moment between the two of them. It was so much more than either of them could anticipate especially on his part. They already had this connection emotionally, but then it got compounded by the physical that it made it a very intensely passionate experience for both. They wanted to be closer to one another. They wanted to connected. They forgot everything outside of each other and just enjoyed each other to have this very fulfilling and meaningful experience that they both enjoyed throughly. I just loved how sweet he was with her and very gentle that I really appreciated. Another thing that I really appreciated about the scene was that it flipped back and forth between both Imma and Vicenzu’s point of view so I knew what was going on in each of their heads and what they were feeling as they had this incredible experience together. It showed just how deep they were with each other even though didn’t want to be for different reasons. It showed how special a moment it was for both of them.

Then came the point immediately after their incredible night together where Imma found out that Vicenzu played her and only wanted the his father’s business and not her. Fireworks of a different kind went off in that bedroom. There were a lot of heated words as they bounced back and forth between the two of them. It was so intense. So passionate. Just filled with so much emotion that it was like a sucker punch to the gut. They just had this crazy, heated argument between them as they spew accusations and beliefs they had about the other. It revealed how far this revenge plot went for him, and what he was willing to do to get it. He was not gentle about it. He was not kind. He was cruel at times. It made her feel like she wasn’t wanted and just being used by him, who she believed she could love and trust. It made her feel stupid and because of that she lashed right back at him and gave back. Boy, did she dish it out to make this scene even more intense and emotional.

This was what I was expecting Claudia’s confrontation in book one, instead of the calm and logical confrontation that she presented in book one to Ciro. I wanted to feel more heartbreak there, and I just didn’t get that in that book, but Imma more than made up for it. Her heartbreak as absolutely devastating that I felt in my soul and bones. It was so gut wrenching especially after her having this breathing taking and magical experience only to find out it was all a lie. Her pain just wafted off the pages and hit me straight in the heart, which was exactly what i wanted. It gave me those feels I was looking for. It hurt so, but hurt so good. I wanted wrecked just like Imma was wrecked, and I so was. It was so good. It was just the experience I was expecting and wanting considering the premise of this story. It did it for me.

As the story continued the banter continued between the two of them, though unlike their first meet this was more hostile and less playful, but still gave that feeling of playing off of each other. It just increased the tension between them. It upped the stakes between them as they were dealing with this insane chemistry they had for one another that didn’t dissipate after their one night together. If anything it increased between them, it just kept growing and growing. They kept fighting it and fighting it. It was so, so good. It was really fun to watch because it really became a cat and mouse game between them. It just really worked in this context. I loved seeing it on the page.

The turning point of the story was when Imma had a deeply personal, intimate emotional moment with Vicenzu where she just totally let her guard down and show her vulnerable side to him. This was when he started to understand her and start to see her in a different life. This was when he understood the damage he did with his betrayal. It became very clear to him that he was in the wrong, and what he had his brother were doing to avenge their father by using the daughters of the enemy just wasn’t fair to either one of them. As soon as he had that lightbulb moment, he immediately apologized to her for hurting her realizing the damage he did to her. And he apologized for hurting her multiple times in the book because he really got it and understood how much he hurt her by his actions. He was totally genuine about it. He wasn’t doing this as part of game or part of his revenge plot. He meant it with his whole heart. It was very clear that he felt remorse and guilt over what he did. I could feel it coming off of his pores. I really appreciated that because sometimes in a story I don’t know if the hero really got what he did wrong and why it hurt the heroine of what he did, or whether he was just saying sorry to say sorry to make her feel better. But with Vicenzu he got it, and I felt he got it. I loved that he had that revelation, and he did his best to make up for what he did by both with words and actions. It made my heart soar and made feel all warm and toasty inside. I was even more impressed and charmed with him than I was in the beginning when I was charmed by him. He had the perfect reaction in my opinion. I loved that about him especially after every apology he made to her.

After that, Vicenzu and Imma really connected and became very intimate in every way possible. Their love scene was very much about them coming together and basking in that closeness between them that they both had been craving after their first night together. It was a very emotional, intense and romantic moment between them. It showed how their connection was deepened and deepened. But it wasn’t only in the bedroom that they got closer, they had quite a few romantic moments going on throughout the story, which I loved seeing because there were these great little moments of affection between them whether it was a touch of the hand, back or even just holding hands. It was just the little things that happened that touched me the most. Also they really went to those great flirty moments that they had when they first met, which I thought it was so cute and adorable. I loved that they had that back and forth chemistry going on between them. I just loved seeing their relationship grown and develop over the course of the story. It was beautiful and amazing. I just loved them together. The were just great.

Overall I truly adored this story. It had everything I wanted and expected from this time of story line. It was intense. It was emotional. It was angsty as they butted heads after they got married. There were sweet moments between them. They had some great intimate moments together that weren’t just confined to the bedroom. There were painful moments. There gut wrenching moments. There were some heartbreaking moments. It gave me all the feels, and I loved it. It was just a great entertaining and emotional journey to go on. I was very invested in their story from word one. I fell hard into the story. His charm and whit sold me even though I knew he was doing a bad thing. Their flirty interactions were great. The chemistry was awesome between them. I loved the banter and the byplay. I loved how he apologized and groveled multiple times in the book not just the end which is typical Presents flair, and just how he got it and was very genuine in his remorse of his actions. Just so much great goodness in here that I could rave about for hours on end because it was that good and did it for me on many different levels. I can’t quite give it a five stars because I did feel like there was one plot point that didn’t make sense to me, which kind of was the whole point of why he decided to enact this revenge on her, but then that didn’t seem the case when he did what he did at the end so I had to take a half star off for that, but other than that I was amazed by it. I loved it. I will be rereading this one again and again because it was so, so good.

Highly recommend for lovers of angsty romances, heated romances, flirty banter, hot love scenes, gut wrenching moments, and satisfying grovels scenes from a very remorseful hero. So, good.

I was caught up in this story but agree with other reviewers that it is slow. There are all sorts of cues along the way that he is suffering yet the author doesn't use those to force a more compelling and emotional story.
