What is a man supposed to do when a beautiful woman steps off the bus and into the middle of his life, especially if she's his dead brother's wife?
Riley McMahon wants to fulfill her husband's last request to meet his family, but rather than the welcome she'd hoped for, Aidan is angry and forbidding. After she is confined to bed, Aidan goes out of his way to make Riley comfortable, and she must find a way to deal with the confusing man. Too bad she can't decide if she should scream at him or kiss him.
Betrayed by those closest to him, Aidan doesn't trust anyone, especially his brother's widow. Even though he's certain she wants to get her hands on his brother's money, it doesn't stop him from dreaming about the woman who drives him to distraction.
Will Aidan and Riley follow where their hearts lead or bury themselves in the cold, dark grave of the past?
"Aidan" has the makings of a good story. However, it has some issues. Aidan is constantly rude and distrustful of Riley and then all of a sudden decides he is in love with her.
This has the makings of a sweet romance...widowed pregnant young woman travels to meet in-laws she only saw/met briefly at her husband's funeral. Now she finds out his family is actually wealthy and has to deal with suspicion of being a gold digger. It was ok but I found a lot to frustrate me. First, I could see Riley's fear, anxiety and insecurity, but, while she spoke of her relationship with Sean and she is sad he is gone, I just didn't feel a huge loss coming from her. And almost from the start, she is checking out Aidan. Now Aidan is suspicious of Riley's motivation for coming to their home and suspects she is after Sean's inheritance. He is wondering why Sean never told any of his family that he got married and is having a child - even though Sean left home for the military on bad terms with him. And then the next chapter, he is having sexy dreams about Riley? He blows so hot and cold you could get whiplash. Then there is Sean - yes, he left angrily and never contacted home, but in Riley's memories, he kept saying he wanted to raise the child on the farm...wanted to go home...but always gave her some excuse or another when she wanted to go meet his family. And he never told her he had an inheritance...let them live scraping by? What's with all the "secrets"? And the parents aren't even mentioned until well into the story. She came to meet the in-laws...don't you think she would wonder why they weren't there? That being said, there is some mysterious goings on unfolding in the background to add to the drama. This does throw Aidan and Riley together more as they try to fight their growing feelings toward each other. You can see the characters begin to grow. It just seemed a bit light? basic? I would have liked a little more intensity. But it was still an ok entertaining read

Riley McMahon has come visit her husband Sean’s family as he had requested. He had been killed while deployed but he had wanted her to be a part of his family and let them be a part of the baby’s life. His older brother, Aiden, thinks she is nothing but a gold digger out to get whatever she can from them. So he does not treat her well. But eventually he finds out that he as wrong. Riley is also pregnant and he helps her through the pregnancy. Both of them are attracted to the other. But will they act on their feelings and become a family for Sean’s child? Or will they feel too awkward to pursue anything while his death is still so recent?
There is also a part of the story dealing with an arsonist who wants the land and is willing to do anything to get it. That piece just didn’t seem to fit the rest of the story, but I wanted to at least mention it as it puts the family at risk.
Six months after her husband Sean's death while on deployment, a pregnant Riley arrived in town to fulfill Sean's wishes to visit his family home for the first time. Riley had seen her in laws at the funeral but they hadn't spoken to her, hadn't even known about her until after Sean's death. Aidan has a mixture of feelings when he sees Riley for only the second time, the first time at the funeral he was shocked at his reaction of wanting a woman he thought of as a gold digger and now she's turned up with a baby bump!! This story follows two people who fight against their feelings, each feeling guilty about having those feelings.

This is a truly endearing story with characters dealing with strong emotions, enduring the pain of a loss of a loved one, and therefore a guarding of hearts, and an resulting in an opening of hearts and minds to wonderful opportunities. There is also drama woven throughout the plot with nefarious characters in plain sight. An amazing story, and a plot that keeps you enthralled all the way to the end. The characters are portrayed brilliantly, and the obstacles that they need to overcome are crafted wonderfully. Was love strong enough to put the past behind and look toward the future? Sweet, clean romance I truly enjoyed. I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.
A gentle and heartfelt story about a young widow, pregnant with her husband's child, who travels to meet his family for the first time. Jousting with his gruff and distrustful older brother brings out her strengths and sincerity, and some unexpected feelings for them both. As he protects her and helps her through a difficult pregnancy, they grieve their losses, and welcome new love into their lives. A respite from the stress and uncertain world around us. You can curl up on the couch with this one.
DANG! I LOVE THIS BOOK AND I FELT SORRY FOR RILEY. It was enough to lose her Ranger husband and days later find out that she was pregnant!! Sean's family was upset that he wasn't buried in the family's cemetery, but he wanted to be buried with his comrade's that was what she did, but he also wanted her to meet his family.... I liked Aidan who looked out for his family and his family's farm after his dad almo1st lost it. He was sure that Riley was a gold digger and married his deceased brother for his share of the farm.
Riley's husband Sean was killed while deployed so six months after his death she travels to visit his family and meets with his distrustful older brother Aiden. Once he realizes that she is a good person he helps her with her difficult pregnancy. Aiden and Riley are attracted to each other but can they build a relationship with each other considering the fact that he is her dead bushings brother.
This book has a lot of potential, but the writing felt choppy. For example there is a scene that ended in a chapter, but then it was brought up again in the beginning of the next chapter and played out differently. I just couldn’t get through it.
If you're gonna have a cover with a hot man then the book can't be a super slow burn with like 0% steam...the couple just kisses like, twice. That's just false advertising! There's a secondary plot that takes up a lot of the book for no reason. Not my favourite book.

An interesting plot spoiled by needing a good edit, errors and repeats. As a start to her series a revised edition would make all the difference and encourage readers go for the next book in SerIes. With no closure on the issue of the property developer is the reader to assume he is in the next book?
