The dragon misfits are the key to saving the dragons of Lorach but they must act before a stranger destroys them.
Jason has secured a tentative peace for Dragon Haven. With his control over illusion, and the Lorach threat thwarted for now, his time is spent preparing for the next attack, knowing the Dragon Souls will not be easily stopped.
An old ally to Dragon Haven returns, but Jason questions his motives—along with his techniques. Now Jason must choose whether to stop the Dragon Souls or save them.
Stopping Lorach for good might mean destroying the captured dragons. It’s a choice Jason fears to make, but doing otherwise means betraying those who have come to rely upon him.
First book was pretty good. Unfortunately, it’s just gotten worse with each book in this series. Dialogue is awful, repetitive, and stilted. Decisions get progressively worse. No clear leadership. Little time and attention paid to skill development until it’s in an emergency. Our hero just gives away important information to anyone and everyone he meets.
Seriously, who decides to go walking into an enemy stronghold without any information about who the enemy is?
Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by a lot of lucky finds this winter but this series is just awful.
So Lorach is out to find Dragon Haven and Jason piles on his illusions to keep the cruel and ambitious Princess Jessica away from the danger he feels he has drawn towards the haven. Then an old friend of the haven turns up, a person assumed dead for many years but Jason is not convinced this man, Lorren is an ally and when he finds out that he was the man who had trained Therin and who had in fact used the dragon eggs in his experiments and who had no qualms with killing not only dragon souls from Lorach but also their dragons Jason knew this was the dragons deadliest enemy and he had to choose who to take out first Lorach or Lorren. Both proved to be tough foes to battle but with the aid and powers his misfits entrusted him with he did his best to fight for what he had set out to do and that was to save as many dragons and free them from enslavement as possible. I would have loved to have seen more of the mist dragon, since this book was supposed to be about this new misfit but it hardly features at all. The same self doubts keep on taking place, but at least something good and exciting does happen in this book. Something so powerful that it might just be the only thing to defeat Lorach. I am dying to read book 6 especially if this is to be the final book in this series!
Another wonderful book. This one scared me a little. At one point I thought that one of the misfits was lost. I started to tear up as I continued reading. I was rewarded. The one I thought was lost - was Saved! Jason and the Misfits are doing great work. The next, and I think last, book in this series is: Night Dragon: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Dragon Misfits Book 6). Amazon Kindle tells me that it will be available Nov. 24th. I am looking forward to reading the Series Finally.
This book, just like the first 4 books, could have been so much better if the author had shortened some of the overly stretched and repetitive internal monologues of the main character. D.K. Holmberg's ideas behind the story is very interesting, but the execution is rather weak.
The SLOOOOOW progress and the seemingly constant internal monologues about ALWAYS THE SAME things is a major issue. It even is done during action scenes where it actually spoils the thrill.
Makes one wonder if he actually makes use of a proper editor.
I chose 3 for this vol. 5 because it repeated the series and itself repeatedly. So vague I had to make sure I was in the right paragraph. Turned out ok though as I am eagerly awaiting vol. 6 next month. Altogether it has kept me reading non-stop and I have Abercrombie's Trouble With Death sitting right here. Darn fine recommendation right there. Thank you, sir!
This series gets repetitive. Searching for another dragon as done before in the previous books. There was nothing new inserted into the narrative. Even the internal dialogue of the protagonist is much the same as the previous 3 books. If you like this familiarity of the storyline then certainly this book is for you. I don’t wish to undo the good work Holmberg has done on the previous books, but really this book feels like that is the only thing going for it.
This book had a much better balance of inner monologue and action. I still skimmed a little, but not nearly as much as previous books in this series.
There were some pieces that were repeated... my guess is the author either forgot they already mentioned it or if the editing process caused the confusion. There was also an instance where Jessica’s name was accidentally used in place of Sarah’s, but that’s pretty nit picky of me.
Goldberg's writing skills is evermore enhanced with each dragon sequel. I truly enjoy and respect the title character, Jason. In the first Dragon story he was very naive and untrusting of himself and others. I truly believe that the Misfit Dragons enabled him further as he became aware and learned more effect methods for using their individual powers. The evil Dragon Soul Lorren and Jason battled and Lorren appeared to lose or did he?
On to book 6. All 5 so far have not disappointed 😊 the books so far have flowed together very well, but now that I am on to the last, I can imagine a couple of scenarios leading to conclusion the least desirable be no conclusion at all. Hopefully book 6 will provide a satisfying end to the Dragon Misfits.
What a great imagination the Author has to think up all these different misfit dragons ! I'm eagerly awaiting the Night Dragon book. Thanks for letting us into Jason's World of Misfit Dragons.
This one was better than the previous entry and seemed to actually progress the character development. This felt like a short read but that might be because I was eager to get through it because it was such a good read.
Just finished book 5 of 6. I hardly can put these books down, reading 4-5 hours per day. What a great adventure these books are taking me on. Book 6, The Night Dragon, here I come.
The first half of this book were a waste of time, just unfocused, meaningless babble. Approximately the second half wasn’t, so, persistence was rewarded. Immersive and interesting, and well connected to the core concept of the rest of this story.
Jason continues to amaze himself and the readers. His connection with the dragons, especially the ‘Misfit’ ones continues to grow and strengthen. I’m like bing it. Need to get the next book.
This is by far the best of the series so far. It moved along from page one till the last page. I loved it. Looking forward to the next book except it's the last one of the series
Such a wonderful, well written book. I can't wait to read the final book of this series!D K has become one of my favorite authors. I am very pleased to recommend this series to all ages. I even read one of them to a five year old & she now wants a dragon of her own
Well, you just can't help but those dragons who don't quite fit in. I think many of us humans who never quite colored in the same lines as others can relate to Jason and his Dragon friends.
Love the author and this series of Dragon Misfits. So sad that I am on my last book! But I can’t wait to see what the ending entails for all the characters and especially the dragons.
Have loved the full series answer can't wait to read the final installment. The only negative I found is sometimes the chapters are quite long so I don't have time to read the next chapter....Highly recommend.
Entertaining What an imagination to be able to think up all these different dragons and to be able to have such interesting plots. Very enjoyable book. I am looking forward to the next book.
I like how D. K. Holmberg writes the stories and builds on each layer! Adding to each layer that you can not stop reading. Then the ending leaves you wanting more.
The book is repetitive and a lot of it is redundant. One of the things to note is the character William seems to change his backstory. The beginning in the book he has red hair somehow it changes to black in the first book. It was black. Also, the first book his mom and sister died, and his father started traveling and staying away longer until he just stopped coming back home. In this book, his mom and dad died in a fire confusing. Still is an OK read, that’s why I gave it two stars.
