Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
This Patricia Fisher Adventure Mystery is one of a 25 book series based around this protagonist. It is a fast-paced romp and a thoroughly enjoyable read. If you are looking for some lighthearted escapism, this is worth a try. Steve Higgs is a natural storyteller.
Steve has written a phenomenal number of books over a relatively short number of years. He claims that his first draft is also his last draft and many of his books have been written in the space of a month.
I love a Patricia Fisher mystery, they are good fun and are a quality read.
This spirited book had me laughing and piqued my imagination at the same time. I like a story that can grab my attention and this one certainly did. A Banshee immobilising his victim? A bookshop wrecking ghost? Where does the author think these fascinating stories up?
Patricia and her intrepid and highly skilled friends are on the case again in this amusing story. They have two juicy cases to unravel and a death threat hanging over Patricia's head. Things go round and round on one case but the other is way more serious. A wailing Banshee is attacking people and immobilising them, yet no one has a clue how he or she does it? The story is very well defined and the characters seem to be having a whale of a time. Then at other times, quite frankly, deeply in the s**t. Lots of tea is spilt and the gin is free flowing and that is what I like about these stories, the light hearted humorous scenes which flow so well into the dark, tense, sinister scenes, which then flow seamlessly back into humour.
Patricia is a fun character, in fact I love the complete cast of characters in these books full stop. With the authors flair for the unusual, this story catches the attention, along with the quirky and eccentric characters that get under your skin. Then it's all over barring the shouting as they say, because you might as well sit there and read on without stopping, because you know deep down that that is just what you want to do.
Patricia's life gets more dangerous by the minute.
Anna's puppies are going to their forever homes. Sam is taking Ringo. But Patricia can't part with little Georgie.
She has 2 strange cases. One is a "poltergeist" besieging Chris Foggarty's book store.
The other is a "Banshee" that paralyzes its victims with a high pitched "scream", takes a skin sample, and then robs them. Tempest and Big Ben are working with Patricia on this one.
Patricia and friends are invited to a gala in London, given by the Maharaja of Zangrabar.
The Godmother's assassins go after Patricia and her friends again, this time at Angelica's house, which gets all shot up-snicker!! Luckily P and her friends are ok.
Patricia decides she and her friends must go into hiding. After she solves her cases, and after the big soiree, of course.
The banshees of legend were said to incite terror but the latest run of burglaries and murders is being chalked up to a much worse spectre -- inducing paralysis!
It has struck in Patricia Fisher's home village of West Malling, Kent and seems intent on ruining a young couple's new business, mainly by making a huge middle-of-the-night mess. On its trail she and fellow sleuth Tempest Michaels, who's also got banshee-plagued clients, uncover even more nefarious messes as far away as London and France, involving medical laboratories and drugs trafficking. It's complete sonic devastation, and Barry White crooning love songs is the only cure!
Higgs keeps Patricia, and us, on our toes with this one. As an added bonus, there are puppies.
Very amusing little stories of an older, female detective who takes on some of the oddest cases. In one a bookshop owner is tormented by a midnight poltergeist who carefully removes the books from the shelves and lays them randomly on the floor. And at the same time, she takes on a case from an old friend who was visited by the banshee burglar—a burglar who paralyzes their victims with a loud scream while he removes random items from their house and also takes a plug of skin out of a single household members upper arm.
Yeah, some juggling is required. The books are very cozy in nature and in this one, I’m not sure a murder was ever committed. But there was a person who died mysteriously while undergoing a medical treatment—maybe that counts.
WHERE PATRICIA GOES, TROUBLE FOLLOWS. SHE IS CALLED UPON TO DISCOVER WHO IS WRECKING IT THE BOOKSHOP ON MANY NIGHTS. IT IS SAID TO BE HAUNTED. IS IT? EVEN WITH INFRA RED CAMERAS THEY CAN'T SEE THE CULPRIT. AND WHO IS THE BANSHEE BREAKING INTO HOMES AND STEALING POSSESSIONS BUT WORSE THAT THAT - PLUGS OF SKIN FROM ONLY ONE PERSON IN THE HOUSEHOLD - PARALYZED BY THE BANSHEE'S SCREAM. AND LET'S NOT FORGET PATRICIA'S EVIL FOE, THE GODMOTHER, WHO IS OUT TO KILL PATRICIA AND WON'T STOP UNTIL SHE DOES. THESE ARE DELIGHTFUL CHARACTERS AND A WONDERFUL STORY THAT WILL KEEP YOU WONDERING. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. GIVE TO ME AS A BETA READ. THIS IS MY HONEST OPINION.
Patricia is called in by a young couple who owns a bookstore to ferret out the ghost who tosses around their books every night after closing. Other merchants claim the store is haunted and has never held a tenant for long, but Patricia and Tempest, whose help she’s once again solicited, know better. As the ghost ramps up its action, Jermaine joins them in using a number of techniques to identify the person behind the mayhem, while accepting that she and her friends must flee their tormenter, the Godmother, by going home to where it all began.
Fun, frolicking and frothy, a Patricia Fisher Mystery is always entertaining and innovative. Our favorite characters make their appearance with everyone slipping into well-rehearsed teamwork. Meanwhile plots are thwarted, villains are outsmarted and a good time is had by all (the good guys at least). The only downside is how long I may have to wait until the next story is out. I may have to get my own mini dachshund to keep me company until the next sequel appears!
A Banshee and a Bookshop is the fourth book in the Patricia Fisher Mystery Adventures series and is an entertaining read.
Patricia and the gang have to find the truth behind a banshee at a bookshop while also trying to save Patricia from Godmother. This series is so much fun to read and this book is no exception. There is humour, mystery, darkness, danger, twists, and terrific characters.
I also loved the crossover with Tempest Michaels from the Blue Moon series. It's always enjoyable to have these two teams combine forces.
Patricia Fisher has another case to solve. Once again, she and Tempest Michaels pool their resources and their teams to solve the case. This book proves that Steve Higgs has another successful series underway. The characters are likable, caring and humorous and the storyline is well thought out with lots of twists and turns. Steve Higgs has become my favourite author and storyteller. I highly recommend that you read this book. It's a cozy mystery at it's best.
Exciting, fun, well plotted! I have read 16 Patricia Fisher mysteries and two of the Albert Smith’s adventures. I have the third one downloaded and eager to start on. All the characters are well developed and play their roles beautifully. Can’t choose a favorite! Eagerly awaiting what’s next for Patricia, Albert and , of course, Rex Harrison.
The Godmother is ratcheting up the war. A Banshee is attacking seemingly random people and a new bookshop has set up in a building that has been haunted for 150 years. The haunting was easily figured out, but there was a lot of guess work, along with research to unmask the Banshee. Patricia solves the cases just in time to go the the Maharaja's gala dinner in London. For the record: I don't trust David Sebastian. Is he in league with The Godmother?
Triple threat time! A haunted book store, a burglar who paralyzes his victims and the Godmother of crime. Patricia is worn to a frazzle and solves two of the three. In the process, she is attacked, arrested and all while trying to decide if she really wants to date the Lord Mayor. And oh yes, an old enemy from her childhood is trying to get her, too. More good reading from Mr. Higgs. Recommended.
Another great mystery. Another terrible performance from the narrator. The voices she uses for Jermaine and Barb in particular make them sound like idiots. It actually ruins the characters that they are. The constant pausing between words and the absolute ridiculous and improper emphasis on different words is awful.this would be a five out of five for the story and a one out of five for the narration. Zero out of five for the narration.
I did actually guess the one person in one plot who was doing the crimes. But the other plot was so very deep. Even being in medicine for fifty plus years. You did an awesome job of keeping me guessing right up to the end. But looking back now, it all makes sense. Doing charity work doesn't mean that things go your way all the time. Steve you are keeping this old lady doing nothing but reading your books. On to the next one. Linda Orrs, Ogden, Utah, USA
Patricia and Tempest with their crew are at it again. Teaming up again to solve a mystery with a banshee, poltergeist, bookstore, and don’t forget the Godmother. You will not be able to put it down, and just wait until the ending you will be clapping your hands begging for the adventures that await.
This is a fun mystery series that is based on a 53 year old woman who becomes a private investigator. This story includes characters from the Blue Moon series . The plot and subplots move quickly, making it hard to put the book down. Can't wait for Patricia's next adventure!
I was so wrapped up in this story that I actually screamed at a certain part. And then did it again in another part. There was laughter and some tears too. Mr. Higgs makes his characters and situations so "real", that you feel like you are right there with them. I hope there are many more books in this author's imagination.
Well worth five stars, plenty of action in this book. Patricia and friends join up with Tempest Michaels and Big Ben to solve the Banshee case. Then their is the matter of a haunted bookshop in and the Godmother causes chaos. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Action packed as usual in Mr. Higgs’ books. This one I found a little confusing and I was left with a couple of question marks but I’ll leave it up to you to read and work out. Written with facts, imagination and humour woven into the story it was an enjoyable read as always. Looking forward to Patricia Fisher’s next adventure with or without Tempest.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review
I enjoy Mr. Higgs books and admire the way he writes them so quickly. I just wish he wouldn’t try so hard with his character names taken from old TV shows and actors. His plots are well researched, clever and funny. Just stop chewing up the scenery as they say in acting.
Patricia and team have been hired to find a ghost in a bookshop. As she begins that investigation, an old friend calls wanting her to find the Banshee of whom the friend has become a victim. Patricia calls Tempest of Blue Moon Investigations and team up. Meanwhile, a bit squad is trying to annihilate Patricia. This is non stop action at its finest.
A criminal named the "banshee" is attacking people in their homes and paralyzing them with it's scream. Someone is stealing a plug of skin from its victims arms. The police believe it's a burglar but Patricia doesn't think so. Solving this case, the case of the haunted bookstore, along with trying to stay alive while the "Godmother" tries to kill her makes for an interesting read.
“The ability to solve a mystery brings the duty to do so” says Patricia, our heroine in this series.
The book is pretty much the same as the others, lots of dogs and gin and not too much blood or action. It’s an easy read that can be picked up and put down without forgetting the plot or characters.
As with the last ones no matter what series of Steve Higgs you can't put them down only because you want to know what trouble the characters are going to be getting in to next, I look forward to seeing what adventure Patricia, Barbie, Jermaine and all there friends get into .
Patricia Fisher gets involved in two mysteries one dealing with stem cells and the other a poltergeist in a bookstore. Join, Mrs Fisher, Jermaine, Barbie and their friends in gathering the clues to solve these two adventures. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't.
I have now read all the Patricia Fisher books, loved them all and have now started on the Blue Moon Investigation series. Can’t wait for the next Patricia Fisher book though - they are just great.
I have read the Patricia Fisher mysteries from the beginning to this book. They are seriously a lot of fun, puzzling and entertaining. No gore or profanity. This has become one of my favorite series. Keep up the awesome writing.
