Great information and wonderfully organized, but dreadfully boring in its delivery. Also some large grammatical errors, which is ironic for a communications textbook. Great for everyday career guidelines, not great for any deep problem solving.
Bad. Granted it was a textbook for a Business Writing class, but even for a textbook it was very bad. A whole lot of reading for very little information that you could actually use. The only useful section for me was the vey end where it discussed tips for preparing a better resume.
But then again, there do seem to be a number of students out there who think it is appropiate to write emails and blogs for school the same way they would text a friend. Seriously, LOL and lack of punctuation is not appropiate in a school assignment.
For a college textbook, this is surprisingly well written and interesting. Should be required reading for all college students, now that communication takes place so frequently in the electronic sphere and it seems that many people have lost the ability to write concisely, clearly, and respectfully. Great tips and hints for all sorts of communication and a great reference that I will keep in my library.
Excellent book, not just for students, but for those who have been in business for years and need to update their thinking to fit the business world today.
Required reading for my course this semester tilted Communication for Professionals. I already knew most of this information as I have worked in a field that requires a lot of business communication skills, but would be helpful for students who have not.
