Knuckleduster has saved his daughter Tamao, but for now, he’s not letting anyone else know that he’s back. That’s just as well, since Koichi and Pop Step have their hands full getting ready for an all-out entertainment extravaganza—Captain Celebrity’s final appearance in Japan at the Sky Egg stadium! Unfortunately, the high-speed villain from Osaka is also preparing to initiate a major catastrophe at the event. When the chips are down, Captain Celebrity and Koichi may not be the heroes we want, but are they the heroes we need?
More than a little disappointing. I'm here for stories about the Crawler and his growth. A bit with the other unlicensed "heroes" like Pop*Step and others was kind of cool. We are dealing with people outside the system that is the world of My Hero Academia. Instead we literately leave Crawler and Pop*Step mid fight and the next page it is hours / days / months later it is not clear with no mention of the fight. We end up following a soulless airhead football player like licensed hero from America called Captain Celebrity. A hero not worth the name who causes more harm than good. He is so bad he flees America for Japan to clean up his image. Note, not be a better person or hero, just to to improve him image. This story is just the redemption story of a licensed hero and we watch him for some reason becomes a "better" person. How bad a person is CC? He is the captain of the football team who is assigned to your team for a group project who does none of the work but gets all the credit and the grades. He shares intimate and embarrassing photos of his wife and child in front of millions on live TV. It is not what I'm hear to read. It is a disappointing turn in the comic.
Captain Celebrity they'll NEVER make me like you. Not when I first read this and still not now. I also hate how both his narration AND the authors notes describe his wife why are they calling her a hag what.
I hate the trope his character is based around on principle. But then they tried to give him a mini redemption and growth arc which fine and all but IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE. The main thing they tried to go intro his backstory for was his relationship with his wife. CC, you love your wife so much? You're telling me you had this cute lil love story and connection in school when you were younger (also a painfully basic and cliché story that gets no other development. They just. Leave it at that) Ok why'd you cheat on her?? Canonically too. Not even implications. They literally showed him flirting with the intent to sleep with other women AND being in bed with them. And they don't explain it in his whole chapter with the "oh he has a heart of gold there's more to the story " nah. There wasn't. He was introduced as a cheater and then they talk about his loving his wife, which he apparently did the whole time despite literally coming to Japan because he was having public scandals because of how much he was sleeping around? Its such a huge flaw that it makes me think that they forgot the actual character moments in earlier chapters that DONT line up with anything their trying to tell us now. They just brush all of that under the rug. Also him sharing the private photos of his wife in the hospital after giving birth to the whole world without permission? Is that intended to be endearing? All it cemented is that he's still so inconsiderate and oblivious. They also tried to show the development by him saving people. Like his job. Wow. Omg he saved those girls even if it meant taking the hit himself? Omg he saved people? Like the part of his job description? That he's licensed for? wow!! omg he actually does his job!!
Of all the gimmicky, surface level side characters that have been introduced throughout the series, THIS is the guy they choose to try to develop. And it was done awfully too. There were so many other characters that were far more unique and interesting to develop (or, you know, the actual main character but whatever. Both Pop and Koichi have lowkey been sidelined for a while (somehow??) so apparently that's too much of an ask) and they chose this guy. And then do it horribly. It added nothing to any of the other characters, it added nothing to the overall story, and it was done horribly with a guy who somehow became worse when they tried to make him sympathetic. There were so many other characters that were more relevant to this side plot (like the whole performance trope) and then even more that were more relevant to the rest of the story that would've been so much more interesting to have seen more of.
Side note, I like Midnights portrayal here a lot more than in the main series tbh. She has her moments in the main series, but everything about her portrayal there rubs me the wrong way. Its cool to actually see her doing hero work and her overall methods make a lil more sense when she's not creeping on high school boys.
Captain Celebrity’s send-off is a lot more explosive than people anticipated. My man is really holding it down I gotta say. He’s grown on me a lot in such a short amount of time. The little omake about him and his wife was adorable. Also, The Outsiders reference made me laugh even though it made no sense at all lol. Koichi coming in clutch and doing what he does best, supporting heroes. The other heroes making their appearances makes me happy. I hope everyone gets out of this alive.
4.5 stars, as this is the first volume in the series to leave off on a high stakes cliffhanger!! Things are really getting intense, cannot wait to see where this goes
A really great volume, and a real step up for the series in regards to the action, and also impacts for the series as a whole and relation to the main MHA series. I love seeing Kiochi take up more of a hero role himself, and getting to also see Captain Celebrities backstory, making him a much more likeable character. It’s great to see Fat Gum again, and also to see all the hero’s come together to help prevent the disaster at CC’s leaving event. Hopefully this quality continues on and they delve more into discovering the history of the Nomus creation.
This volume was pretty intense, I was on edge the entire time! I kind of like Captain Celebrity a little more now knowing his backstory. It was awesome seeing loads of the pro-heroes all together, including some underrated ones. I enjoyed the action a lot, and I'm still hanging by a threat wondering what's going to happen next!
They actually made me really like Captain Celebrity in this book and now I wanna see more of his family 🤭
I'm happy to say I'm starting to like the characters and plot enough to want to read it just for them and not the pro heros I already know from the main series showing up, although it always makes me happy to see Aizawa
I was expecting this volume to just be another side-story, since Koichi and Pop are barely in it, but it's actually a bait and switch since the latter few chapters are some of the most epic in the series thus far. What an evil cliffhanger!
This is an interesting volume. Sadly though, I will not be keeping or re-reading this volume. Its always a hit or miss with this series if I was going to like it or not.
Okay, this one was pretty interesting. And of course it just had to go and end on a cliffhanger, when I don't have the next volumes already ordered from my library.
I'm really enjoying this series. It's a more light-hearted and comedic story compared to the main series, but that doesn't stop me being invested in the story and its characters. Just like the plot of the main series, it's getting darker with every volume.
Old faces make a comeback in this one, in particular, Knuckleduster! I didn't think I missed him that much, but it turns out I did! He's got a mysterious backstory I can't wait to learn more about, and to see how he connects with the newest villain that Koichi et al are up against.
The story starts off with an innocent going away event for Captain Celebrity, who's soon to return to his home country, America, but of course, it doesn't go to plan. They host it in a very tall skyscraper called the Sky Egg, which becomes a target for the latest mystery villain and his new genetically modified creatures that he lets loose upon the building. This kickstarts a rescue and defence mission, involving plenty of pro-heroes we recognise from the main series, including Midnight, Eraser Head, Ingenium, and Best Jeanist. Best Jeanist definitely takes the spotlight here, and you see why he's one of the highest rated heroes. His Quirk is a lot cooler than it sounds!
The vigilantes and pro-heroes have to work together yet again. Koichi and Pop Step help Detective Tsukauchi and Eraser Head with information for the undercover mission that Eraser Head, Fat Gum, and Kaniyashiki undertake, looking into a corporation they suspect to be creating these genetically modified villains (which is both eye-opening and hilarious). Since this is a prequel, I have a sneaking suspicion that this is linking to a huge villain in the main series, as there are many similarities to the creatures they use.
Koichi gets more of the spotlight in this one, after taking a bit of a backseat in previous volumes to let characters like Knuckleduster and Pop Step take centre stage. He goes up against some villains with Captain Celebrity, and it's really cool to see how much his Quirk has grown. Although, it's also a bit heart-breaking. You'd see how cool of a hero he might have become if he'd just made it onto the hero course he applied for. He's got both the ability and the heart to become a great hero.
Speaking of Captain Celebrity, if you've read my previous reviews, you'll know I disliked this character. He's arrogant and selfish, and extremely irritating, but in this volume he gets some great character development. He's slowly losing his selfish nature and becoming a true hero. We get to see how his Quirk actually works, and it turns out he's actually pretty damn powerful. He could give All Might a run for his money. Where All Might is strong and charming, C.C. is fast and cunning. We also get a look into his backstory, in particular how he met his wife that we hear so much about as he's always in trouble with her, and how he's not as awful as we originally thought him to be. He's become rather likable in my eyes now.
This volume ended on a huge cliffhanger, slap bang in the middle of a battle, leaving us wondering after the fate of certain characters. I'm excited to pick up the next one!
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 7 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (45–53) of the on-going manga series.
Iwao Oguro as Knuckleduster has saved Tamao Oguro, his daughter, from the clutches of the Villain Factory and the former host of Kuin Hachisuka as Queen Bee. However, he doesn't immediately return to Kōichi Haimawari and Kazuho Haneyama as he is still investigating who has stolen his Quirk and how it reemerged for villainous purposes.
Meanwhile, Kōichi Haimawari and Kazuho Haneyama have their hands full getting ready for an all-out entertainment extravaganza for Christopher Skyline as Captain Celebrity's final appearance in Japan at the Sky Egg stadium. Unfortunately, the high-speed villain that has somehow stolen the Quirk from Iwao Oguro has planned an explosive catastrophe.
Captain Celebrity and Koichi Haimawari as The Crawler team-up to fight these flying monsters that act-like bombs when impacted. Fortunately, Shōta Aizawa as Eraser Head and other heroes arrive to help out as the tankōbon ends with a gigantic explosion that seemingly knocks the Big Egg stadium tower over.
Hideyuki Furuhashi has written this tankōbon. It is centered mainly on Kōichi Haimawari and Kazuho Haneyama as they prepare for Christopher Skyline as Captain Celebrity's final appearance in Japan. The villain that has inherited the Quirk of Iwao Oguro, formerly as High-Speed Hero: O'Clock and current vigilante Knuckleduster has plans otherwise and decides to use his bomb-like creatures to kill Captain Celebrity. Betten Court illustrated this tankobon and it was rather well done and similar to those of Kohei Horikoshi – the inspiration of the series.
All in all, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 7 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
Ever since Knuckleduster left the series in volume 4, it seems to want to focus on Pop Step's musical career. Which has always been a side story in the series but never so prominent, it's kind of dull. I picked up this series because of the Vigilante aspect and them taking down druggies. But it's turned Crawler into a side character, who's only serving a side kick to Eraser Head and Midnight.
I never wanted them to be sidekicks but it's been 3 volumes now and I doubt it'll go back to them standing on their own two feet. This series also seems to be learning far to much on the main title, with all the characters being pulled over even All Might. This series used to be so much better than this, it could stand on it's own feet. In fact when I read My Hero Academia, Vol. 1, I didn't like it and hated Deku, then I started this series loved it, so I gave it another try.
Now this series is just boring, I really didn't like this volume, it's only for the heartfelt flashback that I'm giving this two stars. If it could just write the series with that much passion instead of going hey look who it is. Also what is Crawlers power supposed to be, his quirk was speed crawling then it was to sticking on walls and now he can shoot things out of his hands. Well Which is it? They can only have one quirk, if the story was good then I wouldn't be so damn picking but it's just so out of the blue. He has nothing else to offer, they also seem to have stolen the multi quirk ability from the main series, the less said about that the better.
Considering I read the last volume which was volume six about like 7 months ago. Getting back into it I literally had to slowly pay attention and then I got it. It was good. Makes me realize why I like this series so much. But besides all that Koichi is still best boy to me, I literally love him. Um the villain of the this part of the story, even though what he’s doing is completely immoral, I like him. And not in the sense that he’s like hot or whatever. I just really like his design even if I can’t see his face and it’s just a shadow outline. And I just like him cuz he seems cool. I want to see more of him and who he is and all that jazz. I liked the events of this volume with Captain Celebrity, at first in the beginning I wasn’t a huge fan of him but he’s changed and we love the character growth. I mean he’s not selfish and he sees how he’s changed and he was willing to sacrifice himself for everything. And I love characters like that, not saying I love him, I just love how he was developed. Hope the next volume is just as good as this one. Not gonna lie the ending seems like it’s going to be one whole clusterfuck. I mean chaotic lol. The cliffhanger is straight chaos. The scene with Aizawa dressing in different disguises was probably one of my favorites. And not only that but the part he’s in a suit and Kaniko says “you’ll never know if you’ll hafta put on a suit to get up and apologize for a scandal someday!” And Aizawa goes “me? Never gonna happen.” Like I know the writers did that intentionally and I’m here for it. Overall good volume can’t wait to read the next one.

Captain Celebrity has really grown on me. He is a hero and his “I can take these punches all day” reminds me of Captain America. His team up with Koichi was my favourite part of this volume, and his romance with his wife. He really is trying to change his ways and maybe, just maybe, he’s misunderstood. Fatherhood definitely suits him.
This volume was part hero comic, part police show, part disaster movie. The Tokyo Sky Tree (Egg) has been bombed by giant flying suicide bomber creatures and a lot of heroes are here to save the day. Best Jeanist has a kind of weird, but actually very useful quirk and he really came through. It was epic seeing him put the tower back up. But it was even cooler seeing CC hold it up by himself and taking blows that entire time. The police work and investigation was actually very enjoyable to see and I’m quite interested in seeing what Knuckduster’s part in all this is going to be, once he shaves.
Koichi just grows and grows as a vigilante. He knows his strengths and his weaknesses, that’s what makes him great. He does his best and holds the fort until someone stronger can come finish the job. That’s good enough for him and good enough for me.

Knuckleduster has another heartwarming moment with his daughter which opens this volume. The big moment in my opinion is the going away party for Captain Celebrity! As always tons and tons of heroes you know from the My Hero Academia main book, which for me is so fun. I feel like every volume I get to see more of the characters thoughts and characteristics. Solid volume with good art and the story progresses forward, loaded with fun.
It’s become a story all about a pro hero (Captain Celebrity) and within this volume we have moved so much further away from the vigilantes, who’s story is actually cool with street level villains, to the pro heroes and this volume had almost all of them from the main MHA world.
I’m hoping the remaining volumes focus back on street level action and does not flow into the main MHA world which despite loving, doesn’t belong in this series.
