A year ago, War had everything. A mate, a life, a pack.
Now, he’s trapped in a world turned upside down. Where once there was a sun, there’s now only darkness. All thanks to a witch with a bloodthirsty vendetta. She stole his mate and drove every last werewolf mad, turning them into feral beasts hell bent on killing any human crossing their path.
Without hope, War is lost…until a ray of light pierces his endless darkness.
Emma.
He’d know his mate’s scent anywhere. Only she can keep away the madness. Only she can return his humanity.
But the humans won’t let her go easily, and War will have to risk everything to finally reclaim what is his.

Having had a relationship with a witch in his past, alpha werewolf War found his fated mate in human Emma. However, at their mating ceremony, the witch decided he was her's and everything changed where his world was turned upside down turning all werewolves into feral beasts determined to kill all humans. Even worse, it meant that Emma was taken away from him. But one day War catches Emma's scent and realises only she can keep him free of the madness and return him to humanity - and so he determines to free her so they can be together even if War will have to risk everything to finally reclaim what is his.
This was a pleasant story that wasn't the usual shifter story as it had a dystopian side to it where it had been turned onto its head. I'm not sure if I liked it or not. Whilst it was a well-written story in that I understood all of it and could experience some of the emotions of the characters, I did find it a little monotonous in places. It felt like it was a longer book than it needed to be with the level of detail I experienced in the story. A good story that you might enjoy and so I would suggest trying this first book in the series to see if you can get on with the concept.
Different shifter tale of jealousy, curses and the typical nastiness of humanity. A shifter finds his mate but a witch he was having a relationship with wasn’t happy and in a fit of jealous rage, curses all wolves. Unfortunately this also cursed the world we live in, turning it into a version more reminiscent of olden days. No power, internet and modern conveniences. Humans live in protective compounds/forts and have to grow and barter for living items. There is of course the ones who are power hungry and disgusting in their behaviour. The wolf shifters are forced into their wolf forms permanently, without any sentient memories. Though I sort of enjoyed this, it didn’t grab me and I really don’t want to read about more deaths and fighting. Especially as Taylor didn’t get his just deserts, so this attitude will just continue onward. Read through Kindle Unlimited.
Even in a world of magic, this story had one too many implausibilities.
Somehow Zara manages to cast a curse powerful enough to 1) rid the entire world of the sun, 2) trap every shifter in existence in their wolf form, and 3) suppress every shifters’ humanity—and she does it all within 24-hours without having done any prepping or planning prior to that day. Yeah—I’m not buying it. Putting aside the power needed to get rid of the sun, how is it possible for the moon to always be in the sky?!?! Is the Earth flat?!
Apparently, at least four other wolves in War’s pack were separated from their mates due to the curse. Yet none of them were present at the mating ceremony for their alpha couple. We know this because if they had been present they would have been close by when the curse was activated.
Now, I’m no tunnel expert, but I’m pretty sure that it’s impossible to dig a mile long tunnel in less than a year. Making it even more impossible is the knowledge that a) the tunnel was created after the Fort was established, and b) the tunnel had been in use for some time—this shortens the timeline from one-year to at most ten-months. Then there’s the knowledge that the tunnel’s existence is only known by a select few members of the militia who created it to smuggle goods—which means they would have had to have been extremely careful not to get caught, and as such any progress would have been slow. Now I won’t bore you with the specifics, but I did some calculations and determined that it would take—at the very least—558 days (approximately) to dig a 1-mile long tunnel. And that’s with 24 hours of consistent digging a day. Josh Gates is the reason that I knew enough about tunnel construction to become distracted at such an insignificant detail.
I still would have considered reading the next book as I’m curious to see how the conflict with Fort Allegiance, as well as Zara, is resolved. I also would have liked to find out if certain plot holes were filled. However, the next book hasn’t been published, and I didn’t like this book enough to keep track of when it finally will be.
I was so excited to start a new series but RE Butler, one of my favorite authors, and now with Gwen Knight they have created an amazing series. Absolutely something new, and dealing with so many different areas within the same story. The main couple in the story is Emma a human and War the alpha of the local Wolfpack. He is her mate and her true love. But when War’s ex gets jealous she does not fool round. We are now in a world of darkness and all the wolf shifters are feral and can not shift back. Add martial law, power hungry humans you have an amazing great story. A happy ending but you never need more with more to come.
I LOVED this one. The start is so different from anything Ms. Butler has done before and Ms. Knight is a new author to me. The post-apocalyptic setting gives it an ominous feel. War and Emma together must find a way back to one another. I liked that Emma was just as much of an alpha as War. War is a fantastic alpha always putting his pack a priority above all else except Emma. I'm super excited to get my hands on Snow's book. Fans are going to go crazy over this new series.
This book is equally Emma’s and she is one fearless chick. If something needs to be done she is there, especially for her mate War. But the shifters are stuck in wolf mode, their sense of humanity gone. Luckily our intrepid couple find each other again. Their story is just the beginning though, with an overarching baddie that is still in the wind, and relations between humans and shifters nonexistent this tale is far from over.
WOW this is a awesome start to a amazing series with unforgettable romance and sizzling hot passion. The characters are exciting with such chemistry between the two. You will enjoy every moment of their relationship with lots of drama and steamy emotions that will keep you turning page after page of this amazing story.
A whole different take on the werewolf theme. I absolutely loved reading this one and I can't wait to read more in this series. If you enjoy reading shape shifter paranormal romance then you will love it too.
When the vengeance of a witch destroys the light, can Emma pick up the pieces and save her relationship with her mate? Will love find a way to beat the curse that mad him fully wolf? Will humanity devolve to it's lowest denominator? Book 1 of a new series.
