Earth is gone. Eden promises a new start for mankind.
Kendra, Andrew, and the other survivors arrive with Lewis Hound’s chosen people at an unfamiliar planet with more questions than answers: how did they get there? Where did all of the advanced technology come from? And is this really Proxima B Centauri?

The colony ship breaks into sections and makes an emergency landing amidst a meteor shower, and Lewis Hound, Eden’s enigmatic leader, goes missing.

Despite their misgivings and the initial chaos, people soon settle into a routine in the fledgling colony. But a growing number of suspicious circumstances lead Andrew and Kendra to doubt what they’re being told, and they begin to think that there might be more dangerous predators about than the ones on four legs.

With new friends and old adversaries, they struggle to find the truth behind a growing web of deceit.

What is beyond the forbidden mountain ranges that surround the valley where they landed? And where is Lewis Hound?

Enjoyable sci-fi read about colonization of a new world. I really enjoy Andrew and Kendra, and Val, Roland, and Tony.

Best though is the narration is performed by my favorite, Ray Porter. Book 3 is already queued up and I’m ready to hit play.

This story of a colony gone wrong is pretty average - the writing is ok but the plot leaves a little to be desired if you read this kind of thing all the time. It's somewhat predictable.

A crazed religious leader always irritates me. This one spouts a lot of real biblical scripture, but I'm somewhat offended that nobody with any kind of faith stands up to her and points out how she's completely nuts. As usual, the main characters just roll their eyes and talk about how she's looney toons. But the stuff she spouts has real meaning to some of us within the right context. I'm not looney toons with regard to my faith and yet there goes the stereotype, lumping every person of faith with some kind of disturbed religious zealot. It cheapens my faith. And it's not just the Christian faith, it's any faith that's made fun of simply as a plot device. Not cool, Mr. Scott.

Ray Porter is probably the only reason I kept going with this series. He's amazing.

Again, like Book 1, I would rate this a 2 1/2 star book. But after a more than generous round-up to 3 stars the first time (which I note again kicks in goodreads recommendation algorithms), my impression of this book isn't nearly positive enough to repeat that rating. Even worse, I have absolutely no interest in continuing the trilogy further as I have other books that I want to read waiting on my shelf. If I'm really honest, I'm left feeling more like continuing after Book 1 was a mistake and that's a shame, because I expected much more. I'm not sure why but I guess hope springs eternal.

The story certainly has potential and overall it really could have been epic. But the plot is never executed with any panache that would separate this tale from dozens of others of the same genre. The first third of the book slogs along as if half-asleep and the rest remains as before: both predictable and filled with incredibly clichéd and shallow players. I mean, goodness, if these are the people hand-picked to save the human race from extinction, we are truly screwed. But even as the pacing picked up, again and again I found myself going 'they really could have really done something with this bit'. But by the time the next chapter rolled around, I was just left disappointed and honestly more than just mildly bored.

There are no surprises - no not even THAT one - and the writing isn't nearly sophisticated enough to carry what could have been a truly grand sci-fi adventure along. Instead, it reads more like a lazy airport shop thriller that you'd pick up to pass the time between lay-overs (PTSD Marine, check, hardened FBI agent love interest, check, etc. etc.). I will say I'm more than glad it was available via Kindle Unlimited because I wouldn't have wanted to consider a cost-enjoyment balance on this one.

I don't know if this is another case of a double-authored book leading to a poorer result than if one of those involved had stuck to writing it alone or not, but I guess it doesn't matter now anyway. Done and deleted. Peace!

Dissatisfying.
That's what I'd call _Colony (Final Days #2) by Jasper T. Scott and Nathan Hystad. I found the text unengaging, and mostly just meandering, there seemed to be no clear direction. What should I have learned about the human experience with this novel? I'm unsure.

First, the reader for this audiobook was Ray Porter, who was excellent.

The book. The plot, for me, seemed to be too long for the amount of information we learned. I feel like Scott / Hystad has an idea and maybe even wrote the last book, and thought he needed a book 1. Then decided well that only got people so far, I need a middle to explain how the colony got to where the final book begins. This could have been done in a couple of sentences, or flashbacks.

And yes, I rolled my eyes many times in this book. There's a lot of flat characters in this text. I think this is supposed to be a plot-driven text, but the characters could still have depth to them.

I found the book so dissatisfying, I'm pretty sure I am not going to go anymore. I'd like to know by people who have read the three books if they feel they could have skipped this one.

Recommended: no, not really. If you like the first which I did, I'm not sure you'll like this one.

In the first book of Final Days, the story was about the survival of a few main characters, as the Earth seemed to be having more and more strange events occur, and in the middle of these events, we followed two main Characters, Andrew Miller and Kendra Baker as the searched for missing people, Miller was looking for his Daughter, Baker an FBI agent was searching for a slew of missing people, trying to assuage guilt over never having been able to find her Sister, Carrie, who went missing over a decade ago when she was very young, and has never been heard from since.
The book was full of mystery and intrigue, and we met several other Characters along the way, as it all led to one man, Lewis Hound, and his hope to save a core group of some of the most intelligent and specialised people on the planet.
At the opening of book 2, we learn that the Earth is undergoing a series of calamites, which is tearing the planet apart, and will result in the end of all human kind on the planet. Having reached ‘Eden’, Lewis Hound’s fabled retreat, we see events from the point of view of Andrew and Val, as the ‘Eden’ project, suddenly launches them into space, and not to Mars, or even to something as trite as other Moons in our Solar System. Hound has his sights set on Proxima B in the Proxima Centauri system.
Andrew and Val quickly meet up with the rest of the gang from Book 1, Kendra, Roland, and much to Andrew’s anger and mistrust, Tony (who he doesn’t take long in laying down the law to about his 14yr old Daughter, much to Val’s horror).
Kendra is also shocked to be reunited with her missing Sister, Carrie, who has not been ‘missing’ as such, but has been working with Hound the whole time, preparing for this project. Kendra is obviously angry, and upset at her Sister for letting her family believe that she has been missing all that time.
The Character writing is just incredible in these parts, in which we have a Sister, who has devoted her entire life to trying to find her Sibling, and as she says, her entire life, all her life’s choices have been dictated by what her Sister has done, joining the FBI, never getting married, being obsessed with finding her, the type of work she has done, in sex crimes and slave traders, and there her Sister is off having fun. The grittiness and sheer anguish that is portrayed in these scenes is so incredibly powerful. As someone who was in the Police and worked with DV and Child Abuse, I could really empathise with Kendra’s character, and it is incredibly clever, intelligent writing to be able to portray a character with this much depth. It just gives the story that extra touch of realism, sets it apart from others as something that is an exceptional read.
This level of character writing is true for each of the characters, from Andrew Miller, who is just brilliant as the veteran, desperate to look after his daughter, having thought he was going to play one role in her life, and now realising he is going to have to be a different role model. It is this level of character development that makes the story so fantastic, as there is so many layers to each of the major (and even the minor) characters. Roland is just brilliant as the hacker, who lived in a basement, and now has his whole life changed, having located Hound, and Eden, and then realising all is not what it seems. One thing that is really awesome, is that there are almost elements of ‘The Stand’, Stephen Kings masterpiece, in which there is the battle against ‘good and evil’, but with the religious overtones. Reverend Shelley Morris moves amongst the colonists spouting her religious propaganda, creating even more issues for people. Morris is herself one of the really interesting Characters in the story, her manipulative actions, powerful speeches, and ability to be in the right place at the wrong time, allow her to know a lot, and use it in ways that could have extraordinary outcomes.
The character writing is by far, one of the truly exceptional parts of this story, and gives such gritty realism to what is already a powerful, and intelligent storyline.
The story (without trying to give anything away), only gets more intriguing, and utterly fascinating, you are just completely drawn into this mystery, it is gripping, compelling reading that you just can’t put down, it is one of the best Sci-Fi thriller/mystery’s I have read all year, I literally sat and listened to the audiobook version for 6.5hrs straight as I just didn’t want to stop.
Everyone is told they are going to be put into Cryo-sleep for their journey, so the 7 decades of travel will go in an instant, and our characters go into their chambers, and are then suddenly being thrust onto the planet surface after something goes wrong on re-entry. And this is where the really good stuff begins.
The story moves between Andrew, Kendra, Val, Roland, Carrie, Tony and a few other minor Characters. Hound has disappeared when the new Colony is being set up, no one can find him, and it falls to Hound’s two Directors, Carrie (Kendra’s Sister), and Eric Keller (a guy with an attitude problem who likes to abuse his authority, and takes it out on Andrew every chance he can). The ship they came in, can kind of pull itself apart, and land, so modules that are 4 stories high, and about the size of an apartment block, each with a different purpose, land on Proxima B.
They start to set up the Colony, but this is where the mystery and intrigue, and all the fun begins.
There are so many little story lines that, again, I don’t want to put them all down and give away spoilers, but with Hound missing, the Reverend Shelley Morris starting her own Religious Cult and trying to disrupt everything, a strange mist that causes hallucinations and people to go nuts, as well as predators the size of bears, shaped like cats, that are intelligent – oh, and hungry. Andrew, Kendra, Roland, Tony and Val all try and work things out, finding new allies in a Sgt Harper, and eventually Kendra’s Sister.
This is a story that is just full-on action, literally from the very first paragraph, right the way through. Added to that, as I said earlier, it is full of mystery, intrigue, multiple story-lines and different sub-plots, making it not only a fascinating read, but absolutely enthralling and compelling, and most of all, brilliant fun – which is what you want out of a book.
I have to say to, there are a lot of stories, in which you get lots of subplots, but nothing is ever explained, and it kind of gets frustrating? (You know, just like the series ‘Lost’ on TV that confused the hell out of everyone!!), but this is not like this, as the Authors make sure that they are providing a good amount of understanding, enough to keep you wanting more, so that it is utterly captivating and compulsive reading.
This is a sensational series, and a must read for anyone who loves Dystopian, Colony Building, Mystery, Mil Sci-Fi, Space Opera, or just a really great read. The Character work is just outstanding, and drives what is an exceptional story, that I seriously can’t wait for Part 3. Don’t miss it, you will be disappointed if you do.

I am really enjoying this trilogy so far. This was a great installment. (audible review)

I like Andrew and Kendra (although Andrew does hit his head a lot for some reason) I am enjoying all the secondary characters as well, Roland, Valeria, and Tony.

This is a fun Si Fi book. Not hard to follow at all. Great dialogue throughout.

As for the narration, it is PERFECT! I love Ray Porter, he is amazing. All the women sound like women, everyone gets their own distinct voice and his reading voice is very pleasing to the ears.

I am liking the series

This storyline is very interesting it leaves a lot of questions that I want answer to, so I guess I'm going to read the third book to find out the answers. There's a character in this book that could have gotten rid of but they kept and it just made the storyline worse. I did not love it but hopefully the third book redeem itself

Wow, this book was amazing! I really enjoy the epic sci-fi with the twist, adventure, suspense and characters with a variety of roles and their own traits. This book really took the last one and became a huge adventure. I couldn't stop reading until I got to the end. Exciting!

I almost didn’t want to read this after reading the first. But I’m glad I did. It is really good and the mystery is spot on. I haven’t read the third yet, of course, but my main gripe at this point is that the trilogy wasn’t just a single large tome — it might have garnered a 5/5 from me if it was.

Skip.

The first book was interesting. This one is a disappointing follow up with cliche characters and a plot that barely makes any sense. It’s a frustrating read that feels like the author needed to make one book into 3, and is just making the characters run around in circles with cartoonishly stupid antagonists interrupt the original story with Tom and Jerry level antics that quickly wear out your patience. You won’t learn where the original characters are, and what happened to earth if anything did - so you may as well skip to the end.

I often find that when reading a story written by two (or more) authors, the different styles and phraseology is apparent and disturb the story. Also, the results are often less than either of them would have done on their own. That is So-Not-the- Case with these two great authors. I actually feel the sum is greater than the parts.
The action is fast-paced but not to the point it overwhelms the reader. The character development mostly took place in the first of the three books planned for this series. The only negative slightly negative comment I could make is that this is not a "Stand-Alone" book. That really is a minor point because it's highly doubtful anyone would want to read just one of the books in this series. Even if someone started with the second book, they would surely go back and get the first. I understand these two authors intended to have a fast release of the second and third books in their series so, not finishing the central theme of each book and leaving "cliff-hanger" type endings is easy to excuse. Normally, for older guys like myself, especially those who read many books in the same genre, I recommend the authors include a summary of key prior events as well as a listing of characters and their roles, responsibilities, and relationships. Because of the short interval between subsequent books, that is not necessary. We already know the third segment is due to be released in early August, less than a month from now.
If you're not familiar with the story plot, you should look at the authors' summary. Reviewers that try to summarize a story often reveal details best delivered at the pace chosen by the authors. I will say this, some people live and some die.

I struggled to finish this, to be honest.
I liked the first one, it was well written and there was a mystery.
Second book, its just interacting with stereotypes - and i mean there are a lot of them - with the worst one being the insane zealot preacher stereotype.
I really like Ray Porter but even him doing the preacher one was unbearable.
Is every preacher a psychotic lunatic ready to drug and kill people? i dont believe so but it seems often that if a character is religious then its a ticking bomb waiting to explode to promote the plot??
The story in this book is all over the place, at times i thought "how did the story roll down to this".
We got a new planet, possible intelligent life, a new collony to establish but all we got to hear about is the lunatic delivering bible quotes? Oh no, really no, no.
And also....we got a 1000 people left but everybody is just killing people left and right? i mean, i wasnt counting but there must only 58 people left now? ....i really hope the third book is better.

A continuation of the "End of the Earth" saga from book #1 (duh). We left off with our intrepid bunch of earth misfits that banded together to find missing people and get on an offshore structure that was withstanding the cataclysms happening. They are basically held hostage and taken to another planet, but not, apparently to the one they are told they are going to.
The first half of this book was rather slow and almost repetitive. The group would see something, try to find out what was going on, guards would foil the plan and tell them to get back to work. Once the story got moving it was much more interesting and I liked the last half a lot.
One character did an abrupt turn around, which I doubt anyone would actually make, but I will wait and see if he has another agenda. I'll have to wait for book 3 to find out.

Colony, book #2 in the series, continues with the strong characters from book #1 and does some nice character development. The plot is done well too, and I really liked some of the unexpected twists in this one. I’m really liking the work Jasper and Nathan did to create this storyline.

I saw some complaints about the technology in book #2 being too advanced, but I suspect there’s more to the story that will be explained in book number #3. Without giving away the plot, I think some folks might have missed why the technology is so advanced. It’s kinda explained at the end of book #2. I plan to read book #3 to see how this all ends. Great characters, interesting story line, fast, enjoyable read with enough mystery, intrigue and SF to get me ready to purchase the final book in the saga.

Final Days Colony , Anthem Press, Inc Jasper T. Scott & Nathan Hystad
Excellent Read.
When Jasper T. Scott and Nathan Hystad team up, what else can be expected but great writing and uncommon ideas. This is not your run of the mill end of the world book. The characters are strongly portrayed, flawed and believable, the events are catastrophic and deadly. The portrayal of characters from such diverse backgrounds coming together into this one book makes for exciting and fast-paced reading. Now on EDEN, the new colony world, and trying to survive the new changes, this next book in the series is just as exciting as the first.

"Final Days:Colony" by J T Scott and N Hystad is awesome

I really, really, really (notice 3 reallys) liked this book. Wow, I don't use that word often, but, in this case it fits. The characters were even more awesome than in book 1. More is found out about the people which leads to more and more questions and the world is scary and at the same time interesting. The twists and turns keep you turning pages late into the night as you keep saying to yourself... just one more page. If you like scifi, scary, thrillingn and action, but not gore, then you will definitely enjoy /his book and the series. I can't wait till the next one.

This, second in the series, dystopian novel has a unique twist to the storyline that kept me interested enough to stay up way to late! I was turning pages as quickly as I could read them. I really like the primary group of characters and their dialogue is well-written. I enjoyed it very much and hope you do as well. I plan to get started on book 3 very soon because I excited to discover how this particular scoop of wild and crazy ends.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this ebook from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.

Much Better

This was what I expected vol1 to be. Just when I thought I had it figured out you pulled the old switcheroo on me. Really a good read. I had qualms at first but the story jumped up, grabbed me and wouldn't let go. Now I have to read vol 3 to see what happens to everyone. Really interested in their neighbors. Who are they? How did they get.there? Who is Lewis Hound? Can Roland become a hero, win the big battle, find true love and be happy. Now, who is Evan really? So many questions and only one book left.

I was intrigued because I was in the mood for some "end of the world" stuff where heroes make it out. I have to admit I did NOT see the plot twist coming at the end of the previous book. But this one started to have the story get stretched REAAAALLY thin, and there were too many convenient things happening, and with soooo many of the world's smartest and brightest brought together we get....our merry band of heroes, and everyone else is an idiot or rage freak. Still, I plowed through to see how it would go.

A mighty fine read

I listened to the audiobook version of this book with the very talented Ray Porter as the narrator bringing the book to life.

In book 2 the earth survivors make their way to a new planet to start over after earth died. As a second book in the trilogy, Colony was able to keep up the pace and maintaining my interest in continuing in the series. There is decent character development and I developed real hate for the protagonists.

Sadly, the book ends with a cliffhanger but I look forward to book 3.

Brilliant sequel

When two of my favourite authors combined to start a new series I could not pass up reading the first book. However theme of book one caught me by surprise. Two space writing authors telling a story on earth? It was a brilliant read and at the end of that book I could see where they were going: to space! Andrew, Kendra, Roland, Tony and Val find themselves on a new world, a new Earth, with many surprise turns as they try to understand where in the universe they are and for what purpose. Well written and highly recommended.

I loved this book. One thousand people taken illegally and lied to in order to save them from the world ending only to be taken to another planet. Andrew and Kendra were suspicious from the beginning and continued to snoop around until the found out what Lewis Hound really was and what he was up to. Also, Reverend Shelly Morris is completely insane thinking she's the Virgin Mary reborn and Lewis is the second coming of Christ. I'll be glad when someone kills these two.

No romance and the F-bomb is NOT used.

As for the narration: Ray Porter is one of my favorite 5 narrators. He's fantastic.

Final Days: Colony is the second book in this series by Jasper T. Scott and Nathan Hystad. What a great collaboration this has been.

I loved the first book and couldn't wait for this one. It certainly didn't disappoint.

Really great adventure, I couldn't put it down. Lots of fast paced story lines and well developed characters. Honestly, it's a must read.

Can't wait for book 3. Thankfully, it's slated for August release.

8/10: Excellent read, well written, fell right into the fictional world created.

“Don’t let him get under your skin,” Harper said. “If assholes had assholes, we’d call them Kellers.”

Two new characters to get to know in this character-driven and great plot-written story. I'm enjoying this one.

On this mysterious planet, it felt like danger was imminent no matter where they turned.

Can't wait for the final book to be released next month.

Final Days Colony

An intriguing story about a group of humans saved from the destruction of the Earth and flown off to another planet to begin the human race again. Lewis Hound the founder is actually an alien and a group of religious fanatics took control of the colony. Andrew and his friends a former marine are working to restore normal life. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next and final installment.

Of course the billionaire was a robot hahaha. Great sequel! I loved that we're taken to an alien planet on this book. But I'm just dying to get a better look into this planet and its ecosystem. Flora and fauna, and other stuff. Also -- the Colony, in that 1000 people, there has to be some famous celebrities right? Politicians? That would've made the story more interesting. 3 stars = not bad. Can't wait to read the conclusion.

Awesome follow up to Final Days. Andrew, Karen and their friends land at an alien planet. But their new home proves to be not a safe place. And Lewis Hound, their leader, is missing. Four legged predators appear but that doesn't seem to be their biggest problem. Those on two legs are. And the events at the end sound quite realistic. Can't wait for Escape. What a fantastic series so far!

This book continues the fast, exciting pace of the first. It is wonderfully unique and surprising. The characters are well fleshed out and believable. Loved the description of the new new world and its dangers. I don't care for religious fanaticism or politics in my reads, however, I still really enjoyed this book as well as the first.

Starts slow but gets fast

This second book is a little bit slower than the first book but as Eden gets where its supposed to be we find out that the colonists are not where they thought they were and things are not quite the way they thought that it would be. Insanity is catching and there are plenty of catchers.. the third book should just about rip their New Earth apart.

Great story so far!

The first book was an interesting missing persons mystery set in what looked like the end times for humanity. It ends in a twist that sets off an even better tale of adventure and colonization in book two. Can’t wait to see how this is resolved in the final book!
