The survivors of Cloverdale, Indiana band together in an effort to scratch out an existence among the charred remains of their town. With Vince Walker as their reluctant leader, the small group struggles to rebuild what they can while striving to maintaining their humanity.
Each fresh sunrise presents them with the opportunity for redemption, along with the chance of failure. Nothing in this new world comes easy and teamwork becomes more important than ever.
As new people begin to show up in Cloverdale their group grows in size. Some of the additions are welcome assets, but others are not. Trust is a hard won commodity.
Vince knows there are some tough decisions ahead for him and the others due to the limited resources of the town. But none of that will matter if they can’t hold out against a gang of looters with revenge on their minds. The survivors are about to have their resolve tested in ways they haven’t even imagined.
This, and the linked The Dark Road series, are written in the apocolyptic/post apocalyptic genre and generally well written with good characters and situations. There were a couple of time line issues where it seemed impossible for everything that had happened to have taken place in the time allowed - even taking intolerance account the apocolyptic landscape in which the characters were having to travel. The main issue I found with both series was the over abundance of internal retrospection and thought processes which affected the smooth flow of the story and were often repetitive. It detracted from the story for me, and at times felt a bit like Bruno was using it to 'pad out' the story. Having said that, I have enjoyed them well enough to buy all the books currently available and hope there are more as both Vince's and Ben's journeys are definitely not over.
Great read! Please hurry with book 5 I need to know what happens
The series ends at book 4 when will book 5 be out! I need to know what happens. I just get going in a series and then it abruptly ends! Cannot stand that
Not only is this book very short but it has the feel of simply stretching out a story. Vince does a lot of pondering and much of what he plans to do is pre-empted by other things that happen. There were some shifty newcomers that Vince viewed with suspicion and might have been interesting but this ended in a rather anti-climactic wave goodbye. Then Vince pondered some more. It does end with the encounter with our group from Miller's other series. I do rather like this Cloverdale group who are forced to come to terms with what has happened and try to survive with what is at hand but they need to be doing more and pondering less.
I've been reading this series for a couple of years now. There's sometimes a long gap between books, while he concentrates on other series, but I'm patient and don't mind waiting. Cloverdale and Vince have captured my imagination, and won't let go. I enjoy the stories about how they manage to overcome all the problems they encounter. Vince isn't your typical "armed to the teeth" survivor types, and is still worried about his humanity. He's not a pansy, but not Rambo either. I hope I don't have to wait too long for the next book in the series, but hey, I'm patient.
BLike the other's in the series this is a awesome book!
Loved this book! Glad it was just as good as the other's I have read! I think I mixed some of them up though as I was sure that Ben Davis and his son was with Vince when Ryan was kidnapped... Guess this is a good reason to go back and read them again! I don't remember the old couple at all! Though this book was about Vince and Cloverdale, can't wait for more!
Interesting story I'm good characters. But also spends too much time giving details about how bright the lights are in his office and things are really don't add to the story. It's as if he's trying to come up with enough words create a book. But I did enjoy it and we'll probably read the next book as well. Criticism is referred to be constructive.
Confrontation, Cloverdale book 4, and the last book in the Cloverdale series continues the story of Cloverdale and the town's struggle to survive the aftermath of the EMPs. This is a great spin off and Dark Road fans and fans of post-EMP survival thrillers will love it! 5/5 stars!
Honestly by now it shouldn't be a surprise. I throughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one. Mr. Miller is a natural storyteller. His books flow well and the characters are like your next door neighbor, natural and believable.
I enjoyed reading the series but found contradicted the companion series Dark Road. Vince met Ben and his son previous to Ryan being kidnapped. and it was Ben who helped rescue him and disable the looter’s vehicles. It was also Ben who cleared Main St.
....interesting book. Not as much action as the others in this series, but still a very good storyline!!! Looking forward to finding out more about the new characters from the last part of the book!!!
Love this series so far. I’ve read Dark Road series and Cloverdale as they intertwine. I’m still curious about Ben Davis from Dark Road. I think Vince is a little too nice to bad guys. Can’t wait for the next book.
Disappointing hoped for a final confrontation with the looters But two local families turn up, welcome additions. Less welcome are three travellers 2 of whom are ejected from the community.
Glad you are continuing the story. Will be happy to read more. And the Cloverdale books keep you into a. Hopefully it's not to long till the next book.
Series seems to end with Vince meeting Ben on the road. We know Ben makes it from there. Hope we get to see what happens to clover dale either in bens story or more of vinces!
