Before Lorcan Rothach became a spy inside an enemy court, he was the forgotten son of a self-appointed king. His father, obsessed with siring a powerful hybrid, had discarded him at birth. For years, Lorcan hid in the grasslands, poor and hungry…and happy.
Until the day he was remembered.
Forced to return to the shadow lands, Lorcan was crowned prince and forever bound to his father’s every command. His first loathsome task: lie his way into the Air Court and help destroy his mother’s people.
But Lorcan did not know the worst of it yet. Years later, an even more heartless command would come. And the prince of shadows would betray the one he loved.
Prince of Shadows is a 20,000 word novella and Book 1.5 in The Fallen Fae series.

This was a short and quick read that really helped us as readers gain a background and learn more about Lorcan which I really appreciated. It was honestly much needed because it explained some of the choices that he made in Court of Ruins as well as fleshed out his character even more. It also gave us a sort of epilogue to Court of Ruins so now I'm even more excited to read Kingdom in Exile!
This just went over everything we already knew about Lorcan.
I love Lorcan but the fact that he delivered the woman he loves into the hands of his evil father rather than die himself, makes me think a lot less of him. I don't know how he can redeem himself after this.
A very satisfying glimpse into Lorcan's past and how he came to be in the position he finds himself in. Another point if view from the last scene of Kingdom of Ruins as well. Now all to do is pace back and forth until Kingdom of Exile is finally released in 10 days. 😍
This short novella answers some questions and gives a glimpse into Lorcan's past. It was nice to read about Lorcan's life and from his point of view along with his thoughts that helped shape the man he would become. I look forward to the next book.
A great edition to the Fallen Fae series! I loved getting this look from Lorcan's life, leading up to when we meet him in the winter court. We get such a great look at what has made him become who he is. I highly recommend fitting this into the Fallen Fae lineup as you read!
I really enjoyed this brief insight into Lorcan’s character and what happened to him to make him the way he is. I can’t wait to see where the series goes.
Cute, I guess. Nice glimpses into scenes that were hinted at in the series, but I didn't really feel like it added a whole lot. Still, happy to be in the world again.
