Reviewed at Shifter Haven

‘Broken Lynx‘ is the fifth title in the ‘Green Valley Shifters‘ series and fits perfectly in this quirky town full of shifters and humans (but sometimes it’s hard for even the residents to know which is which). While I will always love an Alpha male lead, Devon has all those qualities as well, just toned down a bit with a huge heart, stumbling over words when meeting his mate, and learning how to jumble raising his younger sister who is on that edge of the teen years with a mate who is a runner – and not just the jogging kind either. Jamie runs from things she cannot handle, like Green Valley, and relationship commitments, and even Devon, a man she could love and settle down with… if she let herself believe in forever in one place.

I adored Devon from the start. He’s a good man who has handled being thrust into an adult role at a young age so well. Abby is adorable, and the perfect image of a young girl just on the edge of becoming the woman she will one day be… but right now it’s all awkward, hormones, and not knowing exactly where she fits in the large picture. It took me a bit longer to completely fall for Jamie, she’s great at denial, refuses to stay in one place very long, and will run as fast as she can in any direction away from things that make her uncomfortable… like Green Valley, and one handsome, sexy geek whose tongue-tied conversations hide a good heart and a man she shouldn’t want but cannot resist. So. She runs. I don’t blame Jamie for being upset and angry when she learns what Devon and Abby are or when the secrets of Green Valley are revealed. She had that right. But sooner or later she’s going to have to stop running and face her fears and her desires for one man, one family… her mate, and his sister.

I had a blast back in Green Valley, and if you love a really good shifter romance with believable, likable characters then ‘Broken Lynx‘ or any title in the ‘Green Valley Shifters‘ series would be perfect for you. I love this particular “voice” of Zoe Chant, and I can see a few more possible stories in this series. So, I’m hoping we’re in for more visits to this quirky shifter town very soon.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Set Ablaze!!!

Devon, a Lynx shifter and programmer who took odd jobs to be able to provide for his little sister, Abby after their parents's death. He didn't have time for distractions then one day a beautiful, smart and captivating woman walked into his life. She was the one person he didn't expect, his mate Jamie.

Jamie, a Windlands firefighter from Alaska who wasn't looking to settle down. She just wanted to leave the small, nosy country town of Green Valley behind like she'd done years ago. She was only back in town as a favor to Turner to replace Dean ( BEARLY TOGETHER ) for the winter season. She never expected for her life to take an unexpected turn when she met the most, handsome and intriguing man waiting tables at the local diner, Gran's Grits.

Devon moved them to Green Valley cause he had a suspicion the town was filled with shifters. And he wanted Abby to be able to be herself and make friends, things she wasn't able to do in the city. Yet the youngster was still having trouble in school. He just wanted his sister's happiness even if it meant giving up his own.

Despite the growing attraction and things growing stronger between Devon and Jamie, the latter still wanted to leave. But the former and his Lynx were not going to let their mate leave, no matter what. When she found out about him and half of the town, she felt betrayed. But then she understood why they had to keep their secrets.

It was a treat to get some mentions of old characters and to find out the impact Patricia ( DANCING BEAR FOOT ) and Andrea ( THE TIGER NEXT DOOR ) had on Jamie's life growing up. To see them reunited after so many years was heartwarming.

BROKEN LYNX is the fifth book in Zoe Chant's GREEN VALLEY SHIFTERS series. It was a great read filled with lots of twists and turns. Zoe Chant did an incredible job. Two thumbs up!

This is an OK shifter romance, but Jamie was a bit hard to like at first. The story was also a bit too short to have enough character development. I would have liked more backstory on both Devon and Jamie.

At first, Jamie's attitude that she hated the town of Green Valley really turned me off. That was explained later, though, and she did get a lot better as the story continued. Devon was very likable, and it was sweet how good he was with his sister. It was cute to see him embarrass himself when he first met Jamie. I also liked Devon's sister Abby, and how easily she accepted Jamie into their lives.

One problem I have with all of this author's series is that there is so long between books. Lots of times I have to go back and reread some of the earlier books in a series, simply because it has been so long that I don't remember all the characters. That is frustrating. I know Zoe Chant is actually a group of authors, and one person writes all the books in a series -- but I wish the books in a series could be published closer together.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Sweet, low angst romance

Devon is a geeky young man (but also sexy, because he's a shifter, and they can't help it) struggling to find his groove. He's raising his little sister and juggling 3 jobs when he meets Jamie. Jamie is confident and adventurous, but also running away from town for some reason. Grief? It's really not clear.

There are the usual misunderstandings. There isn't as much introspection as there could have been.

The characters are well-defined and sympathetic. There are some old friends from previous books playing cameo performances.

As for the plot, it was fine. Jamie forgives Devon pretty easily, but I think that's part of her personality. Some of the plot points felt like they should've lead to something, but didn't. Some stuff came out of the blue. Overall, it was a fun, light romance.

Jamie is from Green Valley but left after high school and her mother's death. She now fights wildfires in Alaska but is back in town and working at the fire department. She's hoping that it's going to be a short stay. Lynx shifter and computer programmer, Devon, moved to Green Valley in hopes of making his little sister whom he's been raising happy. He has also heard that the town is shifter friendly with other shifters living there. When he meets Jamie, he knows she's his mate and she feels something too. Can he teach her to believe in forever?

I really like this series and this book is a good addition. I did enjoy the read but thought the ending was a bit abrupt leaving some unanswered questions. Otherwise, the book was well-written with wonderful characters. I do recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.

Another wonderful mate pairing in this series of small-town shifters

Once again, Zoe Chant created an enchanting tale of unique characters in singular situations. The focus remains squarely on the main romantic pair finding their feet in the mating bond while other pairings in the series make their appearance connecting the various books in the series as a cohesive whole. In this story, three orphans (a young man looking after his teenage sister and his love interest) have to negotiate their various challenges of living in a small town, of running away from their past and trying to fit in while negotiating the secrets all shifters hold dear. An entertaining and heart-warming love story with a happy ending.

Devon finds forever

The story is short but is a good read. It has humor, a bit of drama, some hot sex, and of course a happily ever after! Devon really can't believe his mate just showed up to eat where he works. His lynx is sure Jamie is their mate and Devon is tongue tied and can't remember what he is supposed to be doing. Devon has a complicated life because he is guardian for his 12 years old sister. I love Green Valley and the quirky people who live there. The turkeys keeping them from getting to their house was hilarious. I always love the family feel of Green Valley. Love the name of Devon's business but he is not broken at all. He ends up having it all.

So very good!

If you dislike the warm fuzzies then you might want to skip this book. But I'm going to suggest that you go ahead and read it, because it will change your mind and you'll forever after love the warm fuzzies! Such a good book with characters that feel so real because the author has given us an entire town of people we'd love to have as a neighbor. It's the small town everyone wishes they could find if they went looking. I really enjoyed this story. You will laugh, a lot, and possibly never look at a turkey the same way again! I hope that you read this series, because I think you'll love it too.

Love and security......

Jamie is a woman who doesn't plan ahead and left Green Valley because most of all her memories were sad one. Devon is a lynx shifter, a new member of Green Valley and was raising his little sister. Jamie returned to town because the man who raised her asked her to come be a volunteer fire fighter. So Devon was at work being a waiter and came face to face with Jamie. He knew right away that she was his mate. They spent a lot of time together and Jamie even got close to Abby, Devon's little sister. They had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner that was cooked by Abby. Devon and Jamie and Abby were all connected by love.

Jaime and Devon's Parentless Love Tryst! 3.5*****

Devon, computer programmer/ lynx shifter/ responsible older brother and parent of Abby his 12 yr old sister, met his mate, Jaime the runaway firefighter. Together they navigated dating with a 12 year old as their chaperone, shifter revelations of Green Valley, and Jaime's MIA dad, Jim, all at TGDinner, which led to a marriage proposal and Jaime putting down roots...HEA!

The characters were passable, with the usual honesty is the best policy as a theme. All characters were haunted by earlier childhood trauma that shaped them into adulthood. A quick read!!

Devon is a very shy lynx shifter, so much so that when he comes face to face with his mate, he is tongue tied.....He has ever taken care of his little sister since their parents died when he was 17 and that's it, never taken a moment for himself. His life is complicated.

Jamie is always running away from something, especially Green Valley gossip, but when she sees the waiter serving her Devon, she's afraid that her running days might be over..

Will shy Devon get Jamie to give up her Wildland fire fighting days in Alaska and stop running?

'Zoe" has done it again. Another wonderful read. Devon recognizes Jamie as his mate as soon as he meets her. Convincing her however, won't be easy. Devon was absolutely adorable and he had such a huge heart. Jamie's strength and confidence was just what he needed to bring him out of his shell. Abby was a great addition to the story. A heartwarming romance complete with a HEA. This is my honest opinion of an advanced copy I received.

Good

I liked it but liked the earlier books a tad better. This one kept referencing what happened to Jamie’s mom but didn’t give the full details. I couldn’t remember if it had been covered in one of the earlier books. Not knowing the full details other than a fire with vague references to the Fire Chief Turner left me feeling left out somewhat. Over a good sweet romantic read.

Sweet

The title is misleading; there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with Devon, a bighearted lynx shifter who's been bearing up manfully under his responsibilities for years. Jamie is a charming, footloose bit of a flake...except when it comes to her profession. Their story is sweet but rather superficial. I really want Turner's backstory, and the basis of his guilt regarding Jamie's mom!

Not Gona Run Anymore

Awesome storyline girl meets boy and he is instantly aware of how he loves her so much. Shy yet funny, geeky boy. She has stregnth enough for the both of them and if she would just stop running long enough for him to tell her. Beautiful sweet funny story. Great characters. I have been following Zoe's reading list and have noticed her growth and developing imagination in her stories. Fantastic really.

Moving to a new town with the little sister you have been raising is bad enough to cause ulcers. Add in not knowing who else might be hiding the same secret you are really ups the difficulty. There are more surprises, but you will need to read the story to discover them.

Devon is raising his sister. Jamie doesn't want to put down roots. Can two broken hearts heal each other?

I loved how adorkable Devon was. I didn't blame Jamie for being upset that everyone had been keeping a secret, but loved how she accepted the truth. I loved how devoted Devon was to his sister and Jamie. Good read!

Satisfying

Another fun, family filled love story from Zoe Chant. Boy meets girl, recognized his mate, and does all he can to get her!
Girl meets boy, wants a winter fling, and realized everything she ever wanted was in his eyes.
A dad figure, preteen sister, and know it all spinster round out the town characters.

Fun, fast, but probably forgettable. Devon is a lynx shifter who moved to a small town to give his sister a better childhood, and also in case she's a shifter too. Seems that Green Valley is a secret shifter town, and his lady love Jamie isn't too happy when she finds out that everyone's been keeping secrets from her for her whole life.

Good story about family

I read this before but decided to re-read it now during the Thanksgiving season as it deals with the true meaning of family and where we really belong. I just wish the Arthur would finally give Turner a HEA as she hinted in her afterwards. He seems so lonely.

Abit different, She returns as a favor and finds a family

Devon is a shy young man trying to raise his ,12 year old sister. When his Mate walks into his life.
A mate who says she hates the town where she grew up and was only there for the winter to help Turner who almost raised her.
It's a funny twisted story anyone would love.

Another great book.

My favorite author has done it again. A woman who always runs away to somewhere else, a Lynx raising his sister and an entire place hiding secrets. The best is how love is the answer to many questions.

Extremely sweet

Extremely sweet and very mellow. Plot moved along very smoothly and Abby stole the show. Cute kid sister. Great read if you are looking for something with no drama, some laughs and a happily ever after.

Really enjoyable quick read

The town is one of the characters in this series. Its charming & warm, like a Norman Rockwell picture. The people of Green Valley are "familiar" and homey. The romance is really sweet & sexy. Gives you the warm fuzzies for sure.

2 okay - This was a very thin shapeshifter romance, the mate bond does all the heavy lifting. It wasn't bad, just needed more meat on its bones - for example the leading lady's acknowledgement of her father future's importance to her is a brief toss off - not milked for any emotion at all.
