Dark Art

Rate this book
Since waking from a horrific car crash, Alex Hope is a changed woman. Suddenly able to hear the thoughts of everyone around her, Alex has become part of the local police force in the town where she lives in Scotland. Together with her partner, Detective Jess Love, Alex uses her gift to help solve crimes in which the most heinous acts are committed by evil and disturbed individuals. Alex and Jess return home from their holiday to find themselves immediately thrown into a new, grisly case. A piece of artwork awaits them at their Scottish home; a particularly dark piece of art depicting the horrific murder of a young woman. Upon discovering the scene from the painting splayed out in real life in their bedroom, Alex and Jess find themselves having to leave their own home-which has now become a crime scene. Jess contacts her ex-girlfriend-Kessie Clay, who is heavily involved in the local art scene as she is an artist with a gallery herself. Kessie has long-since moved on from Jess, and despite knowing many artists, claims not to know anything about the crime. Alex is suspicious of Kessie, and as more crimes are uncovered, she has more and more reason to consider her as a viable suspect. As more women go missing and upon discovering the latest of a series of crimes, Alex begins to break. The difficulty of being inside the victim’s heads, and seeing such despicable crimes, alters her irrevocably. She struggles to cope and ends up being hospitalised from the shock. With Jess concerned about her mental health, Alex agrees to counselling to help her through her ordeal. With the death toll going up and the indescribable art of the crimes being depicted at every scene, Alex begins to lose it. Never before has she struggled so hard to ‘keep it together.’ With more ‘dark art’ appearing at every turn, Alex summons up all her strength to help find the person guilty of the murders. But with confusion darkening her at every door, will she be able to solve the crimes or is she heading into a vortex of insanity from which she may not ever be able to emerge from again? Find out in…Dark Art.

AJ Estelliam loves sunsets, sandy toes and hot baths. She relaxes by writing and being able to lose herself in a fantasy world where anything is possible.
Her inspiration comes from gorgeous pictures, photos and places she visits. Alex Hope was inspired initially by a photograph...and then her story began.
AJ is currently working on more Alex Hope novels. 'I love the relationship I have written between Alex and Jess. It's an all-consuming love and they're friends, lovers and soul mates. It's the kind of love everyone is looking for really-aside from the psychic ability and murders though!'

SPOILER ALERT

I am so glad I am done with this series, it is good but it is very horrific. Though, I feel like this is book 8 part 1 because that was such a cliffhanger but also a weak one because I was in the middle of the book when I knew that counsellor was the second female killer and the main killer behind the whole gore parts. So, not much of cliffhanger but what makes me curious was how this counsellor could hypnotise Alex. I want to know how that happened and when they found Alex during that case reveal scene and also how she is going to come back from that hypnosis state... I am curious.
