Rate this book
'Captive' is the re-telling of Book 2 of The Ancestors Saga, Daughter of Ninmah, through Khalvir’s eyes. The Ancestors Saga will continue with Book 3, Enemy Tribe, launching in early 2021.

A hunter, a protector, a Raknari warrior. He is Forbidden.

Raised his entire life for the sole purpose of defending his clan, Khalvir serves the chief who saved him from certain death. A death at the hands of the hated elves; a people who see him only as an abomination to be destroyed.

Now a captive in his enemy’s clutches, Khalvir must find a way to escape the mysterious elf witch who holds him. An elf whose motives remain shrouded but whose very presence calls to his soul, threatening to turn every truth he has ever known into a lie…

I. Am. Hooked!!!

The world this author introduces us too is both familiar, and yet, absolutely, magically differs from what my mind would have imagined. All without being overly fanciful. It's feasible, and tangible enough to believe it could have been true.

The storyline, (while sometimes heart breaking), rings true without over-exaggerated brutality, or blind, love-addled romanticism to garner a broader audience.

The characters are vibrant; fulfilling in their depth, without the cloying feeling of whininess I find authors often attributing to character's thought patterns. Their woes are true woes, their happiness hard-earned, and all the sweeter for their struggles. Both internal, and external.

Many thanks to the author for this shining gem amongst identically shaped rocks.

And congratulations on her two new bundles of joy.

If you have a Facebook and you haven't liked this author's page yet, go show her some love. I sound biased, but I am positively -astounded- at the paltry 100-something likes, given the quality of her offerings.

Disappointing

Although it was to be Khalvirs story on what happened in that period I found I was skipping lots of pages as it was just what had been written in book two. I think this book was not required and the author should have continued with the storyline going forward.

Comfy chair, marshmallow quilt and one of Lori's books, bliss

I have not read a series like these since my favourite books by Jean M Auels, Clan of the cave bear saga. Captive is Khalvir's story, as he is being held in a pit, while Nyriaana tries to help him remember his past, before the clan he now lives with took him. The clans have all been raised with different beliefs and are very wary of each other. The author really captures your imagination with her descriptive writing and you just want to keep reading. These books are a fantastic read and highly recommended.

This book is for readers that like to get into the details of what a character is thinking. It does repeat a lot of the previous book, but in a way that makes motivations and reactions, particularly those of Jauan, clearer. It also shows what was happening with the "Woves" during Khalvir's absence. I think it deepens the reader's understanding of the Wove tribe in preparation for the next book.

ANew Poi nt of View

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this story told in Juuan's point of view as I have read other authors attempts to do something similar and they used too many of the same words for description and dialogue. I am happy to say that Lori Holmes did not disappoint.

A total waste of time and money!! It was basically the same book as the last one word for word 😡

Save your money and don't bother, it is word for word almost exactly the same as the second book in the series and ends at EXACTLY the same place! A complete waste of time and money 😡

This series is totally AWESOME!

The Ancestors Saga is a must read! I couldn’t put the books down and when I finished book 3 and book 4 wasn’t yet published I was lucky enough to find the companion novel to Daughter of Ninmah. Lori Holmes is now one of my favorites! Thanks!

Interesting viewpoint

It was interesting to see his captivity from Khalvir's point of view, but maybe would have been just as effective ,if not more so, blended with the other story.

I really liked that Lori Holmes took the time to write a different perspective for Daughter’s of Ninmah. I think it is important to recognize different viewpoints and think about how it changes our thinking.

Cheap tactic by author

The author takes the previous book, reverses the names of the 2 main characters and submits as the next book. Thankfully, I didn't pay for it! Skip this book, you won't miss a thing!

Great point of view

You don't normally get the chance to read the same story though the eyes of another character. I really enjoyed Juaan's side of this brilliant story from our history.

No closure.

Leaves you hanging. No conclusion. I would not have started these books if I had known that. Book three is just a retelling of book two. The story is good.

Sacrifice

This book gave you insight into book 2 on Juaan Jr. Will anyone get any happiness or will the sacrifices be for nothing?

Captive viewpoint

Captive is short novel told from Juaan/Khalvir's viewpoint. It was a challenge to match his storyline to Nyriaana's. Also getting to know some of the Wove men.

Although interesting hearing the previous book from a different perspective, this isn't what I was looking for. You could skip this and still enjoy the rest of the series.

Not an entirely necessary book to complete the series, Khalvirs point of view and feelings on what we already know, which i had questioned... so now i have the answers!

Good sequal but too much repetition if you just read the previous book.

Although I am enjoying this series, I did not feel that this book was necessary, a bit of a rehash of Book 2 and the portrayal of Khalvir was too different from Book 2, it was almost as if I was reading about two different people rather than two different points of view. It is, however, a well thought out and put together series, and for fans of Alternate History and/or Fantasy this is a must read series.
