I’m not going to give a long review of this story because the description is a good overview. I’ll just say that I don’t think this book needed a supernatural element to make it different from traditional stories tackling drug addiction and sexual abuse. The author had all the elements of a great story with characters that could have taken the reader on a journey of relapse and recovery while being a young person falling in love and insecure. Even the sisters story that playing out on the side didn’t need it either. This is coming from someone who enjoys a good supernatural romance.

Potential for Greatness but Didn't Quite Make It

*****Spoilers*****

The story was so good and I was able to finish the book but unfortunately, there was just so much wrong with the writing that it detracted from most everything else. Giancarlo is a vampire and addict who has a violent, powerful, and influential vampire father willing to do what it takes to get his son clean and on the right track at 23. Delia is a 21? year old store clerk who Giancarlo bumped into one day and couldn't let go since at that chance encounter, he realizes that Delia is his Mate. They spend a lot of time together over many months and build a friendship of sorts with undertones for more. It was slower to get there between the main characters but once it did, the sex was explosive. Otherwise, many of the things the book tried to do weren't developed or carried out well at all.

We didn't learn Gian was a prince until well into the book and don't learn what it means for him otherwise. Facts and information are thrown in seemingly haphazardly and without much consideration as to the placement in the rest of the story. At one point Delia has an over the top reaction when she learns she's pregnant, goes to share the news with Giancarlo, then completely flips her lid when she realizes Giancarlo already knew because he could scent it on her and had deceived her about it with his actions. She blows up, screams about a bunch of stuff and jumps to so many conclusions I couldn't fathom where it came from given what we knew and had learned about the characters up to that point in the book. Along for the ride in this book is her fraternal twin sister Denise's story with Stefan who refers to himself as Gian's older brother though they're not really related. We don't learn that Gian's parents are thousands of years old until late in the book. There's just so many times information is dropped randomly, I thought of so many other places it could have been placed that would have been better. There are tons of spelling and grammatical errors, word choice in some places is confusing at best, inconsistent information is peppered throughout, and at times the characters names are screwed up. All of the above made the read more difficult one to understand the what and why.

The ending left too many things unanswered. Hope to find this copy of the book, and find what happens next.

It was a good read, the beginning was a little slow, but it really picked up.
It is a multi layered book.
Looking forward to the next installment in this series, can't wait
