When Jennifer Scott and Lucy Wilson were injured in accidents near their respective homes in Cyprus and England, they had no inkling of the connection that was formed when their consciousnesses collided and linked them together within their dreams.

Both are ordinary women. Living their lives. They have never met. Yet when Jennifer goes to sleep each night, she finds herself dreaming how Lucy came to be the woman she is today. She learns of the dream house Lucy found in the Yorkshire Dales, the two daughters she adores and her happy, but ordinary, life with her husband, Charlie. When Lucy’s head hits the pillow, she is immediately transported to Jennifer’s world in Cyprus. There she learns how Jennifer met Ilan - the love of her life – and she experiences the loneliness and worry this relationship causes Jennifer.

I live on the beautiful Ards peninsula in Northern Ireland with my husband and our two rough collies.
I'm an avid fan of motorcycle racing (MotoGP and WSB) and Formula 1, having attended 33 live F1 races at various circuits in Europe. over the last 20+ years.
Reading has always been a hobby of mine and I love nothing better than escaping into the world between the pages. A couple of years ago, the seed of an idea came to me. I ran with it, purely for fun, and Rapid Eye Movement was born. Out of that came The Dreaming.
Dream Catcher, the final book in the trilogy was published in June 2022, and Bad Dreams - a Rapid Eye Movement spin-off is now available.
Collie Hair Soup, published in November 2024, is my personal account of all the rough collies and cats that have shared my life over the years. The cover image is my current rough collie - Lassie.

The cover (wow-love it!) and the book blurb sucked me in. I thought this sounded like the type of book that would straddle the line between believable and unbelievable, resulting in some major goosebumps due to life’s unexplained mysteries. Maybe the fault is mine and I had an unrealistic expectation, but overall I was disappointed as that’s not the story I got.

My rating is based on the following:
- These two women go through something that can’t be defined, but on the whole most of the book was a rehashing of normal day to day life through the eyes of the other woman. Unfortunately I found it rather boring and I ended up skipping quite a few pages

- I’m not sure if it was intentional, but there was a “stiffness” to the language of one of the couples. Maybe that was intended to highlight the differences between the two couples. If so, it was a good choice to use different writing styles. If it wasn’t intentional, then the stilted language of the Israeli made those portions seem somewhat stiff/cold. Their conversations were too formal, too uptight. And, due to that I viewed them as the “colder” couple. They didn’t emanate warmth and I wasn’t rooting for them.

- The other couple had a warmth and naturalness about them that made them relatable. Personally, I liked them better.

- I didn’t feel like I had enough time with the women working together as a team. And honestly, the turn of events was sad given their strong connection. I didn’t like the way they parted.

- Paranormal doesn’t always need an explanation. Sometime things just can’t be explained and just have to be accepted. “Why is this happening” certainly can be asked a million times because....it’s strange and like every 2 year old we want to know “why”. But for me, the theory of how/why felt like it was trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. It just muddied up the story for me.

- I would not classify this as a romance. Certainly paranormal, but not a romance.

- The conclusion just downright ticked me off. After all that time spent with these women, my heart hurt 💔 when I finished the story. Personally, that’s not the way I want to close a book.

- I did think the idea of the story was unique, but there was something lacking in the execution.

I am still unraveling myself from the surprise/shock the climax has. It is so engrossing because of its narration, the detailed description of the scenes and events that it makes the reader feel it, makes you hooked to the story to know more. The story is unique, exceptionally well written, well-edited.

I took my time to read, comprehend and enjoy this book. The ending is superb, you feel for the characters and their emotions. Highly recommend!

Mystery, thriller and in some cases a simple family life/lives
Jennifer is an interior designer and her husband Ilan have a beautiful loving life together in Cypress. His dangerous life brings on trouble for the two of them and they have to leave their home all of a sudden. During the hasty run, there is an accident.
Seemingly in an unconnected story, Lucy, her husband Charlie - who is a builder, are living very happily with two daughters and their present canine Ross, in Yorkshire. Lucy is a successful photographer and while taking photographs, she suffers a small fall and she thinks nothing more of it other than the fact that she has sprained her ankle.
The narration of their family life leading both the women to that point in their lives 'appear' normal. But what is strange is that each woman's life is told through the other woman's eyes, more specifically through the other woman's dreams.
That brings on the title of the book - Rapid Eye Movement and that is the crux of the story.
The sudden "beeping" sound that both the women hear at odd times, was perfectly chilling and quite un-understandable at first.
Which makes the ending a very nice twist and enjoyable.
Both the characters - Jennifer and Lucy were brilliantly well written. Charlie and Ilan were perfect as characters, but the story was never about them. Similarly, Claire, Gavin, Amy, Chloe, Nurit all flit through the pages and there is a reason for it.
The description, the scenes and especially the contrast in the two places of Cypress and Yorkshire were well brought out through the two women.
Unique, thrilling read.

Jennifer and Lucy live in different countries, have never met and live completely different lives. One day they both are involved in severe accidents and ever since they've been able to see each other's lives through their own dreams each night. Why are they dreaming each other's lives? Is it even real and more importantly....what will happen when one of them stops dreaming?

I was drawn to this book immediately because of the cover. I found it so haunting and then I read the blurb and it sounded so intriguing that I just had to give this one a read and I'm so glad I did! The premise sets you up for a very interesting plot and I found myself totally drawn into these women's lives. You get to learn about their relationships and careers, but through the eyes of a stranger through their dreams. I thought I'd find myself a bit confused but I didn't because each chapter is clearly labelled about whose dream you are reading about. There were a few parts that I found a bit repetitive, but overall I really enjoyed the story and thought the dialogue was really fluid and believable too.

The concept of this book is pretty mind blowing. I love all things mysterious and unexplained phenomenon's. I enjoyed the romantic relationship between Jennifer and Ilan. His job was pretty interesting!

The ending broke my heart a little bit and I was left wanting more! I wouldn't even say it's a negative, but there is a sequel so I'm definitely going to be reading that soon.

Rapid Eye Movement is my first novel. I never thought about writing a book until I got the idea for the story in my head. Even then, writing it was more a way to relax in the evenings.
The best part of writing it was the fun of doing so.
Now I'm about to finish the sequel and I'm thinking about a third installment.
I hope you enjoy reading it :)

A plot like I have never seen before. An unputdownable book. Reading through the lives of two different women and loving them in spite of their complexities. However, I didn't see the end coming. I cried as I felt the hurt and pain. Truly this book is a roller coaster of emotions. I don't think I will ever forget this story.

A well told, original story.

I would class this book as women's fiction and romance, with a paranormal mystery entwined in the story. You are brought into two women's lives and see the difference in personalities and lifestyles. A hobbyist photographer living in the country with her down to earth husband, and a well-to-do interior designer and her hot spy boyfriend.

There is quite a bit of romance and some heavy sex scenes, as well as enjoyable descriptions about their every day life and a peek into the life of a spy.

The plot revolves around the two women who start to dream about each other, they realize the dreams are consecutive and they struggle to unravel what it means. I enjoyed trying to work out what was going on and seeing the threads entwine.

Here are some lines to give an idea of the writing style...

"Iian's eyes had a haunted look, as though he had witnessed something no one should ever have to witness. His eyes, and the tired slump of his shoulders, made her anger disappear as quickly as it had manifested, to be replaced by affection and concern for him."

"The overnight frost was beginning to lift and the April sunshine gave a hint of warmth to the air though the frozen grass was still crunchy beneath their feet."

"Look, I'm sorry about Lucy. I think she swore professionally in a past life and she's reliving some of it again."

"'Right then.' He knew he was repeating himself, but he suddenly found himself to be almost in the grip of a panic attack and, as result, his vocabulary had forsaken him."

It was so good to read an indie book with a professional cover, no typos and perfectly formatted, thank you Amanda.

Intriguing!

Rapid Eye Movement is a complex read teeming with intrigue, suspense, mystery, heartache, and a surprising twist. Not a pleasant ending, but an ending none-the-less.

I loved the concept of Amanda Sheridan’s novel. Dreams fascinate me, but image dreaming about another person’s life every night, and those dreams being as vivid as reality. The two main characters Lucy and Jennifer, complete strangers, living polar opposite lives viewed the other’s daily lives in their dreams. They sensed the other’s happiness, heartaches, and physical pain. The storyline makes you question the complexity of our subconscious minds, particularly when the women’s “dream-bond” seems to grow closer as each woman struggles to survive after their accidents, leading to traumatic brain injuries and their subsequent induced comas.

Following the timeline and which character was dreaming at the beginning of the book and for quite a few chapters slowed my reading and at times became aggravating.

The intrigue, along with the surprising twist, will captivate most of you and keep you turning the pages!

Raid Eye Movement is one of those books that keeps you engrossed throughout and stays with you long after you have finished reading.
Lucy is a photographer, married to Charlie a builder; they have two daughters and live in the Yorkshire Dales. Jennifer is an interior designer, married to Ilan a secret agent and live in Cyprus.
This book tells the story of Lucy and Jennifer who are in an accident on the same day. Jennifer in a high-speed car chase, which leaves her in a coma after a head on collision. Lucy who collapses and ends up in a coma after she falls and hits her head out on the dales. The story then takes you on an unpredictable journey where both women dream of each other’s life when they fall asleep. They feel a strange connection even though they have never met and can retell the following morning every detail of the other woman’s life of which they have dreamt about.
Amanda Sheridan has done a superb job at creating a unique plot that you can immerse yourself in and not come up until the very end. The characters are lovable, the dialogue real and the intimate scenes between each couple are tastefully done.
I felt so many emotions whilst reading this story, I’ve never read anything like it and I’m looking forward to reading the next book.
A psychological fiction with lots of passion. Highly recommended!

An intriguing story!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one! The story revolves around Lucy and Jennifer, two women with totally separate lives from each other, and up crossing paths as they both have accidents and are hospitalized. Here's the kicker, they live out each others life in their dreams. The brain trauma that they both had created a strange connection to each other. Slowly, they begin to realize their plight and the deadly nature of their shared existence. I know for a fact that brain trauma can lead to some bazaar dreams and can alter one's perception of reality, so I can easily see this happening. A great story that you will love and it will keep you turning the pages just to see how it plays out! I highly recommend this one!

Paranormal psychological thrillers are not my go-to genre. Or so I thought. But Amanda Sheridan has made me a fan. Rapid Eye Movement is a well-written, intriguing tale filled with suspense and even romance. The idea that the two main characters, Lucy and Jennifer, strangers that live far apart, could dream each other's lives is a bit quirky, but Sheridan handles it with finesse, making it compelling and certainly thought-provoking. The suspense kept me eagerly turning the pages. Well done, Amanda Sheridan.

the story of two women’s lives. Lucy lives in the Yorkshire dales and Jennifer is in Cyprus. The two women are linked whilst they are asleep.

This story is nicely written - I loved the attention to detail as the plot progresses through each respective characters life. They both fall in love with the man of their dreams.

I have already bought the sequel which I look forward to reading.

Two women dream each other’s lives. You find out about Jennifer when Lucy is dreaming and learn about Lucy, when Jennifer is dreaming about her. Lucy is renovating an old farm house and Jennifer is running away from someone, but we don’t know who. The book takes us back to their youths and how they met their husbands.
The dialogue is realistic and the story is unique. Each woman becomes increasingly aware that they are living another woman’s life but both keep their dreams a secret.
I enjoyed the renovations and decorating each woman did in their homes. I felt connected to each home and understood why they loved them.
The danger that Jennifer and her husband, Iian experience adds another dimension to the story. Jennifer doesn’t exactly know what her husband is involved in and that element of intrigue is tense.
The story moved along nicely and was an enjoyable read.

I gobbled up this truly unique book on dreams and two lives. Jennifer and Lucy don't know each other, but through their nights and dreams become an integral part. Two stories in one each told by the other. A truly creative book, it will make you want to dream - maybe. I suggest this book to all looking for something new.

Jennifer is living the dream. She’s relocated to Cyprus, one of her favourite places in the world, set up a design business which is thriving, and met the man of her dreams in Ilan, an Israeli businessman of movie-star good looks who’s equally smitten with Jennifer. The only niggle on the edge of this dream is that Ilan is somewhat evasive about what exactly his business consists of. There are those who take exception to it, though, and when Jennifer and Ilan are forced to flee from them, the resulting car accident and knock on the head put Jennifer in hospital.

Meanwhile, in Yorkshire, England, Lucy is living her own dream, finding the exact right property in the perfect location to renovate with builder husband Charlie. And then, when she should be sleeping peacefully at night, she starts having disturbing dreams about herself, living an entirely different life, having a no-holds barred physical relationship with a man of movie-star good looks. This happens at the same time that Jennifer, discharged from hospital, starts having disturbing dreams about herself living an entirely different life, having a no-holds barred physical relationship with another man.

Nightmare time. Just what is going on with Jennifer and Lucy?

I don’t know if anything like this has been written before, but it not then Amanda Sheridan has come up with a very interesting and novel concept indeed. It was well-written and maintained my interest right the way through, even though I hated how it ended. I can’t say any more on that without giving anything away, so I’ll have to live with it and let other readers find out for themselves. The characters and their situations were well-drawn, I engaged with them and which is why I guess didn’t like the ending. There’s a sequel to come, I gather, and I’ll be there to read it. I can’t think of any reason for not giving this five stars, so that’s it. Five stars and a strong recommendation.

Two different women in two different parts of the world (Jennifer and Lucy) are connected somehow. They are experiencing each other’s lives, but how can this be. They try their best to figure out how this is happening and how they can stop it, or do they really want to stop it, after all it is sometimes exciting/interesting. The story keeps the reader interested and wanting to read the next chapter while at the same time trying to figure out this new phenomenon. I won’t give away the ending. This book will have you creating all sorts of scenarios in your mind as you read along with Jennifer and Lucy. Really enjoyed the book.

A very readible book, with twists, turns and intrigue. The intertwined lives of two women, strangers in their own worlds is full of possibility, bordering on the totally plausible.
There has been a lot of research into the themes intrinsic to the development of this story. The author sounds as though as know she has lived in the places she writes about and known the two women personally.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rapid Eye Movement and keenly anticipate reading the second in what could be well suited to becoming a series.

Rapid Eye Movement kept my interest throughout. I loved the concept. The book was packed with suspense, drama, tragedy and devoted love. I couldn't wait to learn more about Lucy and Jennifer's lives through their paralleled dreams. Lucy's love for Charlie and Jennifer's for Ilan was undeniable and special. Don't want to give away the ending but believe me, you will be quite surprised. I'll never think of REM the same. I highly recommend this book.

What starts as a way to get to know two separate women, living very different lifestyles, we begin to understand the personalities and worlds of Lucy and Jennifer as seen through dreams. However, these aren’t their own dreams of themselves, but rather dreams that each has of the other’s life, experienced in the first person but through the lens of the other. This was an interesting concept, especially since the two did not know each other and had never met. As we learn more in depth the details of each woman’s life, the entanglement between them becomes a slight struggle for both of them as they try to explain and reconcile the phenomenon that they are experiencing. I found myself vacillating between which of the two characters I liked better, one being ‘sexier’ and one being more traditional, which I found to be a clever narrative tool of the author. Had one or the other been clearly dislikable, it would have been easier to reconcile the theoretical decisions posed to the characters as their lives and choices came to a head. I have always been fascinated with the concept of a collective consciousness, the theory that ideas and thoughts commingle on a metaphysical level, and this book delved into this theoretical concept. The ending of the book provided an unexpected twist which I appreciated, as we were finally given something of an explanation as to what was occurring. My only disappointment was how things wrapped on, only on a personal level because I didn’t necessarily agree with the final outcome, however this was clearly the author’s prerogative and I didn’t feel that it detracted from the experience of the book as a whole.

Overall, this was a well written and thought provoking novel which left me contemplating the possibilities of the powers of the mind, and which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Amanda Sheridan’s Rapid Eye Movement is a clever story which entwines the lives of Lucy and Jennifer; women with little in common other than a powerful love for their spouse. Both women suffer a head injury due to accidents and it’s their subsequent brain injury which leads to their ‘out of body’ connection through lucid dreams.
The idea of a connection between strangers through the medium of dreams is fascinating, and this tale explores the concept in enough detail to draw the reader in and make them believe it’s really happening. Additionally, hints that both women are real flesh and blood, not figments of each other’s imagination, adds extra intrigue and a supernatural element to the tale. Is this telepathy, distance voyeurism, or a meeting of minds in limbo?
Ms Sheridan’s descriptions of Lucy and Jennifer bring both women to life and offer glimpses of their pivotal life moments, from meeting their partners, to marriage and childbirth. It’s a complete history written in a very clever and concise way. The descriptions of their homes, the countryside around them, and the lives they build for themselves are vivid and believable. I felt like I got to know both characters—testament to the strength of the writing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, my one negative being the final scenes. The crucial moment when both women realise one of them must die is not fully explained. Why did they come to this conclusion? I read this section twice thinking I’d missed something, but I didn’t find any more clues. That said, I’m intrigued to know what will happen next and, thankfully, there are sequels…
