What Readers Are "I was afraid that The Junkyard Druid was going to be another cheap Harry Dresden knockoff, but boy am I glad to be so wrong. It's hard to put into words why I enjoy this series so much. Maybe it's the humanity or the author's willingness to take on very real subjects like sex trafficking. I don't know. Whatever the reason, I'm hooked on the series." ~Matt S. "I absolutely loved these books from the 1st sentence of the beginning of book one, to the last period... Great writing. On your seat throughout each chapter. Addictive. Never want to put the book down. And you think of it when not reading. Thank you for writing these amazing books for us humans to read!" ~Laurie H. "In a genre that has become saturated by new authors, I never have a doubt about Michael’s books. They’re always exciting and give me hours of entertainment. My only complaint is he doesn’t pop out one epic novel a month!" ~Kenneth B.
M.D. Massey describes himself as the prototypical INTJ. His eclectic background provides him with a rich tapestry of experiences to draw on when crafting fiction, as evidenced by the believable worlds and relatable characters he creates.
As a former Army combat medic (91B), professional martial arts instructor (Krav Maga, JKD, FMA), and women's self-defense instructor, he possesses a unique understanding of close combat, firearms, and criminal violence that few authors can match. This knowledge provides an element of realism to the Druidverse™ novels, setting them apart from other fantasy series.
Mr. Massey lives in the Texas Hill Country with his family and a huge American bulldog that keeps him company while he writes. When he's not in his office or at the local coffee shop writing, you can find him in his garage pummeling inanimate objects or knife-fighting with his friends.
Slightly simplistic version of the druid genre. Colin is fun, but ultimately a mercenary with limited spellslinging abilities rather than a druid. Crimes and battles are won via modern weaponry and swords, with a sprinkling of "cantrips" for night vision and easily defeating any lock. Spruiked as the follow-on to Dresden or Atticus, but ultimately lands as a series of battles designed to entertain those looking for a series of references to figures of renown and little in the way of quality vocabulary. Bought the first 4 books as a set, read the first 4 books and enjoyed them just enough to finish, but won't be worrying about reading #5.
Mr. Massey has done what few authors are able to do. He brought originality to my favorite genre, while staying in the confines of the lore. It's well written and easy to get in to. Incredibly difficult to set down. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and feel invested in them. When they succeeded I cheered. They feel like real friends. Mr. Massey is right up there with master word smith Shayne silvers. If you enjoy snarky, magic, and Irish / Gaelic lore this is a must read. I cannot wait to finish this series.
I found this book a little repetitive at times especially if you are reading the series, but still really enjoyable. Characters were great, entertaining and very believable. The story line was true to course didn’t meander, but kept you wanting to read more and finish onto the next chapter. I will be purchasing the next series of the Junkyard Druid series. I definitely enjoyed this read.
I can honestly say I've never read about a druid like Colin. The story is full of action and a little gore, but it's interlaced with the funniest dialogues at the weirdest moments. It's full of movie and pop culture references and you get to meet his friends and archnemeses, and see him try not to get killed. It's realism of real actions that cause consequences is great.
I first read of Colin and his friends in the Junkyard Druid series via individual books, and loved them all. This time through, I discovered these 4 book tetrologies, and have enjoyed them even more due to the enhanced continuity of being able to just keep reading, rather than having to hunt down the next book in the series. Great idea!
Colin MCcool junkyard druid that doesn't want to be a druid or live the life he has but his own morals and views keep dragging him into insane adventure after adventure which he just happens to fluke his way out of with not much skill and heavy reliance on those around him. A very good book which I can't wait to see what Colin gets up to next 😊
I decided, after listening to this series on Audible, that I wanted to read it as well. The Audible version is excellent, but there's just something very satisfying about reading the words yourself. Still a wonderful story!
One young man who lost his first love due to an unexpected change that made him into a fairy monster for a time, learning to live with the pain and the monster within. Interesting world where Fae are a part of every day Life. Good Read.
This is a first four books of a series that you’re really gonna want to read. I’ve read a few of them ahead, but I’m gonna go ahead and try the next set and just reread the ones. I already have there that good of books to read.
I enjoyed the first two books, then they started getting more gruesome. The last book devolved into a D&D fantasy trip. Many of the motives were masked making it somewhat convoluted and dull.
A good read quite interesting in fact in some points. Some of it, not so much but I was willing to the lovely looked at for the general well goodness of the books.
A great read for those wanting both mystery and action. It will help if the reader is somewhat familiar with the pantheons of the roman, Greek and Irish gods.
