Everyone loves to sin but only the villains embrace it.
After turning a jerk’s manhood into stone, Zara is sent to the Academy for Villains—a place where troublemakers must atone for their sin or risk burning in the Underworld forever. It’s also where Hades claims she's his reincarnated wife, bad boy Loki of Asgard is determined to seduce her, and the Prince of Darkness wants to turn her into his new vampire bride.
Zara might be surrounded by villains, some of them devilishly sexy, but they have no idea what she’s capable of...and she has no idea what secrets lurk in the shadows waiting to tear her world apart.
Academy for Villains is a Hades/Persephone retelling with a Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance twist featuring various kinds of mythology in a reform school setting. 18+.
2.5 ish stars. In truth.. this book was just ok for me. It was super fast paced, I wasn't really feeling the chemistry with any of the guys.. and the plot just didn't flow all that cohesively for me if I'm honest. I mean the FMC shows up to this reform school, oh so conveniently finds out the headmaster might be her dad, then is sent on a wild goose chase for some apocalyptic weapons, which in my opinion the fact that certain people were hell bent on finding them should have thrown up some dang red flags, but meh. Not only does she have this hidden past that in all honestly hasn't yet started to make a lick of sense, she has these other "interests" that don't quite fit into that portion of the story.
Maybe the mashup of mythology as well as the attempt to do some reinvention of some of these myths is just really throwing me.. or maybe the book was just too short for me to really dig my claws into it with the info given.. I just don't feel like this series may be for me. I may revisit.. apparently I may be in a mood lol.
I'm disappointed.. I was really looking forward to this book, a dark mythology retelling, that's right up my ally. the sneak peaks looked amazing, I instantly one clicked it. I've loved everything this author has put out up until this point.
I honestly just could not get into this book, its suppose to be about an Academy for villains. however that is not at all what I read. What I read was a whole lot of instant love, very little dark, and extremely naive characters. They legit didn't question anything. The entire store was predictable.
I don't want to be mean, I know how hard authors work and I dont want to bash anyone. I just could not get into this story.
This book was so much better than I was expecting.
It is a Persephone & Hades retelling. After Chornos enters the Underworld to kill them, Persephone & Hades jump to their deaths. We next are taken to the beach to meet Zara & her sister. Both were raised by their mother by the sea & in it. Zara's mother & sister are sea witches. Zara is a gorgon.
The girls have been sentenced to the Academy for Villains to atone for their crimes. One on Captain Nemo's boat they met other students, like Loki of Asgard.
So bad. EXTREMELY fast paced, you see no real progression in the relationships between the characters, it goes from meeting, a slight mishap, to being in love. Scenes are described so badly, it constantly jumps from one thing to the next without fully explaining anything.
Received ARC from Author for Honest Review. I Give this Book a 3.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as 4 instead of 3, Cause in the end I enjoyed it.
Cliffhanger(?): Yes Heat: 3-3.5ish/5, but the scenes are super fast, blink and it’s over. Romance: 3.5/5 Drama: 3.5-4/5 Suspense: 4-4.5/5 Dark(?): No Fast Paced(?): very much so.
*Please note the review you’ll read below might sound like I’m contradicting myself with the Rating I Give this Book. But this was still a very good book
I devour anything and everything that has Hades & Persephone connections, they are the ultimate couple for me.
So...I am a little bit saddened cause this was a Highly Anticipated Read for Me. It is certainly much faster than I was anticipating, Even for Book 1 of a series. I almost felt like I was on a mega sugar rush, especially with the first half of the book. While the flow & writing is really good, I did have a bit of Issue that a lot of stuff was happening on the first day for example. I wish the events were spaced out better, not everything needs to be crammed in the first book. I also wish it was paced a bit slower, and flowed like the Everafter Academy Series.
Despite the issues I had while reading this, it is a decent read and I’m looking forward to the next book. Hopefully Book 2 will have a slower pace.
Dnf, made it to about 28% and had to call it quits. Ok so like most school books the fmc fits the bill of a child, I can totally see my own child acting this way and being pretty over the top. Second this book is moving like wild rapid tides, slow down! Wheres the fire? you have to ease in there especially when ur dropping huge bombs not even 2-3 chapters in! The execution is off, the flow is off, and the characters have no depth, and are two dimensional at best. And lastly there is a lot of everything under the sun, sometimes less is more. there happens to be many different kinds of everything for example we have hades, loki, Dracula, half gorgan, seawitch, fea, mermaid, witch, Atlantis person, cronas and the four horsemen named already, and yeah, that's only 28% of the book! Definitely not for me
This book blew me away! It was a speedy read because I couldn't put it down for a second, I absolutely adore mythologie and this has it in spades as wel as intrigue and hot man centering a kickass woman.
Its an amazing book by the crazy talented Scarlett Snow, after a lot of co works, she has hit it out of the park with her solo serie!
Twist on the Hades and Persephone myth with a splash of RH
I love Scarlett’s ability to take well known myths and stories and twist them into something unique and fascinating. That’s exactly what we have here in this book. Plenty of myths and stories and their associated characters are seen here like Captain Nemo, the Phantom of the Opera, Loki, and Dracula.
The love story between Hades and Persephone is a sweet but heartbreaking tale. I just hope that they eventually get their happily ever after even if it’s shared with Loki and Dracula, which would be perfectly okay with me.
I had a feeling Zara/Persephone’s father wasn’t all that great of a guy but I didn’t expect what actually happened!! 😱 Now I have so many more questions. Is he really her father, what about her mom, what’s the deal with her curse?!?! I need to know!! 😅
I wished that we could have had more of the emotional development of the relationships between Zara and her 3 men. It did seem like a lot of lust and physical progression (not that I’m complaining about those hot delicious scenes at all). I just didn’t get to see the emotional connection with them all as strongly as the physical connection.
There were a few times where the flow of the story seemed out of order or maybe certain scenes would have been better earlier in the story. As an example, Loki told Zara about his sister and his hatred for Dracula because of it. When she found out, she never questioned him about it and seemed to have forgotten until close to the end of the book. Then he brought it up with her and told the truth which then led to the bride conversation. I just would have expected that conversation (not the bride part) to happen much sooner. It’s my personal opinion but I think I would have been more receptive if certain scenarios occurred in a different order. 🤷🏼♀️
Overall, I loved this story and the characters. The twists on mythologies is always something I enjoy reading. I cannot wait to read the next book to see what happens next.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a highly anticipated read for me because Hades and Persephone are one of my all time favorite couples.I loved the variety of mythology and mythical creatures introduced.
I wish I could say I loved this book, but sadly I can’t.I enjoyed reading it and I liked the story line and characters, but I felt it was rushed. There were a lot of revaluations and information given before the 50% mark. That would be normal with a standalone, not a series, which is where this story is heading.
Aside from that, would I recommend this book to another person? Yes,yes I would and have in fact. This story has a little bit of everything for everyone. Suspense, romance, drama, hot love interests, and a tough as nails female who doesn’t take crap from anyone. I liked this book and that cliffhanger drew me in and has me reeling. I can’t wait for book two! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This had all the making to be a book I would fall in love with. A literary retelling (Dracula) and mythology retelling (Hades/Persephone, Loki) all rolled up into one. Now that is a lot of plot to handle and this book’s execution felt rushed and the twist just was obvious from the start in some capacity. Rule #1 of being alive, don’t take someone word for the truth especially at a VILLAIN academy.
This book could have been a fun exploration of villainy instead it was an INSTALOVE fest. I like reverse harem. That's why I read a lot of it. I feel like multiple personalities in love interests without the stress of the choice makes a book more fun. But this book had nothing but romance. It didn’t help that I didn’t feel any chemistry with any of the guys so I cannot overlook the non cohesive plot.
The quest… basically Zara and Hades (then the rest of the lads) are trying to find four objects of power for their headmaster. (That dude be skeezy but she is blind about it). They find them pretty easily and they make it a sort of competition. Hades bets to win a date with Zara which he does. Not even the adventure part could keep the dudes from putting the moves on Zara.
To achieve what this book could have been it needed to be longer and dare I say slower paced? I hate slow books but this book needs to take a chill pill with its pacing. I’ll still continue. 1.75 stars. Not bad, bad but a disappointment. I want to see this author improve her writing over time.
I wanted to love this, I really did! I am a huge fan of stories written on/based on mythology..and one based on villains called to the wicked side of me. This has a fantastic premise and the snippet drew me to read this as soon as it was released, but I’m afraid I was left wanting. The book moved too quickly to draw me in and had me rolling my eyes more often than not. Again, I loved the idea of the book, but the progression had me cringing more often than not...and I’m typically fairly loose with my ratings. If you are looking for a fast progression with little world building or character development then this might be for you. I too enjoy quick fluff more often than not. This just didn’t quite cut it for me.
I started off really excited for the concept, a bunch of villains thrown together. Unfortunately, they really were just thrown together. The assortment of villains was completely random. The plot was silly and underdeveloped, the characters were flat, immature, and predictable, and in a very disappointing turn of events, there were very few actual bad guys in this book. Most "villains" at this school were just misunderstood or in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Also, it ends on a "cliffhanger" that really just feels like a cheap way of forcing you to buy another inane book in the hopes that you find out something of actual interest from this book.
I actually cracked up at the reason why Zara (FMC) ended up in the Academy of Villains. Just for some unusual jewellery, lol. Loved Zara and her sister Murie from the very start. Yes they dont fit into the academy but they find a way of not letting it bother them too much. Especially with the complications of unearthed family, important tasks as well as three so called villains - Hades (who has history with Zara), Drac (son of Dracula) and Loki (son of asgard). All with the intention of getting their hands on Zara which brings problems of its own. My god this book is a flaming great read and that cliffhanger ending was absolutely killer!! Cant wait for the next book
There was no big battle or induction the end was coming, but I was in tears. Good job. The only sucky part was I knew who the true villain was all along. I also didn't like how she did talk to the guys about her feelings for them. She needed to make it clear, "Yes, I want to be with you, but I also want to be with them. If you're okay with that..." Something like that. Except she just kisses them or more. But the romance was cute though a little rushed. I loved her wit and her relationship with her sister. I can't wait until the next book. It's taking too long. I recommend this book if you like villains, magic, gods, and instant love. Its definitely a fun book.
Omg!!! I loved this story!!! Yes darn you cliffhanger!!! Right when I got some answers I get hit with that cliffhanger. If you love any stories with villains seriously read this story. Scarlett Snow always surprises me with her stories. She is just a freaking fantastic author. Read this story literally in one sitting. Another story I just had to read all the way through right away. Loved the characters and the storyline. I need the next book. Highly recommend reading. You will absolutely love Zara and the guys. I won’t give away spoilers so read this story!!!
What a fun and exciting book. Zara is such a spunky and fiesty heroine, she made this book from great to spectacular. The academy of villains is similar to a prison but with a twist, all about redemption. Zara's men were intriguing, hot and such perfect companions to Zara's firey personality. This book will have you laughing, smiling and swooning. The past with Hades had me itching for more and I can't wait for the next book! Scarlett Snow is a genius when it comes to amazing dialogue and fantasy story writing!
This story was kind of engrossing - it just pulls you in. It is definitely a twist in the Persephone and Hades retelling but a really cool one. So Zara is Persephone reborn as Medusa and although she manages to find Hades without remembering their past she also falls for Dracula and Loki. I thought the story was great overall - cute, funny and different. The ending is quite the cliffhanger and so not what I expected. I'll now have to sit on pins and needles till the next book but it was worth it.
As much l looked forward to reading this book, so quickly my enthusiasm left me. I'd expected a rougher heroine, but she just fells in love with all the main male characters too quickly. She was really naive, too. She seemed to me like a puppet, letting others do whatever they wanted to do with her - for example Mr Knightford. She didn't even try to look at things from more points of view - for example the relics. This is the reason why I just give it 2 stars.
But this is just my opinion and my way of reading. I just think I have high expectations from this book. It's a good book if you just want to relax and forget about the world around you.

Villainous Hearts is the first book in another very promising series written by this author. I loved how she played with ancient myths to bring these characters to life. I can't say a lot without spoiling the entire plot, but I will tell you that I am ready for the next book, because this book definitely drew me in. I liked the characters and I really want to see how things will play out in the future.
This is an amazing read that will take you away from your everyday reality to a whole new world. The characters are unique and you feel as though you know them and no matter what you want to be there for them, no matter what they need to do. The story grabs you and wont let you leave until you reach the last page, at which time you need more. This book has to be read,so add to your TBR list you will not be sorry that you did.
I seriously cannot tell you how much I love this book!!! Scarlett's version of the Hades and Persephone is pure magic!! Plus Zara has a couple of other love interests Loki and Dracula. The tension between the guys is spot on. The connection she has to each of them is great!! This book will hook you within the first few pages of the prologue. I seriously couldn't put this down!! I can't wait for the next one.
Zara is the fmc, she's sent to Academy for Villains with her sister While there she meets Loki , Hades , Drac First time Zara meets Hades she pushes him into the water. 😂 The guys don't get a long with each other to much of a past between Loki and Drc hopefully they can sort it out . The ending was kind of shocking when we found out Cronus was there the whole time. Can't wait for the next book !! 🖤
DNF. Really disappointed as I have been looking forward to reading this book as it sounded so good! It was way too rushed, things happened and there was no detail or explanation, the author just moved on to the next thing. The h was also very annoying and not likeable at all. She was rude and thought she was right about everything when she clearly wasn’t and all the characters acted like they were children. The writing also felt very childish.
Hades and Persephone is perhaps one of my favorite ancient myths. I was looking forward to a story that puts a new twist to their relationship. Like others commented, this book is very fast paced and the steamy scenes go by quickly. I also expected, given the author, a book that was more dark and depraved - given it is an academy for villains after all. I am hoping in the books to come that it goes down a darker and more twisted path to make my little black heart happy.
Okay so I have been dying in wait for this book to be released! Once I saw it was released I snapped it up ready to read at the end of the day! Well I started it just before I went to bed and I have now just finished it at midnight...
The story and characters are addictive and I absolutely love Zara (fmc) bee spunky attitude and I’ll turn your weenie to stone attitudemafe the story amazing to read! It helped that she had three yummy villains falling over themselves chasing after her!
I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more world development and relationship development. It was just BAM sex on the first date right after killing a rogue vampire in the forest. Also there wasn't any talk about being with multiple guys with any of her guys. I liked the mystery and I was always suspicious of her 'dad' Mr. Knightford.
What a great twist on a classic story. Zara isn’t weak or helpless and the men she’s spending time with all have their demons. Hades with his love for Zara, but she doesn’t remember. Loki who sees Zara for who she really is curse and all and Dracula son of the Count who is one of Zara’s soulmates. What an adventure this will be.
It reads like it was written by a very new writer. Technical skills were good, but the storytelling was not. I would be interested in trying another book by this author once they have more practice. It is not worth spending money on, but with KU, it has an interesting concept. It was a DNF for me, though
