The book title threw me off. I thought it would help my writing production but couldn't find but anything outside other than to dictate the writing, have someone transcribe it, and another person to edit it. Its focus is to produce quick books to sell you something else. In other words, a marketing technique. Not my focus. I'm sure if you have these focuses, this would be a great book for your. Just not for me at this time. It was evasive on the what I call real how to's. I think I should have read the title better at the beginning.
I weaved in and out of chapters looking for something I could sink my teeth into (fits within my goals, objectives) and didn't find it.
He did accomplish a goal though, to write a sbook (his name for a short book) in a few hours. It did lead me to understand writing a book for marketing purposes isn't as difficult as it's lead to believe.
I read other ebooks on this technique that had more meat and bones. If you are looking for a quick version, I gave you the how-to in this review.
Short Book – Concise Nugget Read. Just the Essence of the Subject!
I made two fortuitous discoveries this week. One was this book. The other was experimenting with getting a lengthy pdf to a group of friends who were traveling and making it easy to access as a ‘sort of’ ebook.
I do a lot of research on very heady administrative medical legal topics and need to share my composite findings with select colleagues. So I experimented with converting my otherwise plain-jane pdf to an epub format, mainly for ease of my colleagues’ accessing while traveling.
A little fiddling with fonts and formatting and it was done. I opened it in Kindle reader for Mac and it looked like a two-column ebook! Damn! And it contained the essence of an issue that I’d carefully researched and synthesized. Well, that was an eye-opener! Of course, if it were to be a generally accessible ebook, I’d need to gussie it up with a cover, etc. But … for later.
Then, I happen to be on Amazon and was reviewing the usefulness of my Kindle Unlimited account ... “am I really using this in the way I should …? or am I just wasting $ having a bunch of fascinating ebooks laying around, frustrating me because of my poor allocation of time needed to read them! ?
And I once again I come across Mike Capuzzi’s Magic of Short Books in my saved books. And, I know, I’m a bit slow, but this time around it dawned on me “well, damn, you just published a rather nifty nugget of needed info for your top tier colleagues, and you made it available in epub format so they could fancily turn the pages while sitting in first class, what the hell was that but a free ebook!
And I dove into Mike’s crystalization of making short books, and had that same “well, damn!”
Now of course, I’ve got to go back into it and actually work through the steps systematically and get the compiled document done.
But hey, there’s a road map for this process and it’s not some 500 page tome from writers digest.
All said … if you’re thinking of making the leap (actually just a hop and a skip with this methodology) into getting a book out there, you’d do well to start here.
And maybe to get your appetite whetted (is that the correct phraseology?), experiment with exporting one of your pieces to epub format and sending it to your ebook reader (Kindle, or Apple’s Books for example) and actually see what it looks like.
Now, I’m talking to myself here as much as I’m talking to you, dear comment reader, stop hemming and hawing and get the damn thing done! The Magic of Short Books gives you the entire blueprint.
I have had several book subjects in my head for years, one for a couple of decades! But the task seemed daunting when thinking about how to organize it, write it with the ease of flow the many books have had that I have read, design, and oh my goodness, the monster of marketing it if ever got that far. The concept of writing a shook, or for me what would be a series of shooks and most likely study or group guides, literally made me squeel with delight and wiggle out my version of a happy dance as I finished the last page, hopped out of bed and quickly wrote down 16 (!) possible shooks that could be created to inform and help readers with a HUGE problem most people have today with no clue how to make meaningful change. And I just so happen to have a degree and almost 40 years accumulated knowledge in this particular subject! Mr. Capuzzi generously outlines step by step what is required to accomplish this, and suggestions on a number of additional things to consider including that might fit for you. He also includes some useful websites and other resources he has used and found to be helpful. And, if you would like an experienced person to help you through the process and provide many of the services you will need to create a successful shook, he is available, personally, to be at your service! Many thanks, Mr Capuzzi! I am going to read the two books you mentioned while getting a more solid, organized idea of what I want to present to the world in my first shook, then may just be giving you a call! Highly recommend for anyone who has been intimidated by the idea of writing that non-fiction book that has been burning inside of them!
This is aimed at non-fiction where a "short book" is basically a pamphlet to brag about your business or something. It's a very different type of storytelling than genre fiction but unfortunately, it's been targeted toward fiction authors and categorized with 'writing craft' material.
The true reader of this material - those who would gain the most benefit from it - are business leaders and entrepreneurs. The author says as much in the opening portion so IDK why it isn't categorized on Amazon properly. As a fiction author looking to expand my knowledge about short stories and the market for them, I was misled and disappointed.
This book is a good read for someone who is completely new to the idea (I am not) and who needs some inspiration in how to move forward with a short book.
The content is stretched into a longer piece to fill a 100 page book (he explains this in the book) with a lot of repetition. This could easily be a blog post but it would not serve its purpose that way.
It is a quick read (an hour or so) and if you know nothing about how to move forward with your idea of writing a book, I do recommend it. His goal is to get you into one of his author programs. Both of which are offered at a decent investment level.
Great for any author who is thinking about writing a series of books!
I published my very first book, A Spiritual Alchemy Journey of Self-Exploration in March of 2023 after writing it in 35 days.
After about two weeks I had the itch to start on a series. I even knew what the topics would be! This book is a huge confirmation that I'm on the right path in writing my series. It is full of great tips to help you get started as well as remind you of steps needed for it all to come into fruition.
But the action is all up to you. Are you ready to take action on writing your short book?
Useful for promoting a business or publishing a short book to help people with a specific problem. Whatever the case, this book is a complete guide to getting your voice heard via a shook or small book. It includes the reasons small books may be a better strategy for what you want to write about. Enjoy
I wish I would have found this shook before publishing my first book. I probably would have started here. Nevertheless, there is so much great information in this book I highly encourage you to pick it up.
It took me 2 hours to read this book because I actually did the suggested work while reading. While I read this book in kindle unlimited, I’m going to buy the book because it was so helpful.
I just finished the 2nd draft if my 100,000 word book. After reading Mike 's book, I've decided to publish it as 10 "shooks" instead. I'm super stoked about it!
This is a great overview to publish your own short book to attract more clients to your business. It might be a bit salesy for some but I feel salesy is better than brokey:)
Learned lots of little things! If your looking for a way to boost blog traffic or help establish yourself as an expert; this book is for you, especially if you're new to short books.
Wow. A high impact marketing strategy for creating focused short books to satisfy a single need for the customer in a direct way. Excellent strategies listed on how to use the “shook” (short helpful book) with a very straightforward path to creating them.
It was an informative quick read. I thought it gave some really practical and easy to follow insights on publishing your shook ( short book ) ! I’m happy for Mike and the success he’s had , as well as the success he’s helped others achieve.
