Collects New Mutants Annual #7, New Warriors Annual #1, X-Men Annual #15, X-Factor Annual #6.
Toast to the Kings of Pain. And woe to their enemies. Unseen schemers plot the X-Men's demise. And what better way to tear the mutants asunder than to ressurrect the reality-warping Proteus!
Fabian Nicieza is a writer and editor who is best known as the co-creator of DEADPOOL and for his work on Marvel titles such as X-Men, X-Force, New Warriors, and Robin.
His first novel, the Edgar Award-nominated SUBURBAN DICKS, a sarcastic murder mystery, is on sale now from Putnam Books.
The Dicks will return in THE SELF-MADE WIDOW, coming June 21st.
This continues the trend of writing crossover stories between various books’ annuals. Kings of Pain has some import and a connection to a major tragic villain from the past. But nothing really stands out save for some important touches of continuity.
The books in order are:
New Mutants (but they already call themselves X-Force: I needed to look up when this dropped in relation to the end of New Mutants.) New Warriors (a hip early 90s team to accompany all the X-Teams we’ll include) Uncanny X-Men X-Factor
The Freedom Force backup story tells of the dissolution of the villains-turned-government-employees team. Ironically, I remembered this story better than the “main” story of the annuals.
2 stelle e mezza.
