12 was fucking fantastic. Great haunted mansion story that was, turn on the light scary at times. The ghosts were unique and really stood out as their own characters. Oh, and the twist at the end, I never in a million years would have guessed it. Highly recommend, I am giving this 6/5 stars 😊.
There are a lot of elements that make this story fantastic. The first is the 13 Ghosts feel of the story, although that is actually the least important to me.
The evillest of ghosts and their backstories are beyond top notch. A lot of thought went into the twelve worst of the worst stuck in Sanderson House. The vileness of these ghosts were realized in perfect 4D.
Then there's Richard, the perfectly flawed hero of the story. You'll feel for him, absolutely hate him, and then feel for him again.
The third act twists and revelations are fantastically written and have a punch that will leave you both breathless and shocked. WTF will be your solid reaction as everything becomes clear.
This duo has me in love with the horror perfection they've created. Don't sleep on this one.
I went into this expecting it to be very predictable. It really reminded me of the movie "Thirteen Ghosts". (Which I loved) However, I was pleasantly surprised by several of the twists in the story and found that it kept me pulled in from start to finish. It was well written, engaging, spooky, and I read it in a day and a half. I had been in a reading slump and this book was perfect for getting me enthusiastic about reading again.
An absolutely outstanding book by two of my favourite writers, an author buys a big house on the outskirts of a little village and he and his best friend move in so he can work on his latest book, unbeknown to them they aren't the only occupants and their housemates aren't very sociable. If you like ghost stories, blood, guts and terror this is definitely the book for you, if you don't like those things try it anyway as after reading this you very likely will
This was a haunted house, paranormal, psychological roller coaster! Buckle in real tight you will be in for a ride!
What do you do when you purchase a house for half a million, just two find out that there is 800 ghosts but 12 of them are so sinister they reek havoc on anyone who steps inside!
This book has some interesting ideas and some good horror imagery, but the typos, grammar mistakes, and amateurish, repetitive writing greatly distract from any of the possibly good elements. If you've ever wondered how many times a laugh can be described as a chuckle, how many times a person's face can be said to crease into a smile, or how many times the main character can be described as either bearded or an author, this is the book for you! These are just a few of the words and phrases that are repeated ad nauseum throughout the novel and it becomes impossible to read past them after a while.
Plot wise, the book has a few contrived twists, most of which are nonsensical and ridiculous. I won't spoil anything except to say that you're better off just skipping this one entirely.
