Check off the bucket list? Maybe Love should be added to the list?
David Rowan spends his days crunching numbers and his nights watching history or travel shows. He’d been out of school for four years when a note from a fraternity brother reminded him of his “Bucket List” that they’d made up one year for pledges at the fraternity as a ‘get to know the brothers’ activity. But maybe it was time for him to take his list and make it a reality.
Loch Gallagher—yes, his ma had a sense of humor—lives and swims in and around Loch Ness just a little south of Inverness, Scotland. Okay, every time he went for a swim in the Loch, he did cause a stir. Shite, with the inventions of the camera and the smartphone, a Loch Monster couldn’t even get in a swim without someone taking a picture.
When David decided to take his ‘trip of a lifetime’ to Loch Ness, how was he to know that everything he’d always known was going to be thrown out the window? Loch had always scoffed at his ma’s declarations that when he was least expecting it, his mate would show up on his doorstep. The unlikely pair discovers that maybe they’re

David Rowan finally gets a break at the end of tax season when his assistant arranges a vacation for him that was on his bucket list from his college days. The accountant is going to go to Scotland to hunt for the Loch Ness Monster, aka Nessie. But really, he just wants a rest and time to enjoy the gorgeous scenery of the beautiful, very green countryside. He ends up at a Bed and Breakfast run by a lovely busybody, with the help of her large family that includes her son, Loch, a talented artist.
The family is keeping a very big secret—they are shifters and are the infamous Loch Ness monsters captured on camera by tourists and hunters. The reason they’ve never been found? They shift back and come ashore as people. One night, David spots Loch leaving the lake, but not in his monster form—in his very naked, bubble-butt form—and it intrigues the young man to learn more about the handsome artist.
I enjoyed this story—from the MCs to the family members including the nephews—little monsters—to Isla, the mom, and to G-pa, who strips off his clothes and jumps overboard on a scenic tour Loch is doing for David. It’s a sweet tale, with humor and great characters—two sweet men who find a way to be together, and of course, a HEA.
This was so cute. It is a nice little short about a guy that is just sort of going through the motions but doesn’t realize he’s not really happy until he takes a break and sees another way of life.
Loving Loch is the story of David and Loch.... David takes a bucket list vacation to Scotland, following up on a vow to find the Loch Ness Monster from his college days. Not sure WHY he thought that was a good idea, but needing the vacation his assistant arranges for him, he takes off on his adventure. And what an adventure it is! And the monster he finds.... Yum!
Kris Jacen is known for her editing (and sweet personality!), but has been doing some writing on her own. I've recently read all of her books, some for the second time, and I have enjoyed watching her progress. Not that her frst book was bad by any means, but it was a first book. Her skill has improved with each book she's written, and this one was well done! It is short, so there's no time for a ton of backstory for David and Loch, but there is enough to get a reader engaged. There is a nice cast of side characters in Scotland, who turn out to be the family that David needs. And Loch turns out to be the man that David needs as well! There's a little sex, a little love, a little paranormal something-something, and a happy ending. I thought it all worked quite well!
This is a quick enjoyable little paranormal story, and it was just what I needed to read on a snowy day. If you are looking for something to distract you for a couple of hours, I'd give this one a try!
Cute story about fated mates, including a brilliant Loch Ness Monster concept. This story just barely touches the surface of the legendary creature, though. David and Loch have several points of contact as they get to know each other, and that's the main focus of the story. I have my fingers crossed that we get more shifter page time in the next installment.
This is a joyful, super adorable read! Who doesn’t fantasize about taking a trip to Scotland and finding your place in the world? This is a great “pick me up “ story.
A quick and easy read about fated mates between an unsuspecting human and a family of nessies. Since it's short it doesn't get too deep into details or character development but still a fun story.
This is a cute story and a quick read. There isn’t much in the way of character development or background and not a lot to the plot but it was a fun, no angst read.
