April Green’s ‘Bloom for Yourself’ is a beautiful, tender book of poetic writing, woven into spiritual lessons on healing, growth, faith, and self-love.
April’s approach to writing is visceral; giving readers layer upon layer of thought-provoking optimism and faith. Her words are shared by thousands of people all over the world, including Jenna Dewan Tatum and Shantel Vansanten.
‘Bloom for Yourself’ is a book for anyone feeling lost, alone, depressed or unworthy. It is a book to be read many times over as you come to experience April’s extraordinary gift for helping you understand that you are never truly alone.
Read this book on a whim with kindle unlimited, and was completely blown away by its beauty and rawness. I never normally read poetry, but this book seems to be an exception. It is quite short with a lot of white space, but I know it'll be a book I need to keep coming back to. There is a lot of emphasis on self-love and acceptance, as well as emotions I struggle to describe in words and yet April does it effortlessly. There is also a part two to this book, which was also very good and I would recommend - both very soulful reads. I've already gone ahead and purchased a paperback copy!
What a lovely change to my usual reading. This book is filled with soothing, inspiring and sensitive poems and prose poems about healing, self-love and peace - refreshing!
"and the moon looked down on her and said: you are too full of everything that makes you whole to ever be loved in halves" I've been follow April Green on Instagram and Twitter forever and have always adored her writing. I finally got the opportunity to inhale her poetry book this weekend and I think I love her writing anymore if that's even possible. Her words give hope to those who long for it. Her poetry shows love to those who need it the most. This collection is everything. I'd highly suggest anyone needing a pick me up or self esteem boost to read it. She made me want to start writing again. ❤
I picked this up because I discovered that a quote I’ve loved for years came from this book:
Wild woman —
do not be afraid to dance alone.
(the earth has been waiting for you)
That’s still my favorite page of this book.
I was a little nervous going into this because it was written in 2017, which was still the tumblr poetry era. I expected it to be more of the same poetry I’ve read a lot of. Some of it was repetitive but there were definitely some impactful ones. I tabbed 24 out of 162 poems, I feel like that deserves a 3 star. I love the nature imagery and self love theme but it didn’t do anything ground breaking. A solid self love poetry book.
this was like advice and apparitions in the form of poetry and prose that formed a sticky sweet candy hard filled with liquid gold. this is good if you need a reminder of how worthy you are, how enough you are, and how much you need to love yourself.
I’ve followed April’s writing on Instagram for a while and was incredibly excited to get my hands on this. It so did not disappoint. Not only did it include my personal favourite (pg 73) there were plenty of new ones I loved too. Her writing about self love and healing is wonderful and she’ll always be an inspiration to me.
Edit 2018: so I’m having a pretty rough time in therapy at the moment (ptsd is a bitch) and I picked this book up late at night when I couldn’t sleep. I can’t even begin to describe the calm and hope these poems bring to me. It’s wonderful, and beautiful, and so, so healing.
Everything on this was about the imagery and that was perfectly enough to distract me from the idea of healing ( a watched pot never boils) and actually feel better once i finished reading this. However, the section about haiku, some off the pieces were actual senryus because they were about emotion/ relationships in place off nature. Anyway! Great read all around.
What a sensational book of inspiring poetry. I loved every piece of art in this book and read every sentence with absolute empowerment and joy. Green really lends herself to the emotional reader and I truly love that about her. Her words are not only inspiring but uplifting too. Thank you for the purity that I felt throughout this book Green!
Beautifully written. Very inspiring and she is the type of author I will definitely be buying more from. I got this book as a gift and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Will be buying her other books.
