Morgan has no problem killing the king, especially since the alternative is being locked away for all her other murders... But he doesn't make it easy.
First off, he's a bearded, sexy wild man who chops firewood shirtless in his backyard. Second? He's created an entire dimension hidden from the human realm, where he controls everything.
Literally everything.
The longer she's in his realm, the more she realizes he's wiggled his way under her skin with his sexy smirk and stupid beard. What's worse? She might let him end the world if she gets to keep him.
DNF Meh. No chemistry, and I was bored for the majority of it. Has some potential so I wouldn't completely write it off for other fantasy readers, but it's not for me.
"Morgan didn’t know many people who would invite a murderer to breakfast."
SUMMARY Morgan has been alive for centuries and just wants to be left alone in her cottage secluded in the woods. When three creatures come to her door and ask her to use her powers to kill the Mountain King, one of the four Fae Kings, she laughs in their faces. But when they threaten to turn her in to the magical authorities for a crime she hid, she realizes she has no choice but fulfill their demands to avoid prison.
When Morgan arrives in the Mountain King's land and fails in her first attempt to kill him, she finds herself trapped. The longer she spends in his realm, the more she finds herself tempted by this sexy King. And when she learns that their is more to his power than meets the eye, she must make the choice to kill him or save him.
REVIEW If you are someone who is for the environment and believes we need to take climate change more seriously, you will definitely vibe with this book. If you abhor the sentence I just wrote... avoid this book, please. If you are 50/50 on the environment, read this book but understand that there are a lot of conversations about how urbanization has impacted the environment.
I freaking adored Morgan. She has become a new favourite of mine. Too often I have read paranormal romances where the female is either human or significantly weaker than the male love-interest. That was not the case here. Instead Morgan's power not only rivals that of the Fae King, but she is able to kick his ass a little with it.
This book was also beautifully written and had a lot of world-building when it came to the different creatures and rules of the worlds.
One issue I had with this book was that our characters were given heavy backstories and trauma, but neither were delved in to. I was very bothered that we were given the following quote, but then never actually learned anything about it: "Morgan wasn’t a trusting woman. She’d been threatened, beaten, raped, destroyed beyond measure. And that was just in the first fifty years of her life." I dislike when a book gives a female trauma just to explain why she is so closed off from the love-interest. This is why I removed a full star.
The other star I removed was because we were told that our two characters had this deep and magical connection that drew them to one another. But this was never addressed. It seemed, to me, like their connection was akin to a mating bond. But, instead, we just see that because they both practice similar magic, they want to jump the others bones. I needed a more real and concrete connection between them.
There was a sneak-peak into the second book of this series, and it did intrigue me. So I do plan to continue on.
This book is AWESOME! I was thoroughly captivated from the first page.
Elizabeth Frost is a new pen name for one of my all time favorite authors, so I knew going in that I was going to love this book. I was sooo right. First of all, the world is amazing. Fae, Vampires, Werewolves and Witches in modern times? Bring it the heck on! Multidimensional travel? Heck yeah! Here for it!
The setting for this series is perfection. This author does world building better than almost every other New Adult style Fantasy author that I have read. The descriptions are vibrant and detailed, without feeling like there are hours of world building before the story begins. It helps that we are discovering this new world along with Morgan, so we get to experience it for the first time through the eyes of someone also seeing it for the first time. Insanely clever on the part of Ms. Frost. The best part is, the picture painted is gorgeous. I love this world. I love the creatures in it. I want to visit.
Morgan, a hedge witch (Witches are always my favorite) is tenacious and vivacious in a way I just love. She kicks ass but is also gentle and nurturing, a real "Do no harm, but take no shit" kind of lady. A heroine I can get behind. She is the uncontested hero of this book. Spoiler! Morgan saves the world. She is amazing!
Liam, the King of the Mountains, is a fantastic. First of all, he created an entire world in which he and his people can live in peace. Secondly, what they do there is mostly rescue plants. There is not a single thing about this world, and it's king, that I don't love. I love the members of the spring court. I love all of the detailed little faeries. I love the big bearded mountain man! (I'm married to a big bearded mountain man. Can confirm: They are the best!)
This entire story is just awesome. The character development, the plot as it unfolds, the world building: Perfection.
I'm going to wrap up this review before I go on too long, but suffice it to say, I HAVE FEELINGS!

Green Magic, Faeries, Witches, and sexy faerie kings? Yes Please! This book captured me from the first page and it was so hard to put down. When I heard there would be witches, faeries, Magic, and romance, I was 100% onboard. This world Elizabeth has written is lush with all types of magical creatures, humor, romance, action, and drama. The world building was smooth and easy to understand. I really enjoyed the main characters, they had great chemistry and the romance felt natural. Morgan was hilarious, witty, ruthless, relatable, and an all around baddie. Liam was broody but also very charming, caring, and let’s not forget sexy! I was rooting for them(see what I did there😉) and I didn’t want it to end. This was a great start to this series and I cannot wait to read about the other faerie Kings! 4.5/5 ⭐️!
The author did it again. I really do like a good read about the fantasy world, and this is one. Faerie vs. witch....with some twists and turns along the way. Awesome world- and character building, it reads nicely, is coherent and transports you to the realm of the Mountain King in the blink of an eye. The steamy scenes are ok, dialogues also, and the plot is kind of modern - adapted to the current times we are living in. I can only say, nature is lucky to have Liam, and the human race is lucky to have Morgan. Let the magic begin! Very much recommended read.
This book was such a disappointing read. Considering Elizabeth Frost is a pen name for one of my favourite authors, I thought I was going to love this book. It turns out I didn't. Her marvellous writing style was there, but the plot was not. It was so dull I considered DFNing it throughout the last 40%.
I absolutely adore Fae stories, especially those that involve romantic fantasy however it can be hard to find a book that balances storytelling, action and romance. King of the Mountains by Elizabeth Frost does just that. Morgan is a witch who has spent the better part of 500 years alone. She is approached by several other magical creatures and asked to kill the King of the Mountain before he exterminates humanity. What follows is an extremely interesting tale that explores Liam's realm and the developing relationship between Morgan and Liam.
Characters: Morgan: Morgan is a hedge witch who has lived alone for 500 years and has experienced the worst that humanity has to offer. She's beautiful, strong and very capable. Exploring her growth throughout the story was rewarding. Liam: Liam is the King of the Mountain who has created his own green realm similar to a forest paradise. Liam is kind but has a dark side that I won't spoil for you. I was really intrigued by him and of course he's super sexy.
World building: The storyline of the Fae and the large world is very intriguing. There is magic, danger and intricacy throughout the story that just breaks the surface and shows so much potential. I did feel satisfied with the answers we received from this story but definitely feels that there is more to discover in subsequent books, I will definitely be reading the next three books!
Plot: The story takes place in both the world of the Fae and the human world. It speaks to some of the broader issues with humanity and in our society. I found the plot intriguing and interesting. It did have a HEA, which I prefer over leaving me with a cliff hanger.
If you like reading Sarah Mass or Karen Marie Moning, you must read this book!. There are some steamy scenes, so definitely more NA than YA. King of the Mountains is well written, has deep/well developed characters and is fast paced with a satisfying ending. I can't wait to read the next book!
I am usually not so much into primarily romance books, but I enjoyed many stories the author published under her civil name, so I decided to give a go to her more contemporary stories. The biggest forte of this book is definitely atmosphere. Also, the worldbuilding based on earth element and plants is well worked through and I loved the images of this world in my mind. Characters are nicely balanced, not too perfect, not too stereotypical, I liked them. However I believe the author had much more backstory for them than the genre and length of the book allows to show, so I often missed a longer excursions to their past. But yeah, I bought a romance book, right? So, as I mentioned, this is not the genre I enjoy by default, so the relationship was quite quick, Morgan and Liam felt in love based on strong attraction only.... but hey, I guess this is what the genre is about, so the wrong is on my side. The relationship seemed healthy to me and the steamy parts had a good amount of realism, so everything is fine. To sum it up, I enjoyed this book and if you are into fantasy urban romance, it is a nice choice.
First, I must say I really love Morgan. She is cautious of outsiders, guards herself from pretty much everything that isn't her plants. At the begining of the story she is recruited to kill a Fae King, and she sets off to do just that. Of course it is never that simple and she ends up trapped with him. One of my favorite things about this book is the way the author describes the relationship between Morgan and her plants, the way they call out to her and how she wishes nothing more than to help the thrive. The contentment she finds in them is heartwarming. Now, Liam. Liam's rugged exterior drew me in, but what sold me was the different way he thought about things. It was refreshing to see the Fae's more inhuman nature and ties to the Earth. Sometimes I feel they are too humanized in books and lose their otherworldly appeal. Not in this book! I can't wait for the next addition!
This was such a unique and fun read that I'm excited is a rapidly releasing series so we can continue to explore this world. It was intriguing to learn about the prophecy and understand that something has to happen but not seeing a solution that is win-win. I'm looking forward to seeing more of how that plays out.
NA, for anyone worried this will be too young. Urban Fantasy but most of this book is spent in a fantasy world setting. This books story has wrapped up a little but the overarching plot is still up in the air. I liked the connection between our two main characters and the way they played off of one another. The dual POV helped to explain their inner turmoil and struggles without making the story clunky or repetitive.
I enjoyed this for the most part. There were some major issues raised that weren't addressed. I was hoping they might be addressed in the prologue, but it was a teaser for the next book instead, which I am very eager to read.
Maybe they'll be addressed at some point in the series, but with each book featuring a different element and couple, it might just be hopeful wishing.
I know Elizabeth Frost is supposed to be the sexier and more explicit than the novel's Emma Hamm publishes under her own name, but I didn't think they were that much different. Those tend to be more tension filled and exquisite slow burns. These aren't the opposite, but it's still to early to tell, only one title in.
The King of Mountains provided a great escape into a romantic fantasy world. The characters had both likable - not likable personality characteristics, and they changed over the course of the book, making it an interesting story. I thought the descriptions of where each lived took me there. I wanted more from the faeries and side characters. I hope that the follow up books introduce more characters to make the world Ms Frost created even more interesting. (I received an advance copy in exchange for a review.)
I couldnt put this book down!! I quickly fell in love with Morgan. She was a tough, gutsy woman who didnt mince words. She guarded her heart against the world who had let her down for many years. Liam....hot damn. He was just scrumptious. He was the King of the Mountains who had retreated from humanity by making his own world. That world was beautiful!!! I fell in love with all the characters there, from the little mud faerie with the lilipad as a hat to the little puff fairies.
Im curious to know the rest of the kings who will bring destruction the world!
Spring Fae king and a witch, Such a fun story to read. I knew I would love this book simply because I love all Emma Hamm’s ( Elizabeth Frost) books. She definitely did not disappoint!
She built two worlds for us, one in Fae and one in the Human Realm. She takes us on an adventure through both.
This is definitely an adult book, lots of steamy romance!
I had a terrific time getting to know sassy and strong Morgan and alpha Liam. The new realm Liam has built is undeniable a world anyone would love to live in. This is the first book in the series and I am looking forward to more.

This new world is one I want to live in! The detail and descriptions are phenomenal. I want a place at the table during the feast! Beautiful magic and wonderful plot line. Snarky characters that made me laugh. Love the king coming back to modern times and seeing technology for the first time....laughed at his descriptions and interactions.
What a great story! The world building was fabulous! I loved learning about "green magic" and Elizabeth Frost's take on The Green Man. This was a fast read, with great pacing, and sexy scenes. I can't wait for the next one!
This is a new to me author and I was hooked from page one. I loved the story and the characters and I could not read fast enough to find out what happens next.

I absolutely loved this book and was honored to have been able to read and review. It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just could not get enough of it and once I started reading it I could not put it down. I recommend that you read it.
Straight up a fantastic book. I normally am not much into heavily steamy books as, per past experiences, most writer focus shifts more towards hot bods, trashy talk, and not very believable sex. That being said, I was quite impressed with how well Elizabeth Frost was able to balance quality character and plot development along with steamy, but believable sex scenes. Perfect for lovers of nature, magic, and sexy mountain kings ;)
An entertaining story set in the fae world. I enjoyed most of the story. I liked the lead character but had a hard time understanding her connection to nature yet willing to go and do harm to a living being. That is a major disconnect for me. A good idea and a good story. I just got stuck at that idea and unfortunately couldn’t let it go.
Ehhhhh for the most witchy book i've read it went downhill the last 50% and i'm really disappointed. Side note: the covers do not at all match the tone and gorgeous prose in this book. RTC
I really loved this book. It was a fast read. I didn't want to put it down. I really like Morgan and loved seeing her grow through out the book and how her feelings changed toward humans. I loved Liam from the start. The realm that Liam built was my favorite and all the faries there. I love how much this book relates to the earth and humans now. How we destroy everything but are finally trying to fix it but it will be slow like Morgan said. Such a great story. Can't wait for the next story in the series!
A closed off lead female who experienced trauma through life. A lead male who isolated himself because of the creature lurking inside of him. Two unlikely people to find love, but they find love together and stop the demise of humankind.

This was a fast read that I loved. I couldn't put it down watching Morgan and Liam. I loved Liam from the start. The story had a beautiful magical and great plot line and was well written and thought out. It had plenty of action and steam and left me wanting more.

I just finished and I'm still reeling. Such a great and clever twist on the Fae! I really loved the connection they had, even from the moment they met. This was a blast to read! It was quick paced, had plenty of action and steam, had awesome world building, and left me wanting more! I can't wait for King of the Frost!!
